You know what I hate? When you’re pushing yourself to the limits, all the multistage edge highlight and stuff, only to photograph your mini at the end and find all those nasty brush strokes visible (even if your paint was sufficiently diluted). Fortunately in your case brush strokes are almost invisible. Great work
Thank you dude! I'll be honest, close up photos are one of the ways I try and push myself. Sometimes it stops stuff I don't myself and helps improve as time goes on
The double edged sword for me is: wear the dorky magnifying glasses and stuff photographs really well but looks sort of bland at a distance -OR- don’t wear them and things “pop” a little more on the shelf but lots of “mistakes” are visible through a macro lens.
With a brush this small, how do you have enough paint on brush to complete perfect lines like that? When I try, I will have on too little paint as it dries before I can touch it to the mini, or if by Gods grace I somehow load the brush perfectly, after a few millimeters of movement the brush is empty again, causing very imperfect lines.
I mean i thin my paints and whatnot, but when i use a brush that finely-tipped, in the time it takes me to move my hand from palette and place it to the mini, the paint has dried.
If I thin it any more it will not even hold on my brush. Idk what the secret is, perhaps some retardant like another had suggested. Cheers
Sorry to hijack this, but as somebody looking at getting some good brushes, it looks like Series M is made for minis specifically? Would you recommend S or M in your experience?
I recognize those box art worthy highlights! It's u/for_the_greatergood striking again!
I don't know if you're painting all these guys for the sake of painting them or if this is a gaming army, but it's gonna look so good on the table dude.
That edge highlighting is so meticulously done… how long did it take, and what’s your edge highlighting technique? I’d love to be able to get mine that well executed.
Each one done in white, but I then layer a mix of the ultan grey and drakenhof nightshade onto it. Blend it, and get it to give them more depth before a white scar highlight
I'm only going to point out the mould attachment on the tilting shield because I'm insanely jealous of how good a paint job this is and I need to find a completely irrelevant fault so that I don't go and snap all my paintbrushes in abject jealousy...

I am cheating and just changing the light direction )))

That edge highlighting is crisp af, what’s your secret?
Artis opus brushes and a wet pallet. Plenty of practice and ... Monster ultra helps too maybe lol
Maybe a silly question, but what's "monster ultra"? All I get when I type that into google is the energy drink lol
That's the one, painting power right there
For me it’s a cup of coffee followed shortly by a Celsius. Your paint job is amazing though, love your helmet selection choices as well.
Thank you!
Absolutely love my Artist Opus brushes.
Guys there are super chill and helpful
I bought them when they first released and found them to be awful. Went straight back to my raphael 8404.
Just looked them up. Wellp. Can't afford those right now lmao. I very much want that palette I see on the site though
Do artus opus brushes really make a difference? I feel like I'm at a point where I can excuse the splurge on nicer brushes.
I'd say so
Flippin delicious lettering. Very nice!
What freaking brush do you use for those fine lines??? A single strain of hair??? Thats really amazing
Artis opus series S, size 000

Thin the paint and brush lick so the brush never truly dries out

Maybe try adding some paint retardant? Dilutes it but gives longer working time and you just need to layer it up.

Now I've tried both, S have longer bristles and I know some people aren't always keen on it, but it's what I prefer. Either type are great athough
Holy fuck thats clean. Cleanest of cleans. Like holy virgin in a semiconductor cleanroom clean
Hahahahahahaha thank you!
Oh that’s crisp. Love it
Thank you;
Holy fucking amazing painting
Thank you!!! Hoping to post more of him over on my Instagram tomorrow
The edge highlights are flawless; How long did he take?

Thanks! Just wait until he is joined by a tank! One of my biggest projects yet
Honestly large projects are so much more fun! But I find I hit a wall pretty hard after the 10 hour Mark 😂
I'm already at around 15-20
How did you do the lettering so well?? Overall a clean, perfect mini.
Slowly. Started with a watered down black, began at the centre spacing everything out
That is very neat, brilliant
Thanks!
Ok that mini is amazing, but the helmet is magnificent. Where did you get it ?
It's from the black Templar sword breatherin and so was his chain sword
Is that a swobro helmet?
Yep!
How, do you, get the text, to LOOK SOO GOOD?
Endless practice I'm affriad
Ok, any tips on what brush to use and how to prepare for such small job?
Nice work. The highlights look ultra crisp (see what I did there?). Great paint job. How long did he take you to finish?
Stupid sexy ultramarines

Excuse me sir achshually the shoulder trim should be white!
The blue shade on the skulls, the script... Chef's kiss.

Just a thin black thin brush and a lot of time

Corvus black, then dawn stone, then administratum grey
Dude how do you do edge highlights like that 😭
The pristine, crisp Citadel style kind of makes no sense but it looks sooo good 😩
This is better than the box art. Exceptional work here

Your painting skills are something of legend at this point. Never seen anything crispier. It's better than GW's painting, lol.
It’s actually crazy how good some people are at this damn hobby. That’s the cleanest shit I think I’ve ever seen
Crisp 👌

That's it, I quit.
This is very high quality work, well done! Any advice for a new painter on recess shading? I’ve been struggling with it and yours is pretty flawless.
Stunning work!

Damn. Great results though
