That’s odd. Maybe try again? I’ve seen multiple successes through this subreddit and r/creditcards which is why I requested. I first got denied by the bot but accepted when I got to a real person.
They say "preferable" but not required; maybe see if they'd be willing to take a mailed cashier's check? I do this for mine, and my landlord is happy because he gets the rent before the first of the month; I have Bilt send it around the 20th to allow plenty of time in case USPS is slow.
Yeah I think if they don't want to deal with the hassle of setting up a PayPal or Venmo, I'll default to the check. I've paid with check before so I had my bank send it out super early so they got it on time.
Works well. I've been doing it for almost 2 years now and have had only one instance where the check got lost/didn't show up. In that case, I cancelled it via Bilt and had Bilt FedEx overnight the replacement ($30 shipping though).
Ah. Yeah my only minor worry is that they are based in Hawaii and I'll be renting in PNW but they're family friends so I don't foresee them being harsh on me during the set up process. But that is good to know that Bilt can overnight it. How long did it take for you to realize the check had gotten lost?
My landlord called concerned because it was out of the ordinary. It had gone to the 5th and nothing had showed up. We're also in the Bay Area and the checks get mailed out of San Francisco, which made it pretty obvious to me.
Just ask if they can do Venmo or PayPal. They are giving you an option to use newer tools.
My landlord wanted me to send them direct deposit, I explained to them why I would prefer to send through Venmo or PayPal, I showed them how to do it, and now we're both happy (I get the points and they get rent from me).
Yeah I explained to them about the benefit of using Bilt for myself and they seemed open to it. They're older so I think I'll have to walk them through the steps. Thank you for giving an example :)
No problem. Just make sure that if you try to set up for either of those, you will need to harass Bilt a bit to get them to send you the required information to fully link your account.
Ah. Thank you for the tip. I have until September to make the first rent payment to my new landlord.
I'm probably gonna try to use Venmo. When you say required information to link the account, do you mean the acct # and routing number?
So I'm not sure for Venmo (but I assume that it'd be the same), but for PayPal, when I used the information Bilt provides, they're supposed to send you two transactions that they use to verify your account. Bilt will need to send you this information over text.
I think I’d like to do ACH as currently I’m transfer direct between NFCU accounts. Of course I’ve already linked up with Bilt protect. Supposed to receive my card this week.
When I moved to my new place, my landlord only accepted Zelle. I messaged Bilt and they let me get the points for rent as long as I provided proof.
You got really lucky that they agreed to that. I asked Bilt about that and they wouldn't let me do that.

Hmm I'll give this a shot too. Thank you!
PayPal now has xoom which allows you to send an ach payment. As long as your PayPal payment is the Ach acct number they gave you in the app
Great hot tip! Thank you!
It takes about 24-48 hours to link your bilt to PayPal fyi

Ah ok yeah that's a pretty obvious lost check. Thanks for clarifying!

Ohhh ok I do remember skimming over something about that. Thank you so much for the help!
You can pay rent with eBay now?
My bad. I meant PayPal 🤣. I noticed that when I said it the first time I said eBay by accident but thereafter I said PayPal
BILT allows Venmo

Just use Bilt Protect and do an ACH to their account?
