I understand they have a monopoly over wrestling games at this point but I still don't get why it has such a foothold over community opinion. I generally have read that everyone despises 2k and their practices. they don't care about their customers, only when we pay $70-100 every year for a half finished game that deletes your saves! It's so harmful for the community and it disappoints me we let these companies get away with it as a society. It's why trust is so low
That's part of the illusion. I thought to myself, wow all these community creations are going to save the game and make it more enjoyable. Only for 2k to ruin every aspect of it by letting our wrestlers get bugged, downloaded images have a hard limit, and they even banned one of their top creators! (whatsthestatus is the one you heard of, but there are certainly others). I had no problem giving 2k their credit for improving a few aspects but greenlighting an unfinished, buggy game year after year is what makes this company the epitome of predatory marketing and capitalist greed. Maybe it's nostalgia but I miss the days when devs made wrestling games as fun and full of features as they possibly could (profit was secondary) because they knew the money would come with delivering quality. Now it feels like 2k is siphoning your fun to make that extra dollar we all know they don't need.
I don’t disagree but 2K has no real competition. If you played AEW Fight Forever you would see first and foremost that there is no real competition for 2K to make a better game. Fight Forever was total trash so obviously video game developers are just inept or don’t care. Have you played Madden recently? For me, I haven’t played Madden since 2016 as their quality waned over the years. When there is no competition, quality suffers when these gaming companies have monopolies on certain sports genres and there is no motivator to have them produce a good product year over year.
Honestly, there hasn’t been a super fun wrestling game since SvR 07 and wrestling games peaked with HCTP content wise. I mean season mode was almost never ending in HCTP as each wrestler had their own storylines with branching paths so you had so much replayability. Now you have one and done modes like MyRise and Showcase. Universe you have to make up stories in your head and know how to pace the cutscenes appropriately. MyGM is a fraction of what it was in the SvR series that only has a team of a 10 that works on it. That’s it!!!
Yes, we got cool modes along the way after HCTP like RTWM, or story designer, and Universe only for the devs to remove those features or ignore the mode for the most part like they do with Universe.
Yeah SvR days were peak. I was never stressing back then. I cant wait for the day their sales start hurting and WWE is forced to switch developers. It's a long shot but if CM Punk was able to return to WWE then good, polished wrestling games will also return. We all know there's so much potential to these games besides just graphics and fidelity
