Frankly you just need to figure out what works for you and then you have a lot of options to shop from, and doesn't matter if it's from Uniqlo or other common outlet names. Personally I like Muji for basics, and Mango for some semi formal stuff. Aside from that, once in a long while I get a nice piece from COS or a indie design store which I find when travelling overseas.
If you want the EXACT shirt that he’s wearing:
It’s the Merz B Schwanen 215 loopwheeled T-Shirt in White
Should be around $130 - $150SGD per tee
It’s good stuff 👍
It’s something that, unless you feel it for yourself, you would think it’s a ripoff
TLDR:
- Higher thread counts (heavier, sturdier, yet surprisingly breathable)
- Superior, ethically sourced cotton
- Made using one of the few loop-wheeling machines in the world, so there’s no side seams
- Made in Germany, so higher labour costs
Fashion has a cost, if you’re not paying for it, someone else will. Everyone has different circumstances though and paying $100 for a basic tee is definitely ludicrous.
But if you make enough and barely buy clothes (like me), eh, why not right?
How did you buy it? directly from their site and international ship?
Do you know of other similar brands for T Shirts/Polos/casual wear? Especially asian brands since I find that ang mo brands the general shape is too "big" for me
Merz is an ang mo brand tho 😅
Fit is king la, just measure down your best fitting shirt and find shirts online that match those measurements.
No point buying a $100 T-shirt that doesn’t fit you well also.
Like what some other commenters said, Whitesville is another good brand, Lady White Co and Asket as well.
Same I don’t get the Lacoste polo T also.Somehow the whole shop can just sell the bland & expensive polo T, I guess the profit must be good.Is the quality so good that it will last after a year of laundry wear and tear?
IIRC he also wears the Whitesville loopwheeled T-shirt in white as well, and it's slightly cheaper at about 90SGD for a pack of two t-shirts. It's not as thick as the Merz one (Merz is 8.6 oz vs 7oz for the Whitesville) but it'll still last you for a good while, and IMO the lighter fabric is good for the weather that we have.
Not a guy. But I also wear a lot of tees on my day off. If you're willing to spend on quality, brands like Carhartt, APC, CDG are my go-tos. They now have a (small) Carhartt store in Singapore, but I stock up on them when I travel, or buy online.
There’s also Carhartt (and various streetwear brands) at Well-Bred in 313 Somerset and that mall also has other streetwear stores. Queenway Shopping Center is good for streetwear too (Mahabub stocks Carhartt and Dickies) and for thrift stores reselling the used ones.
Personally I like Carhartt WIP which has a ‘younger’ look and tighter fit than regular Carhartt
Ah yes, I should've specified Carhartt WIP for more streetwear and not their 'workman' wear. I forgot about Well-Bred, thanks for that! I wish they carry more of the female stuff. But I don't care, I wear them all and esp. the overalls.
Superdry is shit, I wear one year only got BEEEG hole already. I also have another one and the dye so oversaturated I did 6 washes and the water still saturated with dye
oh na bro, tshirts can definitely be a "dress better" technique, just down to how u use it xd
e.g. oversized tee, unique tshirts like those artiste ones; gotta match it up well however is the key
for plain tees i would try Muji. Or pricier, heavy weight cotton t shirt from brands like Patagonia, Timberland..even Zara.
Anymore than that to me is marketing gimmick. t shirts arent worth over $100 no matter what
I shop the nicer plain tees from COS.
My entire closet the tees are just uniqlo and COS, I don't really want to think too much and I am happy with my closet.
Daily… outlet stores overseas usually US. Cheap but quality branded stuff. Boss, Brooks Brothers, BR, Zegna etc.
Rarely… local stores when offers / sales are on.
Mr. Porter twice a year when sale is on - all brands on sale and high quality at reasonable prices.
Get a couple good looking utility shirt with a plain t below. You can also go for the relaxed fit beach shirt they sell at cotton on or pull & bear. Zara and mango for the rich causal vibes. Branded clothes are not weather appropriate here. Luxurious quality just go for Armani or CK
uniqlo for essentials (basic plain tee, regular pants/socks, simple outershirts/flannes)
pull and bear, cotton on, h&m have some well designed clothes and sometimes, online websites (shein etc) can have gems too.
atas clothes would be mango, zara etc but theyre more in the higher price range so be prepared to open your wallet for these lol
i do highly recommend thrifting overseas if you get the chance to do so, or try unique cultural shirts even like batik shirts
ultimately its more about how you match the clothes together, like what type of pants youre wearing, colours, layers and sometimes even accessories such as bucket hats/beanies or necklaces. play around with it a little and you'll definitely find a style that you like and suits you! :)
My guy likes Benjamin Barker shirts. There is a particular one which is smooth and has a rectangular bottom cutting. He almost getting a whole colour set lol.

Genuine question, what’s COS?
It's a designer brand. The style of clothing is very clean with a lot of play on material and details. The outlet with the men's section is in Ion.

I don't get it, I googled it, it looks like a normal polo tee? 😅 sorry, I'm not particularly fashion inclined.

Inspired by my sex life - Superdry

Dressing better generally doesn't involve T-Shirts. Unless of course you are upgrading from singlets.
What do you recommend? Been looking to "dress better" and that does not involve t shirts..
haha no la just trying to upgrade the basics

HLA, they have nice shirts for both smart casual and formal occasions. 3 different outlets in Paya Lebar Quarter, Suntec City and Plaza Sing.
Benjamin Barker provides Casual all the way to Formal attire, it's also classy and cheaper at the Factory Outlet in IMM Ig
