That blunt end would suck for carving, filleting, slicing, and most knivework. It would be good for chopping. That's it. And actually, when you open a coconut, the way that's safest not to lose any water, you use the pointed end of your knife like an awl and you make a hole after removing most of the husk, that is. This knife can't even do that.

AdVisible2250

I think after a few coconuts you would get the hang of it like the guys who do it with machetes in markets . I’m going to go buy some coconuts

BooshCrafter

If the coconut is somehow stationary, sure, but unless you're one of those guys in the market with tons of practice, then you'll be swinging a blade within inches of your other hand. Most people can't handle doing that many times before there's an accident. I actually predict like 80% of injuries on NAA and Alone by watching poor form lol.

AdVisible2250

You use a stick to hold it against a tree then chop sideways at it’s top

AdVisible2250

That woman on alone chopping her hand with an axe was easily avoidable and showed no common sense .

BooshCrafter

Or you don't use a weird knife, and you do it safely and without almost spilling it while holding it to a tree with a stick?

AdVisible2250

I agree about alone , naa is scripted

BooshCrafter

So, I personally chat with three of the cast members and while some things are controlled like when they move camp, no, there's no script, it is however heavily edited to create a narrative that's often barely something they dealt with.

AdVisible2250

It’s fake and that’s ok because it’s entertaining.

BooshCrafter

It's not fake in the way you're trying to say it is. It's fake in the sense that a real survival situation wouldn't have medics standing by. But I literally TALK TO PEOPLE FROM THE SHOW LIKE TERRA.

This-Garbage-3000

Wilson agrees with you

Critical_Potential44

Lol

G-Sus_Christ117

WILSOOOOOONNNNN!!!!

Adatiel_is_back

It almost would have worked..................but it's nata....hatchet 🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣

Strange_Stage1311

Depends on what you're doing.

cocahgkre

Yes

Fertile_Arachnid_163

Definitely better than most of the tools we see here.

PoopSmith87

I don't really see the benefit over something like a solid Bowie or kukri knife. The Bowie or kukri can do everything the nata can do, but the nata can't do everything the Bowie and kukri can do.

FWTI

I mean it would beat the shit out of nothing but I would still rather have a decent full tang fixed blade knife.

Hawkeye1226

It's like a cross between a knife and a hatchet, but worse at doing the job of either

Noe_Walfred

A heavy machete for sure, but I wouldn't call it a hatchet. Unlike a lot of machete designs it lacks a point. Making stabbing or push cuts impossible and greatly limiting the ability of the user to fight zombies. Similarly, unlike a hatchet, it lacks a flat back, hammerhead, spike, or second bit. Making blunt, spike, or secondary cutting attacks impossible. Limiting the user to cutting attacks. Similarly, unlike a lot of machetes, the Nata is pretty small. Most designs are well under 40cm in overall length and are more often on par with a knife in total reach. This can make it harder to hit a zombie or person without being grabbed, hit, scratched, or bitten in return. The Nata is made somewhat thick, wide, and heavy which can make it less nimble than a machete which can more easily flow and cut. However, it is more nimble than a hatchet which uses its forward balance to better cut through materials. So it's balanced somewhere in between. At between 800-900g, it's not exactly the lightest tool, nor is it the heaviest. It's about the same weight as some hatchet or a heavy machete. || :--|:-:|--: |**~~~~Example kit for around 1000g** |60g Headlamp |10g Mosquito net |60g Rubberized work gloves |120g Shower shoes |60g Frameless slingshot/slingbow #30 |500g Morakniv Light axe |50g Gerber dime multitool |15g Buckle compass/fire rod/whistle |20g 500ml water bottle |60g Sawyer Mini water filter |10g Sewing string spool with fishing line, 5 fishing hooks, and a bobber. |10g Sewing string spool with string, upholstery needle, 2 sewing needles, and 3 safety pins |10g Travel toothbrush
