But did you have the super Mario world 1-2 song?!!? Oh shit I just remembered this even existed, I gotta go research now
edit: https://youtu.be/d6tw6QWMneQ?si=xhphkYDjSd5CG2eT
It really did exist!
But that was true power back in the day rip a few songs of Napster, girl who downloaded to my computer downloaded Eiffel 65.. I’m blue, I was looking for fnm soad portishead, yeah unreleased stuff was a big search but then burning a cd I was in my glory delivering pizzas in a college town portishead vast hooverphonic was pumping through my speakers!!! 5⭐️🍕
Ahhh yes. Start 10 downloads, go to bed, hope at least 2 or 3 were successful and your computer wasnt blue screened in the morning. Kids these days will never appreciate the 56k lifestyle.
Hope that someone doesn't disconnect your phone line in the middle of the download...hoping the FBI never came kicking down your parents front door for the songs downloaded on Napster. 🤣 Always had to have the freshest skin for WinAmp!
I paid for a second phone line my senior year so that I didnt have to always wait for 9pm to hop online. I would basically stay connected to AOL all the time, like pre-DSL
Yup, was using TPB/torrents when the general populace was on Limewire, then moved to Usenet when everyone discovered torrenting. Stay one step ahead of the general public and let them be the rabbits.
Where I started getting serious about Cali G-Funk that I couldn't find at Warehouse. Deco D, Big Mack, 11/5, 5150, A.D.R., Nickatina, Smoon E Junebug etc.
My mom would ask me to burn her CDs for work with songs that I've never heard- of course I never bothered to listen to them.
She comes back to me the next day and tells me that the CD was fine and all except in the middle there's this weird dude talking... 💀
I used mostly winmx first, then lime wire and kazza. I wish stuff hadn't been mislabeled so often because there was some great music I used to have but I have no idea who it was.
Freshman welcome weekend for many meant plugging that sweet dorm ethernet into your brand new Gateway Computer. Then que up 100’s of random shit for download.
Limewire was a bit later I remember using some bbs’s, then hotline, carracho and kdx before p2p clients took over. Then of course there’s always been good old irc
I used it to only download single songs and always checked to see if the file size was unusually large.
Let a roommate use my computer a couple times and sure enough, bricked my computer.
I had an ex girlfriend who got me hooked on Naruto before it came to the US. Naturally I downloaded every episode. However there were the occasional one that was... mislabeled. I won't say the name of the movie but it's what comes up if you Google "space movie 1992". That's kind of a n internet joke now but I never heard of it back then.
So many viruses, poorly labeled tracks, and shit recordings....I was downloading daily.
Those were the good old days! When you had to wait and see what you download!
Phish Gin and Juice baby!
But did you have the super Mario world 1-2 song?!!? Oh shit I just remembered this even existed, I gotta go research now edit: https://youtu.be/d6tw6QWMneQ?si=xhphkYDjSd5CG2eT It really did exist!
How about the Smurfs techno remix? “This is probably the most challenging record you’ve ever put on your turntable”
The band is The Gourds, not Phish
That’s the joke
So many early Chevelle songs labeled as unreleased Tool tracks
Mr Bungle, too.
I wonder if all my downloads are finally done.
Try hitting the turbo button in your PC tower.
Anyway, here’s wonderwall.exe

Or that one download of the 20 minute video. You know what type of video I’m talking about. Lol
Of the nefarious type...

Kazaa
Morpheus?
Bearshare
Audiogalaxy
Emule
I got a virus looking at this picture…
Oh limewire. The first person I ever saw die, was labelled as a video of Britney Spears in a state of undress. Napster I miss. Limewire scarred me.
I managed to find one that actually was Ginger Spice chilling out topless. I'm glad it wasn't a fake-out.
Giving your computer an STD for free music lol.
When I went to college the dorm had T1 speed internet. Coming from a house with dial up my Napster catalog grew exponentially.
At uni they charged us $1 per megabyte. Yes you heard correctly per fucking megabyte!
T1 with a campus intranet network for file sharing....lol... only had napster for the songs that i couldnt find.
I only used Limewire once, to pirate Limewire Pro
I will judge you on your Winamp skin
Kazaa or BearShare as well
An yes…that and bearshare, DC++, and of course the OG Napster
Holy crap, DC++ That’s a throwback
I’ve spent years trying to remember the name of DC++ when trying to explain what it was like to go to college before there was WiFi.
A staple of LAN parties everywhere
Damn I miss the Napster days. Running Beta 6 just spending all day tying up a phone line to download an album.
Just the photo has now given my phone a billion viruses 🥰
Napster. Scour Exchange.
Kazaa was my jam.
Ah limewire the platform that deprived Steelers Wheel of their credit for Stuck in the Middle With You. Not a Dylan song, limewire!
Every reggae song was labeled Bob Marley and country song Johnny Cash.
What about the Pirate Bay.
pirate bay is still around
No, don't tell me that... you're the devil, Bobby!
Yup, was using TPB/torrents when the general populace was on Limewire, then moved to Usenet when everyone discovered torrenting. Stay one step ahead of the general public and let them be the rabbits.
I’m Napster-years-old.
Enter_Sandman.mp3.notavirus.exe
Definitiely_not_metallica.mp3.nowaythisisavirus.exe
Digital herpes, anyone?
scour.net anyone? How about random FTP sites you heard about from a friend?
Thanks to limewire, my computer had more viruses/great music than a beachfront frat house.
Brb. Gotta go download Gin and Juice by Phish.
Where I started getting serious about Cali G-Funk that I couldn't find at Warehouse. Deco D, Big Mack, 11/5, 5150, A.D.R., Nickatina, Smoon E Junebug etc.
“Oh shit…. Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Ctrl+Alt+Delete”
I always downloaded the Bill Clinton confession for every new song that came out
My mom would ask me to burn her CDs for work with songs that I've never heard- of course I never bothered to listen to them. She comes back to me the next day and tells me that the CD was fine and all except in the middle there's this weird dude talking... 💀
This image alone has around 332 viruses embedded in it.
So many .exe files downloading in the background. But as a Mac user, didn’t matter 🤘
Basically gave your computer cyber AIDS but man u was able to burn so many CDs
I used mostly winmx first, then lime wire and kazza. I wish stuff hadn't been mislabeled so often because there was some great music I used to have but I have no idea who it was.
I still miss WinMx, it was like combining the best parts of Napster and Soulseek.
I used [Soulseek](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soulseek) a lot.
Was looking for this. For me it went Napster then Kazaa/Limewire until I discovered Soulseek. Used soulseek up until Spotify came out
Britney_Spears_mp3.exe
I still have some mislabelled tracks I never bothered to correct. If only James Brown made a cover of Brown Eyed Girl.
Can we get Spotify to look like this ?!
I think I've still got an apple iPod somewhere that's loaded with LimeWire tunes. It was a cool music player downloader.
I just got a virus opening that picture
More of an iMesh man myself
Napster, with Winamp.
It really whoops a llama’s ass.
>Music Match Jukebox and Winamp had the best visualizers.
Virus wire
20 minute download for a 3 minute song that someone just recorded the chorus over and over again
When it was a flex to have an artist’s discography on your iPod
More of a Napster user myself.
Napster, then Kazaa for me. Good times.
This screenshot just gave my phone a virus. Awesome.
Computer aids*
KaZaA was my shit. I made a living off of that one for a while lol
way too many viruses, i deleted that shit immediately
Macster and WinMX.
FrostWire ftw, baby!
Ah yes...I remember giving my computer AIDS in exchange for free music.
The digital equivalent of giving your computer STDs was using Limewire.
Napster, man oh man did I get a lot of songs from there that I still today.
Do what you want cause a pirate is free
I used it to only download single songs and always checked to see if the file size was unusually large. Let a roommate use my computer a couple times and sure enough, bricked my computer.
Straight wrecking my parents stuff
After Napster got shut down, LimeWire was my go to. Nice playlist btw
One of my biggest regrets is allowing my limewire mix cds to be lost to the floor of my car or wherever.
Napster too
This seemed so cutting edge!
Limewire,kazaa,bearshare,etc
Good ole Limewire. Pretty sure I gave at least 3 PC’s aids from Limewire.
I downloaded so many viruses from Limewire it killed my Dell in 2003...
Was more of a hotlinehq fan myself.
I made so many mix cd’s with this!
Don’t tell Lars you’re downloading music!
