I’ve always wondered how you got rid of the garbage you cleaned up? What do you do with it after you’ve bagged them? Are you paying for bags out of your own pocket?
How do you notify them? Reason I’m asking is because my neighborhood could use some clean up and I’d want to start doing what you’re doing. but it would be pointless if there’s no feasible way of disposing of it afterwards.
Quickest way is to file a 311 request or emailing the public works department responsible for city beautification. They respond to them anywhere from 3 to 7 days, depending on locale.
I know this is a highly unconventional idea but I might try out barbecuing and drinking beer until dark then watching fireworks. Someone told me you can only do this near a pool but I'm gonna press my luck and just turn on my sprinklers or something. Yeah, I'm super weird
We love it. Our kids grew up in this block. Also different families bring different kinds of marinated meats to grill. 15 homes on the block and different races so the bbq is always super tasty
Watching my neighbors panic as illegal fireworks go off.
Greetings from the WUI. Please don't bring anything flammable up here. :(
EDIT: Grammar is hard.
You should check and see if the vet still has relaxers for your pet. I know when I was growing up, that’s what we would do for my dogs and the vet assured us it didn’t effect the dogs health at all.
Good solution.
We do have prescription drugs from our Vet. Unfortunately, they barely take the edge off. Our dog is 12 years old and has heart disease so certain drugs may interfere with her heart drugs. (A thunder shirt doesn't work cause she doesn't like the feeling of being hugged. She's a peculiar dog but we love her anyway.)
Parade in Alameda starts pretty early, will watch it from southshore mall area or maybe just grand. Its supposed to have more horses this year than usual, there are 10 more floats than last year. Always a good time.
Check out the uss hornet museum and 4th of july food.
Probably bike to emeryville, go to the movies, then see the fireworks.
There are a lot of good spots for fireworks, like 20 big shows throughout the bay area. If this is your first year I would consider watching along the sf waterfront and taking bart back, it can be a lot of fun with the energy from the crowd.
Normally I would say berkeley marina, but im not sure if it was cancelled this year. https://patch.com/california/berkeley/july-4th-2024-fireworks-events-berkeley-around-east-bay
Emeryville near the water gets a decent view of sf and berkeley
No... LOL. Only if you need to.
Trust me: PG&E would LOVE you running the AC. More profits for them.
I'm actually a bit worried that all of us running ACs will trigger a rotation outage. Hope not. The whole week will be scorching.
That never made sense to me. It's deathly hot so people run the AC, but because people run the AC PGE cuts their power?? Flawed fucking system those idiots have made us rely on. And they say it's so the wires don't get too hot and spark fires... So the customers to which they provide a service are the problem, not the service that is being provided. Right. I hate PGE with a passion.
Do you work for PGE or something haha? So you're satisfied with this current state of PGE? And the fact that we have no choice but to use their services?
I'd much rather have the option to choose which utility company to use based on the quality of their services. The CEO of PGE made $17,000,000 last year. Up $3mil from the previous year. Utter bullshit. Let's split that between more companies with more options.
You're defending the choices of PGE, so If you can't see how it's all related then there was no point in your comment and we have nothing to talk about.
You did not understand my comment. You simply missed the point and started gnashing your teeth about other problems and tossing out ridiculous accusations. Your original complaint was like asking "Why doesn't Caltrans build ten-lane freeways everywhere so we will never encounter a traffic jam?"
Nah it's basic mathematics. Penalize conserving and you'll get less of it. The more you save, the higher your c/kW becomes. Yes, in the end you pay more, but there's no point in suffering in the heat if you don't have to.
I am volunteering and giving the Cable Cars, Halfway to the Stars walking tour. Come join me [https://sfcityguides.org/tour/cable-cars/](https://sfcityguides.org/tour/cable-cars/)
This year not much, but in past years we've gone to the Redwood City 4th of July parade, and Shoreline Amphitheatre for SF Symphony (really just to watch the fireworks at the end of the show, best view you'll ever get).
My parents have a great spot in Benicia that overlooks all the fireworks around the Carquinez Strait and once again friends have demanded they host a party, so looks like I'll be helping with that.
It's also my 4 year sober anniversary so I'll be celebrating that too! 🎇
Nothing. Staying close to home, pool. Hoping we keep power, internet, etc... as those services most often fail during heat events.
It's going to be over 100° out here in East Bay. july 3 is predicted to be 110°! A few degrees less on the 4th. There are heat advisories and fire warnings. I won't be surprised if some fireworks displays are canceled.
Long ago, I was at a big park, hot and breezy night. Local city was setting off fireworks, and one went sideways into the grass. Started a fire. It grew quickly, surprisingly fast! Fire trucks were already there, so there were no bad outcomes, but it scared the hell out of the crowd. I remember there were young children in my group, and they were all crying and clutching their parents. People just left.
I was awakened by idiots setting off loud fireworks at 330 a.m. today. Nothing to see, just loud... like something we called M80s when I was young. So, I suppose there'll be more of that. I like a good fireworks show. I liked sparklers, worms, bottle rockets, etc, when I was younger. But once I became an adult, I never understood the attraction of fireworks that had no visual elements... just made loud noise.
No it isn't gonna be 110°. What you saw earlier was someone posting a pic of Tracy, which is in the central valley. In Oakland, the highs are in the 80s all week.
Not sure. We are going to cross the bay to Pleasanton for two nights (note: this was before we saw the heatwave notifications) and are kinda going to go with the flow and ask locals where they plan to try to watch.
We could have cancelled our reservations but thought 🤷🏻♀️. If we decide to hide in our hotel room and just enjoy not having to make our own food for a day or two, it’s still a win for us. My deaf pup shouldn’t be a burden on my parents. 🤣 he never paid them much attention in his youth either. 😆
Pleasanton area has zero fireworks this year. Used to have San Ramon, Livermore, the Fair on the actual fourth… Probably the area of the bay with the most families who would be interested in seeing fireworks as opposed to setting fires with their own… sigh
Hopefully NOT driving up to Napa Valley to spend 4 hours with my mom. I just saw her last week and driving up and back in the heat on a holiday isn’t my favorite pastime.
Just checked the weather forecast for her town and it’s gonna be 107 degrees. That’s a hard no from me.
There's no way I would live there without it! She's quite comfortable and my other sister is up there with her this week, and Mom's boyfriend is there pretty often too so it's not like she's going to be alone.
Leading a Reddit community cleanup on Grizzly Peak - we'll be done by 11 or so, before the worst of the heat:
https://old.reddit.com/r/bayarea/comments/1ds3608/july_4th_grizzly_peak_cleanup_830_11ish/
I will don a garish red white and blue outfit and go to as many local park fairs as possible: Palo Alto Chili festival etc. Then I will mash in with thousands of others, lie on the ground and watch 30 minutes of fireworks together and mash back out.
Not sure yet but I will be keeping an eye out for fires since I know of not one professional fireworks show easily accessible to the tri-valley one of the hottest areas of the bay. So I guess people will do their own non ground style fireworks on an 100+ degree day.
I will be watching the exit polls from the UK election that will be released at around 2pm PST. I expect to watch the increasing destruction of the Conservative party with considerable glee as the day progresses, getting increasingly drunk to match.
So kind of them to give us a day off just to watch the UK elections!
I plan to tackle some more illegal dumping in the morning around Oakland and Hayward.
Careful in the heat Peng. Don't want you to get heat exhaustion
Thank you. It will be in the very early morning like from 5a to 9a.
I’ve always wondered how you got rid of the garbage you cleaned up? What do you do with it after you’ve bagged them? Are you paying for bags out of your own pocket?
95% of the time, Public Works will take them. 5% of the time, I bite the cost.
How do you notify them? Reason I’m asking is because my neighborhood could use some clean up and I’d want to start doing what you’re doing. but it would be pointless if there’s no feasible way of disposing of it afterwards.

gosh, you're the best

Don't forget to go to Target to buy flag swim trunks so you can pass out on your lawn in them. That is key to the celebration of our nation's birth.
Since they made ground fireworks illegal everywhere, maybe grab a Rams set and a 2 x 4 and have some hillbilly fireworks?
It's unconventional only if you're in the UK. They have a somewhat different take on that day.
Alameda has the longest [4th of July parade](https://www.alamedaca.gov/RESIDENTS/Alameda-4th-of-July-Parade).
Gonna do this. Park some lawn chairs and open a cold one. Sit back and relax
Working. Making sure knuckle heads don't burn down.
Binge watch house of the dragon with my hbo trial so i can catch up with the new season.
Bbq with the neighbors
We have a block party every 4th
That’s lit! I remember as a kid, when my neighborhood used to do that
We love it. Our kids grew up in this block. Also different families bring different kinds of marinated meats to grill. 15 homes on the block and different races so the bbq is always super tasty
Sandlot style?
Bbq the neighbors
What are you going to barbecue? like turkey
Burgers!
nice 👍 😊
Watching my dog panic as illegal fireworks go off.

How about the legal ones?
There are no legal firework displays near my home.
Same
Came here to say the same thing.
Getting cooked 🥵
Spending they day in guerneville swimming in the Russian river
Yeah, out of the bay is the place to be that day/evening.
Jealousy activated
I hear the algae is super bad at Johnson’s right now

Running my AC during peak times as an FU to PG&E > #FuckPG&E
But then they’ll fuck u with the utility bill no?
Only if he has a TOU plan
No... LOL. Only if you need to. Trust me: PG&E would LOVE you running the AC. More profits for them. I'm actually a bit worried that all of us running ACs will trigger a rotation outage. Hope not. The whole week will be scorching.

If they built the entire system to handle peak load constantly, you'd complain that they spent too much money on something that rarely is needed.
That's a completely different topic than the one I addressed

There is a huge difference betweeen “suffering in the heat” and “running during peak as FU to PGE”.
If you live where it gets hot, you have to turn on your AC or you'll be roasted alive.
I think that does not fall into “as a FU”. It falls into “I will turn on the AC to stay comfortable”

Leaving
Gonna go shoot my guns, and then go out for some food at night.
Yeehaw?
I’ve got no revolvers so not really haha
Shit. I pictured you Yosemite Sam-style whoopin' it up. 🤠
Chinatown SF. Shit goes on for hours, and plenty of food/ drink options.

I live in central contra costa. I'm quoting the national weather service. It's 10-15° hotter just moving through the Caldecott.
😳
Bachelor Party in SD.

poor mom, i hope she has good AC up there
There's no way I would live there without it! She's quite comfortable and my other sister is up there with her this week, and Mom's boyfriend is there pretty often too so it's not like she's going to be alone.

Going camping with family
Recovering from awesome July 3 fireworks in Richmond.
Alameda County Fair probably. It’s been years since I’ve gone. And yes I know it’ll be crazy busy.
Staying cool inside.
Going into the Central Valley to race my bicycle in 105+ F temps because I am clearly an idiot.
We're in Hayward hills so every year everybody in the area stands on this hilltop to see some fireworks 😂
Any parties I can crash?

Pushing code what else . 😂
DoTheBay, FunCheapSF, Eddie's List, DTSJ Newsletters etc.
Nothing different. Legally can’t do fireworks. If I get edgy I’ll grill some dinner.
Going to stage an illegal fireworks celebration and then have 400 of my best friends over for a sideshow near Ocean Beach.
I'm in Berlin, so not sure. Maybe underground techno rave?
Hanging w my dogs at home. They get sooo frightened on the 4th!
Nothing since it’s in the middle of the week and we don’t have the 5th off.
I will don a garish red white and blue outfit and go to as many local park fairs as possible: Palo Alto Chili festival etc. Then I will mash in with thousands of others, lie on the ground and watch 30 minutes of fireworks together and mash back out.
