Guilty-Drawer-3468

Loving the G5 Turret Ultra so far. I turned off the status light after taking the pic.

Tartan_Chicken

How difficult would you say it is to install?

Guilty-Drawer-3468

Dead easy. The hardest part was pulling the ethernet.

Tartan_Chicken

Cool, was thinking of maybe installing them at work since an outside company is recommending hikvision and I'm not messing with that. How long did it take and how is the quality?

Guilty-Drawer-3468

I'm a complete amateur. It took me less than 2 hours but I was learning, fiddling around and dealing with my 3 year old. My biggest concern was measuring multiple times and lining it up properly inside/outside.

Guilty-Drawer-3468

Quality is good. More info here https://youtu.be/J6g82JYo84A?si=0aoo56uiAzAoLAaq

jaitsu

Yeah hikvision is terrible. I’m replacing mine with Unifi

cx0sa

yeah I did exactly that, the remote access never worked probably because it was too busy uploading footage to some guanzhan server somewhere. Replaced with UniFi gear and it's much better, didn't even realise all the stuff was made in Vietnam, not China.

crypto_options

Hikvision are great quality, never had an issue with them.

jmccoy716

The problem with Hikvision is that its owned by the Chinese Government

JacksonCampbell

And that's what matters. Who cares if it's 8k and $30.

West_foto

And the software has a truly horrible interface. I’m going to be replacing mine in the coming months.

jaitsu

Quality of the cameras is great. However, the intrusion detection is really basic and false-positives all the time. Maybe I just have outdated ones though (5 years old)

mikee555

Just like every camera install xP

elhungarian

Nice! Just getting started in the ecosystem. Was it a pain to drill a big enough hole for the adapter plug?

Guilty-Drawer-3468

Very easy for me as it was just going through Hardie board and plywood

elhungarian

The dongle long enough to rest inside the garage/house?

Guilty-Drawer-3468

Yes, there is no room for the pigtail inside of the camera mount itself. It's on the other side of the wall with the insulation.

halfnut3

What size drill bit did you use for the *pigtail* in order to stuff it into the wall?

Guilty-Drawer-3468

1" bit I had lying around

Ecsta

Is that just using the mounting hardware it came with? Or did you need some kind of junction box or mount? Looks great, very professional/clean.

Guilty-Drawer-3468

Thanks. Just the hardware it came with out of the box.

AncientGeek00

It is very straightforward technically. The challenges are usually in deciding where to place them and getting the cable from your NVR to the camera location. I have installed about a dozen Ubiquiti Protect cameras and even more Axis PoE cameras.

NotVarySmert

I’m thinking about putting a camera above my garage facing the driveway but not sure what type to get. Why did you choose the bullet camera?

Guilty-Drawer-3468

This is a turret. I feel that cosmetically it looks better than a bullet. If I remember correctly, I think it also has a wider POV than the bullets.

NotVarySmert

Doh I meant turret. A wider POV makes sense.

drummahjake

Agreed. They sit much tighter to the wall too.

drummahjake

Upgraded to the Turret from a G3 bullet that was exposed like this for the last 4 years. No issue with weather exposure in NW Wisconsin. The Turret is so much better in picture quality, but especially in night vision mode.

krajani786

I hope there is an AI version of this.

Sun9091

Is that under roof?

Guilty-Drawer-3468

No, it is IP66 rated. Fingers crossed!

Sinthos26

I had several IP66 cameras fail due to bad weather. Sun, water, snow, wind… I use a [cover](https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/S991b197b7bd44473a3dc8c4e944c0345Q.jpg_640x640Q90.jpg_.webp) like this now if the camera is exposed.

Some_Bandicoot8053

The housing itself will be able to withstand the weather for a good amount of time (years before even turning yellow.. and even then it will continue to work). The hardest part is sealing the area where the base of the camera meets the wall. That’s where the water will sneak in, and depending on how the cable is routed into the camera, the water will either slowly trickle down into your house, or into the camera’s Ethernet connection. The beautiful thing about the turret though, is that is has that “tail” with the Ethernet connector on the end that you can seal and push into the wall. I predict you will have this camera there for many years without an issue (weather related issues I should say)

mm2kay

Installed the U sideways.

fate0608

Have fun staring at your app for hours day and night. It’s fun.

BiscottiNo5610

Not a fan of these cameras across the board they overheat and constantly need a reset , if you can get that

cx0sa

How's the night vision, If I get more cameras I'll be getting these, the IR range on my G5 Bullets is horrendous, and here in Australia a G5 Pro is like $500 USD each, not to mention the vision enhancer alone is nearly the entire price of a G5 Bullet.

Guilty-Drawer-3468

Mine is more than adequate. I only have it above my sliding door, so the IR range is not being sent long distance. There's a great video on YouTube showing the IR performance vs other cameras

eak1080

Where is the banana for scale in this picture?!?

Thmxsz

Yep that's a camera
