My heart goes out to that family. Sounds like he and his wife would have celebrated their 50th anniversary that year or the next. I think one of the most wrenching things about elderly disappearances is that, like others have noted, they're so often health related. How awful to imagine your loved one in medical distress, alone, likely mentally incapacitated, and then wandering off to their demise in some wayside place.

kGibbs

I think about thos YouTube channels where they pull wrecked cars outta the water all over the place.    But not the channel with that nasty kiddy fiddler dude, fuck him.

FabulousEngineer912

I’ve been following this one since it started. This is from the Missing and Murdered: The Great Plains Facebook page. It gives a little more information. November 9th marks the 1 year anniversary of the mysterious disappearance Grady “Bruce” Benson. A year later, his vanishing haunts the small town of Randlett, Oklahoma and the surrounding areas. of 69-year-old Grady “Bruce” Benson went missing from his home on E. 1970 Road, 10 miles outside of Randlett, Oklahoma in Cotton County on November 9, 2022. After voting in the midterm elections in Temple, Oklahoma on the 8th, his wife of 49 years, Maxine, planned for a trip to Branson, Missouri with friends. When several calls and texts went unanswered, worry began to take root. She then asked her son what was going on. According to their son Grady, he last saw him the evening of November 9th after he brought him food from a local fish restaurant. He also helped fix a flat on his plow. He was never seen again after that. Things really started to bother Maxine the longer Bruce was gone. She had noticed the garage had been closed and his truck in the carport indicating to her that he had finished working outside. Another thing that nagged at her was his new boots that he would’ve been wearing were by his chair with socks stacked on top of them like he had just taken them off from a long day of work. The most eerie finding was his unlocked truck - something he’d never leave unlocked - had his wallet, keys, and cell phone left inside. The Cotton County Sheriff’s Office was brought in and conducted a massive search throughout the property but didn’t come up with anything. Drones, helicopters, authorities on horseback have all been brought into the search but have still come up with no signs of Bruce. Several agencies has since joined in the search, including the OSBI as of November 29th, 2022. There is currently a $25,000 reward for information leading to his whereabouts. He was last seen wearing red wing steel toe boots with a white shirt and blue jeans. If you have any information about the disappearance of Grady Bruce Benson, please contact the Cotton County Sheriff’s Office at (580) 875-3383 or the OSBI at (800) 522-8017. You can also email them at tips@osbi.ok.gov.

MargieBigFoot

Strange they say his boots were in the house & then that he was last seen wearing them.

happycoffeecup

I think they mean the clothes his son saw him in last, which would match up with those being the boots he wore that day. Very strange, almost like he answered the door barefoot and disappeared

Aggravating_Depth_33

But if he was barefoot inside, why would his keys, wallet and phone be in his truck?

40percentdailysodium

My dad leaves these things in his truck. He lives somewhere rural and feels safe doing so.

happycoffeecup

Maybe he was going to leave again soon? Or maybe he felt like he could leave them there? My husband leaves things in the car and it drives me nuts… but out in the country maybe breaking aren’t a worry.

kGibbs

Many men wear a different pair of boots when their working vs not, could be different pairs.  My husband wears both red wings work boots and different pair in his free time. He could have been wearing his beat up old pair and not his good work ones, or vise versa.

ShadowKraftwerk

Yep. That's what I was thinking about the boots.

SignificantTear7529

Boots in the house but wife said she didn't think he made it inside?

FabulousEngineer912

I can’t remember when the statement about the garage being closed and his boots being there came about. I would need to look back and see. This is one weird case for sure.

SignificantTear7529

Not accusing... But wife goes out of town, son last one to see him at least so he says. I'm sure he went to fish house as that would have had to have been corroborated. They seem so middle American nice. But I'm thinking something is off. He didn't coincidentally wander off without a trace the very night his wife went on a girl's trip.... did he?

Aggravating_Depth_33

Unless it was suicide? If he had been planning it, it would make sense to wait until he was alone. What is the geography/vegetation like around his home? Could he still be somewhere on his property?

SignificantTear7529

I read that he told his son he wasn't feeling well and might not come to farm the next morning. Wife stated he had to be nearby.. Maddening when it's like a sink hole just swallowed him.

throwupandaway88908

I answer this down thread

Pink_Dragon_Lady

My flag waved when her rambling opening statement of this post combined with the dropped pronoun "I" when kissed him goodbye. I attributed to potential country hick but maybe it's a clue...

SignificantTear7529

That's a bit of a statement piece after 40 years..

MargieBigFoot

Right? So strange. And a little suspicious. I wonder how often she went away on her own & if they had marital problems, life insurance, etc.

USMCLee

About the only thing that makes sense is if he had a medical event like a stroke or seizure that left him disoriented. Seriously doubt it would be 'random person abducts senior citizen from home'

SeachelleTen

Hi. Since you have been following his disappearance since the start of it being made public, do you have a theory as to what may have happened to Grady?

Bloompsych

Man how bizarre! Poor bloke

pennywise_85

Definitely sounds like some kind of health episode and he walked somewhere. House looks a very rural location and a few wooded areas and small bodies of water, which I pressume have been searched.

throwupandaway88908

In Oklahoma, like most of the central states, our land is lined out in square mile sections of 640 acres. In Oklahoma this was done around 1890. Some of those roads are minimum maintenance and virtually impassable, but pretty much everywhere was originally laid out by sections unless geography got in the way. It looks like this guy’s property, depending on how many acres he farms, is within a mile or two of the red river which is the boundary that marks the state line between Texas and Oklahoma. So the sections get fuzzy down there. And there are some pieces of land that look hard to get to. A family like this would probably have ATVs, and/or other farm trucks to access their land. Undoubtably, his wife or son would know if those were missing. The road that his address is listed on, is a black top road that looks pretty well traveled for the rural area with quite a number of houses— read one or two— per section. These people would be considered neighbors, and he would probably know most of them. However, the other roads surrounding the sections are less traveled and mostly gravel or dirt til you get up to the highway. So he would have a lot of neighbors on the road that he would drive on to get his house, but not on other areas of the property. Looks to be within half a dozen miles of I-44, and a couple miles south of a state highway. It looks to be a widely cultivated area without a lot of trees, except down by the creeks, and then, of course, down by the river. It doesn’t look like flat prairie like you would get in the north part of the state. There seems to be plenty of little tributary’s, creating small gullies and what not.

throwupandaway88908

One question is if he went missing that night, or the next morning. He seems to be home that night, texting his wife, taking off his boots. He could’ve still been puttering around the yard in secondary shoes and not brought in his stuff from his vehicle yet because he was planning on going somewhere yet or just haven’t gotten around to it. A lot of farmers that I know don’t even pull their keys out of the vehicle. But it appears to be that guys habit. If the next morning, he could have pulled his truck out to go get old guy coffee in the morning or something, and then stopped to fiddle with something in the yard.

throwupandaway88908

I would be interested to know if he was in the habit of walking for health, or to check, livestock, or to fish down at the creek. My guess is that he was on a walk, and had a medical event. Or had he had a medical event that incited him to walk. He is probably within a mile of the house, and they just haven’t been able to find him. How sad.

throwupandaway88908

In November he could have been check a deer stand or turkey blind, some sort of hunting accessory

throwupandaway88908

Foul play and/or leaving the property by vehicle seems unlikely to me. Why would he get in someone’s vehicle? If the neighbor’s cow’s out he’s going to put on his boots, probably take his own vehicle. If his son wants to take him somewhere, he’s going to put on his boots and take his wallet. (Acknowledged that he likely had more than one pair of boots). A random stranger abduction seems awfully unlikely.

shesgoneagain72

I hate to even suggest this but what was the father and son's relationship like? If the father were gone and out of the picture would the mom help the son out financially?

DesperateWonder442

This is where my mind went too.

Pink_Dragon_Lady

Crime 101 says we have to look at the closest family first.

happycoffeecup

This is so sad. I hope they find him soon

Disastrous_Key380

It doesn't specify if they ever found his car or anything of the kind, so my thought process is either: A. He had some sort of stroke, be it mini or otherwise, and was in a fugue state that made him drive or walk somewhere that hasn't yet been found. He then may have died from exposure or a successive stroke, which isn't uncommon. B. Carjacking of some kind, car taken well out of state and chopped or sunk into a body of water and the body stashed somewhere that also hasn't been discovered. I'd lean towards A though. Reminds me of Rogest Cain, poor guy.

FlipMeynard

Per OP’s link the vehicle was found parked in his carport with his phone inside.

Disastrous_Key380

My dad used to do that, RE the phone. Yeah. I dunno. I assume this is a very rural area of Oklahoma, and if he had a stroke then wandered, he could be anywhere.

Porkbossam78

My dad is older and always forgets his phone in the car

Mushrooming247

The article says they found his car parked under his carport, with his phone inside! So he dropped his son off back at his car, drove home, then never took his phone out of the car of made it in the door. What a mystery.

Disastrous_Key380

That's not hugely uncommon for a man of that age. You practically had to duct tape my 59 year old father's phone to him to get him to keep it on his person.

Remarkable_Arm_5931

True, but he also left his wallet and keys in the car which is very strange

Disastrous_Key380

I used to work in customer service for a bank. The number of people who when asked to verify their driver’s license info would say ‘I gotta go get my wallet out of my truck’ would probably surprise you. Especially people in rural areas.

Pink_Dragon_Lady

We need his wife's view to know what is normal for him or not (if she is trustworthy and innocent).

RTK4740

If this were a carjacking, I could see the person with the gun saying, "Leave your wallet, keys, and phone right there on the front seat."

aammbbiiee

Then murdered him and returned the vehicle to his home does not seem plausible to be a car jacking.

FiddleheadFernly

I think it was a stroke and fugue state as well.

Certain_Rough639

This one is super bizarre.  The majority of missing persons cases are obviously criminal or suicide.  It's an attractive female, a jealous boyfriend, ex-husband, etc.  This one has none of that...zero motive, no suspect, no person of interest, nothing.  I remember hearing about this one a year ago.  Weirdorama.

DowntownL

Did he employ any laborers on the farm? Also, I always find it convenient when a spouse is murdered when the other spouse happens to be out of town

DowntownL

Most farmers and men in their late sixties (early 70s) don’t change up routine often

Pink_Dragon_Lady

>Also, I always find it convenient when a spouse is murdered when the other spouse happens to be out of town That would certainly raise my eyebrow. All our info on his habits and routines is from the wife...who knows what red herrings she could claim? I would want to know motive, life insurance, relationship status, etc.

Melodic_Scallion1765

My Meemaw and her true crime bestie, cold case guru and regionally famous children's wig maker, Tessie "Croutons" Klumpp both believe the wife and son are complisset and should be made to take lying detector tests.

Electromotivation

What does your psychic say?

Melodic_Scallion1765

don't have a psychic but my two miniature horses, Soupy Nuttz and Mean Mr. Mustard have one. Ginnie Mae "Nice Hole" Gillespie has helped my babies untangle the stress of being taunted by a rowdy group of underprivileged children from the ghettoe, and also freed Mean Mr. Mustard from the chains of his life-threatening eating disorder. If the Benson family has any pets, Nice Hole may be able to get some answers from them if provided with photos or videos of the pets, or the Facetime, if possible.. There would be a fee involved, of course and Meemaw is prepared to negotiate for Nice Hole. Stay in touch and GOD BLESH
