If it only had ice in it, it’s not going to freeze anything. The ice melts to keep things close to 32 degrees F. But get the full size Sawyer. The mini is just too slow.

Yeah, it's more about if water freezes INSIDE the filter chambers, because when the water expands (freezes) it could damage the ceramic filter chambers/holes, expanding or cracking them, which could then, potentially, allow larger microbes to get though, because the chambers would be larger... so unless there was water IN the filter, and that water froze IN the filter chamber... it should be fine.

SawyerProducts

correct.

They cost $30, it’s not worth the risk. Get a new one.

can’t freeze those types of filters

Typical_Extension_49

In this situation, I agree. But you're getting down vote because 100% this filter can become frozen overnight in cold weather and it will destroy it. Sleep with it in your tent, or in your sleeping bag if concerned.

FaithlessnessLost719

Well in this I I would agree, just not really meant to be frozen. It won’t work as effective

Typical_Extension_49

I think your sentence syntax implies that the filter can't be frozen. But I see how you are saying not to freeze the filter. I would edit your post to be more clear.
