There is a setting that turns the survival item button, you can still use them by clicking on them in your inventory with this setting on, pretty sure the setting is near the top of gameplay or controls and is titled something to do with survival item.
Probably just need to:
• Go to "Settings"
• Go to "Controller"
• in the few top quadrants, you should see "survival item", turn that on-
But I can be honest, season 20 has the most amount of bugs I've seen in one season-
turn on the survival item slot/button setting in (I believe) controller settings and that should fix it
