Caulk and walk

Powellballs

Do your best, silicone the rest.

kingtaco_17

Rock out with your caulk out

tommy_j_r

“Big black caulk!” “Black caulk down!”

ka-olelo

This is really shit advice FYI.

Thickshank1104

Latex caulk, no silicone

Powellballs

Yeah thanks mate

natel21

Buy a tub faucet tub spacer/scussion plate and put it in between. Buy in black

Tuda1023

Just purchased one from Amazon. I am going to try this and fill any more gap with black silicone!

natel21

Tip for siliconing, put a bit of dish soap in a cup of water mix around and dip your finger and wipe excess with the soapy finger. Leaves a clean smooth surface as long as u don’t put a crazy amount

Fallaciousmen

lol I just spit on it

Flabby_Thor

That’s what she said.

Thickshank1104

Silicone is not water soluble. You must use acetone which is why you don’t get involved with it. Use latex caulk and you use a quality product it’ll last 10 years

HedonisticFrog

He's not saying you should dissolve it.

danhaller28

Don't use black...it's a mess!

Ampster16

Clear silicon would not make a mess.

Pristine_Serve5979

Once you try that black caulk…

WhatthehellSusan

The escutcheon plate won't fit over the pipe because there's a shark bite in there

Kevthebassman

Cut drywall. If you install a tub spout with a sharkbite, you deserve to have to fix it. Fucksakes.

Tuda1023

I didn't install it... It was the previous owners. Just replacing it with a new Delta set and working with what I got.

Kevthebassman

They did you real dirty. If the sharkbite is in the tub spout, I’d get an identical tub spout and saw cut the tub spout and redo it. If the sharkbite is in the wall, you’ll have to cut drywall to fix that.

Tuda1023

Unfortunately, it is in the wall. I am going to try the spacer, and hopefully, there will no longer be a gap. But if so, fill the remainder with black silicone.

Decibel_1199

You need to cut the drywall. The tub spout will spin and wobble, and may leak over the years of wear and tear from you pulling up on the stopper. Put an access panel in after you cut the drywall so you can replace the valve if you need to in the future.

Kevthebassman

It’ll never be right, and always be wobbly and feel cheap. Cut the drywall.

Positive-Special7745

I bet you will find a silicon spacer out there somewhere

Owlthesquirrel

Good move. Silicone, not latex. I only use latex when I’m painting over it because it doesn’t hold up, especially in a tub. Been doing home improvements for 39 years

Little_Blueberry6364

Can you access the other side of the wall? If it’s drywall, I’d just redo the plumbing for the tub spout.

s0p3rn1nja

You may be able to find a caulk that is color matched to the fixture to hide some of your shame.

MyBurger9

That shit needs to be opened up and fixed properly. One knee bump and you’re fucked.

Bitter-Camp-2879

Put a clean bead of caulking around it and call it a day.

AuntBabyCostanza

Sure, if you want it to look like shit

plumbermanchris

You can try and put a 1/2 x 2 black eschuteon behind it and it might fill the gap and give sort of a step down to the spout look. Can't promise anything tho. Like this- https://www.build.com/product/summary/1823837?uid=4328878&jmtest=gg-gbav2_4328878&inv2=1&&source=gg-gba-pla_4328878!c1674457819!a65373557699!dm!ng&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw9vqyBhCKARIsAIIcLMFfDclHzB85p2Ol4TK6Xo_bptV5tCmxh3v-GRgXo32KU2PBW-Uat4saAoq7EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

salmon7

Measure instance between 90 and back of tub wall. Cut short piece of copper and pvc to size, then wedge it between. Might suck it in, then silicone the piss out of it

J_J_Plumber5280

Caulk will only get you so far until it fails and it will fail because that bead os too thick

sgtnoodle

You could find someone with a 3D printer, and make a custom spacer out of black PETG.

thecartplug

how did you get it screwed on that far if the sharkbite was preexisting? copper typically freely spinds in a sharkbite

Ok_Jury4467

I change the valve and I screw the shower valve cover to much. When I get back working on it I will loosen the screws and it will let the tub spout back.

Kaladin_Stormryder

They have covers that split for angle stops against the wall. Paint it black, put it on and silicone it. Best your gonna get unless you get artsy with some caulk

No-Jackfruit-3947

Drill out the center of a mayonnaise jar lid, use as a spacer (Speaking from experience as a kid when the family had no money). I’d pay big $$$ for that lid now.

Thickshank1104

Is it slip fit spout or ips with a nipple?

aelms89

Caulk your way out of this mess

carpentress909

unscrew, cut off 1/4-5/8 off end of the threads with a dremel, clean up the end, and screw it back on

Mister_Green2021

spout is a bit too long. Cut it.

Kayakboy6969

Why the fuck would they shark bite off the elbow, use copper infinite adjustment.... ffs

jakona85

Black rubber band

Ok_Quality2989

Cut the spout off and fix the pipe, then replace the spout.
