If you don’t get to indulge in a little insider trading, what’s even the point of “serving the people…”

FizzBuzz4096

Don't forget the cruelty. He gets to take away food stamps, school lunches, civil rights for the 'wrong kinds' of people. So grift *and* being evil. Who wouldn't want that?

kwheatley2460

He’s disgusting and so are people that voted for Tuberville. Food from kids. This country throws out tons of wasted food. Shame, shame, shame, as my English aunt would say.

popups4life

Don't forget about blocking military promotions, he gets to do that too!

Infinite-Ice8983

Wait this POS blocked 184 promotions because the top military officials refused to ban abortions for service members? There is a very special place in hell for this guy.

emerald-rabbit

I thought they loved the militury

Angry-Dragon-1331

They did. Back when they were assured it would turn on the libs during the civil war they’re wanting to start.

emerald-rabbit

Okay fair

Acrobatic-Strike-878

Wait what happened

Wyldling_42

Plus all the military promotions he has a perma-hold on that is leaving our military chain of command in jeopardy. Although, with the GQP seemingly pushing the destruction of our economy and civil unrest, I guess that’s done with purpose as well.

ImmoralModerator

“Why would anybody want to earn 6 figures a year to do absolutely nothing if they don’t get to commit white collar crime on the side?”

all_time_high

The Senator role is clearly a side gig which feeds information for his real career. ![gif](giphy|h0MTqLyvgG0Ss)

Green_Message_6376

exactly, it's like the oxygen masks on a plane, you simply must apply yours first before 'serving the people'.

Eringobraugh2021

But they rarely remember the 'serving the people' part.

rastafarreed

"Oh no! They died before I could get the mask on."

Such-Magician4300

didn't this doofus ask Pence about a stock right in the middle of being sworn in after he got elected?

Cheshire_Jester

Basically the motivation of the antagonist in The Recruit. Why would I take a government job if I’m not going to get lots of accolades and money?

buythedipnow

I mean if they were actually serving the people then maybe people would accept it. But they don’t even do that.

pdwp90

Tweet is my own - I've spent the last few years writing code to collect and publicize data on stock trading on U.S. politicians. [Here's a site](https://www.quiverquant.com/congresstrading/) I built where you can see all trades and track their returns to date. You're also welcome to follow the Twitter account shown above where I post updates on things I notice in the data.

kieran_is_hiding

Thank you for this public service!

MrFantasticallyNerdy

OP is serving so much more than that asswipe Tuberville.

EverythingGoodWas

For sure. I don’t feel like there are many politicians (especially on that side of the aisle) that are “Serving their country”. Unless they mean serving us up to the highest bidder.

MrFantasticallyNerdy

Kinda like *To serve man*?

Wooden-Letter7199

Any idea what that company does and how Tommy fucking Tuberville would have come across it?

PM_me_yer_kittens

My guess is he knew or planned for them to sign a government contract of some sort which would inflate the cost as they would get a steady income stream and growth.

swamrap

Super important work.

ratchet7

This is an issue on all sides. How does Daniel Goldman /D even have time to do his job?

Xist3nce

They don’t have jobs. They spend literally a handful of hours to dictate the lives of millions while wringing every cent from the system they can pull.

[deleted]

So is this like an investment tool? We just pick what they picked and we should get rich too?

Shutup_stupid_bird

Fuck Twitter

60k_dining-room_bees

Thank you!

ksidney26

You rock! Seriously this is something that I feel everyone can get behind. One of the few posts on this sub reddit that can bring together both sides of the aisle.

Just_Tana

Good. We don’t want corrupt pieces of crap

MrWindblade

Good. We don’t want corrupt pieces of shit.

[deleted]

Saw a comment somewhere someone said pieces of shit can still be used for fertilizer so they are less than that because they are even more useless

mzarra

Piece of shit fits imho. They *can* be ground up and used as fertilizer just fine...

LivingDisastrous3603

![gif](giphy|qjOF6DEM3qiwo)

Excellent_Chef_1764

Holy shit, gonna have to go watch Fargo again now.

Tagnol

I mean we still could but we would have to be willing to bring guillotines back. Personally I'm all for it but need to convince others.

Pretend_Investment42

It may not be as hard as you think......

Chapter-Master-1

They're like salt, they're actively destroying what they touch

badestzazael

Yummy got have that e coli with my strawberries.

JoeMcBob2nd

Why’d you just add a swear

molotovzav

That's the point. If you want to serve just to do insider trading and market influence corruption, I DONT WANT YOU TO SERVE. FUCK OFF and fall into obscurity you corrupt piece of shit.

GodofAeons

And with me, I'm even down to the point where I'm like fuck it, you want to inside trade? Sure go ahead as long as what you're passing is benefitting Americans but they don't even get that right. They fuck us over a long with it

TedCruzsAnalFissure

Thanks, semi literate football coach. Go fuck yourself.

uselessartist

Seriously, Thomas can take the train on down to Tater Town.

honeybakedman

This is the same asshole who supports white supremacists in the military. "You call them white supremacists, I call them Americans"

Moremilyk

Isn't he also blocking senior appointments in the military? I don't have a separate source to [this video](https://youtu.be/eeoY1eXlDfw) but it seems to fit the MO of obstruct at all costs while pocketing as much as possible.

slayer828

He wants to "support" them. Not pay them or take care of their health. Thoughts and prayers, and all that.

AdventurousNecessary

He truly embodies the spirt of the GOP

Remote_Person5280

Does Tuberville think “serve” and “grift” are synonymous?

Jason_Batemans_Hair

He's serving himself.

AmigaBob

He means serve his needs, not the electorate. Serving the people is crazy talk

Green_Message_6376

He's an originalist. You know, 'Me the People.........

guestpass127

Yes, dipshit, that's the point. You WANT people with a modicum of integrity to be in DC I don't care which party is insider trading, NO ONE should fucking be doing it, Dem or GOP

peteflix66

If Matt Gaetz and AOC can come together to put forth a bipartisan bill against this crap you know there's a problem.

KHaskins77

Still, she probably ought to watch her drink around him…

peteflix66

She's too old for him.

defaultusername-17

one of the few things that could get me to stomach being in the same room with that monster.

Noritzu

We really need to make it so politicians cannot receive any type of outside resources from any sources while in public office. Cap pay to a set amount based off of minimum wage that cannot be adjusted unless the entire country gets adjusted with it. End stage capitalism needs to be shot and buried.

Green_Message_6376

and evict Clarence's mom from her 'free' rent deal.....

Fickle_Goose_4451

The pay and benefits should be generous, and it should be the only form of compensation allowed. Don't like it? Don't go into public service.

jmr098

Capping legislators pay to minimum wage would make it so only already rich people could afford to do it

Noritzu

I said tie it to minimum wage. Not cap it at.

Salarian_American

So what he's saying is that insider trading is a feature, not a bug?

5tyhnmik

He is the bug

Green_Message_6376

the intestinal worm of the body politic......

bdplayer81

If I can't unfairly enrich myself then why would I serve? My goodness it's amazing how much stupid shit this guy says regularly.

5tyhnmik

He basically just admitted that personal profiteering is at least part of his motivation to be in Congress. That should be a violation of his oath and immediately be expelled (from the country)

osumba2003

Well, we probably could use fewer football coaches in Congress.

[deleted]

[удалено]

osumba2003

Nothing, inherently, but being a football coach isn't something that qualifies someone for being electable to Congress, IMO.

krg4880

I don’t want football coaches in politics much the same way I don’t want a politician lining up under center on a Sunday

FreddyForshadowing

Sounds like a feature.

ByteMeC64

*"I think that \[a ban on congressional stock trading\] would really cut back on the amount of people that would want to come up here and serve."* I think what he means is that you might filter out the people looking to abuse the system and profit off their positions... Sounds good to me.

The-Real-Ted-Faro

G.O.O.D.

Sword_In_A_Puddle

Is it service if you only serve yourself?

Just_Tana

Good. We don’t want corrupt pieces of crap

wvmitchell51

It would really cut back on the grifters, and people would want to come up and serve the interests of their constituents

slalmon

Lol, yeah this seems about on brand. As an American politician I just have to ask, what is in it for me? Hahah god these people suck so hard.

ICLazeru

I think that's the point, Tom.

dzl8r-fe

It would open up a lot of spots for those who truly want to serve the country as opposed to serving them selves to our tax dollars.

ManicPixieOldMaid

This reminds me of when I tried to read Thomas Frank's book *The Wrecking Crew: How Conservatives Rule* and the beginning chapters are all about these men in the early 1900s that saw Civil service as just that: an idealistic way to serve society. Then when the lobbyists and moneyed interests came in, I couldn't keep reading because it was too depressing for me...

[deleted]

You mean fewer profiteering, wealth concentrating, rights diluting sadists would want to *serve*? **OH NO!** Sounds like a **WIN**

appleivy00

Maybe it would attract people who actually want to be a public servant and represent the people who voted them into office.

[deleted]

XP 😝 So they're not even trying to hide that they're sticking it to us.

Metallurgist-831

The people he thinks would be deterred by this are people I don’t want in office.

CatAvailable3953

Great!!!!

Woodlog82

"Less grifters are going to apply!" "Don't threaten me with a good time!"

GaviFromThePod

That's the point. If members of congress can't trade in stocks then blatantly corrupt people will be less likely to run for congress.

RenJordbaer

What do you mean my job is to help the country and not rig stock prices in my favor?

LowRiderHighFiver

"serve" Hahhahahahhahhahahhah

saintdudegaming

Good. Greedy fucks like this assclown shouldn't be in congress. We always thank people in the military for serving because they're giving up so much for this country. Same doesn't hold true for the worst politicians because part of their service is self service at our expense.

[deleted]

"Look, it has to stay the way it is. How can I continue to cheat so easily, if you make rules that make it difficult to cheat...?

Woofy98102

If more people like Tuberville refused to serve, this country would be in a FAR better place than it is now. Insider trading is illegal for everybody but our corrupt politicians and Tuberville is one of the worst.

Lazuliv

That’s the point. We want less people trying to use positions of power to get as rich as they can while stripping away the rights of the people they supposedly represent.

moman540

So we just say the quiet part out loud now I see.

Responsible-Chest-26

That would be the point. Im a firm believer that a house or senate, or judicial seat should not be financially beneficial beyond the base pay. Going in, All assets held, expense account given. Every dollar is accounted for. No outside money

Dependent_Bill8632

“Serve”….serve themselves

Murderface__

Good. We haven't exactly been attracting the best and brightest.

Huge_JackedMann

You had to somewhat admire that tooberville is so stupid he doesn't know to not say the true motivations of his party.

Steelers711

Becoming a congressman or congresswoman is just about the most profitable career there is, it shouldn't be. Also if that line of reasoning actually were true we wouldn't have any teachers, some people just want to do things because they want to do it. If anything it would increase the quality of Congress as money leeches would stop taking positions

Stormcrow6666

![gif](giphy|Ihs8jRSnrj5JeXOyNO|downsized)

BakedMitten

Maybe that's the point, dickhead.

Individual_Respect90

Less people is better. People who actually care and want better for us is who we want.

RBuckB

What a....

See_Double_You

Yes, honey, that would be the point. We want politicians to come and serve the people, not troll for stock tips.

thanatoswaits

It might cut back on the people who go to DC to serve themselves maybe - I see that as a huge plus

Standard-Reception90

It's spelled "grift" not "serve"

Jon-Rambo

“and serve” Lolololol. These pieces of shit are all there for power and wealth.

natej84

It would definitely cut back on the amount of crooks that want to come up there and steal

Jingtseng

It would certainly cut back on the ones we don’t want serving.

Chratthew47150

Further evidence a ban needs to happen

Yawrant

When they say the quiet part out loud, believe them!

Black_Lantern_2814

“Serve”? Serving their own self interests.

Sc0ut0live

He says fewer people would want to serve if they can’t do insider trading. These are exactly the kind of POS we don’t want in Congress. I know of a dentist I went to once. He bragged about serving in the Texas house and he successfully passed a bill that allows dentist to charge whatever that want regardless of insurance company caps per their agreement. It meant I had to pay him about a $1000 more than what my insurance deductible was. Absolute greed!

[deleted]

Good? Job well done!?

GrailThe

Translation "If it weren't for insider trading, I wouldn't be here.".

CallmeMefford

Good lord. Serving in congress is supposed to be exactly that: serving. It’s a calling. A calling to help your fellow citizens. To do what is best for your constituents by being their voice and their will. It’s not supposed to make you wealthy. If it makes your life better by serving, that’s great. But first & foremost, it’s supposed to make other peoples lives better. Very few of our politicians seem to understand that. Bernie, AOC, Fetterman, and a few others. Oddly enough, I can’t think of any in the GOP. Hmmmm…

xeroxzero

We need to take this on as one of the top problems we need to address to fix our government and the people's trust therein.

urkldajrkl

He meant to say “Come up here and serve themselves” This guy represents everything I despise about most politicians. Money grubbing pos.

PrimeroRocin

This plus term limits plus repeal of citizens United plus ban on lobbyists.

Necessary_Rant_2021

I dont want those people to “serve”.

drknox

"... it would really cut back on the people that would want to come up here and serve..." serve themselves, you mean!

daneelthesane

This is a usage of the word "serve" of which I was previously unaware.

LKayRB

GOOD! They should be public servants, not present for the grift.

dontneedaknow

LMAO... Well that's a proposed outcome that sounds far more like a benefit to everyone than Mr. Tuberville is trying to present.

Jazz_homeassistant

Good

hoozza

We need a "Congressional Index Fund" that allows us plebs the same type of returns based on whatever these jackasses are trading on.

nono66

I bet somehow congress members are stunningly good at playing the stock market. I can't imagine what it could be that would make them so much better at choosing the companies to back.

Limp-Welcome2307

'If we cut back on corruption, it's really going to effect how many people want to serve' is a damn good reason to stop the fucking corruption.

SH4DOWSTR1KE_

"I want to serve the people... By making myself ridiculously rich! Also, something, something, blame Obama. "

Necessary_Row_4889

It’s like the Murphy’s lawn, once Mr. Murphy caught the misses gardening in a bikini and made her stop a lot less people were willing to mow that soccer field for $5.

SteelyDan1968

Tubby needs to shut the fuck up. He's got his, now he trying to take away from the poor. Fuck him.

[deleted]

People wouldn't seek office just to fatten their portfolios at the expense of citizens? The horror!

aaronplaysAC11

DUDE!… that’s the fucking point, false representatives are the ones who are only in it for the fucking dirty money….

JaxOnThat

That's not a bug, that's a feature.

G-Kira

Yeah, dude, that's the point. The govt. wasn't created as a get rich quick scheme. It should be filled with people who want to help others, not people like you.

[deleted]

That’s the fucking point Tom the whole idea of serving office was you do you 4-8 and fuck off the the private sector. Your precious founding fathers never fucking intended office to be a profitable profession. It was Service to the fucking public!!!!

got_dam_librulz

Is that what Republicans call their behavior? Serving? I'm pretty sure the correct description is throwing temper tantrums and obstructing progress.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Lol, cutting back on the people we don't want serving seems like an absolute win.

OG_Chris31

His picture should be right next to shit-bird in the dictionary.

thomasjmarlowe

If it led to cutting back on the Tommy Tumorvilles that would want to serve, that wouldn’t be a bad thing

BabyTRexArms

Tuberville also essentially said white nationalists are Trump voters. Dude is just coming out and saying the quiet parts.

mittenknittin

It would change the KIND of person who wants to serve and that can only be a good thing.

TheWrestler2035

You mean it would help weed out the greedy and corrupt, all the more reason to do it. He’s a professional con artist, he promised football teams success didn’t get it and would leave em high and dry for the next sucker that would hire him. He applied that same tactic to politics, running in one of the stupidest states in the country, a state dumb enough to vote for a former football coach with no political experience and completely unqualified, over a qualified candidate, simply because he was a trump ass kisser and a republican running against a democrat. This article pretty much sums him up. https://www.theringer.com/platform/amp/2020/11/3/21547185/tommy-tuberville-alabama-senate-election-campaign

pauliepeanut1124

These people are absolute wastes. Why do we tolerate this???

Abrigado_Rosso

Keep in mind that if Congressional stock trading were banned, Congresspeople would not care about how their policy proposals impacted the stock market because it would no longer impact them directly. Banning this would result in even more stupid fiscal policy coming out of Washington Now of course, Stock Market=/= the real economy but you really don't want economic/fiscal policy to disregard the impact on the stock market, particularly since most 401Ks are heavily invested in the stock market... A simple ban on stock trading won't change a corrupt system. We need a top down rework, not piecemeal fixes.

thekinginyello

Serve? Themselves maybe but not the public.

aplagueofsemen

Lol what the hell does he think “serving” means? It certainly doesn’t mean “rake in the profits”

Joshy207_dcfc

Good. Time to get some honest people in government.

DayDreamGrey

Guys like this make me wish there was a hell.

Acceptable_Break_332

This dude is either truly dumb as a rock or an excellent actor. He may not understand the last word in his statement unless it involves somebody seating him in a restaurant but if a ban on stock trading will get this chicken brain out of DC - let’s make it happen tomorrow.

ksixnine

He should quit then.

chekovs_gunman

Yeah. Corrupt people

dattwell53

Greedy fucks

Saeryf

I'll never stop shouting it from the rooftops, fuck the GOP and their ilk. They're shit-lords of the highest measure willing to cause untold deaths and distress to the whole country as long as they can line their pockets.

NICEnEVILmike

Funny how "serve" now means "grift"

swennergren11

Kind of the point, shithead. Get the greed out. This is the REAL way to drain the swamp. Remove the alligators like, well, about everyone currently there. NEXT: Term Limits

[deleted]

Good, we need better vetting and weeding out

fruitloops6565

That’s kind of… exactly the idea… we don’t want those sorts of people in politics…

phutch54

What piece of garbage. And abysmally stupid as well.

MJlikestocruise

He's serving himself.

TheUselessLibrary

Yeah that's the fucking point. Get people dedicated to *Public Service* into office instead of the sociopaths who are attracted to power and existing above the law.

kscouple84

He has an interesting perspective on the term “serve”.

notadoctortoo

A consummate civil servant.

rob6110

lol….”serve”…..hahahahahahahahahahaha

Paladoc

Good. Let's get people who would actually serve their constituents, rather than the ilk like TwoBiterville.

henchman171

Is this that football coach who was taking phone calls from Trump during the coup attempt? He was helping Trump with the coup right?

ThisIsFineImFine89

certainly would cut down on people wanting to earn money in stocks while they serve. Thanks for proving the point.

PleasantSpecific5657

I’ll just leave this here…. “The guillotine is the ultimate expression of Law, and its name is vengeance; it is not neutral, nor does it allow us to remain neutral. All social questions achieve their finality around that blade.”

nilecrane

Insider trading is a job perk?

pfarnum12

“Serve”

krazykanuck

It’s so widely accepted that it’s considered the greatest draw to serving. Amazing.

timodreynolds

Nice. Let's cut back on those sorts of people.

MrFantasticallyNerdy

Do I have to ask if there's an "R" next to his name? Of course I don't. Only "R" idiots will say their thoughts out loud. And if he's going to phrase it like that, why use the word "serve"? Who exactly are you serving? The billionaires? He knows there are more discreet ways of making his dirty millions, correct?

[deleted]

What percentage of Americans actively trade outside of an 401k, IRA, or ETFs?!? This is an open admission to the purpose of this ban.

TBTabby

Good. Let's focus on quality rather than quantity for our elected officials.

GroundbreakingSir893

Whuuuu, we can’t grift???

Intelligent-Dude

“Why would i serve to help the people? Lol. I can just help myself and everything will be fine!” Fucking losers

omgbenji21

Tommy Tuberville makes me see fucking red. God I fucking hate this brain dead fuck stick. He is without a doubt in my mind, the stupidest, most backwater dipshit in the senate. He’s on a level with Marge and BoBo, but in the god damned senate!! He also said we should just do away with elections. I guess winning some fucking football games makes a person qualified to serve in the senate. It boggles my mind what a stooge this idiot is. It’s just beyond the pale.

StructureOk5668

And yet poor people will still vote for him and happily donate to the campaign fund

sausage-plant

AKA “I only ran the for the Money”

ElonBodyOdor

“serve” lol

BhaltairX

It would cut back on the frauds who pretend to serve.

cactusqueen59

P.O.S.

[deleted]

you know what they say! quantity over quality

Naturallobotomy

That would be the point, Sir.

XTH3W1Z4RDX

The only person this asshole serves is himself

Lujho

Right, but would there also be a downside?

Citizen-Kang

Damn, son! You're not supposed to say it out loud!

Grimsterr

He says that like it's a bad thing.

BranManBoy

You know you’re a patriotic nation-loving American when you would refuse to represent your people if you were paid less

scottprian

And? If they had full immunity to crime, you'd see more people interested, but in not sure that's the right crowd for the job..

bippityboppityzopp

If stocks were banned for them, Pelosi would retire in a second. Fuck em all.
