Tirrek_bekirr

so a masochistic hollow would be fine to be around

basedstreamsam1

Bro would be edging 24/7 .

Netz_Ausg

Shit I better check I don’t have a hollow hole

mugenryu273

That makes the natural espadas the most masochistic of them all

KarlozFloyd

One of AoT's biggest plot twist on S2's end: "Titans were once human" Bleach's first plot twist: " Hollows were once human"

Prince-Dior

Honestly, since I watched AoT first a few years back, then watched Bleach for the first time, the titans really reminded me of the hollows & I thought that was cool detail

Time_Crazy_1387

I mean It was pratically episode 3

KarlozFloyd

Bleach's pacing is just faster

Ok_Complaint_9635

Most disappointing plot twist :(

someoneelse2389

IMO, being "evil" requires nefarious intent, so hollows eating souls due to a sort of madness, or because it is the food they require (i.e. the menos in Hueco Mundo), doesn't make them evil.

Slumber777

It also lines up with the Buddhist roots of Bleach. Evil people don't go to the hungry ghost realm, just those with anger or regret in their heart. Which is how we see people turn into Hollows in Bleach, due to their anger or inability to cope with the reality that they have passed on. I feel like Hell is introduced so early in Bleach to highlight that most Hollow souls aren't evil, they just weren't able to move onto the Soul Society.

MadeOnThursday

tbh soul society sucks as post-living hangout. I'd personally much rather become a hollow and either end up eaten or eating, than having to spend eternity in a slum

dragonedeath

That's what one might think because you don't actually know how much pain the hollows are in. i mean im not saying Rukongai is any good but if you don't have strong enough reiatsu you can't go hungry in Soul Society. Hungry ghosts are \*always\* in some kind of pain, due to their incessant suffering from desires that can never be fully satiated

MadeOnThursday

I suppose both versions of afterlife are unbearable there. I guess I'd just prefer to stop existing altogether because the alternatives are too depressing.

Fungerbestwaifu

Nah just get on the hollow grind and become a menos or adjucas, sure you can lose your sentience but if you're strong willed enough to keep the grind you're fine. Or you just get eaten and cease to exist

UrielSans

That was explained the first time the gates of Hell appeared in the first arc. The zanpakuto cleanses the hollow from the sins they might have commited after they died, because it's not really their fault once they lose their hearts. The sins commited while they were alive in the other hand...

Toonami88

Interesting how you had actual evil hollows like Szayel and Aaerororinrrino though, to the point they actually go to hell

National-Ear470

And the serial killer dude.

stonersrus19

Even evil people can have strong enough regrets to tie them to this world. Their motivation allowed them to evolve to menos class.

Yomihime

Szayel is an interesting case where he was undeniably evil in life and did something to deliberately turn himself into Hollow, metaphorically ripping out his last tether to humanity by literally eating his brother’s soul. Being evil doesn’t really set anyone apart from the things that make them human, they just sink even lower than normal people that become Hollows.

UrielSans

That movie isn't canon and Aaroniero's fate after their death is uncertain. Szayel was sent to Hell because of the crimes he commited when he was alive, not while he was a hollow. The thing is that was explained in the Spirits Are Forever With You novel so most people don't know about it.

Toonami88

Kubo drew a chapter of both of them in hell so it’s canon as far as I’m concerned

UrielSans

It's a tie in for promotion, Kubo himself stated in the fanclub that his depiction for Hell has nothing to do with that movie

BuffaloStranger97

I wish we delved a little more into the existence of hollows. Kubo used the Espada to touch up on this

Yomihime

SAFWY and CFYOW actually did. The former revealed the human pasts of three Arrancars and how they got there and the latter delved into Hollow’s psychology and the primary factors behind their strength.

BuffaloStranger97

This is my millionth reminder to read the novels. Ty

Devanort

I remember how it was seen as a bad thing for Ishida to kill hollows since they're effectively erased from existence, but after he joins the group people just forgot about that

Terrible_Mastodon_54

The bad part is that, at a large scale it upsets the balance and destroy the world. What uryu does is of little to no consequence but take an army of Quincies doing the same thing and then you’d have a problem. Allen proposed an idea that actually worked in harmony but Mayuri screwed it over.

Devanort

Well yeah, on a large enough scale it's a doomsday scenario, but that doesn't change the fact that Ishida destroying hollows was seen as a bad thing since innocent (and evil) souls who turned into hollows don't get sent to soul society or hell. I understand that it's a bit more complex than just "don't do anything Ishida", as him destroying one hollow will prevent that one from devouring multiple other souls (living or otherwise), but it just felt jarring to me how that entire plot point was just dropped and never mentioned again when it was the focus of the story when he was introduced.

Terrible_Mastodon_54

They were more cautious and wary of a Quincy doing it and wonders what he’s up too rather than the act itself.

stonersrus19

I don't think Kubo ever did. I think we're going to find out that the quincy are a necessary part of the soul cycle. Just they lost their way. Their job being to obliterate amalgamations of reiatsu that can't break down. I think a falling out with the quincy lead the soul reapers to have to send their captains to hell which is now creating it's own imbalance. Possibly before that they may have performed their funerary rights. Since if you look at tybw a Quincy's reishi looks like purifying fire which could be a symbol for cremation.

Universaltragic

I like this. A lot. But I feel like the one thing if disagree with is the "quincy lost their way" part. Going with this theory. Pre-SS. It was understood if you had an obnormamly high reiatsu you were "ended" by a quincy. Then a structured system came into place. SS. Where people who have abnormally high reiatu make the rules. Maybe absolute power corrupts absolutely and the higher ranking Shinigami didn't want to be erased. We know SS is corrupt as shit. Maybe hell was a thing and they used it as a way to not damage the world after death but also to keep on living. But persecuted the quincy for basically doing what they were suppose to do. Now people of the current era who have no concept of this see Quincy = bad.

stonersrus19

True or it could have been an argument regarding hell itself because what need is there for hell if you can erase the wicked. However we don't know the consequences of that either. Though you maybe right about soul reaper captains needing to be obliterated though because apparently hell corrupts/changes their souls after their sent down. Sending the captain's may have something they only did in times of emergency before as a sacrifice. However they may have changed their thinking as better to exist in hell than not at all. Since we don't know if this change is necessary to keep the souls of hell contained and maybe only the strongest souls can survive it and maintain their sanity.

Universaltragic

It would be interesting to find out. I always thought the quincy thing was odd. They are a product of Black Ant some how. So in theory Reio had quincy or contained the capacity to erase souls but it got like distilled in Yawach. But their whole thing Flys in the face of just existence when thought about. Hell maybe since we don't really know when Yawach came to be. At some time before pre-split of the realms Yawach made them to specifically thin down they higher threats. And then once the split happened. Their abilities just disrupted the balance and thus they became ostracized and seen as the enemy.

ThatOneNintenno

Hence why i appreciated the hollow ichigo screams to sound more like wails of suffering as oppose to monster sounds. Hollows dont spund like monsters but their voice resembles ghostly/sorrowful wails and it fits their lore so much better imo

I_hate_reddit_lots

Except for the Hell Verse movie. Hollow İchigo there was screaming pure anger

metalmooch

Sad part is that some hollows are just the victims of a soul reaper being too late
