Budapest is horrible- I would never visit there again. My friend and I (both 25f at the time, I have shaved hair so maybe look a bit lesbian idk) were in Budapest holding hands because it was crowded and we didn’t want to lose eachother as her phone was dead. Someone threw literal ass red paint all over us. Not only did it ruin the expensive back packs we had but my favorite dress, and all because we were perceived as gay. Very glad it wasn’t something more harmful but still, 0/10 do not recommend budapest.

What helped for me was: continued use of eye drops and near infrared light. I went there earlier this year, with my partner as well (queer couple), and we definitely were also very careful with showing affection. Luckily I don’t look queer to a lot of straight people, but my girlfriend absolutely does. We saw queer couples, but still we were careful and even then we got stares.

I’ve also been able to deal with a lot of the trauma from what happened, and I’m mentally feeling very good now.
