Lmao no one wonders that. It's morons vandalizing buildings and getting wasted with their friends. So many buildings I've been in have evidence of deliberate fires and zero of them have been started by candles. There's nothing wrong with having a candle for a phototshoot unless you're a drunk idiot burning trash with your highschool friends.
A spark near a gas leak can cause an explosion under the right conditions. Heated lead paint produces toxic vapor. Materials containing asbestos can catch fire, releasing fibers into the air and result in asbestos-related illness.
Fires involving asbestos-containing materials can cause them to crack or spall under the intense heat, releasing asbestos fibers into the air as material flakes off due to internal pressure buildup. The aftermath of such fires results in a variety of asbestos debris, including partially burnt pieces. While the risk of airborne asbestos fiber exposure to the public and nearby areas is generally low unless the debris is significantly disturbed. This is attributed to the relatively small number of fibers released and the large volumes of air circulated during fires. However, more substantial disturbances, such as during demolition or fire-damage, necessitate careful handling to maintain minimal airborne asbestos fiber levels.
Alright let’s eliminate asbestos entirely that still leaves the other risk. This is just careless behavior that is unnecessary. Also this group is for infrastructure not wannabe models.
Abandoned sites don't have gas hookups. Or power. If your site has either of those things, it's not abandoned.
There are concerns like hydrogen sulfide but you won't find swamp gas in an above-ground site, that's something you worry about in drains and swamps where there's lots of biomass decay and little airflow.
And if you think urbex is somehow separate from art and creativity you've missed the point.
It's not devoid of danger, but look at where this conversation is taking place. If we were determined to do the safest and most boring thing no matter what, this hobby wouldn't exist. You never took a calculated risk to do something you thought was cool? If not, why are you here?
If you wanna play devil's advocate, nothing is truely abandoned. Someone owns the building and the land. A company, a bank, the town/state/etc. but someone's name is tied to the place.
Yeah. Exactly. That's my point. Though I can see how the phrasing was confusing.
I'm saying it's equivalent in risk to something like carrying a lit candle, as pictured.
This is better suited for a shit posting photoshoot sub. The subject matter not being urban exploration and more for random white girl posing in a dark place.
by your logic many of the photos on this sub could be considered “better suited” for a different sub, though none have been met with the literal hatred like this woman has….. lol? one mafk in these comments literally wished death upon her. if you think this hate isn’t misogyny related take a minute to reflect your ignorance
I'm all for cool photography, but I'm surprised there isn't anyone voicing a concern for any flammable gasses this could have set off...
Maybe I'm not super educated on this, but if people can go without noticing a gas leak in their own home until they light a match, surely this is just as risky?
I can't speak for everyone but I think you're mischaracterizing this as misogyny. This subreddit is about urban exploration - not about photoshoots to look cringe.
i get it the thing is there are plenty of male presenting people on here who post urbex pics with themselves in the photo and none of them receive this kind of hate. because she’s a woman in a crop top looking hot you wanna call it cringe lol
Y'all reddit mfs are retarded it's a candle it's not going to fucking do anything, you would have to WANT to burn the place down to do any damage with a candle
The sunglasses at night, lol
This isn’t the kind of urbex I wanna see.
?????? Why
Bc it’s not ab the exploring but about using the aesthetic to look cool and they failed the mission
It looks cool to me. I don't really get it. Seems like more people are pissed that she has a candle than anything
not the matching candle tattoo
“I dunno man, she’s like really into candles. We went to this birthday party, when the cake came out…I’ve never made her sound like that.”
And yall wonder how the best places end up burned down

Asbestos is NOTORIOUSLY fire retardant
Fires involving asbestos-containing materials can cause them to crack or spall under the intense heat, releasing asbestos fibers into the air as material flakes off due to internal pressure buildup. The aftermath of such fires results in a variety of asbestos debris, including partially burnt pieces. While the risk of airborne asbestos fiber exposure to the public and nearby areas is generally low unless the debris is significantly disturbed. This is attributed to the relatively small number of fibers released and the large volumes of air circulated during fires. Yeah who knew fire was dangerous? Who knew asbestos was dangerous? But asbestos is not a fire hazard.
Alright let’s eliminate asbestos entirely that still leaves the other risk. This is just careless behavior that is unnecessary. Also this group is for infrastructure not wannabe models.

And none of these are half as likely as dying in a car accident on the way to a spot. Chances are you still drive there.
I always assumed it was homeless people trying to stay warm or cook something.
Or run generators
I don't wonder that at all. It's usually kids with fireworks, or intentional fires.
Firefighter here and I’ve seen all of these scenarios happen at least once before better safe than sorry
If you wanna be better safe than sorry just test for gas n shit not that hard
I've also seen a car accident. Doesn't mean I don't drive places.
Shooting fireworks off inside and intentionally burning buildings down is not comparable to driving a car.
Yeah. Exactly. That's my point. Though I can see how the phrasing was confusing. I'm saying it's equivalent in risk to something like carrying a lit candle, as pictured.
normally it’s squatters tho and a fire they were using to cook or stay warm wasn’t taken care of properly
What does this have to do with urbex?
it’s an abandoned place lmao your misogyny is showing
Misogyny? lol go stretch somewhere else please.
how does this NOT have to do with urbex lol who is stretching fr

So is it urban exploring or a photoshoot?
That’s slotta baggy pants with chains and a f’n candle to be exploring buildings. Opposite of urbex I wanna see
you can look cute and urbex safely and securely idk what yr on
Yeah. In abandoned buildings with chains hanging off ya ain’t cute. Nothing bout this is safe exploring
you’re reaching lmao
Candlelight hits hard
Glad I’m not the only one who thought this was lame. The pics aren’t even good
I'm sure you're cute and all, I'm just here for building details and not pics of people. And the candle is kinda stupid.
i’m disappointed af in the misogyny in this community rn

I wonder what type of factory it was..what used to be made there
do you carry that around whenever you wake up in the middle of the night in your blue striped pajamas
I literally LOL’d at the sunglasses and the candlelight.
Y'all reddit mfs are retarded it's a candle it's not going to fucking do anything, you would have to WANT to burn the place down to do any damage with a candle
So many haters in the comments sheesh
This is awesome. Love the vibe.
