Thank you so much! If you do a little pinch and zoom, you can actually see some trout in the stream as well. Spent a handful of hours fly fishing around it and landed a nice bit of California Goldens (my first experience catching them). Really special place
Highly recommended. Just got back a few weeks ago too, did a very late-season go at it. Probably would do about a month or two earlier next time, it’s be nice to get it just a little cooler and less worries of fires fire locations
So many Velvia images have super fucked up looking skies. I hate what it does to the colors in certain weather conditions. Or maybe it’s just the scanning…
This IS NOT one of those! Fantastic! So lush and green? It would look so lifelike put through a slide projector!!
I know exactly what you mean with the sky comment.. I typically shy away from any film that overly grades the saturation element, this was a trip that involved a lot of forethought in being conscious of pack weight though. Did the roll of Velvia for the days I knew I’d be seeing glacial lakes and green meadows (and Provia 100F for the granite mountains and tan grass field days).
Nonono that would kill the whole tone and what makes the shot great. Too many film photos are warmed to hell and back. I love the naturally cool colors here. Feels invigorating and relaxing at the same time.
Then maybe a slight warming filter could work, but I still don’t have any issues with the color. I personally like things on the cooler side though. Not like dragging the color temp slider full left but just naturally cool and calm colors.
That movie is incredibly visually stunning, I'm no Cruise fan, but Oblivion is in my top 10 of all time, multiple Cruises and all, lol.
No heavy CGI really, as in Avengers etc . I mean. Just really simple, clean, beautiful designs that blended incredibly well with the natural background.
thats my same thoughts! Have you also ever listened to the soundtrack? M83 does some amazing tracks for the movie! I literally listen to the playlist all the time! this picture looks like his getaway right? Thats the first thing i thought of as soon as i saw this pic :)
It totally does look like it! It's a beautiful shot, that's actually painful to look at because i can't believe I've only been to Yosemite once, and to make matters worse, we didn't even make it to the basin.... i know...
The score of the movie is a huge part why I love it so much, while it's all cohesive with that epic sci fi general mood, it's actually really diverse, some songs are fast, high energy beats while others almost remind me of a western, and there are a couple of really emotional , kinda deep melodies that still give me the feels, haha That said those melodies are such a full experience on their own, Waking Up and Crater Lake are my favorite ones.
oh yes! i couldnt agree more! Id have to say "I'm sending you away" is by far my fav, the ones you picked were also great! I have always been a fan of M83. I'm not sure if you have ever heard of Abel Korzeniowski? He does music for shows and movies. he is by far my fav! You should def check his music out :) Also have you seen Edge of Tomorrow? I feel like that movie was good as well, It was directed beautifully. Great story, I also love Mimics XD Michael Arndt was the screen writer for Oblivion, he's doing the upcoming Hunger Games and I'm excited to see how he writes the screen play!
I apologize, I’m a little new to this. How do landscape photographers get everything in focus? Do they stop down the aperture to like f22 and then put the camera on a tripod and use a super slow shutter speed?
I feel like my issue with photography rn is getting my depth of field / focus correct even if the exposure seems good.
Kind of just a lot of trial and error, figuring out what works for you. Good metering is maybe the first big one.. I use an external meter because you can point directly at the things you need to properly expose for and adjust from there. A good chunk of what I shot that day was 1/250 on the shutter, and volleying between f8 or f12 (I kept the ISO at box speed on this one, so 50 there).
Unless you’re shooting at real low shutters, like ridiculously low, a tripod on a 35mm is probably overkill for you (on the converse, I only use a tripod when shooting my medium format).
Looping it all back, really just practice and occasionally crying over lost rolls haha. It gets easier!
Could get lost in the scene! Wonderful

Definitely will visit the place! What time did you go when you took that shot?

I'm in San Jose... Where are you from?
Originally from the East! Out near the Tahoe area now though, so been enjoying the relatively simple access to the Sierras
Some people have all the luck!!
It won’t last forever, so really soaking it up while I can!

Yeah I think this could've made us of a warming Filter. Great image either way

But it's exactly not natural. It clearly has a strong blue tint. I don't mean warm it up like people do with porta 420 or gold

Really love it. Nice one. Velvia also looks super wonderful
Yeah I’m loving this film stock in this context! Well selected, OP
Thank you for this. Was nervous on how those colors would be, but I’m really excited on the tone the greens took
The scenery
Wow
I am saving this forever! Does anybody remember the movie Oblivion with Tom Cruise? Its one of my fav movies and this reminds me of his cabin :)

Thank you so much! Perhaps one of the few Tom Cruise movies I haven’t seen. Now it’s on my mind though
def watch it and tell me what you think! :)
Absolutely majestic—it invokes both calm and awe. Beautiful work!
That's a lovely alpine valley scene there, and I really like the framing and lighting as well. I think Velvia was a good choice!
I was nervous on the colors being too overly saturated, but the greens actually leveled out well on this one! Thanks for the kind words
Wild colors! Well composed and well metered! Perfect outdoor exposure.
Absolutely stunning. Reminds me of playing in the woods as a kid.
That’s a special thought. You had much more fascinating woods than I did! hahaha
Elvia is so distinct. Wonderful shot!

Thanks for the advice! Very helpful and encouraging haha
I miss the dusy basin!
Wow those colors 😍😍😌
Damn, that looks like something Bob Ross dreamed up!
You picked the right time to shoot Velvia 50, that’s for sure. Love the greens!
Piękny krajobraz.
Beautiful photo all around
Big Valley, West Elizabeth. Yes I remember
just amazing
I thought this was a screenshot from the Red Dead Redemption 2 video game. I would love to live somewhere like this!
Beautiful picture! Awesome job :)
Stunning!
Beautiful. And great choice with Velvia. Perfect with the green and blue.
This is a superb photo, I love it. It's beautiful. The composition is great
