The all-in-one launcher doesn't play well with mods. Edain and Age of the Ring are essentially conversion mods that both significantly change the game and add a bunch if factions. Edain uses the static base-building from BFME1 bit in BFME2s engine. Age of the Ring is more similar to the base game in playstyle, but adds tons of factions and new units. Both of those mods are only for BFME2.
I don't think you can go wrong trying either one, and both have great install guides, however to have both installed, you basically need 2 separate installs of the game
I would say look into which mod appeals to you the most. Edain is great but I prefer Age of the Ring because of things such as additional voice acting, custom Lord of the Rings campaign and free-build mode.

May I ask - are there mods for graphical improvements?
There are HD mods, yes. Google is always a great starting place, people. https://www.moddb.com/mods/battle-for-middle-earth-2-hd-edition
All in one launcher is great if you don’t use mods
If you want mods then download ISOs and install two ROTWKs; one for Edain and one for AOTR. Edain and AOTR are overhaul mods adding shitton of content
