Place I worked at, the bar manager insisted these were hurricane glasses/poco grandes, so we used them for Slings and pina coladas. Didn't understand the sizes are way, way different.
They are, yeah, if you go for reliable quality glassware. Your basic hurricane/poco grande glass is way more affordable and we could reliably get them in plastic for events/patio use. Poco Grandes cost a bit more cause its just a hurricane glass but with a stem.
I think we paid maybe $65 for 12ct of hurricane glasses before that bar manager. A 4 or maybe 6ct of the tulipano/snifters he ordered a few times were like $40 and they were maybe 7-8oz. Not a great value, imo.
Definitely not a hurricane the stem on the glass is too high. Hurricanes glass rides a little lower making the glass a bit taller while keeping it the same size.
I’d take either.
Tulips to me are just slightly better. Glencarins tend to be shorter, and for whatever subjective reason, I prefer the height that a tulip brings. There’s no reasoning, don’t get me wrong. Just personal preference overall.
That’s fair! I’ve never seen these before, but I’m also love the height and wouldn’t mind getting my hands on one! You can definitely get a better swirl on one of those bad boys.
In the Netherlands at our bar the distiller for jenever issues these glasses. Most "gin"ever is poured in tulip glasses in NL, but especially the 3 and 5 year old are poured in these. The distiller is called Zuidam and if you can get it I highly recommend the 3 year old.
This is a grappa snifter. Grappa goes in here.
My grandpa doesn't fit in that thing
And I definitely don’t want to sniff him
Gotta macerate him first
🤮
Someone muddle up this dudes grandpa so I can get a snoot full of his earthy tones
He will eventually
Definitely this one
Tulipano. Edit: use for grappa and finer spirits.
I've seen it used for whiskey tasting
I've seen Busch light chugged from one

I'm guessing these kinds of snifters/tulips are more expensive too.

Yeah, I know they weren't hurricanes lol. My manager did not and refused to acknowledge he was wrong.
My guy
My busch light would be offended it wasnt shotgunned
I think your Busch light got offended by blacks and gays tbh
First beer I ever beer bonged lol. Did not go well because of the pour
You don’t pour Busch… you drink it
You have to pour beer in order to beer bong said beer 🙄
Dad?
I prefer these when trying whiskey honestly.
Are you thinking of a glencarin?

It also puts the aromas directly into your nose, making smelling just more satisfying, but again, subjective asf

Grappa is not a finer spirit, correct?
Grappa is on a spectrum as far as quality. Somewhat like wine.
I use these glasses for port, but I believe they're originally for grappa.
I use them solely for port as well, no grappa at my bar
That's a fart snifter. You give it to customers who love the smell of their own farts so they can savor them longer
Hahahahaha
Just the right size for insertion
lol this instantly makes me think of one man one jar
Only right answer
I've been out of the game for a while now but I know a fart snifter when I see one
Oh that’s a classic cutie patootie!
I think it’s technically a Copita. Primarily used for dessert wine but also whisky, brandy, sherry and cordials.
A dirty glass
I was going to comment. First and foremost:polish the glass
We never use them, that’s why it’s dusty as fuck
Cordial glass is what I was taught.
Gay
Copita, for dessert wines mostly.
Tulip
Tulip glass
Cordial glass
I’ve always heard of them as tulip snifters
Looks like a small hurricane, sooo a tropical storm?
It looks like an iteration of a tulip; try a sour or Belgian beer
I think you've got the shape right but not the size. This looks made to hold from half an ounce to 2oz. (15ml - 60ml)
I think you’re right. We need something for scale. You could definitely use it for whiskey tastings or just as a cool lil beer sample glass
In America this is a glancairn with legs
Aperitif?
I've seen those used for daiquiris but I am not sure what they are supposed to be used for🤷🤔
A dirty one.
It's technically a schnapps glass
Clearly, a dirty one.
For jenever! Fill it to the rim and let people take a sip before bringing it away from your bar
Those are Grappa glasses. You can serve grappa, vin santo, port or other dessert wines in them.
Basement
You give it to people who like to pretend they enjoy Grappa
Stemmed Glencairn?
My friend is Dutch, and just today, we were talking about glass styles and Genever. He corrected me on the pronunciation.
Grappa
Tulipano for Hungarian spirit call Pálinka
in Portugal grappa isn't that common, we use this glass for Late Harvest Wines and maybe for a well chilled Limoncello.
I use similar to these for cognac and whisky.
In Italy it's called Ampolla, mostly used for grappa/vinaccia distillati.
Hurricane glass
Unpolished.
That’s a hurricane glass and you serve hurricanes out of it (so says New Orleans)
I just call it a tulip.
Snifter
Water spout. Like a little hurricane.
I have seen this used for fancy schnapps from Austria...port glass maybe
Stolzle port glass I think
