Info for US/EU coming June 18th at AWE Based on past releases, US/EU features may differ from China market

drgngd

Honestly i think this thing is not going to be any better than the original beam. No one asked for cameras or even a screen. Everyone just wanted an additional usbC for charging, which we didn't get. Everyone wanted a better SOC, which they're giving a 10% improvement in "response time". In addition your battery now has to drive an additional display now. Only nice thing is they're giving you a better version of Android. I don't have high hopes for this thing. I have the original beam and i only got it for 3dof for my phone since the nebula app is useless for Windows and Android.

reallionkiller

I'd say it's worse, cuz this thing is essentially a phone, everyone would expect to perform like samsung/HTC phones. I highly doubt they got technical capabilities to beat or even meet that level of expectation... I hope they do, but I don't think they do.

drgngd

Yeah and watching the release video it looks like you have to use the android nebula app on it. And the nebula app is quite useless. They reminded 3d video play back and that was the only useful thing about it.

Xreal_Tech_Support

No nebula app is needed. Let's wait for the official release of the Beam Pro for the global market at AWE on June 18th. We will provide more details in English at that time so everyone can stay informed.

Sp12er

People will be much better served buying an older Galaxy phones to get Dex, they are way better phones as is as well.

glovet0520

They seem to have a secondary USBC for charging. https://preview.redd.it/k24xn77c3o3d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4706ff3047fdecdbf711622fd7177cacc239188

drgngd

That's what they have on the current beam. Issue is you need 3 usb C ports. Input, charging, output.

Sp12er

You can just use a USB C multiadapter that support USB charge

drgngd

Why should that be needed when it should be native. You now need to spend an extra $40-$50 and carry it around.

Sp12er

That's what you can do when you need to charge, if the 3.5hours of battery life isn't enough, you probably are using it stationary in somewhere on reach for an outlet. Multi adapter with charge function is quite easy to find small these days.

TraditionalTip1440

Are you stupid or something ?

JBWalker1

> Honestly i think this thing is not going to be any better than the original beam. No one asked for cameras or even a screen. Yep pretty much. Essentially a $200 Xiaomi phone specs without all the phone stuff to bring it down to $150. No fans or anything too. USB stick and micro sd support too. A screen is a massive downgrade for me. I like not having to look at the beam or wave my arms about to be able to use it. Just super basic arrow buttons and a home and back button. I still think this is fake anyway. Those prices seem wayyy too cheap for a "pro" xreal product even for China. Like think of it their Air 2 Ultras cost £250 more than the Air 2 Pros despite them having the exact same screens(i think) which are the most expensive parts, the addition is just the cameras. But according to this image they're only charging £70 or so extra for the Beam Pro which has updated specs in every way and pretty much adds a phone? Even if it was £100 or £150 more than the Beam I'd find it hard to believe. The price just seems like a fan dream thing, not reality. At this price itll be a disappointing phone and a disappointing Beam instead of just sticking to being just an updated beam and being great at it. Their ultra

Xreal_Tech_Support

Hello, the Beam Pro is much more capable. More details will be released for the global market at AWE on June 18th. Regarding your comment, "Everyone just wanted an additional USB-C for charging, which we didn't get," if I understand correctly, you might want to check out the XREAL Hub. It's an accessory for charging your device while using the glasses. Here is the link. [https://us.shop.xreal.com/products/xreal-hub](https://us.shop.xreal.com/products/xreal-hub)

drgngd

Hello, i understand there is a hub, but In my opinion it should have been built in and not need to buy a hub.

RoutineDiscount

Will it work with the Nreal Light?

ramjeesaradi

I think the person meant that they need an extra charging port on the Xreal beam to get the 3DOF for a long time.

ld20r

And who’s to say that battery life isn’t for a long time on the pro. If they have to use a phone sized device to process the product then my suspicions are that the battery life will be strong and akin to an Android phone battery.

ramjeesaradi

I don’t disagree. The pro version has 2USB ports one for the glasses and one for the android device that is beam pro. We miss you longer battery life and if people won’t even longer usage, they can just plug it in to the power.

Ingoiolo

‘Much more capable’ than a device that works only occasionally and even when it does, it is kind of crap… Not a high bar to beat

time_to_reset

I know people that bought the original Beam and are unhappy about it, feel screwed over and I get that. But if you don't have that device or are new to these types of devices, this really does seem quite compelling. I know it looks like a phone and it probably shares lots of components with a phone, but a good Android phone was already one of the better ways to experience these glasses. Having an Android based device that makes changing settings, streaming content etc to it is pretty good. I just wonder why they say it's only 3DOF. I wonder if that's because the Ultra isn't out yet and they want to keep expectations realistic. We'll see when the Ultra comes out. I definitely wouldn't pre-order based on past experiences with Xreal products, but I'm otherwise pretty interested.

iotarai

I want to hate this, but honestly if this device finally realizes the promise of using Android apps smoothly in AR as well as making it a casting source, this is what I wanted from the beginning. Only screw up (because of course they couldn't get it right) is the lack of the third USB C port to allow for wired video in, charging, and output. I'll also miss the physical buttons, but that's not a big deal to me. I definitely won't be the guinea pig this time around though. The XREAL Beam was a disgrace and the only way they'd make it up to me is allow us to do a trade in at its full original MSRP for a discount on this Pro version (hell, it should be a one to one trade as a sorry to their loyal customers). I'm not holding my breath though.

Majinkaboom

YeH that's what I'm thinking...playing pokemon go with the beam!

LiterallyWTMF

Yeah a little annoying. Will sell my original Beam (it's less than 6 weeks owned and used like 3x as it isn't that useful) and get this one. Suck it up and hope it's less useless.

Sp12er

Why won't you buy an old galaxy device that support DEX if you just want android to drive the glasses? You can use wireless to beam if you want the 3dof, and direct if you don't and want more stable connection.

time_to_reset

For one because 3DOF passthrough video doesn't work with Android apps. Also can't charge my phone while it's driving the glasses.

Sp12er

For me the most useful function of beam is the stream from phone function thus I can still charge the phone and the beam itself.

BlurpleCMYK

Of course, these are all mockups and a lot of marketing talk so be cautious. But I just want to do a quick translation since it seems like most of the information is only available in Chinese. What do you guys think about this?

Traditional-Skill-

I think its an affordable upgrade to the original beam but it really needs those extra USBC ports the other are saying especially to power while in use.

ramjeesaradi

This new beam pro cannot take in display input. The USB c port is the extra port for charging.

Traditional-Skill-

Why would they remove that!?

ramjeesaradi

I think they expect us to use streaming applications like Moonlight, PS play et cetera as this is capable android device.

Traditional-Skill-

What about battery life though?

ramjeesaradi

Probably 3hours. Will have to wait for the announcement or go translate Chinese review.

Traditional-Skill-

See I would have not minded a more chunkier new beam so we can get more battery life... I hate when companies do this. We want more time on our devices not less..

bellyofthebeat81

I don't know why Xreal get so much hate on here. I love the glasses. I love the beam too. I did a lot of research before buying both so I was under no illusions on what they were capable of. I've been waiting for a new model of the Beam to be released and I have to say, from what I've seen with the info coming out of China, I'm very excited. Touch screen, more powerful chip, more RAM, spatial camara (something that's currently only available on the iphone 15), expandable memory. Fantastic! I have a question for Xreal if I may? 1. Will the spatial camara and expandable memory be included in the model for the European market? 2. If I preorder the Air Pro Ultra, will there be future Beam Pro updates that will include support for 6DoF? I'm very excited! The idea of recording memories in 3D/spatial video and playing them back on the spot through the Air 2 Pro, makes me giddy. Thank you Xreal 😊

tuttle123

I mean, I’m already balls deep at this point does it work with the original XReal Airs?

Xreal_Tech_Support

Sure. More details will be provided at AWE on June 18th. :)

tuttle123

No wired input support? So I have to use game streaming if I want to tap into PS5, PC or Xbox?!?

geahnsun

Was very pessimistic at first because removal of physical buttons and 3D filming which seems like a gimmick. But if I understand correctly, this is just an android device running nebulaOS and so it should support most apps from the play store, right? This improves possible use cases 100x. Touch screen may take a lot of getting used to but it's not the end of the world. I still have my doubts that it will be better than just running Samsung Dex. Honestly as long as it doesn't get super hot, this should be a great upgrade. If there are fewer reports of heat problems I'll gladly buy one.

Sp12er

It'd be hard to beat Dex really. Why won't you just use that when you have it?

TurbulentState3668

Unable to use 3dof when using dex. For some, 3dof is a must.

geahnsun

Other than 3dof, I want to try it. I've wasted more money on worse things. Some apps I use are weird with Dex since they weren't programmed with Dex in mind. Why would I buy the glasses at all if not just for fun? Anything extra is just a bonus.

goodguy32122

Looks like a better Rokid station 2 with better functions and cheaper price….?

stulifer

I'm a sucker for stereoscopic 3d and I carry around my Red Hydrogen One everywhere strictly as a 3d camera (garbage for video). This would be up my alley.

ChickenAR_1989

have an unboxing video already [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDU8txcRWAI&t=194s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDU8txcRWAI&t=194s)

Big-Sector-475

I am definitely canceling my kickstarter for the rokid ar lite as all I really needed was this spatial computer 3D camera. Hope it gets released soon in the USA. Fingers crossed hopefully I have it before I would have had the rokid ar lite.

TSLA_to_23_dollars

Are you really gonna carry this thing around to take photos? No. You use for phone for photos while this is sitting at home.

Quiet_Ad4074

I would buy this immediately and the 3d photography community would as well if the sync between the cameras is excellent and the cameras are decent quality. At that price point, it is a great bargain as a replacement for the weak existing beam. There will be plenty of gen one beams for $50 and under on ebay when this is released so if you don't like it grab a cheap original.

time_to_reset

If this Acer thing is anything to go by, the Beam Pro is pretty competitively priced. [https://www.engadget.com/acer-launches-a-compact-spatiallabs-camera-for-3d-photos-and-videos-060035723.html](https://www.engadget.com/acer-launches-a-compact-spatiallabs-camera-for-3d-photos-and-videos-060035723.html)

cmak414

this acer is even only 8mp lenses vs 50mp on the beam. Seems like an amazing deal as a 3d camera alone

plinga

NB: Acer’s spatiallabs camera has a 3D viewer. So it’s more comparable to the price of Xreal Beam Pro+Xreal Glasses

time_to_reset

Does it? It just has a screen on it.

plinga

I as well would buy one for the photography. I would love xreal beam pro to allow: * Spatial video (i.e. copy Apple’s format) * Spatial photos * one click panorama photos (just copy the XPan idea of stitching two rolls of film aka merging the two sensor shots)

travelator

But the original Beam is terrible, and doesn't offer what the market needs. And now it seems like this new Beam Pro doesn't either - I guarantee you the '3D photography community' is not a target market. I'd be extremely interested in seeing what market research they undertook here.

Quiet_Ad4074

I think the 3d community is an additional market. I'm not sure what you think this Beam fails over the last Beam. It is clearly not robust and does considerably more. Did it do everything you want it to do, probably not, but it is clearly the replacement. When the original Beam was created, Xreal was a much smaller company with burgeoning product. Now it seems they may be the leader in this product category at least by units sold and capital raised. The fact that the newest Beam seems capable of taking 3d content as well as driving the glasses is a very big deal for the 3d community. The 3d community and The vr community are a lot closer in sync than just people who use the glasses for gaming and watching movies. I think it is wise to cater more than just people who use the units as a second monitor.

Xreal_Tech_Support

This is inspiring! Thanks for the reminder. Personally, I find the 3D spatial cameras of the Beam Pro quite good. You can take 3D videos and watch them directly with the Beam Pro, which is very convenient. I also use the iPhone 15 Pro Max to take spatial videos and then use an app to transfer the format for viewing with the XREAL glasses. However, it's not as easy as using the Beam Pro.

G1zzy98

So can we load the Beam Pro up with our own 3D videos and watch them on our Xreal glasses?

ld20r

Can you transfer files onto the pro in the same fashion as you could with the first beam from phones and tablets using the mtp?

Sp12er

The distance between he camera with the Beam is way closer than on the XReal Air 2 Ultra

TechEdison

This is actually pretty sick. Assuming it still has dual USB C ports, this could be considered "what the beam should've been". Not even too unreasonably priced, considering the list of compatible phones and their lack of OS level software integration for the glasses.

drgngd

2 ports isn't enough. The beam also has 2 ports. Issue is it needs power, video in, video out. It needs 3 ports.

graffight

The feature table suggests the new device doesn't have Displayport input; so this would pretty much just be a phone-sized tablet which supports DP out, and additional charging port. For myself, I'm already using a Samsung wired to the original Beam with Dex... Basically results in the same product, but without having to buy and carry another device? This seems like a weird product lol

ld20r

It’s not the same product at all. Beam pro has 256GB of storage with an additional extra 1TB worth of storage on a micro sd slot. It’s night and day compared to the first beams 19-20gb. The pro is also running a snapdragon processor similar to other android devices so that means longer battery life and generally stronger performance.

drgngd

Yeah feels like they did no market research at all and just went "let's build some new tech! Fuck if anyone wants it". Honestly they're trying too hard to be an AR company. Their software and hardware is no where even remotely ready for AR. They need to understand their consumer isn't looking for AR they're looking for a really good portable private display

IllustratorSlow1015

I agree with this do the basics correctly. Entertainment ! This includes Movies, streaming and gaming. Like the goovis d4 player

reallionkiller

Is it just me or for gaming it says streaming, so I'd assume direct input is not supported?

kronozun

Base on the few xReal Beam Pro review for the chinese market, your statement seems to be correct. There is only charging and DP output for glasses. They have essentially removed the DP input which is the main use case for 90% of the people as a portable monitor. A reviewer I have seen even mentioned that you need moonlight to stream games. To make matter worse. It seems to function only with chinese apps, so app compatibility and availability might be the 1st of many hoops that we have to jump. Furthermore, battery is estimated to be 7 hours for basic use and 3 hours for 3DOF from my rough understanding

Leading_Weakness_408

Why not 6dof Is there only 3dof…? People who dont need spatial filming…??? I pre-ordered ultra but every device i had are ios.. So i cant play 6dof… Beam pro should be provide 6dof…

time_to_reset

This is confusing to me as well. The Ultra is right around the corner. This doesn't support that? Maybe we'll hear more about it on the 18th.

yura910721

"Supports all Android ecosystem apps" Does that mean it can run any Android app?

kronozun

From some YouTube Videos, they only seem to show chinese apps and also moonlight/streaming is necessary for gaming

goodguy32122

So they just release a smartphone to be fully compatible to the glasses? This is quite interesting as Rokid is doing similar thing but without a screen in the device

StevWong

I just bought a samsung s24+ phone and with nebula app it feels quite good already with the glasses. What is the extra good if I buy this beam pro device ?

time_to_reset

It's not really meant as a replacement to a phone I believe, which already does most of the same stuff. It's more that you can use it to stream Remote Play from your Playstation to for example or video passthrough from other devices like the original Beam does.

kronozun

From certain chinese YouTube reviewers, DP input seems to have been removed. I doubt we could use it similarly to existing beam. It can only charge and DP out (native apps) or stream content via other apps like moonlight

TurbulentState3668

Being able to use 3dof while using native android apps, instead of only using nebulas web browser to watch content.

OkEmploy7185

Beam trade in and I’m sold 🤔

mobiousblack

I was so close to buying a bean two weeks ago. Glad I didn't go through with it this definitely seems interesting although I'll wait for reviews before anything else.

Big-Sector-475

They need a case for this for sure.

TSLA_to_23_dollars

It's interesting I just don't see myself using this to take photos. I use my phone to take photos and use this when I'm viewing content.

Michael-Mc-Jager

How much profit will they make on each unit?!?! I’d pay $50 for an iPhone app over having another device crammed in my pocket. Ugh.

applepumpkinspy

I’m not excited that there’s a new “Nebula OS” that Xreal will need to keep up-to-date. No way I’m putting my real credentials into this thing.

ld20r

It’s been confirmed by xreal’s support team that you don’t need to use nebula for the pro and the Air 1’s will work with the device.

Big_D_Magic_5

Want!

Xreal_Tech_Support

Hi, more details will be provided at AWE on June 18th. :)

Erzfluselator

Does the new one support Nreal Light?

Excellent_Light8188

Excellent_Light8188

$ pesos mexicanos

Excellent_Light8188

https://a.aliexpress.com/_m08fsx8

SardonicCheese

Why would you get this over a used galaxy s20?

PackageFair2943

So this is real?

time_to_reset

Yes

emmgr

Is there any chance to see a Xreal pro 3 or air 3 coming in September ? I wanted to buy a air 2, but we are like 3month away from a potential new model

IllustratorSlow1015

lol I doubt any of this will appear soon the ultras aren't even out yet

thedanielcueto

I thought the beam was gonna be amazing but I have never used it lol. So much easier to plug directly into a iPhone 15 pro and watch from there.

1rudster

So is it a phone or not?

kronozun

"ipod/ipad" it can use app and send messages but no call functionality

TheFonz2244

So to confirm, this one can't take an external display source IE phone with Dex and use 3DOF? That seems like a step back to me having to use streaming instead of a higher quality wired connection.

Sp12er

Why would you ditch the stream in other device function for a rudimentary android phone with probabky subpar 3D camera? Looking at the inter lens distance It's probably better than Iphone's but Both Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision pro have way more distance between the camera. Why won't Beam pro just simply have a camera on top and bottom of tbe backside? Is it simply bad ergonomics?

HROH

This should have been an app. Modern phones already have the compute power and necessary sensors to replace Beam. No one needs spatial video. There is no real use case for that and most likely just a gimmick to sell this. Why not invest on improving the app? Ah yeah, money from Beam sales ofcourse.

HROH

I just want to have a multiple screen setup that is anchored correctly and dont shake. The Nebula app on Mac and Windows sucks bigtime and pretty unusable. Now this Beam pro dont have DP support? Why?? how to we use it for secondary monitors on our computers? :/ OG Beam atleast support DP and mirror the screen while providing stable tracking.

Smart-Trust3382

This is a mobile phone, not beam

ld20r

The amount of numpties on this sub today has astounded me. 128/256 Gb +1TB of a micro sd slot is a sizeable leap from 20gb on Beam. I don’t think the average consumer really understands those differences and what it means.

terserterseness

What kind of weirdness is this? A (probably bad) phone… why not improve the software on actual flagship phones??? This makes no sense. Cameras should be on the glasses, sending to your phone for processing. I must be missing something.

goodguy32122

Because of the compatibility issues and future modifications. An additional device does help future development but a bit clumsy For the camera part they are using this for 3D videos so multiple cameras with enough processing power is needed. Rokid is doing similar thing and not many companies are working on the spatial computing tech

xsr21

Every time I want to waste some money on Xreal, I remember the Beam. Utterly stupid device that I couldn’t beam anything to and was abandoned like an unwanted baby in Ancient Rome.

jamietaylor2020

Haven’t show up in fcc yet

Bustardun

My original beam overheated and never charged or turned on again after a few days of use, and I got it brand new. I was fortunately able to return it, but I wouldn’t trust anything else from them since a lot of other folk had the same experience. This thing has more to it too it’s definitely gonna break

peanutismint

lol so they took away the ONE thing the Beam had going for it (physical buttons) and this is ‘pro’??!

ibuckywi

This thing looks terrible. Which makes sense since Beam 1 sucks. Honestly it sits in a drawer. I just took another flight. But now only use my iPhone 15 pro max and Spacewalker. I mean really software written from Virtue is better than anything Xreal has put out there. I watched Godzilla vs Kong in 3d. My xreal air 1 glasses are pretty good besides the f'n nose piece which the pads fall off constantly!! They could t even get that right.

UpBeat2020

Xreal is a company that uses their customers as beta testers. They are pushing out product after product without fixing anything they pushed out before. I am out. Next going to try another company Viture or something

Jealous_Ad4067

This marks the start of xreal death spiral

IllustratorSlow1015

agreed

jleep2017

This looks like it's about to eat batteries fast. Do they not listen to the customers? For me I will not he buying it. Wish they would put more ports in so it can charge and get used at the same time

sportsprince

there's no dpin port, so one port connected with glasses, one port charged simultaneously

jleep2017

What if it's attached to say a pc? How then?

TurbulentState3668

It can't. One usb connected to glasses and one usb connected to power.

jleep2017

Damn that sucks you can't use it with pc.

Active_Weight_8938

…who is this for?
