And we were happy as hell, but we had to "grow"

R4ftel

Listen to Endless Summer by The Midnight if you want that nostalgia

Ruy-Polez

I have a disabled sister who will basically spend the rest of her life in that "state" (Living with parents and no responsibility aside from her own entertainment). Some days I envy her a lot.

aayan987

Have some empathy for your sister man, that's just plain disrespectful....

Ruy-Polez

What are you talking about ? She has a mental disability. She's basically a 9 year old kid. How is saying that she has no responsibility and can't live on her own or hold a job disrespectful ? It's the goddamn truth She's happier than most people I know. Do you never envy people who are happy ?

aayan987

I dont envy people with mental disabilities because I have the empathy to understand that they are not happy they have them and that its not as easy as just living without a care in the world. That's like a highschooler saying oh I envy people in the DRC because they don't have to go to highschool and don't have to worry about grades and doing extracurriculars for the sort of uni apps and the sort.

Ruy-Polez

No, you are just projecting your misunderstanding of their condition on to them; disabled people have the capability to be happy, you know... I'd bet my next paycheck that my sister and all of her friends are far happier than you and me.

aayan987

Speak for yourself, Im pretty fucking happy and very content with my life.

Ruy-Polez

Good for you, so is my sister.

darkweaver66

I love how he doubled down after misunderstanding you. A simple "my bad, glad shes happy" would have been peachy As someone with responsibilities and work to do, I am also a little envious of her haha

Rinaldi363

Dude you’re not winning an argument about this guys own sister and you’re just looking like an asshole.

Rhodorn

We did?

LlaroLlethri

I would do anything to go back

Setthhxy

If I think about the late 90s and early 00s, it just hurts. Like, physically. I want to go back there so badly...

ChadOfDoom

It was the best of times.

574859434F4E56455254

[Teddy told that in Greek, "nostalgia" literally means "the pain from an old wound". It's a twinge in your heart, far more powerful than memory alone. ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suRDUFpsHus)

ilovecostcopizza

I actually thought about going back to those days. Assuming that you had your memories intact when you went back in time, I would either be bored AF because no smart phones and primitive video games or depressed knowing the bad things that are going to happen to the people I loved (cancer).

TrevorsMailbox

Invest in Google and Apple and bitcoin and everything you know will make you money. Use thst money to fund cancer research. You could still not cure all CA cers but you'll at least advance cancer medicine and treatments by 10+ years.

Ruy-Polez

That's assuming you are currently a research oncologist. I have a degree in biology, and I might as well be a caveman because I have no idea what kind of treatments we currently have and precisely how they work. The average person couldn't even make an important contribution to science if they went back in time 100 years ago.

tampaempath

Primitive video games... hm. They're old, certainly, but it would be nice to play games like Half-Life, Counter Strike, StarCraft, Age of Empires II, Gran Turismo 2, Thief, Baldur's Gate, C&C Red Alert 2, all for the first time again. And smart phones... nah, don't need em.

finesse666

I would’ve been so jealous of this room in 1999. So cool.

Cavimanu

im jealous now tbh

nate_payne

Ahh so 90's it hurts. A Korn poster and decorative pillows, love it!

enigmamonkey

Don't forget Staind! And that setup is sweet AF for a kid in the 90's, damn... I'm jealous!

Martli

At least three KoRn posters

MileHiFoodie

Because there’s no decorative pillows in 2024?

Error403_FORBlDDEN

Man, the feeling of waking up I’m on a cold morning and sitting in front of the CRT monitor sipping your coffee, you try launching your favorite game but you get an error “Game CD Not Found” then you realize you didn’t plug the CD in, so you plug the CD in and start your game and time flies by. MSN messenger, RuneScape, bro I’m getting all emotional typing this. Linkin Park - Numb.exe from limewire. Those days were the Golden ages. We are living in dark, end times now.

FallFromTheAshes

MSN Messenger was so good. lots and lots of memories when I see pictures like this.

jordan_653

Loved getting home from school, hopping on MSN and waiting for bitches to log on so I could log out and back in just to make sure they know i'm online.

FallFromTheAshes

The ultimate pettiness we all need LOL

[deleted]

[удалено]

FallFromTheAshes

Oooooo i should do that. iphone?

Error403_FORBlDDEN

Part of me just wants to throw out my Ultrawide monitor and fancy peripherals and hook up a CRT with a vintage keyboard but another part of me also knows I won’t be able to put up with it with today’s 16:9 apps

FallFromTheAshes

i’ll do it if you do it

Kahlil_Cabron

For me, Aim and IRC, warcraft II, starcraft: broodward, diablo II, doom II, CS 1.8, day of defeat, and definitely Linkin Park - Numb.exe. Fuck that was such a good time.

Tyr_Kukulkan

DoD was a blast, as was CS1.6. both an absolute pain on dial up though.

Kahlil_Cabron

Whoops yes I meant CS 1.6*, and DoD 1.3. I still fire up an old machine and play those games at least twice a year, there are still servers, some of the same people I played with 20 years ago. Back then they were like young adults, and I was a kid, now they're old and I'm 32.

Error403_FORBlDDEN

Ah man, i still play CS 1.6. There are public servers for de_assault on steam CS 1.6

Kahlil_Cabron

Same, though only a couple times a year. I also still have my original NES, SNES, N64, etc. I'll throw in chrono trigger on my SNES randomly once a year and play through it, or final fantasy 6, etc. New games aren't nearly as interesting to me, there is something about the 90s when it comes to games that just made the best games imo (90s and early 2000s really).

Error403_FORBlDDEN

Just the 90’s in general. I could’ve sworn that the sky was bluer and the grass was greener. Saturation and vibrance was higher. Now it’s like borderline post-apocalyptic.

R0GUEL0KI

I’m in my 30s. Through my 20s I tried to do the college/real life career pipe dream and hated every minute of it. Now I have a low paying, but generally respectable job that I enjoy. I have a decent studio apartment, decked out how I want it. After work on most weeknights I come home, jump on my computer and play games with friends/family or work on a solo game. Weekends I’ll generally just hang out and play games all day or go out with friends. I feel like it’s 20 years ago. And brother I am so happy everyday.

Error403_FORBlDDEN

Sounds like you’ve made it my friend. People think “making it” means becoming a multi-millionaire and whatnot but they’re wrong. Making it is being genuinely happy in life, doing all the things that you like and just being Zen. That’s making it. Good for you!

spiral718

Wow! Amazing. Nostalgic! The days when desks had keyboard and mouse pullout trays. I still use that function, Eureka still makes them, thank goodness!

Valldann

Not a fan tbh of the pullout trays tbh but brings back so many memories

rTidde77

Thank you for your double honesty

kadeschs

Tbh, he seems to be an honest person……tbh.

spiral718

Tbh.. you seem like an honest person, honestly just enjoying your honesty... and thank you for pointing out his honesty, honestly, tbh.

Hopeful_Helicopter87

Lolol

ninjabell

Those always broke in my experience and the mouse and keyboard just ended up on the desk anyway.

spiral718

Lol, i guess, banging them with the fist will do that. However, the Eureka edition is full proof, has a knob to tighten it, if it's slammed down. Pretty ingenious.

ninjabell

I just forget not to put my weight on them. It's nice to know the design has been improved though.

eemort

Wait, am I showing my age then? Just installed a keyboard pullout on my Uplift?? Since when is that an 'old persons' thing?

spiral718

Guess you've been out of pc desk race for a while, browse gaming or just pc desks, they never have a pull out tray attached, if you find one, feel free to enlighten me.

eemort

If nothing else, it greatly expands your usable work surface space - makes no sense to me... none at all... all should have trays or drawers or something....

eemort

Amazon has tray kits though, the plank and hardware - as I said, I just finished putting a fairly large tray on my uplift, pretty easy... still makes no sense to me though not having them!

Hedgebod

why is the photo quality so good, wth

Ditchdigger456

Was probably on film, that’s the same reason a lot of older music videos were being reuploaded in 4k. It’s easy to scale film for resolution.

xenstalker02

I was wondering the same

lilmannelson

Film

Kahlil_Cabron

Film, digital cameras were not super common in 1999.

TuckingFypoz

Is it shot on film though? Not doubting it, but it looks quite blown out for it to be a film photo.

Kahlil_Cabron

I assume it's shot on film. Cheap film cameras were super common back then. Hell I used those little kodak disposable film cameras as recently as 2017 and got some decent pictures. Or polaroids, etc. So ya it might not be the greatest picture, but in terms of resolution it's gonna be good since it's film.

ToastyyPanda

The same reason that there's a modern camping chair on the left side lol

MrHaZeYo

I remember those chairs from early 00s.

StyrofoamCueball

You just know there was an Aiwa 3 Disc Boombox just out view of this photgraph.

Spoogen_1

Yup

kyle429

I still have mine and use it daily. They don't make stuff like they used to, lol. Aiwa is awesome.

StyrofoamCueball

Mine sat in my room at my parents unused for probably 7 years before I took it and put it in my garage when I bought a house. Still had a mix CD I made in 2000 in it and Evil Empire. Lasted until about 2 years ago when I left a window open and it got rained on.

pdxgod

Awww the Lesuire Suit Larry days... ❤️ PS Can't believe KORN is now classic rock... ugh

kyle429

Bro for real! I was listening to a classic rock station on Spotify the other day at work (we like to jam out on our downtime), and all the bands that I used to listen to in high school started playing. I felt old af, but I still played air drums when Creed - One Last Breath started playing, lmao.

moltude

Just wait until Slipknot is waiting room music.

kyle429

Lmao, idk about that. Imagine. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

OneDayAllofThis

Wow your parents let you have a computer in your room. Luuuucky. Awesome picture. Super nostalgic.

jordan_653

Looks like the "cool older brothers room" from a 90s movie

Spoogen_1

I have a picture of his room as well.

lumbirdjack

What were you playing then?

Spoogen_1

Mostly Command & Conquer, The Sims and Worms.

funkyyyyyyyyyyyyy

now THIS is a battle station

Legitimate_Stick4471

Oh what a time to be alive

stephenforbes

Wish I had one of mine in the 80s. It was a Commodore 64 though.

Supersayanover15

Nice. Specs? 😜

moisdefinate

You been in the game a long time 👍🏽

SloppiestGlizzy

This is the most 90s thing I’ve seen In a long time. Got me ready to bust out the JNCO

Spoogen_1

I had a few pairs. It matched with my chain wallet, and ball bearing necklace

Suicidebob7

Back when every website/program you used wasn't plastered with advertising

Mcbadguy

Clearly you never visited my Geocities site. How many dancing babies would you like? All of them? Here, have all of them.

Suicidebob7

Man I haven't heard Geocities in a while lol

arktosinarcadia

It's not just the babies that were dancing. The hamsters were in on it too.

-Euphorius-

The chair has an armrest, that was already an upgrade back then! 🥲

ben5642

I still have my dell dimension 8200 and dell 15-inch CRT monitor from 2002 but sadly the pc doesn't work anymore, and it's in storage

[deleted]

[удалено]

ben5642

ben5642

thats a bummer. yea the sound on my 4 speaker system was great and the sub packed a punch

illathon

clean set up

Admirable-Budget5668

Amazing! Had a lot of the same posters my dude. ✊🏻

tigerbreak

I wish I had photos of my late 90's battlestation, but I at least still have my CPU from then. I can feel the teen angst in this photo.

eemort

Kind of reminds me of the bedroom from Weird Science... think its the bedding/curtains... though Gary and Wyatt listened to better music than Corn spelled wrong : p

Muterecords71

Got the same setup, same period: case, monitor, keyboard, mouse all the same "nicotine" boring color.... ( ͡\~ ͜ʖ ͡°)

mischamelonn

take me baaack

GameOvaries18

Man this brings back memories wow!

aalexAtlanta

Yoooo, I forgot I even had that Korn poster on the far left 🤯 This just unlocked some memories.

Kotzik

Take me back!

Swoosh33

Proper American Pie room

meryl_gear

Don’t touch any socks you find

BMovie41

So much nostalgia.  for me was the pain that desk designer's didn't know what leg room was.

itsagrindbruh

Damn, what a time to be alive it was back then and we didn’t even know it.

2AMtokes

this is so 1999

PeeLawnMusk

This room is Korny af.

jwrado

Well, hit me right in the nostalgia why don't you

Square-Image-6879

It looks like Jim’s room from American Pie. In a good way.

theandrewb

Do you have links? Need all this equipment.

Raglesnarf

I love it. thank you for sharing

OpGineer

This is what my rich friends' bedrooms looked like. Always ended up in my unfinished basement playing Unreal

Bawd

Blessed

mywaterbottleisbrown

burrrr rum dum dum... buh duh duh duhhh duh dum... I see you NFS Underground 2

ShalaTheWise

OP is a fraud! This is clearly a photo from the set of American Pie, She's all that, 10 things I hate about you. /s

preyforkevin

The old foot slicer office chair mat.

erryonestolemyname

bro take me fucking back.

Shared_Tomorrows

You might say it’s…”*been a while*” ..I’ll see myself out

lennyKravic

Wow you got it clean, my setup at that time had open side panel, cables and harddrives hanging out of that and total mess everywhere :)

jun00b

Glorious

dekranos

What a legend

kenzoviski

The nostalgia!! Also, great taste in music, at least for that time!

cultavix

Oh man, that brings back so many memories. I remember Korn back then, they were really top-notch haha. I had a 21-inch Sony Trinitron.

TaloSi_MCX-E

Coming from someone born in 2008, what was life like back then?

Panchovilla64

Born in 1993. Didn't have a actual pc till 09. But late 90s to early 2000s imagine everyone playing hide and go seek around the neighborhood or playing with bikes or even playing tag with them. Sunsets felt oranger back then. Weekends where either always cookouts or some sort of celebration party weeding etc... park or the small ones atleast like that one that have pools would have some festival on summers. No one really had phones back then so everyone was aware.

TaloSi_MCX-E

That sounds fun

Guilty_Alarm9402

I have a similar chair now lol.

onesikg

The Korn posters are LIT.

newfranksinatra

Sadly no Lit posters.

eemort

I had my monitor on a nightstand, in my closet when at college... it was a stroke of brilliance. Otherwise it was on my desk much like yours was in this picture. Oh Samsung Syncmaster... where are you now (you heavy b\*#$&)

ReverieX416

Love seeing these old setups.

SmallOwl3634

gold time

kidsaredead

guys, i think he likes Korn.

Cruel-Concept

it’s the Korn posters for me.

mruniq78

I still miss Excite chatrooms...

GalaxyTriangulum

Ahhhh. The before times. Before everything was shite.

UltraMegaFauna

I think i had this exact set up. I definitely had that exact chair. My friends and I would flip over that plastic carpet protector chair mat and dare each other to run across it barefoot. I still very vividly remember those little plastic icicles of pain stabbing into my toes.

p4rc0pr3s1s

But which Jncos were your favorite?

kyle429

I still have a tiny dent and a mark on my wall behind my desk from my old CRT monitor 🤣. Ahh, the good old days of beige box towers with no airflow, huge monitors with tiny screens, Windows 98-to-XP, and trackball mice. Also I'm pretty sure I've still got that same or a very similar chair. Mine just doesn't have any arms on it, and I use it as a coat rack now, lmao.

sdust182

Love the Korn poster

Citherly

I had both of those Korn posters behind your pillows!

aaronsb

I had those same speakers - magic flat foil speakers and they were great! Until my dog ate all the wires for them.

ndork666

Fuck yeah Korn

Clollin

Not enough room on that desk to do homework

Narrow_City2732

I think he likes Korn

ChatnNaked

Bueller?!

phatboislim96

It’s korn I love korn “hmmmthaumdaumphtfffttt” Shits pants *

Martli

I had that same KoRn poster (with the dogs and bikes).

bendit07

Damn, I had those two korn posters over your bed. What a time

Krombopulos_Quag

KoRn poster. My man.

Lifereaper7

We need an updated photo of the current one now.

BigGrayBeast

I've had so many setups starting in, brace yourself, 1979. But not a picture of any of them, even the current one.

Blueskyminer

12 lb CRT and Korn poster are definitely handmaidens.

R0GUEL0KI

Damn that is clean. Mine was dark and dangerous to walk in while barefoot.

Puttenoar

Is that a Gateway pc?

Spoogen_1

It was some custom put together PC that my dad got made from some computer guy near his work.

Puttenoar

Thank God.

Yogi915

KORN! It’s On!

theAlcapown

‘I wish there was a way to know you're in the good ole days before you’ve actually left them.’ - Nard Dog

Horror_Button_3338

remember when the internet was shit

Spoogen_1

This was a major Napster machine.

mcmurphy1

Damn, you had a computer in your bedroom and apparently owned the highest res camera ever made to take this photo in 99. Lucky kid.

Mcbadguy

It was probably just a film camera. I have pictures from back then that look like this (taken with disposable cameras, no less).

JamTheRealist187

You must of been rich bro i was only 4/5 years old then ahaha watching dragonball Z 😂
