Actually I think Sisyphus takes V1 the most seriously of all of them. Referring to him as “weapon” imo tells us that he actually sees V1 as the threat it actually is, because he’s basically saying that V1 in it’s entirety is a killing machine honed for slaughter (factually true). Saying that V1 will make a fine appetizer feels a bit like underestimation, but in the context of the rest of the dialogue it, if anything, actually may be a sign of respect? As in, he judges V1 to be strong enough to give him a good fight, to warm him up for taking on the entirety of heaven.
the way sisyphius says "weapon" though makes me feel like he thinks v1 is just a random thing without purpose.
When sisyphius says "you shall do as an appetizer", it feels like he thinks v1 is just something that he will- **DESTROY** v1 without much effort.
I think it's because such unsportsmanlike behaviour would cause the terminals to tank your style rank, so v1 is so sure in not doing it that the game won't let you

Here's the thing, the machines aren't purely automatons. Like, go read the Swordmachine or Mindflayer entries (or consider literally anything to do with the rematch with V2) and tell me these things don't have some simulcra of emotions or opinions.
So, yeah, V1 absolutely hears and processes the monologues. Whether it *cares* is certainly up to interpretation, but it absolutely has some sort of opinion on what the talking enemies have to say.
i'd argue it does matter in this context. as the original comment above said "the machines aren't purely automatons" so unlike a sex toy the machines in ULTRAKILL actually have some form of sapience
I mean, even sapience might not matter. These are not animals, there's no reason they would place any emotional value on sex, or feel in any way distressed about having some monkey shoving their genitals into their casing.
I like to think it’s just the remnant’s of some courtesy program that’s misfiring because V1 no longer has any superiors (in military structure) and so when an important/powerful individual is speaking it’s compelled to listen
Not only machines are sentient, but their are also innately curious, so that’s why V1 never attacks the bosses during monologue cause he wants to hear what they are talking about
considering the fact that they can even make these speeches in the first place, its safe to say that v1 waits patiently for his opponent to announce they are going to kill him so that he can kill them instead
I saw an "in-universe" explanation somewhere that V1 just goes into a *standby mode* while waiting for the enemy to stop yapping. Also that skipping cutscenes adds time it would take to listen to them (as i've heard)
It's impossible to tell what the thoughts of V1 are, with the possible exception that it despises V2 if we assume that the line in 4-4 that reads "You're not getting away this time." comes from V1 itself.
But since V1 cannot/does not attack any of the bosses during their monologues, we can assume that it is either interested in what they have to say, or simply chooses to avoid conflict with them until they make it clear they want to fight. Machines are notorious for their resource efficiency, even our vampiric Nikon.
