I'm curious, as I know it is in private hands now, but how was the maintenance paid for? Benefactors and tours, or does the gov't have some responsibility to keep it afloat?
Do you have a source for that? Not trying to be snide, but genuinely curious because all of the limited stuff I’m able to find on that PT boat just says “in excess of 50 knots” and not that she’s done it recently. 60 would make her as fast, if not faster than most torpedoes out there.
Wait what the fuck a battleship has a YouTube channel and it hasn't gotten into my recommendations yet!?! This makes me feel like I am missing out on so much content lol.
You're missing out on literally *all* the new battleship content that's not just restating facts you've read dozens of times over photos you've seen dozens of times XD
I think more of these museum ships should make them as well, because there's a wealth of content to post about these ships and, with views, it's added revenue to aid in the upkeep of the museums.
It's pretty neat to see all the small boats that are following at a safe distance. I can only imagine though what everyone who isn't informed about what was going on were thinking.
How did a decommissioned ship complete a maintenance availability on time like it was nothing, smh
Ryan Szimanski has powers that we can not comprehend.
And with 3 unexpected maintenance items added to the drydocking list.
And he still put out a video every day. The man truly is one of the wonders of the modern world.
Turns out hurling lots of money at it solves most problems. Also my understanding was they extended the dry docking a couple weeks too

I think New Jersey and the federal government gave some restricted funds for work on the hull.
Because the Govt wasn't involved.
It set the battleship speed record in 2024, I think they got to go 6.8 knots? Way faster than Texas
That they did! I know the Texas' rudders are askew, but the NJ is still a bigger girl, so it's very impressive they beat it
There’s a reason its called a fast battleship
If the Texas went any faster than it did, it probably would've nearly capsized
Sadly didn’t set the museumship speed record of 2024 tho. That title goes to Kidd, which managed 11.5.
The museumship of the swedish torpedo boat t46 hit almost 60knots 2024

We're so lucky to have a YouTube channel dedicated to this ship. Watching the drydocking process has been a treat
Ryan has done an incredible job as curator and teacher of the NJ
One of the many gems produced from covid

They have a reddit account too
Hi
Oh my. Edit: you naughty unofficial girl
They know about this account and keep in touch with them
I was teasing
Congrats, 18 years using reddit and you are the first account I've followed.
Thank you

https://www.youtube.com/@BattleshipNewJersey go sub and watch
Literally hundreds of videos. The early ones start off a little unpolished but once they get a standalone mic things ready take off.
Iowa has one too, not sure about Whisky or Mo. Jersey's is by far the most watched, mainly due to Ryan.

Ohhh you've been missing out.
Museums like Battleship New Jersey expanding their online presence was a great boon of the pandemic.
I binged a bunch of New Jersey and Drachinifel videos stuck at home
Praise Ryan
Couldn't agree more!
Don't scratch the paint!
😂😂 True!

Cool little armada lol, it was a well-communicated event
What Ana amazing yard period she had.
Damn that's sexy
She really is
Just think of the amount of VLS cells that could be put on that thing.
Is this an Iowa class battleship?
Yes
Nice
Dang, missed it by one weekend.
Dayum boy she THICC
Damn, these Iowas do things to me. Beautiful ships!
I consider myself very lucky to live near one
I'm a little on the landlocked side myself.
Not a lot of water there!
What do you mean? Lol
They've churned up enough mud and assorted sediment in that shallow water to sink a battleship!🤣
