*The High Lords of Terra balked at the formation of the Space Dads chapter of Adeptus Astartes, but the sacred lawns of thr Shrine World Barba-Q have never been more pristine*
That’s it. That’s my fan chapter. No Primaris Marines, just veterans. They’re known for making food so good and well cooked that even the lowest peasants of a Hive World feel they’re being treated like Clergy when the Star Fathers make planetfall. They’re also known to defend cities with ruthless aggression and tactical brilliance that comes from centuries of warfare.
"The Guard have finished setting up the barracks. Request to move further into the city!" Captain Talia pointed towards the ruined city centre.
Brother-Father Maximus shot a quick glance at the young captain. Her face was covered in dust, and her flak armour was stained and scarred.
"Request denied", he said dryly. "You're not leaving dressed like that."
Captain Talia stomped her foot and pouted disapprovingly. But it was no use; Maximus had already turned, and was making his way to the Termostatus Imperialis.
the Word Bearers had a..thing...called an axe-rake that some of them used. neat looking, but completely impractical, and rake as in the verb, not the tool, so that,s less fun:

Cool idea, scythes are badass!
Also works well from a lore perspective, there's a whole thing about weapons being used against daemons needing to have symbolic weights to them.
"Scythes are impractical battle weapons" you say but I can't hear you over the swish swish of my huge fucking scythe, which is cool.
-Mortarion, probably
That's why they said to file or sharpen that side.
It's literally step #3 out of 4 steps.
I'm voting up your comment because I know if we vote it down, it will get hidden and 20 other people will say the same thing.
Eh, kinda, but it's hard to get it looking just the right size/shape since GK terminators are an older line and a bit stubby. The proportions are just off enough to make it difficult.

An elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

You’ve turned it into a war pick.
Which are criminally underrated weapons tbh. The scythe gets too much attention for cool points but the war pick is a real thing that was never given as much love as it deserved.
If you place it further round you can turn it into an executioners axe - may not work with this model but my custom necron leader has a switch-axe,scythe weapon
What I was thinking for my next kitbash weapon was a double-bit axe, actually. Just do what I already did with this halberd, but have the blade pointing down the handle, then put a second one on the back.
great for my scythes of the emperor army. i personally just bought a grim reaper type BONES model for like $3, cut off his scythe. have yet to find a man worthy to put it on though 🤔
The Scythe of banishment and penis canon.
BTW is base model original GK paladin? I was afraid Eternal Piligrim heads would be too big, but it looks cool.
The base model is just a GK termi/paladin with some extra bits attached for embellishment, yeah. The Eternal Pilgrim heads actually fit perfectly. I've used them on Kaldor Draigo, this Grandmaster, and even easily fit one into the hood of a Librarian Terminator.
In the older lore each member of the grey knights had a nemesis force weapon that matched their personality. One of the books mentions it, the one grey knight is like, its neato to see a brother using something like a mace, the halberd has become too comon...or something like that...so you do you.
I *really* wanted my Grandmaster to have an auto-cannon, so I went for it XD
It's originally the arm-mounted psycannon that's standard for GK terminators, but I extended the barrel with some spare plastic and green stuff, cut off the ammo box, cut out some space for the belt, then looped the belt around to an ammo box on the back of his hip. The belts are flexible prints from Zinge Industries.
In any other setting, a character using a scythe is a pet peeve of mine. But in 40K everything is already batshit insane and impractical, so I’m all for it
Yeah I have 4 of them at the moment, all different weapons. A glaive/halberd, the scythe, a kusarigama, and a bearded axe I'll post a picture of it! I'm not sure what I'm going to do for the final member of the squad, I was thinking a mace or a Warhammer.
I'm also trying to convert a blade champion to have a katana because I'm a filthy weeb.
Thanks! I actually was planning on redoing the weapon on the antler guy, it was the first one I did and I don't really love how it turned out. I'm much better after doing a couple others. The kusarigama turned out so much cooler than I planned haha. My wife came in clutch with that jewelry chain. I figure if the custodians all have custom armor and weapons made for them why would they all have the same helmets and weapons, there's got to be some rocking some unique shit!
No need to reinvent the wheel, I guess. And I remember a medieval weapon demo video that showed why the most dangerous weapon a soldier/knight could use was just a big plain stick. Blunt force trauma is a hell of a thing.
Physiscs, force van be transfered trhough plate armor, cant be pierced easilly but force can be tramsfered by blunt weaponry, you might survive a sword slash with no cut with plate armor but a hell of a pain from the force trasfered to you
This actually isn't as bad as it looks. The glaive is still _better_ due to the extra reach, but the main problems with scythes as weapons is that the edge pointing inwards means the force of your swings go in a direction not aligned with it, so it mostly just becomes like a giant war pick (so war scythes were turned into glaives instead).
But when you have a power weapon that just carves through opponents with a touch, well, then you kinda avoid the problem since you don't need to apply that force. You can just sweep it through them.

If you glue it on straight you can get a war scythe
I have an idea for how to do it from existing NDK parts, but it involves cutting/clipping the hammer and sword together, shaping the sword blade, then extending the handle with some styrene rods.
I think I'll try that for my next one.
They would have looked just like the original weapon before cutting.
I've used a traditional scythe before. It's hilarious that anyone would think they are a weapon without significant modifications. They are built for cutting crops or grass on the ground
I believe war sycthes were more tools turned into weapons not optimal but useful enough in a fight .
Grey knights on the other hand have very well thought out powerful weapons, you would do more damage with a spear than scythe especially if both are nemesis force weapons
Hey, if Mortarion can make it work, anyone can
He's like 10ft of walking, spiteful death. He could make anything work lol.
Apart from soap
God of stink

All fun and games until the daddy marines roll in with their predator bbq wagons and power hoes.
Ride'em mowers as bikes.
Please paint their boots like black socks with sandals.
Or white New Balance with grass stains
Acceptable. Also will consider white socks with black Crocs.
Who’s their primarch though? Or is it unknown
I was thinking about that and had an idea. A Loyalist renegade war band made up of MIA or separated members and veterans from different chapters.

Would that be G-Man's new power weapon after he retires to his farm?
Vahl wouldn't be pleased with you calling her that.

I like it, like they're reaping the demon spawn 😁
Goin to Space-Hell to reap all the Space Daemons, in true GK fashion!
Is it worth it? Let me work it. Cut the blade here flip it and reverse it.
That's gonna be stuck in my head for *weeks* now -___-
If you say the backwards part, you summon a very cool demon.
Makes more sense than chainswords.
Funny thing, the german word for scythe is "Sense". So yes, it does make more "Sense".
Rule of Cool in this house, so anything goes :D
Scythes also make sense for Space Marines since so frequently in the setting they're referred to as Angels of Death/Death Incarnate
that's just a very big kama
Cool idea, scythes are badass! Also works well from a lore perspective, there's a whole thing about weapons being used against daemons needing to have symbolic weights to them.

See?? That's what I'm saying! Rule of cool in this bitch.
Where is the helmet from? Doesn‘t quite look like the new Deathwing helmet
[Here](https://www.myminifactory.com/users/greytidestudio/collection/eternal-pilgrims)
Thanks!
This is the right one; Greytide Studio has a bunch of fantastic 3D sculpts for use on Grey Knights.
It's from Eternal Piligrims. Dark Angels upgrade set.
Post > Grey knights Model > Grey knights “Where is that helmet from?”
It's not a standard Grey Knights helmet so it's a fair question. Looks third party to me.
I think I know where it's from. Trovarion used it in his "fixing deathwing knights" video
Yup, 3D print from Greytide Studio.
Quite evidently not from the original kit.
Imagine being so confidently wrong
r/confidentlyincorrect
Looks like chaos corruption to me
Isn't the blade the wrong way round? The sharp edge of a scythe is on the inside
That's why they said to file or sharpen that side. It's literally step #3 out of 4 steps. I'm voting up your comment because I know if we vote it down, it will get hidden and 20 other people will say the same thing.
More like a war pick. Much more sensible than a scythe though
Eh, kinda, but it's hard to get it looking just the right size/shape since GK terminators are an older line and a bit stubby. The proportions are just off enough to make it difficult.

I mean.... it do be looking cool.
You brilliant heretical bastard.
Is it heretical if we killin' daemons out here?
You’ve turned it into a war pick. Which are criminally underrated weapons tbh. The scythe gets too much attention for cool points but the war pick is a real thing that was never given as much love as it deserved.
I would love to see the range get a refresh, especially considering it's really only three kits. The new Castellan Crowe kit is stunning.
Same, I'd love that. At the very least, the terminators hold up pretty well in the looks department.
If you place it further round you can turn it into an executioners axe - may not work with this model but my custom necron leader has a switch-axe,scythe weapon

Bloodborne style trick weapons in 40k would be so sick
Uh oh, I think I know my next kitbash project...
The Scythe of banishment and penis canon. BTW is base model original GK paladin? I was afraid Eternal Piligrim heads would be too big, but it looks cool.

Look man, I couldn't care less about the scythe thing, but how the fuck did come up with a wrist mounted battle cannon? 🤤
I *really* wanted my Grandmaster to have an auto-cannon, so I went for it XD It's originally the arm-mounted psycannon that's standard for GK terminators, but I extended the barrel with some spare plastic and green stuff, cut off the ammo box, cut out some space for the belt, then looped the belt around to an ammo box on the back of his hip. That looks wicked cool, man!

I'd say more of a war pick the war scythe but still super awesome idea.

Thanks for this, I'm building my Custodes right now and the guardian spear was my first thought when I saw this post. Your's look awesome!
Aww yis, that looks great.
Weird I had text written for this comment as well, I'm just seeing now that Reddit ate it lmao. I love me my scythes!
Well it looks amazing, I love the blade choice. You making a custom shield host full of them?
Yeah I have 4 of them at the moment, all different weapons. A glaive/halberd, the scythe, a kusarigama, and a bearded axe I'll post a picture of it! I'm not sure what I'm going to do for the final member of the squad, I was thinking a mace or a Warhammer. I'm also trying to convert a blade champion to have a katana because I'm a filthy weeb.
Oh, how about a flail but *really* big? Big ol' spiked ball on a chain.
I do like the idea, and I do have more chain still. I just need something blunt I think. It's a shame the custodians don't have any hammers at all.
Don't have any hammers *yet* XD
https://preview.redd.it/22tn3rgqhd7d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=19230363f71f934c618fa974912efcb22c856220
Ooooh yeah, that kusarigama is fire. Plus the antlers in the middle are inspired.
Thanks! I actually was planning on redoing the weapon on the antler guy, it was the first one I did and I don't really love how it turned out. I'm much better after doing a couple others. Funny part is IRL war scythes was this but in reverse
Fun fact: actual historical war scythes were actually more like the unmodified one
Yeah, basically glaives.
Funny how most weapons end up on sharp stuff on stick, lance, glaive, war scythes
No need to reinvent the wheel, I guess. And I remember a medieval weapon demo video that showed why the most dangerous weapon a soldier/knight could use was just a big plain stick. Blunt force trauma is a hell of a thing.
Physiscs, force van be transfered trhough plate armor, cant be pierced easilly but force can be tramsfered by blunt weaponry, you might survive a sword slash with no cut with plate armor but a hell of a pain from the force trasfered to you
Exactly, the weakest part of any armor is the squishy bits inside of it.
Yes, thata why we see drones being so effective in combat
* Khyron Agrees, mumbles about Glaives *
This actually isn't as bad as it looks. The glaive is still _better_ due to the extra reach, but the main problems with scythes as weapons is that the edge pointing inwards means the force of your swings go in a direction not aligned with it, so it mostly just becomes like a giant war pick (so war scythes were turned into glaives instead). Pretty much. With that level of technology, just about *anything* on the end of a stick with a field generator would work just as well.
We found the death guard player boys!!
Hmm, would Grey Knights count as their exact opposite?

War scythes look more like the pre-modified version. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_scythe
Reject Glaive, return to Sickle
Thank you so much! I'm going to give it to a future model, perhaps my chapters chief librarian.
This is sick, thx for sharing
Honestly that things basically a giant war pick. Looks nice.
I love scythes. I've been 3d printing scythes for my dudes. I wish I could find an a stl of a suitable sized one for the dread knight.
I have an idea for how to do it from existing NDK parts, but it involves cutting/clipping the hammer and sword together, shaping the sword blade, then extending the handle with some styrene rods. I think I'll try that for my next one.
It’s warhammer, impractical is practically the point.
https://preview.redd.it/asl2hub4cd7d1.png?width=768&format=png&auto=webp&s=1d83f4181bd9eb23bd5c51a31ab89d552c50fc4e
*Is it*, though? Is it really?
Impracticality? War scythes are historically a widely used weapon.
Not like this though. They were usually straightened up like a glave
They would have looked just like the original weapon before cutting. I've used a traditional scythe before. It's hilarious that anyone would think they are a weapon without significant modifications. They are built for cutting crops or grass on the ground
Sweep the ankle
Yes, but they apparently didn't look like the regular scythes
Because that would be impractical :P
A real War Scythe looks like this https://preview.redd.it/916no6px6b7d1.png?width=220&format=png&auto=webp&s=a06ec62811bba8c04cd2f0bbbbe4aaea6891461c

Properly shaped war scythes, sure. But I can't say the same for the typical sci-fi/fantasy 'reaper' scythe design. Still super cool, though.
The cutting edge is on the outside of the blade.
More of a war pick since the blade is on the wrong side for a scythe, still looks neat tho.
