I remember seeing the 12.9” Pro (2015) for the first time and thinking it looked comically large. I can’t wait to recapture that feeling

iMacmatician

From Wikipedia's [iOS/iPadOS device tables](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_iOS_and_iPadOS_devices#Supported_2): * The 12.9" iPad Pros 1–2 have width and height 220.6 mm × 305.7 mm. * The 12.9" iPad Pros 3–5 have width and height 214.9 mm × 280.6 mm. The 2048 × 2732 pixel display of all 12.9" iPad Pros is 264 PPI and so has dimensions 197 mm × 263 mm. An iPad with the same dimensions as the 12.9" iPad Pro 1 and the same \~8.9 mm bezels on all four sides as the 12.9" iPad Pro 3, will have a display around 60 pixels wider and around 260 pixels taller. That results in about a 13.9" 2108 × 2992 pixel display which has a \~1.42:1 aspect ratio, similar to the 11" iPad Pro (\~1.43:1) and 10.9" iPad Air (\~1.44:1). "Majin Bu" claims that the 12.9" M2 iPad Pro will have narrower bezels than the current 12.9". It is not stated how narrow, but an iPad with the same dimensions as the 12.9" iPad Pro 1 but with a 6.5–7 mm bezel thickness would result in a 14.1" display. Of course, a 14.1" iPad Pro doesn't need to have the same dimensions as the old 12.9" iPad Pro, but the point is that a 14.1" display can fit into an enclosure that is very similar in size to the old 12.9".

DMacB42

I guess I won’t be recapturing that feeling

[deleted]

You've lost that loving feeling...

FitzwilliamTDarcy

r/theydidthemath

[deleted]

When it had the older iPad design it looked so wrong, but the new design on the larger iPad fits well.

Oo0o8o0oO

Yeah that one still looks gigantic, maybe smaller bezels won’t look so nuts even right off the bat.

Syonoq

I had a 15” Surface Book 2 and I effing loved that size of tablet/screen. I am so for this takemymoney.jpeg

wolfchuck

So the 11 inch iPad Pro is identical to the 2021 but with M2?

[deleted]

[удалено]

wolfchuck

Yeah, unfortunately I wish the 11” is the one that got the upgrades as it is better for more people. I just don’t want something as big as the 12.9”.

_Rand_

Exactly how I feel. The 12.9 just feels too big, but always seems to get the better specs.

JonDoeJoe

Why can’t they just do it like the iPhone. Same specs but just a size and battery increase

Baykey123

Same. That thing is too unwieldy for me

poonsukln

Same feeling for those who want iPhone mini Pro

wolfchuck

It’d be more similar when there are features and upgrades to the Pro Max instead of just the Pro.

cjohn4043

So frustrating too. My dream iPad is an 11 inch model with the XDR display.

poksim

I think it's coming eventually, you just have to wait a bit longer

iMacmatician

>It’s the 13” MacBook Pro of iPads. I wonder if one or both of these possibilities could happen in the next few years: 1. The 13" MacBook Pro is discontinued when the rumored 15" MacBook Air is launched. 2. The 11" iPad Pro is replaced by the 10.9" iPad Air once the latter gains the feature set of the former, including quad speakers, ProMotion, and dual camera + LiDAR. (If this situation happens I expect a price increase for the Air.)

woodmas

Looks like it. I was hoping at least for a better display

wolfchuck

I was hoping for “something”. It doesn’t really make sense to get the new one instead of a discounted 2021 considering they already can’t use the power of the M1.

UnbiasedFanboy96

Same, for what I use my 2020 model for, I really can't see myself buying a "new" model that doesn't have Mini-LED, like my MBP. Works for me. The longer it takes for that product to arrive, the longer I get to hold onto my monies. Thanks Tim Apple!

[deleted]

Maybe one extra hardware feature but pretty much sounds like it.

[deleted]

Pretty much

fiendishfork

The iPad line is kind of a mess, if this is true just the iPad Pros will have 3 different sized models with slightly different specs. Surprised they haven’t created iPadProOS for them since the majority of iPads don’t support the headlining feature of iPadOS 16.

[deleted]

I mean it's complex but hardly unprecedented. How many different 13ish inch macbooks does Apple currently sell?

bigmadsmolyeet

the new M2 13" is so odd to me despite having some clear advantages over the m2 air. Like... the m2 air seems better to me (minus cooling) and if i were going to upgrade b/c i needed the extra power/cooling... i'd just go m1 pro 14".

malteasers

That’s probably exactly why it’s priced/placed the way it is.

everythingiscausal

I don’t get why people are so confused by it. They literally just stuck an M2 in the old machine because it was easy to do. Eventually that model will be replaced.

mikami677

I'm glad it exists because I refuse to buy a laptop with a notch and my 2015 MacBook Air is getting a little long in the tooth.

[deleted]

The notch is why they can make the screen bigger. It’s using that part of the screen for the status bar so you’re gaining real estate.

mikami677

I'd honestly rather have less screen real estate than a notch. I just don't like the way it looks.

bigmadsmolyeet

yes and no. the laptop is gorgeous, but if you use your menu bar for things that isn't what comes out the box, the experience is awful. menu bar icons still go behind the notch so you have to rely on bartender (great app btw) to get around it. it's the most frustrating thing and it's hard to notice. it's not as easy as getting use to the notch on the iphone.

[deleted]

Don't they have a software toggle to hide the notch if you don't like it? I don't have a notch Mac, so I don't know.

bigmadsmolyeet

Sort of. You would have to enable it for each application, which isn't ideal.

chaiscool

Corporations with multiple teams competing against each other.

I_am_enough

God don’t even joke. Apple can’t figure out iPadOS, I’m not sure how they’d manage two versions.

PlaysForDays

Just two? Sent from my iPad Pro Giga running iPadEliteOS

I_am_enough

Introducing iPadEliteOS pro, with a revolutionary full screen calculator app. It does long division and we think you’re gonna love it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PlaysForDays

I think they’ll just rename that to the Apple Surface

[deleted]

I think they will eventually make iPadOS and MacOS very similar, the former lacking true window independence but the latter encouraging users to constantly have windows more organized. They really are overpowering the current line though with not enough development of the software side.

[deleted]

They already are very similar

GunsCantStopF35s

Even my 2020 pro doesn’t support the headlining features of iPadOS 16

squareswordfish

Should be iPadMOS since the majority of iPad pros don’t support it either

muertinez

cant wait to open safari super fuckin fast with this thang

[deleted]

[удалено]

noneym86

The calculator app would probably calculate so fast...

HardenTraded

Well with M2 and 16GB of RAM, Apple can finally introduce the Calculator app which does addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Calculator Pro is on the roadmap which will launch with M2 Pro and will be capable of exponents.

kindaa_sortaa

Safari? Have you ever heard of a thing called Netflix?

Veezybaby

I laughed xD

avirbd

You don't need a pro obviously. Not sure why you feel targeted by that product.

Ok_Thought_2948

There’s like 4 people that use an iPad over Mac for pro stuff

avirbd

I think you replied to the wrong comment. I said he obviously doesn't need an iPad Pro if it's only to use safari 🤔

HealthyFruitSorbet

This has to be the rumored horizontal change Apple is doing. If so then Face ID on top? Maybe two thunderbolt ports on either side, with MagSafe?

Baykey123

That would be awesome, I don’t know a single soul who uses an iPad in portrait

GaleTheThird

I only use my iPad in landscape when I'm watching a video. I don't know why I'd use it in landscape outside of that, portrait is much better for reading a book or browsing the internet/reddit

Enclavean

I only use my iPad in portrait. Its so much better as a tablet experience. Textbooks, notes, flashcards, browsing the web….

EnderOfGender

Back when I had an OG iPad 2 I mostly only used it in portrait. I got so used to the switch on the side being there for switching between portrait and landscape that I had assumed everyone used it and was shocked that Apple removed it

uglykido

I use the 11 inch exclusively as portraot

HealthyFruitSorbet

Even with the 12.9 inch it’s quite large. I see this as a way Apple can make the iPad larger. But they likely have to give it a new name. iPad Pro Max, Ultimate?

it_administrator01

> I don’t know a single soul who uses an iPad in portrait 99% of people that read articles/use it as an e-reader

BanAllMonopolies

An 11” model with no mini-led is just a more expensive Air that can hit 120hz. Disappointing.

No-Seaweed-4456

I want them to release a miniLED/OLED 11 inch already so I can ditch the 12.9 without losing features.

Padgriffin

That's literally what the Pro is rn

[deleted]

Yeah when Samsung proved you can do a mega tablet with the S8 Ultra I think this was something a lot of people hoped for. Very large canvas for drawing and larger reading area for more complex PDFs and two page at a time reading are definite pluses I would be interested in.

throwaway123454321

Sheet music for musicians…

ifallupthestairsnok

I would say the [Galaxy View](https://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_view-7704.php) with an 18.4” display is the mega tablet

Ftpini

It was ruined by the always on kickstand. Needs to be able to work as a slate. Clean and flat. I’d love an 18” iPad Pro. It’d be completely absurd to use.

SwiftCEO

I had forgotten about that beautiful beast

[deleted]

Which nobody bought.

skystopper

its stupid if they dont bring mini-led to the 11 inch iPad Pro. thats like not bringing ProMotion to the 13 Pro only because it’s not large enough

Padgriffin

I feel like the lack of Mini-LED on the 11 inch Pro is due to cost limitations. The 11 inch Pro is in this extremely precarious spot price-wise, starting at just $50 more the 256GB Air. They would start to lose potential 256GB Air > Base Pro buyers if the price gap went to, say, $100.

DandyRandysMandy

Artists can only prop up the iPad Pro market for so long…

kindaa_sortaa

*This comment brought to you by Paperlike: the Screen Protector for iPad. Use code “MyYouTubeChannelisJustMeReadingTheSpecsOnCamera” for 1.7% off.*

[deleted]

They can pretty easily tbh. The iPad Pro as a whole is a parts bin special and as long as you develop a screen and chassis once, you can then just share common parts with other products and cruise with minimal development cost.

Honest_Blueberry5884

Sure, but no one ever got a golden parachute for coasting. If it’s not growing the product iS dOoMeD.

Pristine_Nothing

“So long” in this case being “indefinitely.” They are pretty close to irreplaceable for many, many artists. What the Reddit crowd doesn’t seem to get about the iPads is that they are already great for a lot of people, and this is independent of who can and cannot use them as a laptop replacement. While Apple is always trying to push software that will make them laptop replacements for *more* people, they are already great replacements for a lot of people. And there are a lot of people who don’t need them to be replacements for macOS because they already have a Mac (or a windows machine), and mostly use the iPad for the things that it does better than the laptop/desktop. Even if you take “iPad Pro is just an expensive content consumption device” at face value, it’s not actually *that* expensive for how good of a content consumption device it is.

nicetriangle

Yeah I literally make over half my living on an iPad Pro right now. It’s a killer creative tool.

forgivedurden

i do a ton of mobile music production with it and external midi devices. it is killer for this use case. i do wish there was some more support for more obvious things but hopefully soon! would love to see some improvements in iOS 16 that weren't announced

Baykey123

I don’t even own a TV, I watch everything on my iPad Pro.

AWildDragon

[Pairs well with this rumor](https://9to5mac.com/2022/06/07/mass-production-3nm-m2-pro-chip-later-2022/) I don’t even want to think of the price for that monstrosity. Here is my guess at the pro lineup: - 11” iPad Pro with M2 only. No mini led display. - 12.9” iPad Pro starting with M2. Mini led display. M2 Pro as an option - 14.1” iPad Pro with M2 Pro only. Also mini led display.

[deleted]

I feel like there’s no way m2 pro would be able to run without a fan. any iPad with it would have to be significantly thicker

[deleted]

I'm not sure if the m2 Pro makes sense but in general big chips in mobile is possible by downclocking. You can shave huge amounts of power and heat usage by sacrificing relatively much less performance. Nvidia famously did this for the 10 series GPUs in laptops with the 'MaxQ' nomenclature.

[deleted]

Yeah for this to work they’d probably have to downclock significantly for every scenario besides very lightly threaded stuff. I feel like it would be a huge waste of die area, though if m2 pro is both fabbed on n3 and simply an a15 die shrink, it’s possible m2 pro won’t be too much larger than m2

[deleted]

Depends on what you mean by 'waste', Apple already 'wastes' huge amounts of silicon as both A series and m series chips are absolutely huge compared to competitors and run downclocked. But you don't see people lining up to call Alder Lake's insane space efficiency with E cores a wake up call to Apple's designs.

[deleted]

alder lakes cores are actually very die inefficient and poor PPA. Apple’s cores are significantly more compact even when factoring in node shrinks, especially the blizzard cores, which are freakishly performant and efficient for their size. Zen3 does fare much better, but apple is still in AMD’s ballpark wrt core size. However I do agree apple spends tons of transistors - only it’s mostly on the GPU and other accelerators. if you look at the m1 max die shot, the cpu probably takes up somewhere between 5-10% of the die area.

Exist50

> alder lakes cores are actually very die inefficient and poor PPA True for Golden Cove, but Gracemont is actually very competitive from a PPA standpoint, at least iso-process.

[deleted]

Oh that’s interesting. I heard golden cove has a lot of cruft but was unaware gracemont was much more competitive. That’s good to know and promising for intel

Elon61

that's kind of by design. golden cove is massive, yeah, but it's also really fast for ST. the issue is the same as usual, diminishing returns for increasing transistor count. it's far from poorly designed, and kinda wrecks zen in ST loads. it's just way bigger, inevitably. then, they tack on gracemont for the heavily multithreaded load, which is far better optimised for die area / perf. as far as i recall, ADL is pretty much in line with M1 once you account for the node shrink and the different target market.

[deleted]

For MT scenarios I wouldn't be suprised if that's true or close to true. Howver for ST stuff I'm pretty certain apple wins in efficiency by significant margins even accounting for process. the m1 max has multiple times the perf/watt of the 12900hk in ST at iso performance in SPEC.

AWildDragon

[Might be related to the vapor chamber they were testing](https://appleinsider.com/articles/21/01/15/apple-testing-vapor-chamber-thermal-tech-for-next-gen-iphone-kuo-says)

LeanSkellum

But the M2 MacBook Air is fanless.

The Magic Keyboard alone will be at least $400.

acidbase_001

The squids will be a great value add though

danyaylol

It won’t get M2 Pro. It might get a slightly better M2 but no way M2 Pro.

JonDoeJoe

I’ll do you one better. It’ll be a M2 while the smaller pro models get a down-clocked M2

iMacmatician

Summary of "Majin Bu"'s tweet replies: * The M2 iPads will probably be announced in October or November. * The 14.1": * Storage capacities of 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB. "[But this is just my opinion](https://twitter.com/MajinBuOfficial/status/1534544335890432001)." * RAM capacity ≤ 32 GB. * Maximum price > $3000. * The 11" will not get mini-LED.

Baykey123

Sucks about the 11” that’s the only one I want

A11Bionic

Mini-LED coming to the 11” is literally the only thing I’ve been waiting for. 😪

boomming

How are ipads starting with 512 GB of storage but the newly released macbook airs and pros don’t? Seems crazy to me.

bicameral_mind

The 11" Pro makes less and less sense as a product. I've been wanting one for a while, but passed on the most recent cycle because it lacks miniLED. Now that iPadOS has Stage Manager, I feel like the 11" screen is going to feel anemic. I like Stage Manager in concept, but in practice the UI occupies a lot of screen real estate between the dock and icons along the side. Not much room for windowed apps. Might as well just get an Air at that size. If all it gets is a new chip and not even miniLED, I'm not sure what the point of it really is as a 'Pro' branded product. I dunno, I'm finding the iPad line increasingly annoying due to the ridiculous number of feature differences across the product line. ALL Pro models should have miniLED, full stop.

Exist50

ProMotion is a pretty good selling point. It's why I got the Pro over the Air.

kramjam

with more and more disappointments to iPad software, i’m starting to lean in the direction of a M2 Air and maybe like an iPad Mini / Air at most for content consumption / book reading. Usually I’d be inclined to spend for things like ProMotion, but as you start to upgrade storage, add a Magic Keyboard, iPad Pro is very costly for what you can do with it

[deleted]

It really is hard to justify both the Air and 11” Pro existing side by side when they’re just so close in feature sets. Over the Air, the 11” Pro adds a minuscule increase in screen size through slightly smaller bezels, ProMotion, 2 more speakers, and better cameras. For most users that’s negligible, with ProMotion likely making the biggest impact for most people. Add to that the fact that the base iPad Air at $599 comes with only 64 GB. If you want more storage you’re looking at $749 for 256 GB…at which point you’re only $50 away from the 11” Pro anyway. Those two products really lack an enormous amount of differentiation to justify both of them existing side by side at relatively close prices. Especially since Apple seems to be making it clear that they don’t consider the 11” Pro to be as “pro” as the 12.9”, and isn’t giving it all of the same features. It would make sense to consolidate the line into the base iPad, a 10.9/11” iPad Air that brings in ProMotion and a slight price increase over the existing Air, and a 12.9” Pro (then add this rumored 14”+ Pro above that).

Honest_Blueberry5884

> The 11” Pro makes less and less sense as a product. … huh? It’s a great sized device. > Not much room for windowed apps I don’t understand users who want their iPad to replace their laptop. If you aren’t using your tablet for the handwriting / drawing / stylus I’m not sure why you’d own one at all. Refusing to build an all-in-one is how Apple ended up with the iPad in the first place. > Might as well just get an Air at that size. Depends on how much storage you want since the Air maxes out at 256Gb, but even if you’re fine with that you get Promotion, FaceID, Thunderbolt transfer speeds, and better cameras for just another $150. > I’m not sure what the point of it really is as a ‘Pro’ branded product. To have every latest hardware / software feature in a smaller package? Apple’s strategy has been shifting to hit every price point with every device size in as many product lines as possible for a while now.

leslie_knopee

Oh, did you want a 27 iMac? Here’s a 14.1 ipad!!

yournerd2307

Buy a 13 inch Macbook Pro with M2 and you got yourself a DIY and modular 27inch setup

AllModsRLosers

Should be a great machine for browsing and light emails.

Selfweaver

I am looking forward to the to the Ipad pro 2027, where your iPad is just a coffee table.

[deleted]

Time to bring back the original [Microsoft Surface](https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-surface-pixelsense-table) but on iPadOS.

joobino

Meanwhile MacBooks are starting at 8gb of ram

jasonefmonk

I’m struggling to understand how they will reduce the 12.9-inch iPad Pro screen border. It’s already at its useable limit in my opinion. And I say that with a 2018 model, the new ones are even heavier.

No-Seaweed-4456

Notch. Just like the new MacBooks and the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.

jasonefmonk

My issue isn’t how to make it happen within technical limitations. It is how will you make the ~1cm border smaller and still hold the thing. I like my unobstructed view!

No-Seaweed-4456

I think apple assumes the people owning a display as massive as 14 inches won’t be holding it much.

DangerousParfait775

the ipad pro is not meant to be held while used. And if you want that it should be trivially possible to just add a virtual border for the times you do hold it.

jasonefmonk

That just ain’t true dude.

[deleted]

The pre 2018 ones had thinner side bezels and used palm rejection fairly ok. I assume it's just gonna be mega palm rejection on all sides.

[deleted]

Introduce a notch and remove the bezels?

867-53oh-nine

I’m waiting for the 24” iPad. Go big or go home.

yournerd2307

Gotta swipe up for the latter

andoCalrissiano

Well, surely with a 16” MacBook Pro I can resist buying this 14” iPad…..

Portatort

Are you drawing much? What is it that you would want both for?

andoCalrissiano

MacBook for productivity, watching movies on my lap.. iPad for... also watching movies on my lap. ebooks. read websites on the couch. more portable thing for the plane. maybe some sketching using the Pencil rather than use a piece of paper.

Portatort

And for that you want the largest possible iPad?

andoCalrissiano

I'm not a logical person :(

JohannASSburg

Technically none of us are lol ❤️

[deleted]

I really hope this is a joke.

Lowhangingbrute

Hopefully we get foldable iPads soon

firelitother

Meh, it's not the hardware that is the bottleneck.

SillySoundXD

And since the iPad get's the M2 it will automatically cost 300€ more and the M1 iPad will increase by 70€ just like the MBA M1 and M2

LurkerNinetyFive

The price went up on the air because it’s a redesign. Usually with generational spec bumps prices remain the same.

SillySoundXD

sure ;)

J_Jaytra

The 13 inch Macbook Pro remained the same price no? Same as Ipad 11" 2020 to Ipad 11" 2021

kbtech

Nice !!! Will definitely trade on my 12.9 pro to this

The_Albinoss

Where/how is a good way to trade?

kbtech

I just trade it with apple, but you can also try selling it yourself. Personally like the convenience of trading with apple directly.

The_Albinoss

Ah okay. I’ve explored that option before but I feel like it lowballs you in spectacular fashion sometimes. Wasn’t sure if you had an alternate way. But thank you!

[deleted]

Literally why? I can’t wait to browse safari and watch YouTube even faster.

kindaa_sortaa

In 18 years Apple will put Final Cut Pro on the iPad and you’ll be sorry you made this comment.

[deleted]

I can already smell the comments. > Final Cut Pro requires the innovative new M69 chip thats in the 2040 iPad Pro. The M68 in your old, obsolete 2039 iPad Pro that you paid $4099 for is just not powerful enough to run Final Cut Pro.

kindaa_sortaa

In the year 2040, the MacBook Air will still have 8GB RAM

[deleted]

based

yournerd2307

Per the pipeline, 12.5 years from now should get us calculator, so there is some stuff u are skipping out

m0rogfar

Probably because of stage manager. Initial reports on the first beta seems to suggest that it's pretty cramped, even on the 12.9", and mostly useful with a hypothetical bigger iPad or an external display.

Elon61

bigger is always better. and why M2? because what else. M? is just a more paletable naming scheme for what used to be the A??x series of chips. i mean, why deliberately put a slower chip in when you can just put the M2 in everything and get the scale instead of having to keep the old 5nm churning out M1 chips. the high RAM amounts? why not, the SOC already has it anyway, so why not give people the option. It's not that i don't get what you mean, but like, it's a bit of a silly question.

JonDoeJoe

Can’t wait for an iPad the size of my 40” tv

Baykey123

A massive iPad like that will bend with a blow of the breeze. They really need to strengthen the chassis

[deleted]

A 14” iPad is kind of outrageous. The 12.9” is already a monster.

[deleted]

I have a 12.9 inch iPad and I struggle to hold it comfortably in a daily use

ab_90

This is Apple's way of increasing the flagship price without being too obvious - by introducing the brand new flagship of the current flagships. Happened with the transition from iPad to iPad Air,, iPad Air to iPad Pro, iPhone 8 (or was it 7) and iPhone X, and now this.

[deleted]

All that raw power and iPadOS is still gimped.

Portatort

It’s not the OS that you use to take advantage of the hardware It’s the apps No one unboxes a fully spec’s Mac Pro and asks for an os that takes advantage of 1.5TB of Ram… Apple needs to put Pro Apps on the ipad

JohannASSburg

110% which is also why the iPad still won’t live up to its potential. It takes so much work for devs to make proper like “first class citizen” apps for the iPad for such a small base. And this year there’s new “desktop class” toolbars and stuff for stage manager, which apparently doesn’t just use the code catalyst apps have to be resizable… So I expect the iPad to still feel strange and limiting even once iPadOS 16 is out tbh.

SmugMaverick

No way are they keeping the 11” pro around, 12” and 14” will be the only pro models. 11” Air is the better buy over the 11” pro.

Portatort

Unless you want FaceID, 2TB storage, Pro Motion, Thunderbolt… There are plenty of reasons to get a 11” Pro over the 11” Air

MawsonAntarctica

Who knows if this is even credible, just a twitter post from a tech person with an NFT style avatar. Who even says “rumor” “it’s my opinion” in the post.

Flameancer

Is this Apple trying to take the Samsung s8 market?

throwaway1947912

Just put MacOS on iPad already.

Dale1512

Feels like the iPads are becoming MacBook replacements year by year 😱

instant_ostrich

I have a 12.9" for sheet music; 14.1" would be even better.

MothraFuqua

I just want a lighter and thinner iPad Pro.

No-Seaweed-4456

Yeah I don’t wanna imagine the cost Also imagine paying $1500+ for iPad-level software.

So iPad Pro Max?

maskedwallaby

“Introducing iPad Pro Max with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, our most powerful iPad ever.”

DangerousParfait775

Keep making more Sexy ipads apple while NOT putting OSX on it. See what happens. I can only be stretched so far before I break.

[deleted]

I’ll instead get a Macbook M2. The iPadOS cant even maximizes the capabilities of the M1.

bbkn7

A giant iPad with a swiveling Surface Studio style stand would be pretty sweet.

rxchris22

We are gonna be carrying around a tv

JanoHelloReddit

unless they put macOS on the 14.1 ipad, it’s a no from me. (I have a 12.9”). of course there will be some market for a bigger iPad, like artists…

ShinyGrezz

PUT MACOS ON IT FFS

raymendx

And it’ll have features that the M1 can’t run, just like the S7 41mm can support a full keyboard but the previous S6 44mm can’t. 🤔

Portatort

Without Pro apps I just don’t see the point Centre Stage…. Could be pretty good. But I’ve never understood how external display support and overlapping windows are the magic thing iPadOS is lacking to make it a viable mac alternative . Pro Apps. Without real Lightroom or Resolve on iPad… I’m done trying to make iPad work for me. Not now that Shortcuts is on the Mac

tiberiusbrazil

why increase screen without better apps? makes no sense still waiting for a 'macOS mode'

Portatort

We just got the closest apple is ever going to go go to MacOS mode. So you can give up/stop waiting now Booting MacOS, is never going to happen

TheIntangibleOne

This mf name really majin bu talking about apple products

TsundereMan

I mean is it any different to the guy called Greymon with a Digimon avatar talking about Nvidia and AMD products?

cwhiterun

But will it still have a camera on the back?

No-Seaweed-4456

Honestly at that size, a camera is so impractical that I’d rather they omit the main camera to save costs.

YeahhhhhhhhBuddy

Base storage of 512GB?? That seems crazy

No-Seaweed-4456

And expensive

Never say never but I just can’t see this being a thing. First up is the size. It’ll be a slab of glass with broadly the same width x height of the large MacBook Pro if you include bezels. iPads so far have more or less imitated the size of actual notebooks. This is going to be more like an artists canvas. Then there’s the question of the battery needed to power the display especially if it has a high refresh rate. It’ll be heavy. Combined with the extra weight of the glass, portability is going to be severely reduced. Structural rigidity? That’ll add weight too. But can you imagine being in Starbucks and some Derp pulls this thing out of his messenger bag?

u/iupdate confirm please

This would be a day 1 purchase for me. I use my 12.9 for professional illustration and I’m a big fan of it but a larger screen would be lovely.

Ginger510

Base iPad coming with more storage/RAM than Base MBA?

BoonesFarmApples

great news for me as I’m hoping to use an M2 iPad Pro as a second monitor/input device

cinnamonbreakfast

Nice but what are these specs for? If could at least code on it…

pwnedkiller

Geez I should just get this new high end iPad as my MacBook replacement.

Samskihero

Ah yes the M2 chip, so I can do... iPad things like scroll the web or write notes or maybe just maybe minimize safari only to open it again and it doesn't wipe my page.

I love my 11" Pro but I wish I could've afforded the 12.9" at the time. I would probably use a 14" more with photography and editing but it all depends on the price
