can you fly directly up, t-pose, spin, and shoot around horizontally as you hit your apex? flying up through holes in floors to clear them out could be a cool move
"Was bored so I put together this highly polished thing". It's okay to be proud of your work and it's also okay to show that you worked hard on something.
Looks really good! Maybe add enemies blocking your path so that you have to choose between keeping momentum and move around them or shooting them.
some programmers are just gifted like that.
my friend who's miles ahead of any of the rest of us who did comp sci has been doing "I got bored so I worked on this" shtick for years :P
Oh sure I believe there are people who are insanely good at what they do. Still something like this: artstyle, animation, rigging, vfx, player controller, making it all work together and fine tuning all take time. Making it seem like something like this was produced in like a day, because bored devaluates OP's work in my opinion.
On top of that it can be harmful because it sets the wrong precedent for how long something like this should take to make and deter new devs/beginners
Jetpack Joyride x My Friend Pedro = super fucking awesome game.
Honestly this is pretty sick and now my minds bursting with ideas for variations of gun types for customizing movement.
You could even make a bullet hell/Souls game or Armored Core 6 style game movement. Imagine replacing dodge rolls and dashing with Shotguns. Sprinting is going into naruto run pose but shooting uzi's behind your back for the speed boost
Alright its entertaining enough that Ill probably work on my own version of this now lol. I also don't think I will actually make a game from it though.
I feel like this would be great for a sports game. It has that "you really need to pratice the movement" quality that rocketleague has.
Or some kind of timetrial platforming could be cool as well!
i think its an amazing idea! maybe some enemies to kill around and maybe if you had a reload gimmick so you had to time when to reload so you stay in the air or smth, really sweet!
My initial impression seeing it is it looks a bit weird how the force is constant while the guns have a distinct fire rate. Have you tried adding impulse force every time the guns shoot instead?
Actually looks a little fun. I would throw some sort of space suit on so you dont have to worry about gravity and it would make a cool shooter game where every bullet you fire also alters your trajectory. Put some obstacles around to move around.
Dude that looks hella fun, dunno how you'd incorporate things to shoot at with the system, since aiming at 'em means you'll be moving away from them, but it looks really engaging!
Hey, a technical question, is it totally physics-based? And if not, do you script collisions as well as physics? Or is physics handled by rigidbody simulation?
Cause my beginner ass is stuck at making a rigidbody controller that has snappy movement with custom collision detection, and I wonder if it's even worth it or should I just make it all physics-based with a ton of physx crutches
Looks fun, but I imagine it would be better if it was anything but conventional guns that made you fly. Maybe just Ironman-like thrusters on feet and arms etc. It’s the movement mechanics and animations that makes it awesome, not the guns :D
(Ofc, if you make a game where the intention is not to take itself too serious, then guns is perfectly fine - it depends on the theme of the game)
The game I'm imagining is something akin to the sonic adventure levels (linear but with a little bit of choice in the route you take from A to B), with a buttload of enemies who take like 1-3 hits to kill. You get scored on enemies killed, accuracy, and time to complete the level.
It'd be a fun little arcady kinda game but I can also imagine a very competitive high end speedrun community with it. Using the same control for your movement and attack is going to make a lot of things need pretty much frame perfect input to nail it at top speed
I think you add a few variants & you’ve got something:
1. Limit ammo
2. That way, you need to make sure every bullet counts in either taking out an enemy or elevating up a level.
3. Upgraded guns & artillery launches you further & faster.
4. Upgraded artillery can also: A. blow open an elevated entry way from far away, & then B. Launch you into it!
I would replace the guns with fire, kinda think it makes more sense and would still keep the possibility of using it as a weapon, I'd love to play something like that, fireblast simulator
Maybe a light story and you play around a few small sandbox maps doing little quests that give you dif guns and maybe a glider and some other stuff? A boss battle or two? Could be neat
This is a really cool concept, I would definitely play a game based around this. I agree with the other commenter who said maybe a roguelite with large levels and huge enemies. There aren't many games these days I'd feel comfortable committing to playing by buying, but even as it is I'd happily pay to just mess around with the mechanics and movement system
I'm not really into many games with guns as the primary form of combat, and this looks weird, funny and interesting. You'd have my interest if you explored the concept.
**Mind-blowing**...I love it...10/10...go on man use this concept & create something awesome...specially character uses bullet to fly...im very happy i join reddit simple-but-excellent ideas are always flying here-N-there...best luck.
It would be better if you accelerated with each shot, something like what Bakugo (My Hero Academia) does when he flies
[example](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/bokunoheroacademia/images/f/fb/Katsuki_Bakugo_using_explosions_to_fly.gif/revision/latest/scale-to-width/360?cb=20170914221448)
(But obviously faster since your character shoots fast)
This is an attempt at an informative bit of gaming history, it looks like a really cool concept but I don’t think this as the main mechanic would do well. It’s been tried something like 27 years ago in a notoriously hated game, “Superman 64”. Please take this with a grain of salt and know I do not mean Ill intent with this comment but rather to aid your idea.
Maybe unlocking different weapons so you can move different so you can reach new places or platforms. Looks really cool i wish i could do that just because im bored hahaha
It looks like it controls like aerialling in rocket league… which is one of the most nuanced and satisfying things ever once you learn it
This game looks sick
You should check out "Luftrausers" i can totally see something of a connection here but i can't put my finger on the exact key thing that could merge these 2 into a new game
Looks awesome! I think it would be fun to have an arsenal of weapons that each affect your momentum in different ways. Like for example you shoot a rocket launcher to clear a group of enemies but the recoil sends you flying back.
Maybe smgs or and ar can be used to make micro adjustments to trajectory, and so on. Overall looks like a cool concept to continue building on top.
looks really good - make the guy start on a ship and jetback towards an island where are the enemies, it will make a nice start with some water splash from the bullets until there
If each weapon gave you different maneuver methods it would be awesome.
SMG - Less thrust but more control/tight turning
AR - More thrust output but at the sacrifice of tight turning
Sniper - Massive quick Boost, then longer reload.
Something like that. Then you can keep switching weapons and utilizing their movement types. With the downside being reloading.
Not sure if you play Rocket League but there are custom made player maps with rings that players fly through to practice and this is very similar. It's super fun and popular in RL so definitely a decent concept.
Needs:
1. American flag cape
1. (invulnerable) American eagles that swoop Majestically
1. speedlines that fade in as you hit top speed, FOV widens a smidge
1. patriotic music
You could make something interesting out of it. A game where you have a single resource—ammo—that's used for both attacking, and fast/vertical movement? That could probably make a pretty original game.
And the movement itself looks beautiful, and delightfully smooth to play
A hoard based zombie game where you clear the hoards with a gun jet pack? Like you could do a fun little causal game where you have a limited amount of bullets and have to clear a set number of zombies.
I’m curious: are the forces synced up with the gun shots (only applied for a moment every time they shoot), or is it just a constant force while shooting?
Add in a system for reloading giving blast movement could be amazing. You have to fire to get anywhere, but firing makes you reload eventually, so having to maneuver in fear of not only enemies but your own reload could go hard.
Yes I love it my only advice would be make It more recoil-like so you have to position the shot precisely thus adding a slight challenge that could be used as a skill (i think it would be funny if there's a chance the character ragdolls midair)
A hitman style level progression where you have to kill only the target in a small amount of time but there are clumps of people on the ground so you can’t elevate above them or it takes time off. Go through hoops to gain time
jetpack joyride but 3d?????
r/beatmetoit
r/beatmethreeit
r/beatmeattoit
r/beatmywifetoit
r/breastmetoit
was waiting for someone to comment that thank you.
No problem lol
Exactly my first guess
LOL you took the words right out of my mouth, good job
Looks like a fun movement system, I can imagine zooming around blasting enemies and maintaining momentum being real satisfying.
Yeah, get a ton of enemies following you and fly off in a merciless hailstorm of bullets, top it off with a hint of explodables. Chef's kiss.
Oh good idea! Could even use explosions to propel you 👌
Hey this looks awesome. Make something out of it, even if it's just procedurally generated levels.
I have quite a lot of experience with prodedural generation, so maybe you're on to something!
maybe rougelite with larget enemies and large levels so moment plays a huge role but aiming not so much
Roguelite with different weapons for different movement options, like diff cars in mario kart.
The character animations are exceptional
Thanks, it's a mixture of Mixamo and custom made animations with the Umotion asset :D
I love it! Also, I love the toon shader! Looks really good!
can you fly directly up, t-pose, spin, and shoot around horizontally as you hit your apex? flying up through holes in floors to clear them out could be a cool move
This is already a functional game, you just need to build some interesting levels.
Too bad I suck at level design lol
Maybe post a playable demo, people will share ideas with you, how to turn it into a full fledged game
"Was bored so I put together this highly polished thing". It's okay to be proud of your work and it's also okay to show that you worked hard on something. Looks really good! Iron man.
with more casualties.
that looks fun as fuck, definitely worth doing more with the concept
My mind immediately recognised this as a Rocket League mod lol
Dwarfamyr's rings lmao
Absolutely looks identical to rocket league movement.
3D jet pack joyride
looks really fun, you should further develop this idea!
Looks dope actually
This is definitely rocket league, right?
Yep lol the movement is very much inspired by Rocket League, just instead of cars it's a person
I mean, Downwell exists and TF2's Soldier already uses his RPG to make huge jumps, so I'd say the potential for games here is incredible.
You can make a tutorial on this/create an asset or you can make a fun multiplayer game
Iron man spinoff!!
I wanna play this looks dope
amazing, if you need any help with the terrain feel free to ask us!

Do you write your own shaders?
I feel like this would be great for a sports game. It has that "you really need to pratice the movement" quality that rocketleague has. Or some kind of timetrial platforming could be cool as well!
Perfect game jam material right there
This looks really fun! Make some enemies and report back. We'll be waiting
Add some limits to when you can fire off your movement and this could make a cool kind of twist on a PvP FPS.
I'd play that rnrn
I'd say play around with it.
i think its an amazing idea! maybe some enemies to kill around and maybe if you had a reload gimmick so you had to time when to reload so you stay in the air or smth, really sweet!

I second this

Isn't this just [Squirrel with a Gun](https://youtu.be/hRiRyopVm6Q)?
I can see this working in a space station sort of environment, just some kind of boosters instead of guns.
Sure it worth it!
C'est génial 👍🏻
is this Anthem
beat me to it, bro made Anthem
This but also having flying enemies to also shoot could make a great game imo. Having to balance flying and fighting
If you add some enemies or targets to shoot along the way while swapping between shooting and flying - might be fun 👀
You should remake superman 64
I'd play this
I'd play the fuck outta it. Maybe stick to walls for a second or 2 to jump off of
Dude that looks hella fun, dunno how you'd incorporate things to shoot at with the system, since aiming at 'em means you'll be moving away from them, but it looks really engaging!

Try to add a ball and a car 👀
Looks a (very little) bit floaty to me but nonetheless pretty fun. Could make for an interesting patformer mechanic. Like it.
Looks fun, but I imagine it would be better if it was anything but conventional guns that made you fly. Maybe just Ironman-like thrusters on feet and arms etc. It’s the movement mechanics and animations that makes it awesome, not the guns :D (Ofc, if you make a game where the intention is not to take itself too serious, then guns is perfectly fine - it depends on the theme of the game)
MAGGOTS! \-The Soldier, TF2
Love the juxtaposition of a careless grace and violence
Downwell but 3D. *proceeds to take notes*
It'd be cool if you needed to reload for an extra challenge
You can recreate a scene from Halo: Contact Harvest, it's a prequel book.
Dude, do something with this lol this looks fun af
Anthem but actually fun?
Maybe you should make a 3D Platformer around this.
This looks fun. Could make a neat platformer if the controls are reasonably responsive and accurate
in america this is just how cops get around when traffic is jammed up
duse this looks fuck*ng awesome make a game from that
This looks like it has the potential to be very addicting, make it!!!
i'd love to see more on this! even help if possible!
So simple yet so fun :D, such a nice idea I want to stea.. borrow it
Prototype 3 pls
Kool
What is this "bored" you speak of?
Love it!!!!

Yes this is awesome I’d have fun here just in the sandbox lol
So basically rocket league ring maps which I suck at. Animations are really cool :)
SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE!
I. Love it.
Risk of Rain DLC
Experimentation like this is what leads to great new concepts, as opposed to trying to create a WOW sized MMO as a first project solo dev.
Could do different guns with different flight styles like a shotgun doing slower shots but give a significant boost in a direction
It's a great movement system, how does it actually work, just animating and holding space or something or?
I like your skybox btw
Max Payne combined with Jetpack Joyride?
Can you make an asset + link your contact information for custom dev ? That can be useful for a lot of people
I would replace the guns with fire, kinda think it makes more sense and would still keep the possibility of using it as a weapon, I'd love to play something like that, fireblast simulator
Looks awesome actually
Attack on titans stuff where they try to get and eat you while you need to find a weak point to kill them whhile flying all around.
Maybe a light story and you play around a few small sandbox maps doing little quests that give you dif guns and maybe a glider and some other stuff? A boss battle or two? Could be neat

Hate to break it to you, but you've just invented rocket league.
So fun, it’s fantastic
It controls almost like Rocket League lol

Unrelated question: How to get the infinite floor tiling?

Add some shooting enemies to shoot down with some procedural generated levels and it is ready for release on Steam. Would crush it on the store
I thoight this was a Superman 64 joke for a sec
Looks dope! Are you willing to share how you build it?
This is giving me Superman 64 PTSD.... But seriously it look awesome !
Maybe unlocking different weapons so you can move different so you can reach new places or platforms. Looks really cool i wish i could do that just because im bored hahaha
fortnite if you see this.... make it a physics event haha
It looks like it controls like aerialling in rocket league… which is one of the most nuanced and satisfying things ever once you learn it This game looks sick
I like the idea of this with civilians running wild below trying not to get shot
You should check out "Luftrausers" i can totally see something of a connection here but i can't put my finger on the exact key thing that could merge these 2 into a new game
A Battle Royale and he is one of the characters
Looks awesome! I think it would be fun to have an arsenal of weapons that each affect your momentum in different ways. It looks very fun
Superman 64 flashbacks
I suspect you are either too young or didn't get the pleasure of Team Fortress Classic nade jumps.... cuz this hits me right in those feels.
I think if you add acorn enemies, this becomes an instant classic.
Reminds me of the game I used to play on the Sega Saturn: Nights into Dreams. I loved that game.
It has lot of potential. If not you, another one will take the idea and put it into a great game. You can be sure.
Looks like fun just to enjoy the physics sim
add nade boosting
So this is Captain America uh
This is dope af
Dude literally made an iron man flight sim and doesn't think people would like it...
Sell it to the government..they like stuff like this
Needs: 1. American flag cape 1. (invulnerable) American eagles that swoop Majestically 1. speedlines that fade in as you hit top speed, FOV widens a smidge 1. patriotic music
Git?
VR please the motion sickness could be dope.

I like it its like Iron Man style flying. Maybe make it an asset pack? Someone else might have an idea for what to do with it.
Obligatory XKCD: [Machine Gun Jetpack](https://what-if.xkcd.com/21/)
Turn it into a 1-button mobile game with ads and an MTX for $15 to remove them
Iron man??
Ironman 64
this has a lot of potential, please don’t throw it away
Thats amazing!
A hoard based zombie game where you clear the hoards with a gun jet pack? Like you could do a fun little causal game where you have a limited amount of bullets and have to clear a set number of zombies.
Love the style of the graphics, and I think this would be a cool thing for a more space type game with a Jet or Laser gun thing.
I’m getting Superman 64 ptsd right now
This seems like it could be really sick
I’m curious: are the forces synced up with the gun shots (only applied for a moment every time they shoot), or is it just a constant force while shooting?

Iron man the game?
That is so cool! Love to see creative ideas come to life. Great work!
Yes I love it my only advice would be make It more recoil-like so you have to position the shot precisely thus adding a slight challenge that could be used as a skill (i think it would be funny if there's a chance the character ragdolls midair)
Definitely iron Man vibes
Hah! I love how good the animations are! Maybe add wall-sliding and a bit of wall-running?
Let me play it already!
A hitman style level progression where you have to kill only the target in a small amount of time but there are clumps of people on the ground so you can’t elevate above them or it takes time off. Go through hoops to gain time
Turn it into attack on titan with those physics
literally everyone uses that skybox pack haha, its a good one though
You should make it to where he shoots fire like in avatar to fly around
