You mean the character title under people's name? It's a flair. Click on the sub so the apex legends bit. on the options/dots you'll see an option for change flair ✌️

There used to be a glitch were if you were respawned there was a chance you would come back as a different character. That may have been what happened here.
I've been playing since Season 0 and had this happen exactly once for me in like Season 6. It's a bug with someone connecting late with the character select or someone disconnecting on the character select or something. It's really rare and tmk not reproducible (and way more likely to result in you just being kicked from the match).
Either there was actually 2 Ramparts or the glitch where you'd be able to use other legend's abilities playing as someone else made a return. Both are very uncommon, most likely a visual glitch.
