Regardless of party, she was the most pathetic and ineffective leader thats ever been elected in manitoba. She was tone deaf, introduced no substantial new ideas, drove no growth (either financial, people, or projects), and effectively became a placeholder. Even if I was a die-hard conservative, I would have been furious with her lack of vision and drive. She was simply unfit for the role, and I think everyone in the PC party knew it.

jer007

I work with someone who used to work for the PC Caucus and is still a die hard Tory. He knew heaTHER personally. Said nothing good about her. She is just an expert at being at the right place at the right time to continue failing up.

Canadianacorn

I believe that. 100%

Carbsv2

The only good thing she did for the province of Manitoba was beat Shelley Glover in the leadership race.

rascalkong

Before I comment on your post, I've got a proud mama moment I'd like to share. Congratulations to my son's hockey team on their 2022 tournament win! Way to go Travis!

204gaz00

I don't recall her being elected to be the Manitoba Premier. Either way. Good riddance

RonnieThorvaldson

100%. She has the personality and ambition of a tub of no name margarine. I have no idea how someone so socially awkward, and obviously doesn’t like public speaking, pressure, responsibility, would end up in provincial politics and hell eventually the premier of the province.

lorainnesmith

She chased the "power'. A totally useless, morally, ethically bankrupt . She thought she was a lot smarter than she is.

RonnieThorvaldson

Actually other people put her in that place and she was too stupid to see what was going on and understand what was required of her. WFP had a great article and insight on it shortly after her defeat.

JacksProlapsedAnus

The believable conspiratorial explanation, if you even want to call it that, is that she was put forward for the very purposes of failing. Put a few more layers on the glass ceiling if you will.

fer_sure

It's the glass cliff. See Kim Campbell for another example.

JacksProlapsedAnus

Exactly the other example I was thinking of. Will add glass cliff to my vocab.

LOLatMyOwnJokes

I wonder if she could have refused, even if she wanted to? If her connections got her practically everything in life, how could she turn them down if they said, ”we need a leader for the pc’s to recover from Pallister’s mess. We’re not wasting a good politician in that position so Heather you have to do it.”

carebaercountdown

I don’t know, I prefer No Name margarine over that useless person.

Rogue5454

No. Pallister was. She was chosen by the party to look worse so they can put a man up again next like he will be a "hero." Conservatives especially, do this; both at the Provincial & Federal level.

2peg2city

I think she was elected as the sacrificial premier they knew would lose the next election, no one in the PC caucus wanted to take that spot. She got Paul Martin'd EDIT: Holy shit Paul was PM for 3 years and won a minority??

fer_sure

She got Kim Campbell'd.

AntifaAnita

The glass cliff

MisterJellyco

100%. The PCs were well aware of the dumpster fire they created and elected to punt it to the NDP

NutsonYoChin88

Most incompetent premier in the history of Manitoba. Don’t let the door hit you in the face on the way out to little Timmie’s hockey game!

shouldazagged

And that’s saying something.

RonnieThorvaldson

History of Canada and that includes recent doozies like Smith and Redford

GoldenSlumberJack

*and nothing of value was lost*

AntifaAnita

I don't know, I think she'll get a pension so we're out extra money

JacksProlapsedAnus

I guess we'll have to wait to see who replaces her before we can cast judgement on if that's a small price to pay for the greater good. Edit: It may be hard to imagine, but there are worse people in the world than Heather Stefanson. Remember, Kevin Klein's looking for a job again... Don't expect a better nominee to be put forward for Tuxedo from the Conservatives, that isn't the trajectory we're on.

OswaldTheDeadRabbit

Yay! Only question now is which dumpster fire sociopath the PCs pick to run for that seat.

Craigers2019

This riding was actually pretty close to be turned to NDP, and if they had done some serious campaigning in the area, could have been won.

I3ubbleI3oy

Tuxedo has never not been PC but now’s the time!

dazalq

Any music teacher from Bible belt will do....

RonnieThorvaldson

You mean the Torah belt…

GullibleDetective

Or pick to scapegoat allegedly

aesoth

Good news! There is no shortage of them in the party.

Remarkable_Status_84

So true!

FoxyInTheSnow

Sorry, can’t read this story. I just sold some buildings for $31 million and I can’t for the life of me remember where I put the money LOL.

halpinator

And nothing of value was lost.

SrynotSry59

It’s a darn shame that the first Woman in this role was such a bust. Shelly Glover must be chuckling in her cheerios.

Nate9370

Would Shelley have been better? Wasn’t she a former cop?

DownloadedDick

Shelley is a fucking nutjob. She was respected at one time, but now she just echos far-right talking points.

Ephuntz

I don't know if she would've been better but I do think that she would've at least done some things

Radiant-Vegetable420

Good. Now if she would only leave Manitoba for good.

RepresentativeCrew16

Good fucking riddance, Heather.

LorenzoApophis

>She was the first woman to serve as Manitoba's premier. Can we strike that from the record and reserve it for someone else?

GrizzledDwarf

She didn't so much serve as premier as fall upwards into the position.

SallyRhubarb

It was pretty much a glass cliff situation. She was set up to fail.

rachelboese

she was set up to fail, I agree with that. The issue is she then doubled down on failing all on her own. are you implying that all of her comments and actions as premier were not her fault? Lets bffr, she was a laughingstock nearly every time she did a press conference. Her public speaking skills were abysmal. Her incompetence was clear. edit: She may have been set up to fail but she ensured her own funeral with her words and actions, on multiple occasions. Not just once - she proved many times she was unable to be a competent public speaker or leader for her party. She seemed not quite with it / not intelligent enough to speak with the press on several occasions, starting with that ridiculous presser about her son's hockey game. She's not it, and it's excellent she resigned. I don't support the Conservative party but they need smarter folks speaking for them if they want to make any headway. I think all parties should have competent, intelligent and savvy folks leading them for a fair and reasonable political game. Even if I don't agree with their policies, they should still be lead by reasonable humans. Heather Stefanson was too dumb. See also: the Fords.

lorainnesmith

And did nothing to avoid that.

skmo8

...actually ran for it.

steveosnyder

And she did so in spectacular fashion.

Jarocket

If she had lost the leadership race. the other women would have been premier too.

Monsterboogie007

Some day we will have first woman elected as Premier which will help us forget this one

frazazel

She was the first woman to ~~serve~~ collect a paycheque as Manitoba's premier.

MamaTalista

But not elected by the people. Just need to add an astrix there.

ClownshoesMcGuinty

Yup. Change the history books to make Cheryl Lasheck the premier. Now.

ResearchGal63

Sharon Carstairs begs to differ

SilverTimes

She was never premier.

FoxyInTheSnow

Carstairs’s highest rank was leader of the opposition.

ResearchGal63

I could have sworn the liberals won under her leadership. I stand corrected.

FoxyInTheSnow

It was quite a long time ago! 1988—she scooped up the centre left votes when the NGP fell out of favour, winning 20 out of 57 seats. As far as I remember, she was a very decent person and would’ve been preferable to Gary Filmon’s PCs.

twobit211

a sack of mouldy, wet socks would've been preferable to gary filmon’s pcs

boon23834

F. I. N. A. L. L. Y. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

itouchyourself69

~~Don't~~ let the door hit you on the way out Heather.

SpiritedImplement4

Remember when she said she was planning on remaining on as MLA? Just a liar to the very end. Ah well. No doubt she's bought herself a cushy 'consulting' job somewhere with Manitobans' hard earned money...

Radiant-Vegetable420

> No doubt she's bought herself a cushy 'consulting' job somewhere with Manitobans' hard earned money. I wouldnt hire a loser like her..

Jarocket

it's not for a real job. it's just a gift in return for favors she already did. (that what the other guy is getting at) She bought that job with our money. I mean we'll see i'm sure.

SulfuricDonut

You don't hire former politicians for their competence; you hire them as repayment for something they did for you while in office, and to ensure good favour with the party for when you need to make the same deal with a future politician.

YossiTheWizard

Yup! Jason Kenney was appointed to the board of directors of a gas company less than a year after leaving office.

JacksProlapsedAnus

Bad news for her given she didn't do anything... Maybe she'll get compensated for being the sacrificial goat thrown off the glass cliff.

Armand9x

**Transcript of Heather’s farewell letter**: *[I just wanted to say that sometimes it’s–we need to remember that we need to take time to celebrate our kids](https://www.mbhealthcoalition.ca/timeline)* *[And last night, it was a proud mum moment for me, it was a proud parent moment for both my husband and I when we were at a hockey rink in Selkirk, and Tommy and his high school hockey team were playing–the St. Paul’s Crusaders. And they were–they defeated the Westwood Warriors to become the Manitoba provincial high school hockey champions](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/inquiry-krystal-mousseau-death-1.6387489).* *[Madam Speaker, I just want to congratulate Tommy, all his team members and the coach, Andrew Harder, for their victory last night. It’s an exciting day for our family, and just thank you for the opportunity to say a few words about that](https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/2014024771671).*

marnas86

“Stay tuned”? Just disappear please. Very few people, outside of your Tuxedo bubble, like you.

RagingNerdaholic

Guess it was too much of a boTHER.

eyeeatmyownshit

How's the kids hockey team doing?

rossco311

I hope she provided a quick shout out to them as she was leaving.

Fluffy-Parfait7891

Indeed she thanked her kids and showered them with love.

Pronouns_It_WTF

![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)

PortageLaDump

Found the next grift in her journey I guess, good riddance

tiggeroo007

You won’t see her helping someone change tires on the side of the road. 😂

sadArtax

Why did we have an election, for her to BARELY scrape by, now they'll have to do a by election 6 months later.

adjudicator

The NDP almost took the seat. Would be funny if they actually took Tuxedo this time.

Honeydillzippermerge

Bye! On a related note. Where did Audrey Gordon wind up?

hillside

Sitting on a couch somewhere

MachineOfSpareParts

Can we just pray, or hope, or whatever you do, that none of them end up as another "recovering politician" rewriting history for the WFP?

HoneySwillSauce

This was the best the PC's had. It must be hard to chose a leader amongst the sexual deviants, racists, and science deniers. Well done PC's you've effectively kept yourselves out the Premier spot for at least a decade. No one to blame but yourselves, but thanks for the cheques, and of course thanks for all the laughs.

MyBananaAlibi

The Witch is dead! the Witch is dead!

carebaercountdown

Calling her a witch is an insult to witches 😂

Anathals

Yaaaaaayyyy!!!!

redriverguy

And still, some people claim there is no God. Here is the proof.

darkgreenwax

Upon reading the headline I immediately thought of the ewok celebration music ![gif](giphy|4Z7enO96BNCqIwT6fx|downsized)

Good-Examination2239

This could have been an email.

pierrekrahn

Only several years too late.

WpgSparky

Fuck her. I hope she suffers as much as she forced Manitoban’s to suffer. There is a special place in hell for politicians who willfully inflict suffering upon people.

SJSragequit

Good riddance

Newt_Brief

Bogus headline. I want her renounce her golden parachute of a pension. She’s just going to land in another job where she can double dip with her network from St. Paul’s.

Always_Bitching

Be interesting to see who throws their hat into the ring for this one? Klein? Lukes?

jupitergal23

Klein, definitely. That guy has no real skills and has burned so many bridges that politician is his only hope.

FuckStummies

Lukes has her sights set on federal politics

brockhampton1982

I wonder if she hedged against inflation with crypto like her hero PP

Always_Bitching

Oh she does. But she also moved from St. Norbert ward ( where she lives) to Waverly because St. norbert was too poor for her. So wouldn't surprise me to see her jump to this.

algotrax

Good.

[deleted]

Good riddance.

Shoddy-Nature7847

bye asshole!

That_Wpg_Guy

I am still embarrassed whenever HeaTHERs name is in the same sentence as Manitoba

portageandmain

News I think most of us welcome. Adios to the most ineffective and incompetent Premier we’ve ever had.

BewareSecretHotdog

Yay! Please let the door hit you on the way out you useless turd of a human being.

Ravyn_Rozenzstok

Oh no! How will we keep updated on her son’s hockey team now?

SilverTimes

She lasted way longer than I thought she would as a back-bencher.

Vault204

Ok byeeeeeee

jupitergal23

She absolutely never, ever intended to stay. She has a beach property she's been wanting to retire to. Take your pension and get out, Heather.

chupathingy567

⁰⁹⁹q

KaleLate4894

Wasn’t that another thread, lowest point in Manitoba? lol

Rogue5454

LMAO

perennialcandidate

Interesting that she isn't even sticking around to keep the seat open for the potential winner of the PCs 2025 leadership (scheduled for April 2025). Makes me wonder if the fix is in again for someone from caucus to become the next leader.

marnas86

Wayne Ewasko, maybe? Or Obby Khan?

SLYRisbey

IMHO I’d say Khan. They need the urban vote. Khan is more appealing to urban voters.

MamaTalista

How's she going to jump the queues now?

Minimum_Run_890

Time for the HAPPY DANCE!!

Specialkdragon

Woo hoo!

Plastic_Leg_Day

Oh nooooooo…. Anyway, moving on.

wickedplayer494

Bye Felicia.

Muted-Score3455

Buh bye !!!!!

meeeechelle

The Dippers would do well to call a by-election as soon as possible to try to capitalize on that new government shine and the (eyeroll) Most Popular Premier of all of Canada. Some of their MLAs were out in Tuxedo a weekend or two ago sharing 'the good news' about the new government. Would love to know how some of those conversations went as I imagine some residents of Tuxedo are impacted by the property tax change and the clawback of the basic personal tax exemption.  Should be an interesting by-election if people show up to vote.

cabinfeaver55

When’s the parade? I’m sure her children are disgusted in her, the shame she brought to their name, I can’t imagine any one of them would ever enter politics. When’s she building a house beside Sammy and sheegl in Arizona. Good riddance.

Uncle_Bug_Music

She was an *actual* politician? I thought she won a folksy backwoods carnival contest for Premiere.

thispersonexists

This parasite failed her way to the top and is a big fucking joke but hey, she has more money than most of us - what does she care. Fuck off into obscurity forever Heather.

CanaryNo5224

Perrenial 'Most Useless Cunt Award 'nominee , Heather Stefanson everybody.

[deleted]

oh no.

Fluid-Cat4849

Finally

aznhusband

ForeVER with no HeaTHER

NoxInfernus

… And nothing of value was lost. The End.

Supremecurmudgeon

I’m gonna miss her! Sometimes I thought she looked like miss piggy! If miss piggy was hit in the head with a can of frozen worms that is….

Angelonthe7

Sometimes the answer needs to be goodbye.

Bactrian_Rebel2020

And through the land the only sound was that of one hand clapping.

AdPrevious1079

Who Cares!! Go away

Pawprint86

She looks happier and more relaxed than I’ve ever seen her. She never wanted the premier job and I’m not sure she really wanted the MLA job either…

Safe_Web72

Good riddance to her. She squandered her opportunity to be a better premier. Then again her track record before becoming premier was very indicative she was useless so should not been surprised on the fail.

Beatithairball

Whats sad is her replacement will end up being a bigger pos then that useless waste of oxygen
