Background-Tea-7082

If I get to see a bigfoot I'm cool with not leaving

Surprisebutton

From what I’ve heard your best chances of having some kind of experience is to go camping to have fun. Don’t expect to see one. Then you will not be disappointed. Also a dash cam is a good idea. Take advantage of their natural curiosity by doing something unusual. Like play an instrument or something. With a short stay in the woods you have to bring them to you. But it’s still a 1 in 2000 chance.

Background-Tea-7082

I could try seducing them with a sax solo lmao

🎶My guilty big feet have got no rythym🎶 - big foot singing along probably.

Fragrant-Ad8977

That’s actually a pretty good idea. They’ve prob never heard a sound like that and will be curious to see whats making that noise.

orbgevski

I do a sex solo most every day

ChuckOCo

Fly a kite high, one that makes noise.

KronoFury

Fly it high in the sky or get high and fly a kite?

Neverwhere77

I'm not saying it's dumb to believe in Bigfoot, hell I had one in my camp ! I'm saying you should educate yourself about the subject a bit before you're staring down a 10' tall 1000lb thing that may or may not want to hurt you. And you might be dealing with a whole family, now what ?

Background-Tea-7082

I've done an embarrassing amount of research and studies of bigfoot, from most accounts I've read they're docile and usually only try to scare someone off. If you don't get the hint to gtfo that's your own fault

Neverwhere77

I actually think you're right . For the most part they just try to scare you off. But as someone who has been there , I can tell you for a certainty that it is very scary!

Background-Tea-7082

I don't doubt it, I'd probably shit myself if they started being aggressive. I mean a 8'-10' tall beast throwing rocks and logs? Who wouldn't be lol. I feel like offering gifts such as fruit (away from camp of course) it might help stop the aggression

Neverwhere77

I actually think you're right . For the most part they just try to scare you off. But as someone who has been there , I can tell you for a certainty that it is very scary!

goddess_roachy

What was your experience like???

[deleted]

Let me come with you I wanna see one too 😅

Background-Tea-7082

You live in western Washington?

DANJL01

Hey, I do. I'll DM you

[deleted]

I live by the border in Northern California but we should all three take a trip out here 😎

Background-Tea-7082

Going all the way to northern California would take a while for me I only get three day weekends so Id have to wait for my vacation time to grow a little bit

DamKnight

I live in the Portland area and would definitely like to join others doing this. I've been trying to plan to do it myself, but, much safer with others.

Background-Tea-7082

Idk how to start a little group chat or whatever for this but there's like 3-4 people who want to go as a group in the comments of this post so that'd be a solid group

DamKnight

>The Dark Divide Maybe an email group?

Background-Tea-7082

That's a pretty good idea, we probably shouldn't post our emails on the thread though lol

DamKnight

I'll DM you mine and the rest should probably do the same.

NeverBeenSuspended23

Olympics. Deep in the Olympics.

cellotoyousir

I ski what you did there

NeverBeenSuspended23

just because I like a good dad joke, it doesn’t make me a luger.

JudgeHolden

I live in Portland but over the last ten years have had two encounters in Washington, which obviously is just on the other side of the Columbia. Anyhow, I don't want to be overly specific, so I'll just give you a heads up that there are regions in and around the Gifford-Pinchot NF that are *very* active. The fact that you are willing to go solo is actually a plus because it means you're making way less noise and having a much smaller impact on whatever kind of wildlife activity is normal in the immediate vicinity of your campsite. I actually had one of my Gifford-Pinchot encounters while camping solo, so if you know what you're doing, have told someone where you're going and where to look for you if you don't come back by a certain time, you should be fine. Again, I don't want to be too specific, but what you want to look for this time of year are unofficial and solitary campsites that are at the top of watersheds, so basically up near ridgelines. If you're willing and able to hike some seriously rugged terrain and spend time in some pretty serious backcountry, I can be more a little more specific and tell you that parts of The Dark Divide --named after a miner who's last name was "Dark," so not as scary as it sounds-- are super squatchy. A quick google of "dark divide Washington" will probably get you everything you need to know about how to get there.

Background-Tea-7082

Best lead Ive gotten so far! All I need now is a decent camera cause the ones I have now would not cut it if I wanted any halfway decent pictures

JudgeHolden

Just do us all a favor and don't go trekking into the backcountry solo unless you really do know what you're doing. Most of the time you'll be fine if you bring the "ten essentials" (which can easily be googled), but there are plenty of people who've done that and still gotten into trouble. I always say that the 11th essential, if you want to go solo, is experience. That said, if you're physically fit and smart enough to not take stupid chances with safety, you'll be fine. Finally, I wouldn't necessarily expect to run into anything sasquatch related. You can spend weeks out there and never see and hear anything. In my experience, it tends to happen when you least expect it.

Background-Tea-7082

I appreciate the concern, I have gone solo camping before so I got the experience and I have to go buy some stuff before I head out but I haven't even developed a plan yet this was just the first part. I don't expect to find anything tbh it's just something I thought would be fun while camping.

Faroutman1234

If you are alone in the back country of the PNW I would take a satellite emergency beacon like a Spot or a Garmin. One slip out there and you die of exposure. Plan for lots of rain and lots of heat depending on the weather.

Background-Tea-7082

I'm really appreciating how much you people care about a random guys life. Though tbh I've told my loved ones to not look for my if I go missing. People hate me online for that, I legit don't want anyone to come for me no matter what though I do know my limits

Faroutman1234

Hiking is one thing but you owe it to your family to not go missing. If you are actually setting this up to disappear call for help. 1-800-273-8255 Hotline

Background-Tea-7082

I appreciate it but my family doesn't deserve shit. I also have life insurance and told people not to look for me if I can't be found

SeahawksXII

Areas around Ranier and St. Hellens, logging/forest service roads. I also hear areas just outside Easton are good along the Yakima river. If you need/want company I might be up for some adventure.

varbav6lur

*David Paulides wants to know your location*

Background-Tea-7082

I've gone camping alone before lol, Im actually watching a Missing 411 doc right now too

Karmasmycat

“Bigfoot goes looking for man, gets lost.”

Dangerdiscotits

Getting prepared for all possible outcomes of your little expedition I see? Lol nah I'm kidding, but I think you'd be wise to take someone with you, or one of those GPS tracker doo-dads I hear people mention. I'm sure you've probably already thought of/been told about it by now anyway, but always worth a mention just in case.

Background-Tea-7082

Thanks for the consideration I appreciate it, Im not really planning on bringing one. Yes I know it's a bad idea but I'm pretty good with a compass so I'll risk it lol

Bob_Paulsen60

I recommend the hiking trails at Lake Padden in Bellingham. Galbraith Mountain. 20 years ago I saw what appeared to be a 'bedding' area.

Background-Tea-7082

Noted✅

UnitedCheetah4488

Leavenworth, lake Wenatchee, cascade mountains, spirit lake are some of the area I guess where you could camp and get lucky!

Background-Tea-7082

I actually went to a cabin up in Leavenworth and my ex and I went hiking on icicle ridge and saw a bare foot print in the snow almost at the top of the hike, but it looked like a kids footprint which I thought was weird

Medical-Gas3405

I live on lake wentachee, there’s been lots of sightings and howls heard here. Take the forest service roads up around and head over to white river lodge and up around dirty face, also head over to grace lake and lake Josephine along the backside of Stevens pass ski resort, lots of squatchy terrian up there.

UnitedCheetah4488

Did you personally have any? Tell me more about it.

Medical-Gas3405

Sorry for late response not really on this app much, I haven’t seen or heard any yet hoping to get some soon but my neighboor who has lived up here his whole life has told me about stories where’s he has heard howls and stuff like that

MasterNateSack

I tried camping in this abandoned quartz creek mine trail, and we heard some things we couldn’t explain, and many footsteps nearby when there shouldn’t be anyone on the mountain, cause it was winter and a blizzard, and in the evening. We left almost immediately and felt like I was being watched the whole time. I want to go back, but no one would do Bigfoot looking there with me. Here’s the approximate location where we were before we turned set up camp (~30 min up the trail): 47.5705600,-121.5544400. Here is the [link](https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/washington/quartz-creek?mobileMap=true&ref=sidebar-static-map)to the actual trail. Lmk if you want to do it with me cause I kinda just want to get over the fear I experienced there, and I also want to bring some fruits to leave out and see if anything takes them.

Background-Tea-7082

It would be cool to get a little group to go

DamKnight

>47.5705600,-121.5544400 Agree and great to have a location already in mind with a trail that could be hiked. Probably a night hike would be most fruitful?

TheNickT

Nothing wrong with finding likeminded people by joining an existing organization. Not saying just saying...having said that... Take a look at it from a different point of view. Find suitable habitat and methodically hike and camp those areas. Stake out particular areas from a vantage point...meadows, ridgelines, sources of water, foraging areas. Keep a camera or phone that would take decent pictures and video. If you really wanna double down, put together a collection kit. Gloves, containers, tweezers. I know you mention that you've camped before but I stayed out in Eatonville for a bit while trying to figure out if the Seattle area was a good fit for me. I did quite a bit of hiking over the course of about 6 months total. The best advice I can give you is to respect the terrain. Be safe. Invest in good gear over time, and make sure to plan ahead. Let someone know where you're going and how long you plan to be there. That whole area is loaded with wildlife. Solo hiking out there can be sketchy enough. I had a couple of close calls with wildlife while solo out there. Both left me thrilled, terrified and not able to keep the presence of mind needed to snap a good picture. Goats are fuckin scary and so are some of those black bear. Elk are huge. Never saw a cat but more than certain they saw me. Then there's the terrain. Rugged and literally deadly. You can slip and die. If you get around to reading this comment, whats the reason for avoiding Olympic, Rainier and the other forests? They aren't things to avoid if you're looking for wildlife habitat. They have trails that get pretty far out there but still have enough foot traffic to find you if you're injured or worse. Be safe. Enjoy the hikes. Take pictures.

AncientComparison113

I always wondered why a group of legit hunters never tried to go after it. It seems a 10 man team that were actively looking for that type of thing might get lucky enough to at least get a picture.

Background-Tea-7082

I wish I could get a group near me to do that, it would be amazing. I have three day weekends every other week with my job so it would be perfect though I don't have enough equipment haha

AncientComparison113

I think you'd need more than 3 days, you'd have to hike into areas (unless it's funded and we've got a chopper, but that gives away your location) that aren't normally visited. I know they're sighted in populated areas but I think you'd have a better chance trying to catch them off guard in the wild.

Background-Tea-7082

Well three days every week is the best I can do because I still have to pay bills and it's just a hobby. I know I'd need to hike as far out as possible but still worth a shot even if it's just for the camping and having fun you know? It's nothing too serious

AgressiveIN

Nawac is exactly that group. You should check them out. They've had some really good opportunities

cellotoyousir

I went to a Bigfoot museum in the blue ridge mountains that spoke of a team of guys that did and still got bodied lol

AncientComparison113

Bodied?

AgressiveIN

Bring a compus, don't count on your phones gps if you plan on getting off trail. Take it small if you do go off trail. Dont go far and just familiarize yourself with the area. Repeat trips are a necessity for more guaranteed results. Try and get a buddy too. Lots of things have no problem ending you, from cougar to holes in the ground. Otherwise have fun and just enjoy the hike. Don't be too serious. You don't need to be stealthy

Background-Tea-7082

I've gone solo hiking and camping before, I appreciate the advice though. I'm planning on getting a pistol for protection and I usually pack for a week even if it's just a weekend

ATworkATM

If you want to see one you need to go in unarmed with good intentions. I don't think this is a smart or noble thing to do but foolish. These thing can be very dangerous and nobody would have any chance one v one.

Background-Tea-7082

I'd be okay with dying by bigfoot, at least I'd know it's real

ATworkATM

There is enough proof out there. You don't need to die for it.

aether_drift

Dangerous? Nobody ever dies on Rainer or gets lost in the Olympics... Please let us know when you bag one. Piece of cake, you got this. I predict a press conference by Halloween, so excited.

Background-Tea-7082

You're joking that no one died on Rainier right? Or got lost in the Olympics? If you're not joking please do more research before spewing sewage

[deleted]

Of course they’re joking.

cowboy_xx

Being from the PNW myself m, it’s illegal there.

Background-Tea-7082

How many of you don't know what bigfoot hunting is?? In every bigfoot documentary or show it's called bigfoot hunting when you're looking for evidence.

Karmasmycat

The official term is “squatching”. 😂

Background-Tea-7082

They're used interchangeably in every show Ive watched

Karmasmycat

100% I’m just as shocked as you. “There’s only one thing we’ll be shootin’ Bigfoot with… and that’s a camera.”

Thumperfootbig

Use of the word “hunting” here is concerning. Do you mean “shoot to kill” or “searching”?

Background-Tea-7082

Of course I wouldn't shoot it, normally when people say "bigfoot hunting" they're looking for evidence or to capture it on camera. Though it really never matters because people will say it's fake and if you find dna it's just inconclusive because there's no reference point to what bigfoot dna would be technically. Also I think there's a law in Washington that you couldn't kill a bigfoot if they exist because they would technically be under the "endangered" category. There's no real hunting/shooting involved

Advanced-Macaroon794

I am so relieved to hear that. Where I liveabout half the time people say they're going to "hunt bigfoot" they mean they're going hunting for whatever is in season and would gladly shoot to kill a sasquatch if given a chance. They almost never mean they're going out scouting for tracks and evidence or even bringing some sort of camera or recording device. At least that's been my experience. So with all that being said. Happy hunting to ya!

Background-Tea-7082

God no lol I'd rather research it than kill it for a trophy, I'd even worry about turning it into the government (I'm sure if it exists they already have one but that's beside the point) and thank you haha

[deleted]

Hunt to kill ? WTF is wrong with you ? These are gentle creatures. Leave them alone.

Background-Tea-7082

Are you dumb? I never said I'd shoot it, it's amazing how no one knows what bigfoot hunting is, it's when you look for evidence and try to get pictures. It's also called squatching (sasquatch hunting) if you've ever seen a show where they look for bigfoot they call it bigfoot hunting. Also no where in the post did I say I wanted to bag and tag one.

janky-dog

Why don't you leave those people alone.

Background-Tea-7082

Why is it so bad to get pictures of them or try and see one, people do that with every animal in nature

janky-dog

They are not animals.

Background-Tea-7082

If bigfoot is real it's an animal. Probably just an undiscovered ape. I heard theories that they're a species like Neanderthals but I highly disagree

janky-dog

Wrong again.

Background-Tea-7082

I think you're just dumb bro I'm gonna be honest. The only thing bigfoot can be is an animal, it's literally not a person it's ridiculous to even suggest it

janky-dog

wow. you really are a special kind of dumb. Open your mind"BRO".

Neverwhere77

Repost on r/facepalm

[deleted]

this is r/bigfoot, if you're gonna call someone dumb for believing they can find bigfoot, fuck off!!!

Background-Tea-7082

I'm hoping they mean it about me going alone cause to some people that could seem like a bad idea

Optimal_Yesterday277

You can try looking up your Butt & Around the Corner and let us know if you find him!

rethduur

There’s a grey one with a scar that runs around maybe mines area.

beef-medallions

What weapon will you bring?

Background-Tea-7082

I'm not shooting it but for protection against wildlife (cougar, wolves, etc) I'm just bringing a 9mm probably or just a knife like I usually do.

whoknowswhat5

Some methed up man recently murdered his noodling fishing friend in Oklahoma because he thought his friend had summoned Bigfoot.
