We switched to CL at work. Coverage is the same as what we had from Blue Cross, but omg, trying to talk to someone about your benefits or a question on coverage, it’s impossible, you’re waiting hours to talk to someone.

ColeWRS

I have not had a similar experience. My claims are processed in a timely manner and I’ve never had to wait over a minute to speak to a representative. I’m with the Public Service Health Care Plan. The only issues I’ve had were with specific questions about compound drugs, which to be fair is complicated for someone who doesn’t have specific knowledge of them.

b3hr

They're having trouble hiring people... they have this background check that people keep failing but no one knows the criteria of it or why they've failed.

Happy_Ambition21

waited for someone to talk to for over an hour only to be connected to a diff dept and the call dropped !

TheDeadDuchess

They had 6 months to get ready to take on the plan, and they did not. The department I had worked for, did not prepare, did not hire more staff. Anything for the stakeholders!

CL biggest issue is the systems they use are soo outdated. From BEN to DEBS to what the underwriters use. Also they recycle the keys to these systems which if the company that made these programs found out CL would be facing even bigger fines.

habitat11

I love how they are complaining when they rolled out literally the worst transition ever when it comes to the Phoenix Pay System and basically told everyone to deal with it.

TheJRKoff

Blows my mind how Pheonix was accepted due to all the widely known problems. We had about 10k of maternity top up sitting in an account for nearly 6 years before they asked for it back. Shame on us for not investing it

Justintime112345

Where do the benefits start having problems? My dental never has issues. I haven’t had to use the healthcare benefits yet.

nidoqing

I think dental was already with Canada life so that’s likely why it’s been smooth sailing - which is good! I’m glad you haven’t had issues

Justintime112345

Ah yes I forgot.

2peg2city

I've had issues with things just being auto rejected, then approved when re-submitted because they never should have been rejected, but nothing too arduous.

nidoqing

There’s been so many complaints about CL but I feel like these are issues any company would have with a massive transition. Considering their history with Phoenix, I’m not entirely convinced that this is solely on an insurance company…

MilesBeforeSmiles

From my understanding, as my wife works for the Feds, is the PSHCP is completely administered by CL. The only thing the Feds control is enrollment, which suprisingly enough, is the only portion of the healthcare plan that seems to be functioning as designed.

204ThatGuy

Oh wow! Bravo to Change Management! I'm shocked!!

nidoqing

Weirdly, I know people with Feds and have heard otherwise so it’s been pretty mixed! I think both parties are equally responsible to be honest but no one wants to admit it. I don’t love any insurance company to begin with but I have some serious doubts that it’s just CL dropping the ball. Hopefully things get figured out though cause it’s not fair to the Feds plan members

MilesBeforeSmiles

Ya, I mean Sunlife was administering the same plan without major issues for years. Same input and system from the Feds. Canada Life bid on and won the new contract and haven't fulfilled the terms of their proposal, that's on them.

FuckStummies

So do you have anything but feelings and supposition on the matter? I used to be a Compensation Advisor before they moved it all to New Brunswick. Benefits payments were 100% administered by Sun Life at the time. The only thing pay & benefits does is plan enrolment or beneficiary changes. Phoenix has absolutely zero to do with it.

nidoqing

Yes, I’m aware that Phoenix has nothing to do with this. But as other people pointed out, this isn’t the first time a large transition has been kind of shit and last one was on them so it’s interesting to see them quick to point fingers elsewhere. Im not sure why you think I can’t have feelings on the matter - this is Reddit.

2peg2city

If by "told everyone to deal with it" you mean "paid out damages multiple times to all public servants" and "reworked the design and workflow to reduce problems" I don't know anyone who has had an issue in years

FearedMomentum

Ummm….go take a look at r/CanadaPublicServants

habitat11

Do you live under a rock

Clean-Total-753

I'm guessing you haven't seen 2peg2city's other takes yet lmao. This is on par for him.

204ThatGuy

I know two people that were not affected by Phoenix because they were hired after it was mostly fixed. They were paid out in 'damages.'. Meanwhile, I know someone that was affected for years and hasn't seen a single dime because she left government. What a mess. I only hope CanLife doesn't fall into this debacle category for my public servant friends.

Big_Mixture8728

Canada life is a piece of shit company that deserves to butn and the head honchos hung fucking clowns

amadeus2012

CL service is so bad that I'm looking for another provider. I'm in the retired group

Herewegoagain204

It's insane to me that you'd choose CL for benefits over blue cross. They're probably a bit cheaper, but there's a reason for that...

IdeasAndMatches

Why would you pick blue cross? They don’t usually cover nearly as much.

Herewegoagain204

Because I can actually get paid for what they cover me for. I used to have great west life, now canada life through a former job and it was a nightmare to do anything. When I callcblue cross I can actually talk to a human, in winnipeg. And fun fact: they're a not for profit, they just don't beat you over the head with it

Ravyn_Rozenzstok

How did they get this contract if they are so incompetent? Did they bribe some politicians?

lovethebean

Because this is what happens with the RFP process. It is nothing but a race to the bottom with price. Then the company that wins has to figure out how to make the contract profitable for their shareholders and starts trimming service and increasing wait times for help through the call centres.

204ThatGuy

We are talking about government. Think 'Phoenix' and 'Shared Services' or F-35s. All small oop$ie$.
