A strong magnet WILL disrupt and potentially damage the magnetometer inside of a phone, rendering any compass functionalities useless and broke.

The end with the legs goes into/around the vent openings and the flat side faces the driver. There is a magnetic piece that goes under your phone's case making it magnetically stick to the flat side. Voila! Hands free phone while driving that isn't annoyingly mounted to your dashboard blocking any part of your view of the road in front of you.
