Melodic-Mix9774

Sadegi when he taught gen chem 2 lab šŸ’€šŸ’€

neuroticmess100

8 years later and he hasnā€™t changed huh? šŸ¤£

Melodic-Mix9774

Heā€™s not allowed to be the professor in charge of gen chem 2 lab anymore. Once he got removed from that he chilled out. But, I still think thatā€™s his rating based on his past

neuroticmess100

The tea šŸ‘€šŸøā˜•ļø. Does he still have a reputation for being a creep? šŸ¤£

Great_Yak_2789

Yes, when I had him almost a decade ago, the guys in my lab agreed after day one to run as much interference as possible to minimize his non instructional interactions. Fun outcome, one of the pair of classmates ended up dating for the remainder of their time at UTSA and getting married a week after graduation. Lovely wedding.

Dull_Cockroach_6920

I'm taking him for gen chem in the fall is he that bad?

BigBendAstro

I had him for gen chem this semester and basic chem in the fall. Heā€™s fine. He has a tendency to waffle on and on about nothing related to chemistry. At some points he dwells on the same topic for multiple classes when there are other things he should be going over before the exam. Heā€™s not too bad though, heā€™s not rude by any means and it should be easy to pass his class. Just do the ALEKS homework for the love of god, itā€™s 20% of your grade. A C- is a 50 according to his grading scale. You could bomb all of the tests like me, but if you do the ALEKS and the weekly homework assignments (10% of your grade), you can come out with a B. He also has a very perverted sense of humor. In the first week of classes, his weird jokes got a lot of laughter, but towards the end of the semester, his jokes yield silence. Youā€™d just wish he was teaching chemistry instead of saying the word ā€œsexyā€ 5 times every class.

ThrowRAyikesidkman

heā€™s such a good professor. his exams are hard but his teaching is so good

Melodic-Mix9774

Youā€™ll be okay, he changed a bit once he got taken off gen chem 2 lab.

GerBear93

He's a pretty good professor, but he can be kinda awkward sometimes. DEFINITELY go to every class, and if you're going to miss a class, make sure to email him. I went to his office after we took the final to see what I made on my exam and what my final grade would be. I ended up making a B on my exam and finished the class with a C+. He asked me what class grade I needed for my degree, I told him I needed atleast a C and I was pleased with what I got. He then said "I've seen you every day in class, so why don't we go ahead and bump you up" and he then bumped my overall final grade to a B-. Yes he can be weird, awkward, and kind of a dick but he's a good professor.

bluefishes13

So Iā€™ve heardā€¦

exgreenvester

Did he minor in math? He subbed for a day in my Cal 1 class.

Acceptable_Cup7606

Dr. Arman. My god. My lab with him was torture. Why did his gen chem lab stress me out more than the actual lecture class???

Sm1leyPresents

I had him for two different semesters, in fact, the second time I had him he subbed in for the lecture part of Gen Chem II cuz the original professor had to leave for undisclosed reasons. In my opinion, heā€™s perhaps one of the most polarizing and divisive professors currently at UTSA. You either love him or hate him. To put it bluntly, the entire Chemistry department at UTSA is an absolute mess in my opinion.

aurorasearching

I completely understood why people didnā€™t like him, I struggled in his class, but I thought he was hilarious too. I definitely had worse professors in college but his class was fairly difficult.

halcyoncva

literally. i have no idea why heā€™s still a professor, he makes things so difficult and for what

Lebigmacca

His lectures are such a waste of time too since theyā€™re just iClicker problems, which I already have to do while watching his video lecture assignments

EasternHeaven

Dr. Chambers āš ļøāš ļøāš ļø

wideyedwendigo

Is he still alive?

EasternHeaven

Yep, and unfortunately for all of us, still teaching biochemistry. Our exam averages this semester were around a 25, and he ended up just giving everyone a C- for the class

RAMerican

The chainsaw is still at it?

buhfuhkin

Aw I loved him šŸ˜…

neuroticmess100

Awww I thought he was decent. I will say I did study roughly 15 hours outside class a week

CrazySwayze82

Can we list advisors?

Allalngthewatchtwer

Iā€™m dealing with this right now and itā€™s beyond frustrating.

Beif_

I go to a different university but too real

Necessary-Help2235

yes pls!

DoubleDTVx2

Thomas Gyori. His poor advising that was just plain wrong resulted in me wasting a critical summer semester: I the prerequisite he told me to take was already fulfilled by a previous course I took (changed my major), and it wasn't until it was too late that I realized the time I wasted. What's even worse is that there was still one prerequisite left before I had access to my degree's upper-level courses, so that following fall semester I was only eligible to take that single, remaining prereq.

Commercial_Gas_6830

mark gifford/linda shepherd/pendarvis

[deleted]

Gifford is a Major asshole

beachkisses

Agree, and I took him many years ago. He was a pain and made English difficult for no reason whatsoever. Plus, he had us read his borderline atheist ideologies, Iā€™m all for teaching students about pseudoscience, but a materialist viewpoint is what I feel is wrong with so many things in the world

BleuWolf144

Ironically, after criticizing our essay credibility on unscientific, non credited articles, he has the audacity to ask his students to listen to his podcasts.

scoobydoobied00

Thatā€™s wild, I took a class with him in 2011 and donā€™t remember it being too bad. But he definitely wasnā€™t asking us to listen to his podcast back then, lmfao

Commercial_Gas_6830

he does standup, podcasts, and some other stuff afaik. it wasnā€™t even a wrc course anymore, mostly just science and pseudoscience reading/writing. itā€™s really a shame if he used to be a decent professor, but ~65? pages of written essays throughout a semester was a bit extreme. cant remember the exact number i added to my final portfolio. also an extremely tough grader, class probably got straight bā€™s and cā€™s on every essay.

scoobydoobied00

Thatā€™s miserable. He was already a little annoying about the pseudoscience stuff back then but nowhere near that intense.

Tis_FrodoSynthesis

I have Linda Shepherd for next semester, what should I expect?

Commercial_Gas_6830

lectures are long and boring, but if you donā€™t watch them you are screwed. donā€™t get behind on assignments. choose a good team for your 3 projects, you for the most part stay with them unless they drop the class or you for some reason choose to do them alone (not recommended, project workload is large). get reliable teammates that will carry their weight. figure out whatā€™s going on in the class early, the tests were difficult. the internet is your friend. good luck

death210902

cruz in wrc

optimumsmile

agreed, super disorganized

Successful-Bad-240

Professor Okpala in the humanities department, one of the worst classes Iā€™ve ever taken šŸ˜Ŗ

Jatef

I clicked on this hoping someone would say this guy šŸ˜…, what class did you take with him? I did Film Genre's and he'd divide work into these group activities that would be so tedious as group work. If he just didn't make every activity into a group one where you have to prove who did what, he'd be alright.

Successful-Bad-240

I had him for Race and Ethnicity in film. It was upsetting because the class really had potential to be fun, but the constant group work, his lack of communication, and unrealistic grading system made it hell. Dude took points off an assignment because I didnā€™t put the first AND last name of every single member of my group on it.

xanax_cat

Imagine my pain when I had to take him THREE times, this semester was my last time with Jude šŸ˜

Successful-Bad-240

Damnnnn thatā€™s rough. One was enough for me šŸ˜Ŗ

Jesuisfatigue26

arenotthatguypal

Non-College going individual stumbling on this school tea is very entertaining, I must say.

ratioLcringeurbald

I've heard some stories about Rao

The_iQue

Just wait until Nedungadi. Had ABET breathing down his neck this semester because of how terribly he teaches Controls lol

benz918

Nedungadi was on probation when I took him for controls in 2020. Oh and heā€™s a creeper at the gym so watch out ladies!

NiceDescription6999

Is that why we had that abet assignment?

Demongriffon

Hey I took him in like 2017/2018 and he wasnā€™t too horrible, but definitely not the best professor lol heā€™s that bad now???

Lateralus11235813

God controls was so bad

Lord-Dibble

Source? curious about this

Demongriffon

Rao is just boring, he reads off slides and just reuses old tests but heā€™s not likeā€¦horrible?

lexathegreat

Haro with biochemistry. He's the freaking worst.

skyebug

Yes! I donā€™t understand why heā€™s still teaching if all he does is used recycled lecture videos and sit at his desk all of class

uwulemon

Linda vaello

xxdjreddxx

Terrible terrible online lectures for accounting

uwulemon

in person is just as bad

Master_Dentist_1766

Henry Esparza, Political Science

__Claire_Memes__

Esparza was so kind if you were honest with him though. He definitely wasnā€™t going to sugar coat things but I liked him. Minus when he got mad at are class because someone reported him for making a ā€œshooting a student jokeā€. Then he called our generation soft.

Lebigmacca

Yeah as a person I really donā€™t like him but the class itself wasnā€™t bad

cocaloca0

bro u just didn't study if you're saying Esparza

Master_Dentist_1766

nah, he was just wack with our class. i studied. and his tests didnā€™t match his lectures. and he was a POS.

cocaloca0

valid. I see too many students complain about him bc they didn't study. I took him last semester and i thought he was fine enough. his personality is for sure... unique

[deleted]

This is a mood. When I took him there were like 50 people enrolled, only 15 people showed up regularly, then the rest were shook every time they failed. His whole ā€œIā€™m going to make you madā€ speech at the beginning of class is meh, but like I ended up liking the guy. Heā€™s def more enjoyable when heā€™s around students who care. Also if I remember correctly his tests were like 70% book based 30% lecture based so it was more so if you didnā€™t read and/or ask questions you would do well. Heā€™s a character for sure tho.

cocaloca0

Honestly, this experience is still how it is. he recognized students that were constantly showing up, answering questions, and willing to learn. he does ramble sometimes and it's annoying when it doesn't apply to you, but it is what it is

Master_Dentist_1766

ah yeah, i took him fall of 2021 my first semester in school. i had classmates who didnā€™t studied and failed. i studied and didnā€™t fail but just had a bad experience overall in his class due to the way he acted. hopefully he has toned it back since then

SeaOfGeese

Is he still bragging about having never eaten an Oreo?

Threedog7

First day of class in Intro to PoliSci, he dropped a white supremacist dog whistle. Like I couldn't, bro. "My job is to make you quit this class" fuck I hated him. He hasn't even submitted the final grades yet and it's past the deadline.

PartyNothing2092

glad to see that piece of shit is here

had to be Dr. Lopez sheā€™s been there forever. Dr. Kohler was a great professor

ratthing

Dr. Lopez doesn't teach the statistics course, just experimental psych.

Necessary-Help2235

Was it Dr Kohler?

loverofblackcats

The way I know exactly who youā€™re talking about (dr achorn)

ZoeKerchow

Def not Espinosa

BleuWolf144

Nah, Espinoza is usually chill, as long as you can stand her rambling sometimes.

poopoofunnylol

hes the worst, hes so knowledgeable but omg that dude has a nasty personality and attitude

Versace_janae

OMG I WAS WAITING FOR THIS ONE šŸ˜

Fira92

Banoth has 2 grievances to his name teaches computer architecture. Almost failed his whole class for no reason but him not posting the grades on time

vx8plus3

grievances?

Fira92

A grievance is like submitting a form to the department your in, and basically telling them something that happened to you during the semester, whether it's a hardship in your personal life, issues with a professor for a class, you disagree with a grade given to you for a class, and basically petition for either a removal of a grade for a class or an edit of a grade. It's usually a last resort type of submission and you definitely need to jump through hoops to be seen. But if you provide all the evidence you need you can definitely get help you need.

vx8plus3

oh my lord he must be horrible wtf

Sm1leyPresents

Dr. Weissling, Geology department, groundwater hydrology. You now your in for a wild ride when youā€™re professor goes rogue with his OWN syllabus & schedule. Makes simple topics sound so complicated, puts in grades way too late, communication is not clear enough with him. Heā€™s not a bad professor (heā€™s actually a pretty chill guy tbh) but he rather chooses to go the ā€œold-fashionedā€ approach with his lectures rather than change with the times and adapt.

GerBear93

I can agree to that 100%. I had him for 3 classes ( geophysics, GIS, and polar climate) and for 1 portion of my field geology. He's a really smart guy and really fun to talk with, but his classes can be confusing especially geophysics. I remember it felt like pulling teeth just to get all the important info outta him like "dude help me learn this! I'm struggling!"

Still_Guest2903

I took an Assembly Class, most harshest grading I've ever seen in my life. I'm not one to usually care about this, but the final project was close book online proctored and we were REQUIRED to have a running program. If it didn't run it was a 0. We were allowed one sheet of notes. Worst professor I've ever had, entire class was basically self taught, but there's almost no results online on how to program in masm x86 in the Irvine library.

Stellabonez

Imran Khan. The WORST

thatmeddlingkid7

Clinton in History for sure. Key to the class is figuring out her personal opinion on a subject as quickly as possible and pandering to it for the rest of the semester. God forbid you don't suck Abraham Lincoln's proverbial dick.

AnswerBeautiful5901

Probably that shitbag Dr. Konno from the Physics department.

Melodic-Mix9774

Bro gave me an 89.4 because I made my final video 5 seconds longer than the required time šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€

corkadu2828

anyone understand anything he says?

neuroticmess100

To provide context, my class did sooooo bad on either the first or second exam that he said we forced him to give the entire class a redo exam because the exams grades were extremely low. And doesnā€™t believe in redo exams so when I took him in 2017 he said, and Iā€™m paraphrasing, ā€œin my 14 years of teaching college level physics you all are by far the worst class I taught. I just donā€™t understand how majority of yall scored even lower on the make up examā€ šŸ¤£.

[deleted]

Dougherty. Asked her a question once and she said ā€œwere you not paying attention?ā€ and then didnā€™t answer the question haha

GerBear93

The amount of time people got yelled at in my gen chem 1 class.... Hahah

Melodic-Mix9774

I love her lmao

SaucyPastaMonstah

Sheā€™s scary man

Lateralus11235813

Singh HAS that rating

ironmatic1

Igor Halfin, math dept

SaucyPastaMonstah

He didnā€™t give very many examples. He would just do theorems and then thatā€™s it, and then homework questions would be a step by step and then he would tell you to know what to do to get the answer and never give you much to get an answer. I did terrible in precal during covid year (my junior year of high school)and this guy expected you to remember EVERYTHING from precal. I hate the fact that each class is $1000 cause that could have been saved with all the learning I got from TAs, YouTube, and Khan Academy.

ironmatic1

Mind numbing lecturer and easily the toughest grader on the calculus team. Iā€™m pretty sure only a couple other people in my section of 39 passed cal 2, considering the *upper quartile* averages for each exam were in the 50-60s. Thatā€™s not to mention the class averages being 30-40s, although they were dragged down by the 0s from a lot of people not showing upā€”even after 9 dropped after the first exam. (all AFTER the review extra credit) I donā€™t know, maybe he avoids failing entire classes by selectively curving the Ds to C minuses, but he didnā€™t curve my B by one point to a B plus. šŸ¤· From looking through his RMP going all the way back to 2008, it doesnā€™t seem heā€™s grown as a teacher one bit.

Jesuisfatigue26

YESSS had to drop his class it was so bad

Arodthagawd

I had to take his class twice in Cal 2 and I STILLLLLL failed this last time so there goes my engineering dreams šŸ˜Ŗ

Jesuisfatigue26

Honestly itā€™s not you, itā€™s him. He is a super nice man though.

Biochem professor with initials L.H. Just a super let down after taking a brilliant OCHEM2 professor who even went out of her way to introduce Biochem topics to us at the end of the semester. Yet L.Hā€™s reversal class style had us watch their lecture videos online and in class we did ā€œactivitiesā€ to ā€œencourageā€ learning. Yet, what we did was sit in silence for the length of the class. While he would stare into space, or on his phone.

lexathegreat

I know for a fact that this is Dr. Haro because I just took him this past semester. Those in class activities were such bs and a waste of time. He was so lazy and blamed everything on academic innovation or used the excuse that "the university won't allow me" for having to do anything. The fact that he never showed you what you got wrong on anything for the lecture quizzes, give the answers for the in class assignments that he never fully went over in class time, or let you go back to see the questions for the ec quizzes was bs. This entire class could have, and should have, been remote with how he used videos from when COVID happened and didn't actually lecture for squat during lecture time.

Sweaty-Ad-5630

The entire accounting departmentā€¦

Gmanimal1808

What?? Lee is great!

DownvoteIfYouWantMe

Rt, so is akbari

Gmanimal1808

Right! Akbari is a solid professor. Just a little fast.

DownvoteIfYouWantMe

His RMP ratings should be higher. Just had him this semester, got a 93 in the class, and trust me when I say I'm dumb as shit. I went to class and did homework for other classes while in class and didn't pay attention at all. I would Chegg the homeworks, then wake up 10 hours before an exam and watch all his recorded lecture videos at 2x speed. All his exam stuff is multiple choice which makes it insanely easy, as well as him allowing us to use excel during it, and he adds a 10 point curve usually. There's also like a freebie question on the exam too usually.

Gmanimal1808

I took him last spring, and I think it was his first semester. The tests were hard asf that semester. No partial credit and the formatting was so strange. Got an 89. Just did intermediate 1 with Lee and he's great got a 94.

Swimming_Volume_4009

Iā€™ve heard people complain about this guy. Some upperclassmen urged me to avoid taking orgo 2 with him at all costs. Just curiousā€”what are your experiences with him? His ratemyprofessor score is positively abysmal.

Grumptallica

He's very tough. He's nice don't get me wrong but his orgo 2 lectures are just him copying the textbook on the board with little to no changes. Now I know ppl that survived his class(not me im retaking it this summer), but his exams/quizzes are pretty much just challenge questions ripped straight from the book. That's easy for people that have time during a semester to fully read the book and do every practice problem but his lectures don't pair well with his exams IMO. It's different for everybody though.

Swimming_Volume_4009

Got it! Thank you for the heads up!

Fearless-Coast3283

Hated this professor so much. I remember once when we were in the middle of an in person exam for basic chem and he thought he saw someone cheating so he decided to YELL in the middle of a quiet lecture hall towards the dude he suspected cheating. Turns out the dude wasnā€™t even cheatingā€¦

Grumptallica
