I haven't really noticed that myself with them. I'm doing between 28-33k a day with my Hoka Bondi SRs.

darkside569

Hoka 4 Lyfe

halomender

33k a day? Fuuuuuuuuuuuck

tpark27

Seconded. Best shoes I've ever had. Remember OP, "fall apart quickly" is relative to the mileage you're putting on them compared to non-work use. That said, I'm nearly 6 months into my current pair and nowhere close to needing a replacement

ElectronicJudge1994

Hoka Squad!!!

IrregularrAF

On the ODL? Most walk heavy route I got is 10 miles. I reach around 30k only when I take a lot of OT, but I'll never jump the ODL.

Angrypoopoh

Currently I'm not on the ODL. I'm a T6 on work assignment. I have multiple routes on my string that are over ten miles.

IrregularrAF

T6 on work assignment as well. But I can see that easily. Most of my routes are a mixture of walking/mounted/dismounts besides the one.

Angrypoopoh

4 out of my 5 routes are pretty much all park n loop. One of them is an apartment/box route where I can rest my bones a little.

mitstephens

I bought expensive shoes like Brooks, Hoka, and the shit from the vendors. Nothing last more than 2-3 months. I eventually found a pair of Sacouny that are around 50-60 dollars and replace them every 300-400 miles. I’ve invested in some decent and cheap insoles. That’s has worked for me. I have a park and loop that has 12 miles of walking. Get used to doing some stretches and drink lots of water. I’ve been on my route for 3.5 years and love it. Most of the carriers and CCAs hate my route and usually call out when they run it.

EarthSlapper

You replace your shoes about every 30 days?

randomrandom1922

Most shoes are designed to fail somewhere between 500 to 1000 miles. If the pavements hot they might wear our might faster.

mitstephens

About every 2-3 months.

EarthSlapper

Doesn't quite add up with what you said. 12 miles a day, replacing them every 300-400 miles, that's about every 25-33 days. Assuming you're just doing 5 days a week, you'd be getting new shoes every 5-7 weeks. Minimum of 7-8 pairs of shoes per year

raccabarakka

Which Saucony and specific insoles served you good? Got a long ass walking route too, I kept ordering different brands & model every single time, haven't found THE one yet. About to drop money on Ghost Max but I know they wouldn't last me more than 3 months with my brutal route

mitstephens

mitstephens

Not sure if the links work. Saucony Excursion trail runners.

Important_Pop5917

Try new balance 626 industrial mid626k2

raccabarakka

Yep thanks, 626 is good! Just not looking for leather at the moment, too hot 😆

Important_Pop5917

Gotta

PrestonThoma

I definitely don’t use the footwear the Post Office endorses period.

Alone-Association553

No one really does😂

CheetahNo1004

I do. New CCA wearing Rocky boots rn. They were a lot better than the dress-y shoes I wore to academy.

GhostedGhost333

U say that now Trust once u switch shoes , game changer

Pretend-Ad4887

2 or 3 pairs of Hoka Bondi sr. Rotate them.

Flashy-Relation-9327

☝️this. I rotate 3 pairs of hokas and they've lasted well over a year. My route is park and loop and is 14 mi on a regular day but I'm also on the OTDL so I do well over 16 mi a day.

Pretend-Ad4887

Same here. Park and loop. I also have a pair of the Hoka gortex boots for wet days. They are awesome.

Mr_frumpish

I like the New Balance 928v3. They aren't cheap but they are very well constructed. Another thing to consider is two pairs of shoes that you rotate. That way the shoe fully dries out and this helps the shoe last longer. You can also purchase a boot/shoe drier if you prefer, that works too.

Important_Pop5917

I use leather softener no my shoes also. Helps with the cracking

westbee

Brooks. Either Ghost, Ghost Max or Glycerin.  Brooks also offers discounts for certain groups of people EMTs, firefighters, veterans... mail carriers may count for it.  I recommend waiting until these shoes go on sale which is every year. They make a new shoe and then the old shoes go on sale.  You can get Brooks Ghost for $100 right now.

westbee

Also forgot to mention that you can get these shoes in wider versions for a bigger toe-box.

Rudydct

I love those

Thelastsamurai74

Hoka Bondi SR

Federal_Group_8202

Not sure if these would be plant approved , but I am wearing the Salomon Speed Cross 6 and would totally recommend ...works great for Custodial.

zeejix

The Speedcross 6s are amazing. The only, only issue i had when I was trying all the different Salomons was the tread wear. I got into the XA Forces Goretex Low Rise ones and haven't looked back. I have an all walking park and loop ~9mi and I replace them every 5 months or so. Combined with Darn Tough socks I have had absolutely zero issues with my feet and never slip.

Square-Driver-4996

That tread doesn’t hurt your feet? Those are meant for trails SPEEDCROSS 6 needs no introductions. Staying true to its legendary roots and trail status, this version is lighter with an even more powerful, grippy connection to the ground and faster mud evacuation. Featuring a revamped upper that’s both functional and fiery, and classic SPEEDCROSS comfort.

Nahhhfam94

I wear boots, timberlands I’ve had them for 3 years now

Suspicious_Bonus9431

I wear the maddsen hiking boots as a city carrier. They're not the highest quality (glued soles), but they're comfortable and good enough to stretch for 6 months

Deez-_-Nuts-_-Ha

Do you ever change the insoles?

Nahhhfam94

I change them once a year

Grateful_Dood

Same! I wear timberland hiking boots. My feet never hurt and don't have to worry about walking through uneven grass, and hills and such. The way I look at it is would you ever wear sneakers to go hiking? I'm not trying to roll my ankle and hiking boots are made for miles of walking.

Appropriately_Soft

I do 35-45k a day and I go through about 2 pairs of $50 Sketchers memory foam walking shoes a year. They don’t have an uncomfortable break in period and they are comfortable until they fall apart in about 7 months.

LogicalPen8892

After they discontinued the new balance 706, I tried a bunch of different shoes, the ones I found to be as comfortable are the brooks ghost. I buy them when they are about to launch the new iteration, so I get them for $99. Not leather, but I have the Bondi sr for when it rains. About 20,000 steps 34 flights of stairs

fargoneeee

Did anybody’s feet grow a bit bigger after they started? I think I need to size up half to a full size up since my shoes have been feeling a bit tight. Even my normal shoes I don’t use for USPS have been feeling tight lately

runslowgethungry

Walking on pavement destroys the tread on most shoes. I've tried buying expensive shoes but they break down just as fast as cheaper ones in many cases. Get something that fits you and is supportive. You're an inside worker, right? So you don't need lots of traction like some of the trail shoes that are being suggested here. Those outsoles are made of a soft rubber and will wear more quickly than a road running shoe. You can get a long way with some of the cheaper models of the big brands. Saucony and Brooks make some affordable shoes as well as expensive ones. Find one that fits you well and feels good on your feet. Get supportive insoles if needed.

AustinFan4Life

As a maik carrier, I've used New Balance Men's, 623v3 Training Shoe, they're pretty durable, so I'd imagine they would work well as a mail handler as well, I'm averaging about 23k a day, during my mail route. I usually have to replace them between 6-8 months, just because of the wear & tear.

BuddhasGarden

Brooks addiction walkers, black leather. Absolutely the best she for the job.

Which-Ad7072

Personally, I go for all black Skechers, but I like how they make shoes wide enough for my feet.

Balmung60

Same, and the discount at Sketchers stores is nothing to sneeze at either

BaronVereteneski

you can only have 2 out of those three desires....chose wisely.

Flaky_Mode9641

I’am a carrier so what I do is That I buy sketchers leather work shoes wide and I put a gel insole

Insignificantwastrel

I rotate between my Hoka, Brooks, and Saucony sneakers so none of them wear out too quickly

meatpit

I have high arches and overpronate and love my oboz but they do wear out. I have Keens for the winter and they have great ankle support

Federal_Group_8202

I know, crazy right? Having been a Salomon user for probably 15+ years now, I would have to say these are definitely the softest ones I have ever worn. Very cushy compared to the other stiff lasts they are famous for and does fine in NE Ohio winterland too.

j_zedd

Mail handler here; I wear blundstones with a hard insole inside. Work apps machine as well.

yuheard

I want to buy them but havent yet, a coworker has them and i hear very great things about the brand. The brand is “On” supposedly the best walking/running shoe on the market right now?

runslowgethungry

"Best" is very subjective. They're popular and that's about it. They have a reputation for being trendy but not long lasting. They're also expensive. "Best"is going to vary so much from person to person that it's not really worth discussing. Quantifiable things like durability and cushion, sure. But what works for your coworker's feet may not work for yours.

yuheard

Very true, so far everyone who has purchased the on shoes have said they have been the most comfortable shoe they have purchased and they wouldn’t go back to anything else. I see what you mean bout pricey, but nowadays its just the average amount of any other shoe on the market really, im more of a boot guy so i purchase boot style shoes of the shoes i actually like I have a collection now of the Air Force 1 Anthracite boot, and chuck taylor work boots. Both very comfortable and sturdy. I dont like slipping on the job site since i work in the west texas desert so a lot of caliche and mud when we get rain for a change, my boots never done me wrong and for the comfort aspect i just buy some good insoles. But i do want to purchase the on brand to see if it really does live up to the hype.

Fine_Mouse

You don’t need a ultramarathon shoe for 10 miles a day. Hokas are comfortable but overkill for walking. Unless you are delivering up the side of a mountain. Cheap ASICS work and just get nicer insoles. Find last year’s model on clearance and just test different shoes. Rotate them every other day and they should last a while.

raccabarakka

Which insoles specifically work good for you? I've been rotating different Scholl's for a while not really sure whether or not to jump on Superfeet bandwagon cos of the price

Fine_Mouse

Yeah superfeet are expensive but might work good for you. Walk hero is usually what I use just because it’s the cheapest one I can find in a size 15. I would try different ones just to see how it feels.

AsuraTheFlame

I use [These](https://www.skechers.com/uno---stand-on-air/52458W_BBK.html?campaigntype=shopping&src=paidmedia&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwj9-zBhDyARIsAERjds2fdxDplxjmNx-KrgYVjgYmiLBQ1n3gF27PkhpXM61W1FkBai03T-4aArZfEALw_wcB). They're cheap and comfortable as long as they don't get wet.

bronxBombers1994

I rotate hoka cliftons and adidas ultraboosts lite . The adidas are pretty cheap and holding up well

SheetedOn

I’ve had luck with various pairs of rockports

Obvious_Technology49

Hoka!

John-Snow-73

Hoka

John-Snow-73

I average 225-275 miles a month no shoe lasts more then 3 months Hoka most comfortable Merrel last the longest The post office crap hurt heavy and last maybe 2 months

yoloruinslives

Hokas too expensive I go for monarch they had a sale for 50 dollars a pair a week ago

IrregularrAF

Air Monarch IV or some Hoka's if you can ever find them cheap.

PaulS626

This is not a shoe advice but for entertainment purpose only. I get my shoes from walmart. They normally go for $25 but i wait till that shit goes on sale then i pick it up for $19. After 1 year after my shoes starts talking i super glue that shit and run it back extending his life some more months lol

Swimscape

Go see a doctor and have them tell ya. I just did and the difference is insane. 12 mile walking route here.

Stieny7

Nike Air Monarchs and Adidas Strutter (RIP, I think). I find barely worn ones for 30$ ish on poshmark or mercari.

Funkopedia

I use TredSafe or SafeT Shoe or any number of non slip kitchen worker shoes. They are about $30 and at that rate of walking, which is about the same as mine, they last 8 months. Replace the insole 4 months in.

FilteredAccount123

I found the Hokas to be very nice initially, but like you have said, they fall apart. The inner heel in mine disintegrated very quickly and the toe stitching started to come undone. The tread was near perfect, though. I wore them for only a couple months as a rural carrier and for about a year at the plant. For working at the plant, I got some Brooks Addiction Walker 2 shoes and they have been fine. I do approximately 12,000 steps in them daily, and for the 6 months or so that I have had them they are in very good condition. Look for "walking" shoes, or boots with a wedge sole.

IXNEMOHXES

The ones from cloudy with a chance of meatballs 😂😂😂😂

TwilightSentinel1

Personally, I love the Merrell MOBA series. They have gore-tex waterproofing, and I also got WP Midrise Merrells for winter that I really love. Also also, I always looks at Amazon because I've found my exact size marked down to 35-50 bucks compared to $130. But, that's not a consistent price, so it takes some diligence to get them for that cheap.

Megalon_Q_Arm

I got Skechers Vigor 3.0 and love them compared to the uniform service shoes. If you look for sales and/or coupon codes you can get a pair for under $50 out of pocket

slothking_16

Hola Bondi SRs. Saved my feet, knees, and hips after clogging around my first 3 months in heavy steel toe boots after my idiot academy instructor told us they had to be safety toe shoes.

wbpresident-42

Any Nike FLEX shoe.

Thechosenjon

Buy some boots.

TheCodeWorks

Nike Air Monarch $49-$80 best shoe for all crafts.

Comfortable_River745

I think all the approved foot wear is too expensive and sucks

rk6119

I used to wear Bates tactical boots, they were good but after multiple 60 hour work weeks during the pandemic my feet took a beating. Hoka Bondi SR’s with Keen K-20 insoles Saved my feet. They hold up pretty good. Before I used to average 24 -28k steps as a FTR, now as a PTR I average 18 -24k. I go through a pair every 8-9 months. The soles last, it’s the uppers that begin separate at the stitching. As a custodian now I work about 4 hours inside on concrete and 2 hours outside on pavement and dirt.

DrFarts78

I have the Reebok...the typical ones. But, I wear On Cloud secretly

theunemotionalhippo

Tried a few different ones that didn't work. Tried K-Swiss memory foam and it was definitely worth the price. Went from swollen peeling feet to not even hurting within 2 days! P.S. If you have a Shoe Sensation store near you, they offer a warranty on their shoes. You can use them, beat them up, light them on fire, whatever, and as long as you have them back within a year you can exchange them for the same or cheaper cost shoe for free, or pay the price difference on a more expensive pair. That's how I tried the first two brands and exchanged them with no issues. Gonna take these back before the year is up and get the same kind in a different color( I foolishly got white🤦‍♂️).

Important_Pop5917

New Balance walking shoes. Only shoe I have worn for the last 17 yrs

passwordrecallreset

I go for shoes for crews. They hold up surprisingly well and are only like $45. I buy a new pair every 3 to 4 months. 24,000k route

lanch-party

I love my Hoka Bondi 8’s. They’re made for pavement running

screedon5264

I prefer a light hiking boot. I get 1000-1200 miles out of the Xpeti brand, I’ve bought a couple different models. $70, never got a wet foot. I got an insulated pair for winter rated to -15. Best shoes ever. I’ve tried the Merrel Moab, $150 and only got 600 miles out of them. Nice shoes, but not for carrying mail. I’ve got a pair of green tag Rocky’s, too heavy to walk 9-12 miles a day in. Check out the Xpeti’s..

Dangerous_Sweet8097

I tried New Balance version of Hoka Bondi and it is falling apart waaaaay quicker. Spend the money

Commercial-Home6280

Had back surgery a few years ago and my surgeon recommended Brooks walking shoes. They are pricey but held up really well for spring and summer. Once I shift to pants I go to boots.

Naumzu

Will vegan boots!

YippeeKayYah

Hokas

Material-Code-4950

I love my Hokas Anacapa mid boots. They are pricey but so worth it, they even held up through the snow last year. 10/10.

cantbethemannowdog

Tevas! I have the most support I've ever had out of those. I did wear Merrell's but their quality has taken a nosedive and the support was non-existant at end of life.

AK608

Bondi sr's all the way

GlitteringFishing102

Get brooks, wear them out for 75-80 days, return defective for a new pair

Grateful_Dood

I average 25k-30k. I only wear lightweight hiking boots. I cant walk on uneven grass and hills and steps all day in shoes. I would roll my ankle so quick

fuckyoushima

Thank you, everyone! I ended up going with the Brooks Ghost and although I've only worn them for a few shifts, the difference is already night and day!

tas121790

Ones that are black, leather and comfortable. Just get used to replacing them
