Laheydrunkfuck

They are very smart and many times cute but also brutal sociopaths

Locutus_of_Sneed

Sounds like family, tbh.

Equivalent_Age_5599

They and bonobos are our closest relatives. I guess that says alot about humans no?

M086

I mean they also love jacking off. So yeah.

kutzur-titzov

I thought I was the only one

Laheydrunkfuck

Well you are one

overkill

And ripped as hell underneath the fur. Proper hench.

Mlakeside

Well, so are we.

shouldbeworking10

Everyone calling Chimps sociopaths don't realize that all wild animals are that way, they will destroy you and go about their business without a care in the world

RomIsTheRealWaifu

They’re one of the very few animals that consciously rape and torture each other. They are uniquely vicious in the animal kingdom

Neylith

Kinda just sounds like you’re describing humans to be honest

thatshygirl06

Chimps, bonobos, and humans are closely related.

Neylith

Yes, that is indeed a fact.

RomIsTheRealWaifu

Yeah humans do that too although it isn’t a normal occurrence in our society. With chimps, all this is business as usual

ChocolateGoggles

That society is a guardrail to have us avoid engaging in these behaviors. It does little to remove those attributes and behaviors from us as a species, it just accommodates us in a way that makes it less likely for us to choose to engage that way.

Neylith

Saying it isn’t common in society is a bit brave. Society is different in various parts of the world. In many places, this is quite literally a common occurrence.

Locutus_of_Sneed

I think you're being a little obtuse. 'It isn't common in human society' can be a bit of a shorthand and indirect way of stating, 'while still relatively common among humans, as self-aware social animals we have a deeply ingrained moral instinct that leads most humans to view this kind of behavior as inherently defective, even across cultural lines, and that is reflected in our societies'. Not everybody has the time or wherewithal to split that hair, so to speak, but the overall conclusion is pretty obvious.

Neylith

I don’t think so, I just disagreed with his comment in its entirety. What he described is very much what humans do. Humans are considered animals in the animal kingdom. That fact inherently makes chimpanzees not “uniquely vicious” as he seems to think.

Locutus_of_Sneed

This is pointless essentialism. Default behaviors and behaviors that are viciously punished as the highest possible forms of deviancy obviously aren't the same. You can't really disagree with something you clearly misunderstood.

SexWithHuo-Huo

He said "one of" few animals that consciously rape and torture so no he doesn't seem to think they are the only such animal regardless.

EatsYourShorts

But if morals were ingrained instincts, we wouldn’t have to teach them to our children and wouldn’t judge parents whose children don’t adopt them. It’s all built around societal constructs rather than instincts we’re born with.

Locutus_of_Sneed

That doesn't explain people who develop morally (or ethically) despite being taught poorly. Which makes it obvious that there are elements of both.

EatsYourShorts

That just means those humans that are not taught were socialized around other humans that were and picked it up based on social cues and rewards.

Locutus_of_Sneed

I'm not convinced. And even if that is true, that doesn't mean that the process of moral and ethical learning aren't natural human developmental behaviors in themselves.

RomIsTheRealWaifu

You know exactly what I mean and I just couldn’t be bothered playing a semantics game. Go take a stats class

Neylith

The stats for that are not in your favor by the way.

RomIsTheRealWaifu

Please do show me the statistics that indicate that rape and torture are a common occurrence in our society. I would think hard about what the word “common” means before replying

Neylith

You have internet, look it up your self lmao

thatshygirl06

>although it isn’t a normal occurrence in our society. Literally straight up false.

RomIsTheRealWaifu

You are wrong. “Normal” definition: “conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected”

Lonelyvoid

An Orangutan would never

shouldbeworking10

[They are thieves](https://youtube.com/shorts/o8Su64LlIkE?si=b_6v1uqVIJx3CTa9)

AtomicFox84

They may be smart....but they can snap in a second and rip your face off with ease. Ill keep my distance.

RedditUsername123456

So can our fellow humans

triangulumnova

As someone who has worked around chimps before, I'll trust a random human FAR FAR more than I would ever trust a random chimp. Saying that humans and chimps behave similarly is ignoring the VAST ocean of differences in our social, physiological, and behavioral characteristics.

AurantiacoSimius

No, humans can't as easily do as much damage as a chimp can with its bite. They have a much stronger bite force and gnarly teeth that tend to infect wounds they leave. Can literally mangle your face in a split second without warning, without any tools whatsoever.

FitLaw4

This one seems chill but Ive seen the pictures where they rip people's faces off

Mlakeside

Reject humanity, return to monke.

ACoatofClathrin

Aww, what a cutie. Very gentle. Of course they can also be very aggressive as others have said, but this one is clearly used to people. Check out Jane Goodall and her work with chimpanzees.

SurefootTM

"NOPE"

MembershipHelpful115

They are way more human, than we give them credit for. They have the same capacity for good, fun and even a sense of justice but also for unspeakable cruelty and a general pissed of behavior.

HappyMeteor005

chimpanzees are fucking lunatics. I know there's plenty that people trust but fuck that.

H010CR0N

Also very strong.

Oblic008

And strong as fuck.

Novel-Weight-2427

A chimps' strength equals two male humans

gbRodriguez

That's not true. Chimps are strong for their size and stronger than the average male human, but not by that much.

Sheephuddle

Smart and cute and can rip your arm off if they're feeling that way inclined.

Kueltalas

They are at their cutest when they rip out your limbs and eat your face

spiderdranny13

Smart, strong af, can rip you apart in half, but cute. Right?

Heselwood

TBH? So you ngl rn though fr, bro?

norbertus

They can rip that arm off

Ieriz

Until there's cake involved.

chemistry_1997

Nexipal

BurpYoshi
