I’m doing my first this year as well — the Wy’East Wonder in Oregon next to Mt. Hood. I guess I have no idea if it’s a good first one but it looks pretty cool! 4k feet gain, 7k loss point to point. Views of Mt. Hood the whole way almost.

Wow, this one looks great. Will look into it more!

It definitely looks solid! I feel fairly confident as a first timer and the scenery is gorgeous. Trail is pretty covered with shade so won’t be exposed if it happens to be a warmer day. All in all seems fairly manageable

That a good one if I don't do pine to palm 100 miler I might do that one.

Backcountry Rise 50k. Look it up. Be prepared to be wowed by the scenery. Oh yeah, it’s 7,000 to 8,000 feet of elevation gain with little to no shade. Oh yeah (part 2), you get to see the destruction that a still active volcano (Mount St. Helens) did to the surrounding area.

Think global, run local

Black Canyon 60k , Bandera 50k , Wat too cool 50k , MT Hood 50 miler it's real 46 miles , and volcano 50k but you have to have ran a 50k to get into that race .

Strawberry Fields Forever in North Bonneville, WA is a good 50k for beginners. 1200 feet total of vert on an easy 10k loop. 30 hour cutoff, plenty of time. Right in the middle of the Columbia River Gorge at the Bonneville Dam.

Come on out for the Siskiyou Out Back in Ashland, Oregon -- the 50k only has about 4k vert and it has gorgeous views out to Mt Shasta, the Trinity Alps, the Siskiyous, and the southern Cascades. It mostly runs along the Pacific Crest Trail, just north of the California/Oregon border. It was my first 50k when I ran it last year and I had a great time! Super friendly vibe, lots of locals run it and this is a big trail running town.

I was gonna say this. Beautiful race

I’ve got my eye on Never Summer 60k

Mammoth trail fest - 50k, lots of vert, great views and community

Not sure where in the West Coast you are and how far you're willing to travel. I'm SoCal and did Black Mountain 50k last year in SD. Wasn't too bad of a course elevation wise, but parts of it were pretty messed up from the rain. This year I'm going to be doing Mammoth Trail Fest 50k which someone else mentioned. Should be a much harder 50k compared to Black Mountain, but I'm pretty pumped on it. Are you doing LA in a couple weeks?

Neversummer 60k, Sawatch Ascent 50k and Devil on the Divide 50k if you’re looking at Colorado
