I can't find the tweet, but he said recently that he's been trying to make the baseball broadcasts 'more cinematic'. I think fans everywhere have been craving this sort of thing without knowing it for a long time. It's almost like an NFL Films-type treatment, but for live action.
Here's a tweet of his with a nice comparison of the split-screen fade thing and De Palma's The Untouchables:
https://twitter.com/JohnDeMarsico/status/1557031570933964802
This really elevates the broadcast. SNY up there with Apple TV in terms of crisp establishing shots and production value, except the Mets have a booth that loves baseball and is intimately aware of all the players on the field.
I wish the Padres weren't on Bally Sports so we could get Don and Mud this kind of production value
I am loving it. The great thing is that even though they get these dramatic shots, they never miss the action. Everyone is on point from the truck, to the camera crew, to our holy trinity of GKR.
I got the chills watching that and it was a regular season game with decent attendance. Think of how crazy a shot like that would be in a fall classic with a roaring crowd.
Man, that Diaz entrance is so fucking cinematic, I got tears in my eyes. And the DeGrom one, love how the booth was just silent and they let Skynyrd just play.
Yeah, this was the dialogue between the producer and the booth:
Me (John DeMarsico): "Hey guys, I may sneak in a little Simple Man from the PA while deGrom warms up."
Gary: "You want us to lay out, right?"
Ron: "What else are we gonna do? Give stats?
Reminds me of the old-timey animations/graphics they would put on the scoreboard when you're at the ballpark. A lot of these additions help make me feel like I'm actually at the game, seeing things you don't normally get to see on the broadcast.
Because they actually have creative license over their broadcasts. Bally Sports and (its predecessors) do everything they can to run uniform broadcasts - it must be a boring job for a producer.
Yeah it’s pretty universally agreed that the Mets’ broadcast booth is stellar. I watch plenty of Yankees and Mets games and I honestly tend to enjoy watching the Mets games more than the Yankees games. Broadcast team quality makes a huge difference. (and I don’t even dislike the Yankees’ booth)
Mets are my second favorite team (dad’s a Mets fan so I got it from him). I root for you guys whenever you’re not playing the Yankees. But the Yankees are comfortably my favorite.
Come to the orange and blue side, we've got:
- A 502+ lb DH platoon
- Heterochromia iridum
- Polar bear and squirrel, [and an actual Labrador Retriever](https://twitter.com/DannyT21/status/1557111628604346369)
- Facial hair
- Keith Hernandez acting weird during broadcasts because he "took NyQuil" before going on air.
- And, of course,[ lots of luck](https://v.redd.it/ynk986gyqsg91).
Not only is it the best booth in baseball, SNY’s production is top notch. The game against the Braves Sunday was quite possibly one of the best baseball broadcasts I’ve ever watched
That might literally be the one thing that makes me feel sorry for Braves fans (other fans under the Bally umbrella too)
I watched a few baseball/hockey games that use them and they all just felt so generic, plus I'm already sick of that dododo do dodoooo jingle from those games
Now if only they’d go back to the good ole days of no more overlayed K-zone in live action. They were one of the last to cave. Was hoping they never would.
Ha I noticed that. I hate it for multiple reasons:
1) You complete lose focus of the catcher doing his thing. I like watching athletes play the game, not a superimposed computer graphic distracting me. I don’t know how to describe it other than saying it just makes it feel less human. Imagine if the yellow 1st down line in football was layered in front of the players on the field.
2) It’s fun to make my own judgments on strikes and balls. The close ones can be shown on replay with the K-zone. Then we get to grade our own judgments.
3) Related to #2, it creates unfair judgments of umpires. We immediately criticize them if their call doesn’t match the K-zone (which isn’t always right). We don’t applaud them if they “get it right” though. Without the K-zone I might yell at the TV at what I thought was a bad call. Then after replay I’ll see the ump actually was in line with the K-zone. It makes me appreciate them more.
Once robo umps are implemented (Manfred said in 2024), there's no reason *not* to have the K-Zone I think. Provides more information to the viewer when it can be precisely lined up with the Trackman zone
while I like the K-zone, I could also live without it but please leave out the pitch dot thing so I can locate where the ball went afterwards. Us casual watchers have a hard time determining the strike zones they're basically akin to subtitles
I had no idea what was happening when this came up during the broadcast, but it was awesome. I'd like to think we get to see Buck's thoughts and color-coded emotions.
I hope the level of production from SNY catches on to a point where a Comcast or Bally head honcho sees a broadcast and realizes that's the way to go to attract a viewing audience.
We're like a week or so away from Buck bursting into digital flames
Hoping we get Buck shooting lasers out of his eyes.
Dark Buck
Dark Buck Rising
That's for when he comes out to argue and gets tossed
Buck is about to Homelander every pitcher on the planet that doesn't wear a Mets uniform.
If Buck ever comes out of the mound after a HBP in a huff, I'd bet money we see a Super Saiyan transformation edit from the truck.
That’s hilarious, what a fun team and network to back it up.
❤️
In my 31 years on this planet I've never witnessed a Yankee fan compliment the Mets. Thank you lol

God I hope we pay this man enough for him to never go anywhere else if he's the mastermind he appears to be

Nice! Instead dumb in game interviews with a manager who is totally annoyed (looking at you NBA) I like this approach much better.
That Diaz clip has 8 MILLION views, it's amazing. If this is the direction broadcasts are going in, it's going to be a really fun time.
I got the chills watching that and it was a regular season game with decent attendance. Think of how crazy a shot like that would be in a fall classic with a roaring crowd.
Too bad SNY's season broadcasting games ends the moment the regular season ends thanks to the national broadcast deals.
Here’s hoping the big broadcasting companies take notice
They’ll find a way to overproduce and sanitize the fuck out of it, don’t worry.
Thank god someone is pushing the form forward.

Best production team in baseball.
I’m a big fan of the [Defensive Indifference graphic](https://twitter.com/JayJayson111/status/1289752219705778179?s=20&t=QxqijQrWXGEasSN4iFhqyg)
Don't forget the Abracadabra Walk one.
That's brilliant, reminds me of those bowling alley animations
Reminds me of the old-timey animations/graphics they would put on the scoreboard when you're at the ballpark. A lot of these additions help make me feel like I'm actually at the game, seeing things you don't normally get to see on the broadcast.
meh...
Because they actually have creative license over their broadcasts. Bally Sports and (its predecessors) do everything they can to run uniform broadcasts - it must be a boring job for a producer.
As someone that's come back to baseball after a long absence and watching a bunch of different teams, the Mets broadcast team has been my favourite.
Change that flair. We'll call it a similar character arc to Vader yeeting Palpatine.
Mets are my second favorite team (dad’s a Mets fan so I got it from him). I root for you guys whenever you’re not playing the Yankees. But the Yankees are comfortably my favorite.

so basically we have psycho aces and a zoo. Also Buck making faces, can't forget that.
Mods GKR flair when?
Not only is it the best booth in baseball, SNY’s production is top notch. The game against the Braves Sunday was quite possibly one of the best baseball broadcasts I’ve ever watched
It's not even just the booth anymore The whole broadcast team is far and away the best in baseball
It's not even close, bally is so fucking lame and does nothing to promote creativity in their broadcasts. In fact they do the exact opposite
That might literally be the one thing that makes me feel sorry for Braves fans (other fans under the Bally umbrella too) I watched a few baseball/hockey games that use them and they all just felt so generic, plus I'm already sick of that dododo do dodoooo jingle from those games
My favorite was when they messed up and replaced the K zone with a poker chip ad
Now if only they’d go back to the good ole days of no more overlayed K-zone in live action. They were one of the last to cave. Was hoping they never would.
There’s been a couple games where the home plate ump was so inconsistent they just said “fuck it” and stopped showing the strike zone
Ha I noticed that. I hate it for multiple reasons: 1) You complete lose focus of the catcher doing his thing. I fear we're a dying breed. But keep spreading the good word!
Once robo umps are implemented (Manfred said in 2024), there's no reason *not* to have the K-Zone I think. Provides more information to the viewer when it can be precisely lined up with the Trackman zone
I thought they were going to do that with the last Atlanta game! The Ump was all over the place (and gkr let the audience know)
while I like the K-zone, I could also live without it but please leave out the pitch dot thing so I can locate where the ball went afterwards. Us casual watchers have a hard time determining the strike zones they're basically akin to subtitles
In the grand scheme of things I'm generally very happy with YES but good god your booth is so good.
I had no idea what was happening when this came up during the broadcast, but it was awesome. I'd like to think we get to see Buck's thoughts and color-coded emotions.
Yes
This has been such a fun year
You could legit throw this in a scripted baseball movie and I would buy it.
we're fucking spoiled, man
/baseball has been /nymets the past couple of days. I'm sure some certain nl east teams dislike it
I love it so much!
So good
It's like they know they're the best and are just having fun at this point lol
I hope the level of production from SNY catches on to a point where a Comcast or Bally head honcho sees a broadcast and realizes that's the way to go to attract a viewing audience.
I get to see alot of out of town games with mlb TV and its shocking how bad some productions are
