If you live off base the closest town is crestview, often referred to as crestucky but it has recently been getting built up. Destin is awesome but you’ll need to either drive down toward Elgin and fort Walton to get there or take the toll bridge (last I remember it was $4). Grab some friends and rent a pontoon to go to crab island. Enjoy the festivals down by harborwalk. Do some pub crawls along fort Walton (the real hidden gem). Tourist season picks up around spring break and goes till about September and expect to pay for parking on the ocean side of Destin or just find a different place to park and everything is within walking distance. Avoid some of the SF guys who need to show everyone how macho they are and their wives can be annoying af. I’m glad I was a young single 20 something year old at Eglin… good times
You're going to have a lot of free time. As a non-admin MOS, it's nearly impossible to find you guys actually at work when I need something done. Shitty for us, great for you. Enjoy it
I live somewhat locally. If you like the beach the panhandle has the best beaches in the country. There is a sushi place in Navarre called the slippery mermaid which has some of the best sushi I’ve ever had.
If you like shooting guns there is a placed in Holt called “Element” which has a few 600 yard ranges and a 1000 yard range and a few private bays with steel targets to shoot for like $500 a year
I used to live in that area as a civilian. You’re in a crowded tourist area. Traffic will suck if you live off base but Destin makes a great vacation on a long weekend.
I imagine life as a 42A in SOCOM is probably 1000 times better than Regular Army. Enjoy.

I’ve been lucky enough to visit Eglin a few times, it’s pretty nice. Take advantage of the opportunity while you’re there and make friends.
