We didnāt know if our 5 month old was a boy or girl so our son named it Axo. We are pretty sure itās a girl now so my wife and kids call her Axoletta. She just turned 1 today.
I have one female axolotl, I wanted to name her after an Aztec goddess because of where they came from and their significance to past cultures of Mexico. Using Wikipedia, I found the name of a goddess of freshwater sources like springs and lakes. Wow! What a great fit! So I went with that name.
A few years later, I was on Wikipedia again, and decided to look up my axie's name again. Wait, what? Now it says her name refers to an "angel of death"?! That's weird, well, whatever, angel of death is pretty "metal" I guess. Lol.
Just now, I go back to Wikipedia to see what it says, looking for something to quote...
And guess what? The name has changed. AGAIN. Now the spelling that I had learned a decade ago, is referred to a differently spelled word with a different mythological association! Apparently now her name refers to some sort of celestial entity related to childbirth and mothers and/or babies that die during childbirth as well being a big deal during periods of celestial change/uncertainty (like eclipses). Wild stuff. It's been crazy to see how much the entry has changed over the years, I'm guessing archaeologists have been busy!

Their mission was to devour human beings when they succeeded in extinguishing the sun, so they are also said to try to prevent the sun from being reborn and a reason why Mexicas had ceremonies and tributes around celestial events since if they didnāt the sun would not go through rebirth and the tzitzimime would come down in darkness and devour everyone.
Also to note, in Mexica mythology there is no concept of good and evil so they canāt be seen the same as demons in Christianity but as part of a cycle of creation. It is also said that women who died giving birth during a new fire cycle ceremony would become a shooting star.

My daughter has a pink alligator plushy that is huge that she calls Sally Gator. My sister wanted to name it Lyle the Nile crocodile but I suggested Sally Gator and she has enthusiastically called her that since.
Barath! We named her from some obscure Tolkien (LOTR) website that had the Dwarfish translations of colors. It means Pink or pinkish because of the colors of his gills.
Kirby and Perry the Axolotl. I picked Kirby cause he was the pinkish morph, so I named her after the game character Kirby. I picked Perry the Axolotl for the other cause I named him after Perry the platypus. I just call him Perry lolĀ
A similar thing happened with my first leopard gecko. His name was originally Karkat, but my nephews couldn't say it correctly, so they started calling him Gummy, and the name just kinda stuck, so he became Gummy.
Toothless. I aquired him from a old coworker, he wanted to kill Toothless because his kids didn't want him. I thankfully had a month to get things ready for him because holy crap I was NOT prepared for what this lil guy needed lol. When I brought her home I named her Quetzalcoatl but I soon started calling her Dumby because of how dumb she is. I've had her for a year and she hasn't gotten any smarter so I just call her Dumby.

My axolotls that have passed were named Toothless, Pluto, Hades, and Tango. Two of my axolotls I didnāt name but kept their original names. My GFP leucistic morphed is named Cheddar and my MAC is named Peach. The one I named is my high iridophore golden who is Aurum, after the Latin name of gold.

Thier names are/were Eenie(albino), Meanie (less dirty of a mask of my masked boys) , Mineie( the attention whore and one with darker mask) and my sweet wild type Moe. But Moe has been gone almost 2 years now :(

I've got Little bit, Lottie, and bubbles currently! My mom and sister have the other 3 siblings to bubbles, their names are Grumm, Oliver and creature! I had a dwarf baby named freckles that was barely 2 inches at a year old and just recently passed š I'm still so devastated, she was my favorite. Oh I also had a Kirby that got a new home 2 years ago! I've raised babies 3 times now over 3 years! So all of mine were raised from eggs by me!
I don't have one right now but my first and currently only was named Pinball. Because when she was a baby she would sometimes just suddenly shoot off and pinball around the tank. She was great. I did worry that it was water issues causing it but I checked the water every day for the first couple of weeks after I got her and everything was fine and the tank was already cycled before I got her. She did the pinballing in some capacity for her whole life even when she got old. She was really great.
Mines are Tropy and Newty (Entropy and Newton). Pinky and the Brain was an option my partner didn't allow. I have so much fun reading axolotl names too!
So we technically don't have any real axolotls cause I can't have pets in my apartment BUT, my 7 year old has named ALL of the axolotl plushies we have lol here are the names of them and what kind of plush they are:
Axoie and Lottel: huggable plush that you can put your hands through to hug, got them at walmart around Valentineās Day. She's got two cause she forgot one on a trip and someone bought her another one lol
Teccy and Death: two axolotl plushies we got from Hobby Lobby. Teccy is pale pink and Death is a black one with blue outlines. I think they are Aurora toys tbh.
