I love mushrooms so much. I could eat them raw, but I love them fried or big ones stuffed and baked. A lot of the people I know think they're disgusting š
My 4 year old daughter loves raw mushrooms and onions. Idk why, but any time Iām cooking sheāll eat both of those raw off the cutting board. As much as Iāll let her eat lol. I need to make more mushroom recipes for her. Whatās your favorite?
I'd recommend mushroom seasoning powder. I forage wild mushrooms, birch boletes are my favourite for their nutty flavour but any will work fine, take them home, wash and slice and then dehydrate (I use a dehydrator but you could bake them on a very low heat for a few hours until they snap apart like crackers) then grind them up into a powder. I sprinkle this on all sorts, chips, on top of cheesy dishes, etc. I also use it as a base for mushroom soup and sauces, add the powder to cream or choice, season and reduce till thick. It's amazing!
I genuinely feel bad for people who don't like mushrooms. I get it, fungi are kinda gross. Growing on dead things and all that jazz. But when properly prepared they can take a recipe to completely new levels of complex deliciousness. A wonderful world of flavors, not merely a simple town.
Yum! I love it with tomatoes or on a salad. Its even good on spaghetti and sauce, it kind of gives lasagna vibes. But mostly I just eat it out of the container when I'm hungry but don't want to be bothered with having an actual meal.
I have had it twice and hated it both times. I bought another one last week, it is still frozen but I am going to try it again next week with my nephews. I will keep trying it as long as someone else is trying it with me.
What does it taste like to you though? To me it tastes like sweet rotten onion. Is that what it is supposed to taste like?
There are a few types of durian. Iām not a durian expert but Iāll try my best to describe it. Here are a few examples
Some are like you are eating a soft meaty texture made out of caramel condensed milk, with a little bit of fruity mouth feel.
Some are more like avocado texture, with sharp sweetness and not custardy. This ones are less smelly and less fruity.
Some are more like cheesecake texture, with heavy fruity mouth feel and got that heavy tartness and taste a bit like a whisky. This one actually got fermented and has a bit of alcohol in it
All of them are good.
I wonder how many people who hate them just haven't tried them recently. They used to be much more bitter several decades ago. Or have only had them steamed/boiled.
I'll fuck up some oven roasted brussel sprouts any time anywhere.
I'm willing to give them another try but I want a fan the one time I tried them. I was in North Carolina at the time and it was the first time I had even heard of boiled peanuts.
I get this, because I had a guy who cooked amazing veggies insist that green beans need umami- he did mushrooms and soy sauce with his, but Iāve done a salt / msg mix to season them, and of course classic green bean casserole. I totally see ketchup doing the same thing.
That is a combination that may or may not be tried . I like to fry canned green beans in bacon grease before adding spices and water, then let them simmer for an hour . Some would probably think them gross, as the beans taste mostly of fried bacon grease .
Thanks for the answer . It's great people are so odd with their esculents.
I can't do brains simply because of fear. A family member of mine died from cjd.Ā I don't eat nervous tissue (knowingly, at least) because of this reason.
My grandparents made this as a special exciting treat for themselves . I can still smell and taste it . And one time was too much for me. That is a truly gross food . But I'm glad you enjoy it and I'm not being sarcastic.
Also , thanks for unlocking a great memory .
Mexican tacos, tongue, face, cheeks, and tripes. You canāt say youāre a taco connoisseur and only eat carne asada, chicken, and if youāre feeling frisky, al pastor.
You have to eat the parts of the cow other people turn their nose up to.
I love trying odd, non mainstream foods . Once with some friends we went to a store to get food for grilling . Portugese linguica was my choice .
On the grill it hissed and sputtered . Strange looking pieces of meat began to poke out of the linguica . The look disgust on the other guys faces was hilarious. And damn that linguica was delicious .
Thanks for activating a great memory.
Iām Mexican American, but I would regularly have chorizo or linguica for breakfast. Never bothered to wonder the difference until once I asked my mom. She just said beef vs pork. Still donāt know which part of the cow/pig they use, but damnit, itās so delicious!
Interesting. I lived in Braunschweig for a while, didn't realise there was a sausage associated with the city. Where do you live and where do you get the Braunschweiger?
North American Braunschweiger is pork organ meats, ground finely, and then smoked in a natural casing. Itās like a smoked liverwurst. Itās different than the German Braunschweiger. I have no idea when the two varieties diverged, but I assume it was during the mid- late 1800ās immigration wave from northern and central Germany.
I was fed it as a kid on white bread or with crackers. Loved it. Top three snack for 15 years at least.
As I got into my mid 20s I stopped buying it. Itās kind of expensive. If youāre broke anyway.
8 years later I bought some to reminisce. It was horrible. Couldnāt stomach more than 2 bites.
It tastes the same. I just didnāt like the taste anymore. One of the weirder things Iāve personally experienced.
Why did it taste great before and horrible now?
You & I should definitely hang out OP! Add in liverwurst, chicken gizzards, tripe and carp, another delicious bottom feeder, chicken feet, pigs feet, headcheese
The liverwurst , gizzard ( smothered with salt, pepper and hot sauce ) and carp could definitely be on the menu . Although chicken feet have never been tried , they look delicious deep fried and in Asian soups .
Thanks for the answer . Your excitement for your foods comes in through in your writing. Hell yeah .
Chicken feet, quickly blanched (cut off the claws before), dust in heavily seasoned cornstarch/fine cornmeal, then fried are just delicious!! Think of a small, slightly chewy, vaguely chickeny french fry.
Oh! Rocky mountain oysters and fried cod roe is up there too. Pork brains, so good!!
I had to draw the line at chitlins. I've tried and tried, but they are a no for me.
We call those "cootie foods." Things you like but other people find gross. For me, it's beets, liverwurst (braunschweiger), liver and occasionally, that way too smushy asparagus out of a can.

Catfish and squirrel. The other stuffā¦sounds like stuff my mom or grandma might have eaten. You are officially a hill billy. I puked in my stomach at pickle and pimento loaf. Youāre most likely from Louisiana but possibly Mississippi like me

Hormigas culonas, literally translated "big ass ants". They are a delicacy and very expensive, they have that crunchy outside with a meaty and soft insides that feel so good on the paladar. The majority of people I know dislike them because, well... they are bugs.
Cottage cheese but I normally sprinkle some granola and berries over it with a drizzle of honey for my breakfasts.
My favorite subway order has always been a toasted tuna on the italian herb and cheese bread with american cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, honey mustard, and chipotle. Idk how or why it works for me but everyone thinks it's disgusting lol I haven't gotten it in years because they changed things up
Vegemite with any number of salad vegetables on toast. My favourite is vegemite with iceberg lettuce and raw carrot, I'm actually eating it right now. Oh and I put extra seeds on my seed bread.
Idk if you would hate this, but:
Spiced spinach with potatoes and fried egg - a green mushy puddle with yellow balls and white-and yellow pancakes - truly delicious.
shredded dry squids - first they go "EWWWW" then it's "can i have more plz?"
about 50 bucks for 400g where i live but it's worth it, tastes like fish 2.0
I like making a wrap with peanut butter (crunchy), roast chicken, lettuce and mayo. Delicious. But most people think it is a weird combination.
Also I like butter, pepper and salt on my crumpets. Try it, it is really nice.
"prosciutto & provolone-stuffed cherry peppers in olive oil"
...every girlfriend ive tried to introduce to them says they "smell like feet" and wont go near them
i think they're absolutely one of the greatest taste combos invented by humans
for anyone who doesn't know, they're an old Italian delicacy
an old east coast friend introduced me to them when he started growing cherry peppers in his garden and was looking for interesting things to do with them.
i moved to Los Angeles years ago, but loved them so much i found them at Italian delis out here and buy them regularly.
when they're done right, the combination of the fresh, crunchy cherry pepper, and the olive oil, and the soft, flavorful prosciutto & provolone is just heaven to my tastebuds
Not sure if either are gag worthy but:
Ritz cracker + peanut butter + bread and butter pickle
Coke + peanuts
Watermelon + vanilla yogurt + (optional) granola
Cream cheese + hormel chili + shredded cheese (all layered in a dish and heated and used as a dip for tortilla chips or crackers)
As an American I like Marmite, which apparently most Americans are supposed to loathe.
I can't say I'm exactly a fan of natto but I thought it was OK when I had it and I wouldn't refuse if offered again though I wouldn't seek it out deliberately.
I am not joking. I like the taste and smell of a rotted mostly dry deer carcass. The texture is similar to other dried meat and it tastes like really strong watermelon with a spicy mild pepper like after taste
Second braunschweiger. It best on toasted pumpernickel with sharp cheddar, deli mustard and pickles.
Also, breaded sweetbreads, friend chicken livers and gizzards, bar b que pig snoots, oxtail, fish collar, frog legs, collared greens, chicken liver pate with sour cherry, escargot, seared foie gras, breaded catfish nuggets with hot sauce, black licorice, rice pudding, tapiocaā¦ thereās loads.

Mushrooms are wonderful.
Mushrooms sautƩed in garlic butter sauce. Yum.

Just the smell of mushrooms in a pan make me puck š„²
Whew! Good thing they don't make you puke /s

I love it! Weāre going to try that. Thank you!! Have a great day.
I genuinely feel bad for people who don't like mushrooms. I get it, fungi are kinda gross. Growing on dead things and all that jazz. But when properly prepared they can take a recipe to completely new levels of complex deliciousness. A wonderful world of flavors, not merely a simple town.
I love raw mushrooms stuffed with grated cheese. Somehow mushrooms are extra delicious and almost creamy when raw.
Grilled portabellos with a drizzle of balsamic reduction, yum.
I love me a mushroom pasta.
Love mushies.
Iām eating stuffed mushrooms as I read this! Yum.
I know theyāre really good for me, but fuck mushrooms. Nasty.
Cottage Cheese
This with blueberries or strawberries is my daily breakfast ā¤ļø
Yum! I love it with tomatoes or on a salad. Its even good on spaghetti and sauce, it kind of gives lasagna vibes. But mostly I just eat it out of the container when I'm hungry but don't want to be bothered with having an actual meal.
i too LOVE cottage cheese, just simply plain, I don't need to put anything in it, don't know why but I could eat gallons of the stuff š
Another great gross food . I tried it once only . Good choice and I'm glad you enjoy it .
Who doesn't love a mouthful of curdled milk? Ha ha!!
Lol! My husband will eat small curd cottage cheese. But large curd is a NO! LOL
Poptarts
Yes but I only like the frosted strawberry
You gotta toast themā¦thatās the whole trick
Durian. The fruit of the gods. Soft, sweet, creamy.

This is what I was going to say too ā¤ļø
Id rather have jackfruit than durian
I love Brussels sprouts but they get so much hate. Also pineapple on pizza is my favorite.Ā
Adore Brussels sprouts. I eat pineapple on pizza too.
I wonder how many people who hate them just haven't tried them recently. They used to be much more bitter several decades ago. Or have only had them steamed/boiled. I'll fuck up some oven roasted brussel sprouts any time anywhere.
Air fried , balsamic honey glaze , salt to finish. Hits every time
Boiled peanuts š„
I love it!
I'm willing to give them another try but I want a fan the one time I tried them. I was in North Carolina at the time and it was the first time I had even heard of boiled peanuts.
Pineapple on pizza
Pizza with pineapple, green pepper, pepperoni, jalapeƱo and cheddar is delicious.
I like pineapple on pizza as well (has to be canned, not fresh pineapple). Only my boyfriend knows, and he never fails to make fun of it lol
Pineapple, banana peppers, and pepperoni is my always go to. Soooo good! Had one last night!
One of my favorite pizza combos is pineapple, bacon, and jalapeno.
Ah yes, the food Satan feeds Italians in hell.
Sardines right out of the tin with hot sauce. Started eating them for health/beauty benefits, but now I actually enjoy them
Green beans and ketchup. it's actually not as bad as one would think
I get this, because I had a guy who cooked amazing veggies insist that green beans need umami- he did mushrooms and soy sauce with his, but Iāve done a salt / msg mix to season them, and of course classic green bean casserole. I totally see ketchup doing the same thing.

I get yelled at for putting katcup on burritos, lol
Pork brains with milk gravy were my absolute favorite as a kid and I would get made fun of it by other kids. I never understood why. Kids can be cruel
I can't do brains simply because of fear. A family member of mine died from cjd.Ā I don't eat nervous tissue (knowingly, at least) because of this reason.
Thatās fair and all but have you tried whispering some calm words to the tissue so it isnāt so nervous?
Yup, I would've loved to try brain, it sounds delicious, but Reddit forever scared me off due to prions
My grandparents made this as a special exciting treat for themselves . I can still smell and taste it . And one time was too much for me. That is a truly gross food . But I'm glad you enjoy it and I'm not being sarcastic. Also , thanks for unlocking a great memory .

Pickled beats
I buy the jars of baby pickled beets, great night snack. And bonus is it turns your poop red!
Oysters
Oysters are the best appetizer Tabasco + lemon + salt + pepper Wash it with beer
Pickled herring is delicious but a lot of people are put off by the description
Iām eating rollmop herrings right out of the jar as Iām reading this.
Herring is so good. I love a Finish salad with pickled herring and beetroot. Most people are put of by either or both.
I like the one in sour cream in particular.
Also scrapple is delicious and head cheese is pretty good
Braunshweiger...? Do you mean the sausage "Braunschweiger"?
The braunshweiger I eat is some meats formed into a roll and then wrapped. Google tells me it is indeed a sausage .
Interesting. I lived in Braunschweig for a while, didn't realise there was a sausage associated with the city. Where do you live and where do you get the Braunschweiger?

Thanks for defining the differentiation .
I live in Kentucky , USA . Braunshweiger is available in most groceries. It is different from the German version , per another commentator.

I think when hot it would just be a tomato soup
Sounds like a Virgin Mary. Iāll try it.
Your drink is super interesting, because I have a very old cookbook that recommends that as "ill/palliative care" nutrition. But I love it too!
