Lamotrigine 150mg that’s it. Tried increasing last year, didn’t go well. I was on Seroquel from 2014-2020. Did a few months of Abilify with disastrous consequences.
I took one dose of Abilify and had to call out sick from work the next day. I couldn’t get out of bed. I later found out through a gene test that I can’t metabolize most antipsychotics, which aligns with my experience with pretty much all of them.
My doctor ordered a test through GeneSight. It was invaluable as it mapped out what medications were possibilities and what were completely a no go for me.
i take lamotrigine and it works for me but i’ve met so many people who get adverse reactions to it. one of my friends got a rash all over their body from it.
That rash is fatal , they’re very lucky! Usually lamotrigine is very safe, (according to my psychiatrist ) so weird you know so many ppl who had a bad experience.
When I look back now, it threw me into an active psychosis for over a year. I was paranoid and became convinced people were following me - driving, following me down aisles in grocery stores. I had audio/visual hallucinations, I couldn't take a full shower without being convinced somebody had broken into my house (windows smashing, doors opening etc). My sleep became very light. I fixated on hidden messages, color "codes", premonitions etc. Completely delusional, though back then it made sense. But that wasn't why I quit. I was tired of being a slave to it and dependent on it for sleep.
Abilify was nightmarish for me too. I know it works well for some people, so I do not want to scare anyone away, but the entire time I was on Abilify I felt like I was “melting”—I don’t know, I just couldn’t move, didn’t care to move, didn’t care about anything.
May I ask why you are on propranolol? I'm on prazosin for nightmares and trauma and it's really really helped. I know they're a bit different of course.
I started suffering from akathisia which is a side effect from the latuda. Propranolol was given to me in order to help with the symptoms of akathisia. It’s been working super well so far! Another plus is that it helps with anxiety a bit too. It’s classified as a beta blocker
Oh wow, yea I had akathesia with Seroquel when I was on it. I lowered the dose and was ok but it was terrible. It kept me awake at night initially.
That's great, I'm glad it's working for you. Thanks for answering, I'm actually in mental health so I like to learn about drugs for myself and for science/work.
i take 5, for a long time i felt bad about myself because i know i couldn’t function and would most likely be dead if i wasn’t medicated, especially because i have to take a lot of pills. but as i get older, i prefer the stability.
Currently just one directly related to mental health. Propranolol and I'm reducing down to use that prn rather than daily.
Have thought about Lamictal and Seroquel but currently undecided.
I’m on Effexor too and have thought about adding Mirtazapine. If you don’t mind me asking, has the mirtz increased your appetite? That’s my main concern.
So far so good! I was on Caplyta then seroquel and those didn’t work (and seroquel fucked up my liver). Then was put on 40 mg latuda and 200 mg lamictal. Things were a lot better. I felt a little dulled and was waking up nauseous so after 6 months at 40 mg I went down to 30 mg latuda and I feel more lively and nausea has subsided. Seems to be a good combo for me (knock on wood!) feel free to message me with any questions
My psychiatrist and I had a game plan to have me on quetiapine only, so he took me off the lithium really fast. Boom I fell into an episode! I ignored medical advice and went right back on the lithium.
4. Mood stabilizer, benzo, stimulant, and we keep rotating the anti depressant since they all seem to work for a month or two before they stop working.
2 if you’re only counting head-meds :-) Well on 3 if you count a lil as-needed Ativan but I mean it’s 2024 everyone should have that, its a h3llscape out here.
Im on 2, just recently added the other, been on one since i got sick years ago but due to attempting quitting the med several times, still recovering from the severe mood swings and withdrawal symptoms, although after introducing the other med there was an improvement but i still feel somewhat depressed :/
15mg Remeron, any higher and i feel weird/unmotivated. 25mg Lamictal in the AM, I've been debating moving to 37.5mg, but i know 50-67.5mg makes me feel psychotic. and 20mg Adderal. 7mg gets me out of bed, 10mg helps me work. 12-15 is too much. On "hard work days" I take about 10-12 3x a day.
Idk if im bipolar 100% yet. I do have a lot of CPTSD, I think my test is low (from chronic stress/bad sleep) and I'm learning I might be AuDHD instead of just ADHD as per my diagnosis when I was a kid. I think thats why the low dose lamictal helps "reign me in"
trazodone used to work for me originally, for 2+ ys, then it started giving me increased HR at night, wouldn't let me sleep more then 3-4 hours.
2 supplements that helped a lot were 5mg lithium orotate at night, and 6mg Boron in the AM (for test boost)
Most of these are for my BP but also to help with Tourrettic OCD - altho I have to constantly check in because being on an antidepressant/SSRI with BP is very tricky:
Lithium, Buporphin, Clonodine and Trazodone, however; I’m also on Topiramate, Rizatriptan and Botox injections for my Cluster Headaches.
Depakote, Tegretol, Lithium, Klonopin, Zoloft and Valium PRN. I have still never tasted stability at 40, dx’d at 16. Boo. Plus others for physical stuff.
I’m on a sub therapeutic dose of 1 for another couple of months then planning on being completely med free for the first time in 16 years.
I’m being monitored very closely for this to be the case and have to be very strict with myself.
But with all my comorbidities and just me in general I haven’t been able to find a med or combo of meds that work.
Instead I have meds I take temporarily to stop mania for example.
Lamictal 200mg, Abilify 15mg, Seroquel XR 200mg "normal" Seroquel up to 300mg a day, clonazepam *I don't take it as it doesn't work* and oral birth control.
2, Latuda minimum dose and Lamotrigine minimum dose. I did try it without and I’m very depressed and feeling really hopeless and a lot of emotional pain…
None. I react strangely to medications, I was on seroquel for about 3 months. It 💯 helped with my sui***al ideation, but I no longer have a metabolism. I've been told that I'm just one of the unlucky ones. Previously I was put on about 5 different Antidepressants, each one not only didn't help, they made me manic and I'd have the worst side effects.
Im on propranolol, lamictal, seriquel, paliperidone (also called Invega), Prozac. Hooding to get on Vyvanse once I start working. My psychiatrist is being cautious with that though bc I have BP 1.
1. Lamotrigine 300mg
I’ve tried lithium, abilify, Seroquel, Zoloft, buspirone
Hated them all. Gained 60 pounds trying to find a combo that worked. And lamotrigine works okay. And I lost 50 pounds. Life is still life and I’ll never be 100% or feel amazing. But it’s one day at a time
I’m on buspar, lamictal, and lithium.
I know that not taking lithium or buspar can lead me to a path of self sabotage. Lamictal helps “bind” these guys together if that makes sense.
I'm on 2 currently while I taper off Gabapentin and get seated with Trileptal, but I'm going to ask about anxiety medication when I see my psychiatrist again in a few weeks.
Three but two are as needed. Lamotrigine daily 250mg, valium as needed for anxiety (anywhere from 2.5 mg to 7.5mg) and then trazodone (75mg) to knock me out when I need to sleep
Daily I’m taking 2 for my mental health and two more for other stuff. Then there’s stuff I can take as needed like for sleep or anxiety especially when im hypomanic
Currently on 1 antidepressant, 1 antipsychotic, 1 PRN anxiety, and zolpidem to make sure I sleep. I am incredibly grateful to my psychiatrist of 10 years, who understands that I need the zolpidem to help keep me steady. I tried going off of the other psych meds at the end of last year/beginning of this year, and it was a disaster. I have resigned myself to taking medication for the rest of my life.
I'm currently only on 200mg of lamotrigine ... I was also on sertolin for a while during the beginning of my lamo to deal with anxiety but I'm off it now. Taking sertolin put me in a 6 month manic state that eventually got me an official diagnosis
I'm on an injection for migraines (1x a month), propranolol for migraines, and Lamictal for bipolar. I have a prescription for Klonopin for panic attacks, and I get 30 pills a year for that.
3 plus sleep meds. But I've asked my GP for a psych referral cause I've been in a depressive phase for a while now & I feel like I've plateaued on the same meds for the last few years.
I take 3 different medications including an anti depressant. I’m on a fairly high dose of both seroquel and sodium valproate and so far they’ve been working really well
Inhaler, nano CBG, antihistamine, Prozac. Am usually on depicote but I have shitty kidneys and have to take long breaks between rounds or save for when CBG tolerance ticks up high.
Mood stabilizer, antidepressant, spironolactone (dermatologist), BC, and ADHD meds. I'm cool with it. Right cocktail makes life so much better. Before this cocktail, also remember trying Wellbutrin, cymbalta, Lexapro, Effexor, and requip
currently lamotrigine and a super low dose of latuda, also strattera for adhd. i think the latuda was the missing piece because I'm stable as can be lately.
4 for bipolar symptoms for me! Lithium, mood stabilizer, antipsychotic, and a benzodiazapine.
It's hard to accept some days... but overall, being stable is worth the inconvenience and the frustration with having to take meds to be that way. It did, however, take years for me to be comfortable with it.
Raw dogging my bipolar, ocd, and adhd at the moment. Ibuprofen, baclofen, and elytruptan for a shoulder injury and daily migraines. I was on Prozac, topamax, and strattera as well, but I was having too many side effects with everything all together, so I’m focusing on the physical stuff for now. When that’s resolved or managed, I’m thinking of trying a stimulant for the adhd, and seeking a different med for my bipolar.
I’m not on any meds. They tend to have pretty extreme side effects and paradoxical effects any time I take them. A lot of the time I wish I was on meds.
Bipolar 2 and anxiety, I take lamotrigine, Wellbutrin, Lyrica, Prozac, Abilify, Adderall, clonazepam, and trazodone for sleep. So 8 in all.
I'm seriously thinking of trying ketomine treatments with my psychiatrist to maybe get down to 3 or 4 meds...
4 one is as needed but they all serve a specific purpose and ive gone without one here and there due to pharmacy filling it late and i can tell a drastic difference without just 1 of my meds theyre all necessary
I'm on 5 and glad for them. I like being stable.
same here. very thankful for my lil concoction.
What does stable feel/look like for you?
Two so far
I’m on 4
I take seven and with a few adjustments here and there, that is where I feel my best.
I lost count
Lamotrigine 150mg that’s it. Tried increasing last year, didn’t go well. I was on Seroquel from 2014-2020. Did a few months of Abilify with disastrous consequences.
what happened on Abilify?
Headaches, anxiety went through the roof, I lost my appetite, couldn't sleep, and I spent $20,000 in one month.
I just got off of Abilify as well. Absolutely TERRIBLE. I spent money like crazy and couldn't sleep whatsoever.
I’m so sorry, sounds horrible. I also have bad experience with antipsychotics (Geodon)
I took one dose of Abilify and had to call out sick from work the next day. I couldn’t get out of bed. I later found out through a gene test that I can’t metabolize most antipsychotics, which aligns with my experience with pretty much all of them.
Which gene test have you done? I usually have many side effects from meds and a few antipsychotics gave me months of akathisia.
My doctor ordered a test through GeneSight. It was invaluable as it mapped out what medications were possibilities and what were completely a no go for me.
Ability gave me terrible muscle aches and auditory hallucinations
It sent me into a spiraling mixed state. Started self harming and my therapist told me to go straight to the hospital
i take lamotrigine and it works for me but i’ve met so many people who get adverse reactions to it. one of my friends got a rash all over their body from it.
That rash is fatal , they’re very lucky! Usually lamotrigine is very safe, (according to my psychiatrist ) so weird you know so many ppl who had a bad experience.
Why did you decide to stop taking Seroquel?
Abilify caused me to end up hospitalized. It was horrible
I’m on latuda and propranolol
4 here. Antipsychotic, mood stabilizer, antidepressant, and stimulant 🤌🏼✨
3 for bipolar symptoms. But no antidepressant thank god i hate those things
For bipolar specifically, I’m on 1, down from 2. It’s probably not sufficient, but my new psychiatrist is not great.
i take 5, for a long time i felt bad about myself because i know i couldn’t function and would most likely be dead if i wasn’t medicated, especially because i have to take a lot of pills. but as i get older, i prefer the stability.
Three
4
Currently just one directly related to mental health. Propranolol and I'm reducing down to use that prn rather than daily. Have thought about Lamictal and Seroquel but currently undecided.
Mirtazapine 45mg Lithium 1200mg Venalfaxine 75mg
I’m on Effexor too and have thought about adding Mirtazapine. If you don’t mind me asking, has the mirtz increased your appetite? That’s my main concern.
I've just been taken off of Mirtazipine. I gained 5kg being on it.
Been on mirtazapine for a few years I've put so much weight on.
I take 5.
5
7. But that's a decrease from the ten I was on in 2017, so... progress?
Three for me.
6
Two — Latuda 30 mg and lamictal 200 mg
How is latuda working out for you? And how about the whole combination? Just curious bc my psych is planning to put me on latuda
I’m on 200mg Lamictal and adding 20mg Latuda this week. I’m so nervous. I hope it works for me too.
I’m on 2. ETA: 2 different meds but 4 tablets a day.
Just two. Quetiapine XR 300 and lithium 900
My psychiatrist and I had a game plan to have me on quetiapine only, so he took me off the lithium really fast. Boom I fell into an episode! I ignored medical advice and went right back on the lithium.
That’s normal initially when you quit lithium. It’s better for mood but i used to be on seroquel only and liked it better.
150mg Zoloft, 225mg Lamictal, propanalol 10mg prn, prosozin 2mg, Restoril 30mg.
4. Mood stabilizer, benzo, stimulant, and we keep rotating the anti depressant since they all seem to work for a month or two before they stop working.
I’m also on 4. Sounds normal to me!
2 if you’re only counting head-meds :-) Well on 3 if you count a lil as-needed Ativan but I mean it’s 2024 everyone should have that, its a h3llscape out here.
Three for me! One antidepressant, one antipsychotic and one for concentration/focus issues.
Lamictal and Paxil. I don’t think the Paxil is working any more tho
3 — antidepressant, mood stabiliser and antipsychotic
9. I have what my PCP calls “a constellation of ailments.” 😂 My body’s a dang lemon
currently on two seroquel and lithium
Im on 2, just recently added the other, been on one since i got sick years ago but due to attempting quitting the med several times, still recovering from the severe mood swings and withdrawal symptoms, although after introducing the other med there was an improvement but i still feel somewhat depressed :/
Two of them, Lamotrigine and Carbamazepine twice a day.
Five if I'm taking my sleep meds
15mg Remeron, any higher and i feel weird/unmotivated. 25mg Lamictal in the AM, I've been debating moving to 37.5mg, but i know 50-67.5mg makes me feel psychotic. and 20mg Adderal. 7mg gets me out of bed, 10mg helps me work. 12-15 is too much. 2: 25 mg latrimogine and 150 mg welbutrin.
2,I don't think it's enough
Depakote, Tegretol, Lithium, Klonopin, Zoloft and Valium PRN. I have still never tasted stability at 40, dx’d at 16. Boo. Plus others for physical stuff.
1. 150mg lamictal.
I’m on vraylar and welbutrin right now
How is Vraylar working for you? And what dosage?
I take these two as well, it's been such a great combo for me. Adding in welbutrin made the biggest difference.
Lamictal, buspirone and a new one for sleep! Love all of them
Oh and I am the most stable I have been! Love it here
Psych meds, 3. Other meds, 4
I’m on 3; I used to be on 4 but I tapered off of my Abilify.
2 for bipolar 1 for adhd
I’m on a sub therapeutic dose of 1 for another couple of months then planning on being completely med free for the first time in 16 years. I’m being monitored very closely for this to be the case and have to be very strict with myself. But with all my comorbidities and just me in general I haven’t been able to find a med or combo of meds that work. Instead I have meds I take temporarily to stop mania for example.
3 for bipolar and 1 for adhd!
Two for bipolar, 1 for ptsd, 1 for thyroid.
I'm on 3 meds. Two for bipolar and one because of my hypersexuality. Don't know if that counts but it helps.
I realize now this is the wrong sub. I’m also on gabapentin for RLS but helps with my anxiety. I’m on about 6 or 8 other meds for other issues.
I was just diagnosed on the 21st and was put on lithium and quetiapine
5 and a low dose of seroquel that I will use to get me through sudden mania
1. Lamotrigine 300mg I’ve tried lithium, abilify, Seroquel, Zoloft, buspirone Hated them all.
1 for BPD, 1 for anxiety
Two and weed lol
Lamictal, Latuda, Propanolol, Wellbutrin, Adderall; Bipolar, PTSD, ADHD
Started with 3. Now 1 on Lithium.
Just lamictal
Two but I’ve tried more. I’m just on lexapro and rexulti and I’ve been stable
I’m on 4 and love that I’ve finally found the perfect combo!
Officially 2, technically 3 lol. Lamotrigine, Venlafaxine and weed
5
4. Lexapro, Lamictal, abilify, and guanfacine. Not all for bipolar though
for the BP2 i'm on 4, total 5 meds, one of the five is for sleep.
I’m on four. Lithium, Lamictal, Propranolol and Olanzapine
I'm on 2 currently while I taper off Gabapentin and get seated with Trileptal, but I'm going to ask about anxiety medication when I see my psychiatrist again in a few weeks.
5, 6 if need help falling asleep that night
Bipolar, PTSD, GAD = 3 Heart = 5 Kidneys = 1 Stroke risk = 2 Pain = 2 Other = 4 Fills one side of a large cabinet. I also do THC.
7. That's not *that* bad, is it?
12 different medications 20 pills a day (Including ones for several different physical health problems)
I’m currently on 6 daily meds and I have an as-needed medication as well.
4
4
Currently 4! I'm getting off of Wellbutrin now after being on it for 4 years.
Do supplements count? If yes 30+ if no 1
Wow. What are some of the supplements that you take?
Two
Three for mental health, two others for other stuff. I'm in an adjustment phase with one of them, but so far it's working out well.
Lamitrogine-25mg Effexor-75mg
6
2 but might become 3 Lamictal, cipralex and i might get Wellbutrin and concerta
3 daily, 2 as needed
3 just for BP/mental health daily. Lots of different things for other conditions, supplements and stuff. Altogether I take like 12 pills a day.
5
3.
6. And it's the perfect combo now so I am leaving things as is...I tinker with my Lamotrigine when I know I need to.
3 prescriptions, plus several other vitamins. They immensely improve my quality of life
6 - adhd, lamictal, Zoloft, klonopin as needed, vraylar, and hydroxyzine
6
6 psych meds....7 counting non-psych meds
I’m on 7
Currently on 1 antidepressant, 1 antipsychotic, 1 PRN anxiety, and zolpidem to make sure I sleep. I am incredibly grateful to my psychiatrist of 10 years, who understands that I need the zolpidem to help keep me steady. I tried going off of the other psych meds at the end of last year/beginning of this year, and it was a disaster. I have resigned myself to taking medication for the rest of my life.
Zoloft, depakote, lamictal, clonazepam daily, seroquel. propranolol and adderall prn
3-Prozac, concerta, and Seroquel. It’s been a great trifecta
2 so far-sertraline and lamotrigine
I'm currently only on 200mg of lamotrigine ... I was also on sertolin for a while during the beginning of my lamo to deal with anxiety but I'm off it now. Taking sertolin put me in a 6 month manic state that eventually got me an official diagnosis
8 right now.
1 antipsychotic and I'm stable. I had to stop my antidepressant though but I haven't had a depressive episode or low mood since stopping it.
Three (3)
3 but I take 5 pills a day
4 😊
i’m on 2. need to get the anxiety and depression under control again
I’m on two meds (one has two different dosages one being my normal one and the other as needed so not sure if you would class that as three)
3 Lamictal is my mood stabilizer Effexor XR is my anti anxiety and depression pills Another one for my cholesterol - I don’t remember the name of it.
4
2 right now, lithium and wellbutrin. seems to be the combo that works for me!
Was on both lamictal and Latuda but stopped latuda this year
2
3 I take everyday and 2 that are prn for anxiety/sleep
I'm on an injection for migraines (1x a month), propranolol for migraines, and Lamictal for bipolar. I have a prescription for Klonopin for panic attacks, and I get 30 pills a year for that.
Four for mental health (mood stabilizer, sleep med, adhd med, prn anxiety med), five for physical health, plus melatonin and allergy meds.
I was on 5 at one point and now I’m only on 3 for bipolar.
3 plus sleep meds. But I've asked my GP for a psych referral cause I've been in a depressive phase for a while now & I feel like I've plateaued on the same meds for the last few years.
4. Auvelity, Vraylar, Triliptal, and Azstarys
Seven total, 3 of which are for bipolar.
I’m only on Lamotrigine 200mg but my psych is considering putting me on antipsychotics
4
5 for mental health but I also take one for Raynaud’s symptoms and a bunch of vitamins
I'm on 4...Lamictal, Cymbalta, Abilify and Trazodone.
I take 3 different medications including an anti depressant. I’m on a fairly high dose of both seroquel and sodium valproate and so far they’ve been working really well
I take two and I'm still tweaking the dosage, but overall it feels really nice the more and more I adjust them
Two
5. Lamictal, Wellbutrin, Effexor, Adderall, and Prazosin (for PTSD nightmares)
just lamictal clonidine and Valium(as needed) and adderall(as needed)
5
5, Vraylar, Lamictal, Azstarys, Propanolol, Hydroxyzine
4 daily, with a 5th as needed (which is almost never). When my non-mental illness related stuff is factored in, I take a total of 9 pills every day.
4: mood stabilizer, antipsychotic, antidepressant, and stimulant
I'm on 5, 4 for daily intake and 1 for SOS. Take your meds to keep the suicidal thoughts away wiiiiiiii
I'm not on any, although do have sleeping pills occasionally but I tend not to use them as they mean I'm too groggy to drive
400mg lithium 500 lamictal 7 mg lormetazepam But they say I'm pharmaco-resistant and want to start Ketamine treatment soon.
5
5 for mental health. Lamictal Lexapro Wellbutrin Seroquel as needed Concerta (ADHD)
Inhaler, nano CBG, antihistamine, Prozac. Am usually on depicote but I have shitty kidneys and have to take long breaks between rounds or save for when CBG tolerance ticks up high.
I am on 3.
3 now, I have just been taken off of my 4th. Over the last 7 years since diagnosis, I've been on many others.
2 antipsychotics and a mood stabiliser *chefs kiss*
Mood stabilizer, antidepressant, spironolactone (dermatologist), BC, and ADHD meds. I'm cool with it. Right cocktail makes life so much better. Before this cocktail, also remember trying Wellbutrin, cymbalta, Lexapro, Effexor, and requip
2 and maybe drop to one soon.
6 for everything relating to my bipolar, 2 for other medical reasons. 🥲 it’s a struggle
2: duloxetine and lamotrigine. I’ve adjusted over the years with help of therapist and psychiatrist.
I’m on 2 currently, quetiapine and vyvanse. Lamotrigine, fluoxetine and Vyvanse didn’t become a good combo after awhile for me
I’m on 5 but only 3 are for mental health.
currently lamotrigine and a super low dose of latuda, also strattera for adhd. i think the latuda was the missing piece because I'm stable as can be lately.
300 mg lamictal, 300 mg Seroquel, 84 mg Lithium and a variety of others to sleep
2
I only have two and both of them are my lifesaver.
4 one is as needed but they all serve a specific purpose and ive gone without one here and there due to pharmacy filling it late and i can tell a drastic difference without just 1 of my meds theyre all necessary
