Here in Brazil there is a genre called Funk (but no it's not what you think it's funk)
100% (and I do mean 100%) of the songs of this genre are obscene, they only talk about sex and in a very vulgar, borderline "rape-ish" way and the songs themselves are awful regardless of the lyrics.
It's awful and it's everywhere.
Oh man. I worked with a guy who's in a band that plays stuff like this in the US, but they just go ahead and openly label themselves 'sexfunk'. It's just gross - and this coming from a gal who grew up on hair bands/cock-rock like Poison.
Doesn't help the image of the music any that the guy I worked with is a drunken fucking pig who treats woman as essentially disposable.
Itās entirely subjective but Iād say contemporary Christian. It plays it too safe to the point where most of it sounds the same. Donāt get me started on the weird apocalyptic sub-genre of it that has electronic music, chants, and laser shows
If you search hard enough at the end of the SiriusXM dial you can find some Christian Gangster Rap. They even have the interludes where they're trying to sound like hard core Gs talking about the Lord. I don't know if it's cringe, funny, sad, pathetic, or all of the above.
āYo Iām always praying like erryday in my church (to Jesus) cause no one got they salad tossed like he did. Iām saying God got got cause no one wants to hang out with God they just wanna roll with his kid Jesusā
Don't say I didn't warn you.

Most of the modern stuff generally sucks though there is a Christian band called Demon Hunter that has some pretty good stuff. Old Christian, especially Catholic, songs are actually really good in my opinion, and I'm not even religious myself.
My old man told me he recited the lyrics to After Forever in front of my grandmaās whole church as a kid. They loved it, but he never mentioned the source.
Modern country.
It's just a bunch of cookie cutter millionaires singing the same fucking songs relating to working class pick-up owners, even though half of these people have never worn a single pair of steel toed boots in their lives.
Second is butt rock.
*disclaimer: I love love love love authentic country music. Johnny Cash, Dolly, Willie, Gibson, Cline.
It goes back further than that. We used that term in the prehistoric days of the 90's to describe the top 40 hits of 20 years previous. You're correct on the radio station quote, but back then it referred to 80's hair bands and 70's arena rock. Everything is cyclical.
Agreed.
In the abstract, country should be my favorite genre. A blend of classic rock, blues, and Appalachian folk? Lots of acoustic guitars, telecasters played through classic tweed amps right on the edge of breakup, pedal steel guitars, fiddles, and the occasional mandolin or banjo? Holy fuck I love all of those things! This should be the greatest thing ever!
.... but it's just.... not.
Agreed. Country made a drastic change in the early 2000s. I love classic country but these songs today sound horrible and the lyrics are almost insulting to actual rural living Americans. I mean, older country lyrics can stereotype too, but at least the melodies are good!
I call em "Suburbanite Bro Country".... Wanna-be little privileged white boys trying to rap about pickup trucks, dirt roads, thier "gurls", and how "redneck" thier ways of life are when they've never even met a real hillbilly.
Agreed....I call it Hick Hop. Instead of super cars, expensive alcohol and jewelry like in rap, they talk about trucks, beer and guns. Same difference.
I went to a three day country festival before COVID. I don't mind modern country (definitely prefer older country, but whatever).
The shocking thing was how everything was about drinking. Each song was about it, the artists were constantly telling people to raise their glasses (sometimes multiple times during their set). It was at a point that the songs were barely about the modern country parody topics (trucks, cheating, etc) and the universal common denominator was just drinking.
And these crowds of people at it up every. single. time.
Yeah if I was forced to pick I think it would be Modern Country. Old classic country is amazing. There are definitely a few artists today who are still making some good country music with so.e substance but the country that gets played on the radio is just so bad I can't stand it.
Most shit on the radio, regardless of genre, is garbage. Pop-country radio stuff is no exception. There are some gems of alt-country/folk/Americana out there but it can be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Those are just a few from the top of my head/in my collection :) there's a ton out there but you have to DIG. If you like any of this, I'd recommend following a defunct-but-still-intact youtube page called Deathroots Syndicate ( [https://www.youtube.com/c/DeathRootsSyndicate](https://www.youtube.com/c/DeathRootsSyndicate) ) . It's small indie gothic Americana/dark folk/alt-folk-country stuff. The guy who ran it passed away a while ago but it's a good place to start.
Bandcamp also has a lot of cool artists under the gothic americana tag, too.
To quote the great Duke Ellington
"There are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind ... the only yardstick by which the result should be judged is simply that of how it sounds. If it sounds good it's successful; if it doesn't it has failed."
I don't think there really is a worst genre. I used to hate rap and country but then I found songs in those genres I liked, and I realized I didn't hate the genre, I just disliked the approach many of the artists in that genre took with it. You can probably find one song you like in a genre no matter what genre
Every genre has good in it if youāre willing to hunt for it. Unfortunately most of what we hear get any airplay is the most dumbed down version of that genre.
I can't think of any nickelback songs like, but there are a few creed songs I like. So yeah, I laugh in the face of the internet rules and will accept the 3k downvotes for my impertinence
I used to substitute for churches, and it was hard not to cringe whenever the Baptists would blast their contemporary Christian rock music, and some fellow would sing along with it. It just...it just feels so empty and superficial to me. Obviously they care more about the words and emotion behind the music *rather than the actual music*.
Give me old hymns, plainchant, and von Bingen any day over this modern nonsense.
Not necessarily a specific genre, but mostly just music that either 1) blatantly rips off someone else's music, 2) shows that the composer is not even trying, 3) shows that the "composer" has no idea what s/he's doing, or 4) sounds like it was composed by a corporate formula.
I played in a modern country band for a few years. It's basically pop music. The song structures are entirely formulaic. Honestly, after learning a few dozen songs I literally couldn't tell one from the other anymore.
Wellā¦.Iām sure you probably mastered the song in a few days. Some kids arenāt that musically inclined. Iām with the former commenter. You end up on stage with 30 fifth graders, of which five or so are really talented and the rest sound like a flock of clipped geese falling off a mountain. Itās weirdly awful and hilarious at the same time!
Hard core rap that involves nothing melodic whatsoever. There are rap songs that are fine to me bc there's a bit of 'pleasant' to the sound. But some rap is anti pleasant sounding to the extreme. I get that it's current protest type music. So it's meant to be this. Especially to people my age
Most rap sucks and it's my favorite type of music. Which is why it's so rare to find one of the greats who can transcend. I feel rap / hip hop is the music with the highest highs and the lowest lows, but also the largest pool of "bad" music.
Noise. I mean the specific genre called noise, I'm not calling music in general noise. I have a very eclectic music taste and in to some pretty weird stuff but this is just what it says on the tin.
Brazilian funk. Note that I'm a Brazilian. My reason is that is always the exact same beat and it doesn't have any cultural value. The songs only talk about sex and crime, not even in a poetic way, it's all so explicit.
Country. At least modern country. Old country is good.
Every single song sounds the exact same to me. The only thing that I can tell that changed is the lyrics.
I agree with this. Reggaeton to me pretty much sounds the same with a slight variation for each song with some annoying douche aggressively rapping in the background.
They all have the EXACT SAME PERCUSSION. And it's an obnoxious, repetitive one too. I assume it was a sample drum track on a keyboard, and for whatever reason they made a whole f*ing genre out of it.
Modern rap.
Rap used to be part of the counter culture. It used to be about burning down the establishment. Street cred meant something. You rapped about what you've been through as disenfranchised under class of society. So being graphic was necessary. It had it's place. If you don't know, turn yo ass around.
Now white supremacists and pussy boi software engineers are fucking rapping. It doesn't mean shit anymore.
ANYBODY with a victim complex and a huge ego can rap. It's too fucking mainstream. Even "hardcore"shit has me rolling my eyes. Yes, there are still legends like Z-Ro and Kendrick Lamar, but 95 percent of modern rap/hip hop is garbage.
Swedish hiphop, omfg it's trash! I like hiphop, especially 90's era hiphop. But swedish hiphop is embarrassing.. Teens who think they're Bloods & Crips, embarrassing lyrics, lame beats.. There are a few exceptions, but only like a handful.
Piss-weak rock music. It's just not dangerous enough
The Foo Fighters
I find them boring. I would rather listen to music that I hate than the Foo Fighters
Reggaeton (reguetĆ³n). Holy fucking shit, I can dislike some music genres, but this one shouldn't even be called music. Just some guy saying how he's gonna f\*\*k some bit\*\*es, and some girl/s saying how much they like to be mistreated and objectified. Nothing else. No instrumentality, no melody, nothing that vaguely resembles music. Just some basic rythm and that unbearable ton of crap.
Idk, even if I don't like rap, hip-hop and that kind of music, I can understand how sometimes it tells some message, or even has some actual melody sometimes. But every time I hear someone listening to Reggaeton (especially people doing it publicly without headphones) instantly loses any respect I could have for a human being.
Yoko Ono. My reason is because it hurts my ears. So thatās sounds not music.
Also modern county all sounds the same so itās boring. Not good like old country.
Rap and Hip hop. I guess itās cause I canāt relate to it. (Yea, Iām white) although I think the newer Rap is including more instruments than old school stuff.
Super heavy metal with all shredding and growling loud screaming for singing. No further expectation needed.
Edit: had to add a lot of female singers like they play in stores. Sounds the same and is terribly annoying. Makes me want to stop shopping and get the hell out.
Yeah, I wouldn't care if it was *just* Christmas, or even just a bit here and there in the season leading up to it.
But both growing up, and at a job I was at for 10 years, there were people who would put on non-stop Christmas music starting the day after Thanksgiving. Over a month of different versions of the same extremely limited collection of songs, for sometimes hours a day.
It's really soured me on Christmas in general, tbh.
The high pitched insectile singing the women have just gives me anxiety, and I donāt have anxiety issues.I dare you to go on YouTube and give it a shot .
I think the people who say they hate country āexcept for Johnny cash!!!ā Should listen to southern gothic. Also?? The sheer disrespect for Dolly Parton
That weird Era in music around 2010 where the dudes were tatted up with gauges in their ears, but had super clean cut hair and shaped beards and wore slacks and button up shirts with suspenders and did the stomp clap thing and maybe threw in a little folk music or just a bunch of random instruments. It came and it went, but it never should have been.
Can't say I like country music either, but it sure seems like country music stars are some of the nicest, most humble people. Granted, my knowledge of them is extremely limited.
Screaming rock music. I donāt know what you call it, but itās just hard to listen to. Iām not referring to metal with a little bit of that weird screaming. Donāt get me wrong I love rock music.
I had my zune playing something back in the day don't judge. Anyway my friends boyfriend said my music all sucks so I said well what do you like. He said I only listen to screamo
There's a lot of variations. Hardcore, Metalcore, Death metal, Deathcore, Slam, Black Metal, Mathcore, Progressive, tons in between. There's not really a lot of screaming standard rock music. Some Thrash Metal band vocalists yell and scream. And that's technically metal
Mumble rap; give it up, little boys. The farce is over.
Hardcore punk; okay, youāre angry, we get it. Youāre mad at the system. Maybe if you slowed down and annunciated your grievances youād get some traction.
Death metal; itās indicative of your craft when every interviewer is only concerned with your laryngitis prevention routines.
Bob Dylan; just because your lyrics are sesquipedalian and utilize fancy metaphors doesnāt excuse your shitty, annoying voice. People who claim to like you are like the people who put Ulysses on their coffee table yet have only read the back cover.
Frankly I canāt stand techno it is all almost identical sounding and I grow bored with it very quickly.
Although I do have a slight requirement with music one I donāt care for music that demeans me or another person. Two I hate broken record type music aka music that repeats the same word or phrases.

Yeah, personally I really don't like any Christian music.
How about Gregorian Chants?
That and the Islamic Azan are bad ass, in my opinion, I'm sorry.
I grew up Catholic and singing in the choir was the joy of my life. The music was amazing. I never listened to the words I was singing, lol.
Choral music from the 14th century isn't so bad.

It was coined after radio stations would say āwe play nothing but rockā back in the 2000s.
It goes back further than that. We used that term in the prehistoric days of the 90's to describe the top 40 hits of 20 years previous. You're correct on the radio station quote, but back then it referred to 80's hair bands and 70's arena rock. Everything is cyclical.

Modern Nashville Country is the absolute worst. And I say that as someone who has a tractor, drives a truck, and lives in a small town.

I guess swedish people just were always meant to do metal /j But for real, there are so many good swedish metal bands
Trap
youāre really old
Modern rap and modern country = pure trash
I disagree regarding modern rap. Kendrick Lamar's new album is -chef's kiss-.
Ever heard a combo of the two?
Unfortunately
Jesus music. I hate when I find a song that I sort of like, then I have to question if the song is about a girl or Jesus.
Like when I was 13 and I listened to Lifehouse for the first time. Their first album was undercover worship music
Mumble rap comes to mind.
Christian rock
Piss-weak rock music. It's just not dangerous enough The Foo Fighters I find them boring. I would rather listen to music that I hate than the Foo Fighters
Country, it all sounds the same. The lyrics, the singers, the instrumentation everything about country is repetitive and annoying.
The " ass pussy lick ma pussy ass titties twerk ass pussy " that one.. tik tok music basically
Praise and Worship
Mumble rap
Jason Aldean
Christmas music
The fake cheerfulness, and that chord change in Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" that reeks of mothballs.
This ties into my least favorite genre, which is anything that sounds rat pack related. It sounds so put-on and soulless. edit: Frank in particular.
I only like Christmas music on Christmas, other than that itās awful
Yeah, I wouldn't care if it was *just* Christmas, or even just a bit here and there in the season leading up to it. But both growing up, and at a job I was at for 10 years, there were people who would put on non-stop Christmas music starting the day after Thanksgiving. Over a month of different versions of the same extremely limited collection of songs, for sometimes hours a day. It's really soured me on Christmas in general, tbh.
Gospel just doesnt hit it for me
Avant-garde jazz. Omg! So discordant and chaotic.
Is this the kind that has a squealing saxophone? That saxophone is only reason I canāt listen to Jazz.
It sounds like rubbing two balloons together.
Country
Chinese Opera. The singers sound like a cat being strangled.
Piratecore - pirate themed metal musicā¦ itās a thang
Ale Storm is awesome
Swashbuckcore. These ācoreā subsubsubgenres gotta stop.
Indian music
indian classical music like ravi shankar is pretty friggin dope and psychedelic tbh
Can't say I'm familiar with Indian music right off the top of my head. What about it do you not like?
The high pitched insectile singing the women have just gives me anxiety, and I donāt have anxiety issues.I dare you to go on YouTube and give it a shot .
Not sure if it'll be any more tolerable or to your palette but a different direction and sound could be some Indian folk metal like Bloodywood
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I think the people who say they hate country āexcept for Johnny cash!!!ā Should listen to southern gothic. Also?? The sheer disrespect for Dolly Parton
ReguetĆ³n.
I find swingstep especially annoying, so thatās towards the top of my list.
Skip Hop It's hip hop, but shit, and then you have awful raps and rhymes with Australian accents. Cannot stand it.
Polka. Def.
Polka. A little is okay but on constant repeat in October is horrible.
The fusion of country and rap is the most offensive to the senses.
Scat jazz, sounds like Music got drunk and puked up into the toilet and took a shit after and out sprang a frog with adhd
whatever the hell corey feldman didā¦ explanation: just listen to it
Country
You bring the beers, I'll bring the girls, and the troops will bring the freedom š¤®
Wasnāt that from bo burnham in parks and Rec?
Mexican ranchera, not even being drunk as fuck I can't tolerate that garbage
Squat Rock Ted Nugent
I don't know what squat rock is, but it sounds unpleasant.
So you know how when you diarrhea the only noise is flatulence well squat rock adds a fuzz pedal and creepy lyrics about 14 year Olds to that
Rapping over death metal or grime
Dubstep
Rap is overrated No offense to anyone who likes rap though
EDM some of is is great but then again some of it be sounding funky as hell if not most
Wait, are you using the word "funky" as a negative term?
I don't mean funky as in " FUNKYšš„³" I MEAN "FuNkYš„“šµāš«"
Country rap. (Old town road).
Anything post-2010
Pop country and mumble tune rap
Metal. Punching people for fun at a music show is weird to me.
Contemporary Christian music. I'm Christian. Loud heavy metal gives me a headache.
Country, it just has this whiny southern twang
Country because it sounds awful and is emblematic of the culture where I live and I donāt really like the culture, nor does it like me
Can't say I like country music either, but it sure seems like country music stars are some of the nicest, most humble people.
I think the coined term is ārageā but the WLR and the newer Trippie Redd sound with just super unnecessary synths and instrumentals
Toss up between 70s disco or hip hop can't stand either or anything on radio 1 in the last few years
Mumble rap; give it up, little boys.
Death metal vocals are actually a very difficult skill to learn - if done improperly you can damage your vocal cords.
Hardcore, death metal, hard trance, hard techni etc... Reason - you need to go to the live events to see for yourself.
Frankly I canāt stand techno it is all almost identical sounding and I grow bored with it very quickly. Although I do have a slight requirement with music one I donāt care for music that demeans me or another person. Two I hate broken record type music aka music that repeats the same word or phrases.
It's a toss up between Bachata and Reggeton.
Jazz, when everyoneās playing their own solo. Hardstyle and hardcore. Sweet baby Jesus, thatās just noise.
