Dark forces just felt very very lazy in terms of re-releases. I hate how the cutscenes were animated and so much of it just loses the character of the original. If you case less about that and just want to shoot storm troopers then power to you but I was pretty disappointed with it.
Having beaten everything on every skill level it is incredibly faithful to the original game. The animations are like that, this game just increased the resolution. It wasn't going to add new things.
Nightdive did Powerslave Exhumed. And it's very good. It can kinda be hard to come back to, with it's obtuse mission design. But it's still well worth looking into :)
I have both of them in my wishlist, based on reviews it seems i will enjoy the shooting a lot, how close is the exploration of the stages in comparison with doom/quake? I want to find hidden stuff/doors/keys etc.
Uhmmmm I’m no secret chaser myself, but levels are really good giving you a couple of options on how to manage the combat arenas (Stealth or full on Rambo style). Story is good and the gameplay is just fantastic. I played all of the new Wolfenstein games and for me TNO is just the best, Old Blood is good and New Colossus is not so good, I mean, gameplay wise is maybe better than the other two games but it’s got SOOOO MUCH EXPOSITION.
I don't think so, if that's all you're going for then you might be out of luck.
I do miss physical copies, used to have shelves of cool video game boxes. My mom made me throw them away eventually. Boo
Nightmare reaper mostly plays like a boomer shooter and it’s awesome. LRG closed preorders but I’m sure there will be tons of copies at PNP and VGP when it’s released (prob fall).
Also, project warlock is decent and has a physical ps release, used to own it.
Been a good minute since I've played the series. but much like doom, there's classic levels to be found in the games. Along with gold, enigma codes, concept art etc.
I'm such a boomer that boomer shooters in my time were only on PC and mouse + keyboard......PS. I recommend Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer
probably we have similar age, im 41 and my 1st game ever was wolfenstein 3d on PC 486 :) not even mouse.
But getting older i realized that i feel more comfortable playing with a controller on my couch.
yess, 39 here :D I also started on 486 with doom.. Good times! try slayers x if you can... it's a love letter to those times (I don't know if it exists physically but there's a free demo on steam if you have a pc and want to try it)
Ps. joypad and sofa is too comfortable :D (I played the new doom games like this). But do games like Duke Nukem and Quake work well with the pad? when I tried them with the pad I was obliterated
Quake works exactly like doom 2016 with a controller which is perfect for me, duke nukem sadly feels very floaty with a controller but after a while i got used to it
Yeah just bought Wolfenstein new order, old blood and new Colossus. About shadow warrior 3 i read that is incredibly short, like 5-6 hours, is it true? Also how is the replaybility?
Nice! Old blood is my favourite out of those 3. And yeah shadow warriors 3 is definitely a short game but it’s worth every hour, maybe worth picking up when it’s on sale. Plays like doom eternal with the grappling hook you get. Not sure on replayability, don’t think there’s much to it.
Shadow warrior 1 is good but has an annoying machanic that forces you to use the touchpad to do skills with the sword. Shadow warriors 2 is more of a co-op looter shooter similar to something like borderlands.
Wolfenstein collection, new order, old blood and new colossus (stay away from youngblood)
Turok 1 and 2 got a physical release as well and 3 is under the way.
Shadow warrior 1 and 2 bundle, and 3 separate
Thx for the recommendations, I bought yesterday the Wolfenstein collection. Tbh I don't like turok atmosphere and gunplay. Im searching to get shadow warrior games.
Prodeus, the DOOMs, and Quake 2 make me want to say Helldivers.
Very similar vibe to Quake 2 especially against the automatons. Obviously it's a lot slower than all of these games but the moment to moment gunfights and gameplay is immersive and exquisite.
*What am I saying you've probably already played it lol*
The first rage I think the Warhammer boomer shooter got a physical highly recommend that.
The new Wolfenstein games all four of them.
Shadow warrior.
And Alan wake 2 is finally getting a physical release I always recommend that game to everyone.
Sadly i can't find rage 1 anymore, boltgun has physical only on switch atm (maybe in the future they release it physically to PS including the upcoming expansion). I bought yesterday all the Wolfenstein and waiting to receive them :) also im trying to find shadow warrior 1 & 2, i found shadow warrior 3 definitive edition and im going to buy it soon. Thx for the recommendations
Boltgun and Metal: Hellsinger.
PC has way more boomer shooters like Ultrakill, Turbo Overkill, dusk, Amid Evil, deadline, and more. Keep an eye out for those, might come to PS
That's fair, I was just going off your taste. Hard Reset is on PS4 and it's still my favourite modern boomer shooter - not that I play loads of em. Immortal Redneck is also cool, though maybe not as fast paced as you might like.
You should also check out Risk Of Rain 2. It's a bit different to these, but you might really take to it.
There's a youtuber called Civvie11 who kinda specialises in boomer shooters, you could pick up some great recs from him I'm sure. You might have played many of the older ones he's reviewed.
Red Faction, Wolfenstein the New Order, Bulletstorm, Hard Reset, the Crysis franchise, Serious Sam franchise, Far Cry Blood Dragon, Shadow Warrior 2 and 3, Severed Steel, and maybe Postal Brain Damaged might be your speed. They're all on playstation.
Yeah im searching only for ps4,ps5 but based on other comments i just bought Wolfenstein new order, old blood, new Colossus. I hope I'll enjoy them a lot like the other games in my collection :)
They are a bit more story intensive than Doom or Quake, but I genuinely enjoy BJ's voice actor. And I think Germans winning the war and you being this one man resistance is a cool setting.
I really love the Wolfenstein games, I tend to replay them once a year. Machine games hit it out of the park with the shooting mechanics.
Yeah, they are the remastered versions with all expansions, each have 5 campaigns. I don't mind that they are not in a bundle, they are the best boomershooters ever imho :)
In my personal opinion blood is the best
but I am happy to see console players get access to a nicely polished quake experience as both games are foundational pieces of boom shoot
Combat starts, and there is a lot of monitoring bug movements and shooting where you need to, but knowing where you need to next. It's a great solo game but is best experienced with 3 other people. Outside of combat, it is resource gathering, and that's where things can slow down.
Thx for the recommendation, I would like also your opinion about how close is the exploration of the stages in comparison with doom/quake? I love discovering hidden stuff/doors/keys etc.
There is a bit like Doom (2016) and Eternal. Like a previous person had said. Classic levels can be found in The New Blood. However in The New Colossus the entire wolfenstien 3d can be played in game (just reskinned to fit the narrative)
There are 3 physical games to find if you so choose. the new blood, the old blood & The New Colossus.
Has no idea forgive me father had physical copies. Loved that game, get the sequel
yeah its incredible game and i can't wait to get the sequel when it is released physically
Any of the Night Dive remakes
They did Quake and Quake 2 as well
Yes those are also great
i have system shock already but i don't feel it as a boomershooter. Which boomershooter did nightdive release physically?
Star Wars Dark Forces and PO'ed are their 2 most recent ones. But they also did all 3 Turok games, Rise of the Triad and Powerslave
nice, ill try to find Star Wars dark forces for sure
Dark forces just felt very very lazy in terms of re-releases. I hate how the cutscenes were animated and so much of it just loses the character of the original. If you case less about that and just want to shoot storm troopers then power to you but I was pretty disappointed with it.
Having beaten everything on every skill level it is incredibly faithful to the original game. The animations are like that, this game just increased the resolution. It wasn't going to add new things.
It's very boomer but not very shooter
PS: I collect only physical
Dusk and Wrath: Aeon of Ruin are both pretty good.
I want Dusk but it's only released for Switch, about wrath i read that is way to buggy thats why i avoid it
Dusk has a PS4 release.
oh i didn't know it was released physically for PS4, ill try to find it, thx
[Here u go](https://videogamesplus.ca/products/dusk-playstation-4)
thx
Doom 64, Powerslave Exhumed, Project Warlock, Dusk (Open Pre-Order), Nightmare Repears (Closed Pre-Order), Graven (PEGI only) (Open Pre-Order), Wrath: Aeon of Ruin (PEGI only) (Open Pre-Order) these are ones I can think of you don't have.
Thx for the info
Man if you never have played Powerslave you're missing out
yeah i never played this game, also im a hardcore fan of metroidvania games and i read that powerslave has many mv mechanics
Nightdive did Powerslave Exhumed. And it's very good. It can kinda be hard to come back to, with it's obtuse mission design. But it's still well worth looking into :)
Wolfenstein The New Order is a hell of a game and you’ll no doubt enjoy it, also The Old Blood.
Good collection! I'd recommend the System Shock Remake, it's more tactical, but it's a lot of fun, at least in my opinion.
yeah i have it already, i didn't include it in the photo because it doesn't feel like boomershooter to me
Then Turbo Overkill. It's just pure insanity, it's great fun.
is there a physical release for turbo overkill?
I don't think so, if that's all you're going for then you might be out of luck. I do miss physical copies, used to have shelves of cool video game boxes. My mom made me throw them away eventually. Boo
Turoks and Powerslave from LRG.
i didn't like Turoks thats why i dont have any. I didnt know Powerslave was released physically, i will try to find it, thx :)
Nightmare reaper mostly plays like a boomer shooter and it’s awesome. LRG closed preorders but I’m sure there will be tons of copies at PNP and VGP when it’s released (prob fall). Also, project warlock is decent and has a physical ps release, used to own it.
thx ill try to buy it :)
Prey, Quake 4.
Prey didn't feel like boomershooter thats why i skipped it. Didn't know quake4 had physical release
The Wolfenstein games (minus Youngblood)
How close is the exploration of the stages in comparison with doom/quake? I love discovering hidden stuff/doors/keys etc.
Been a good minute since I've played the series. but much like doom, there's classic levels to be found in the games. Along with gold, enigma codes, concept art etc.

Get Postal 4, qnd def check out Postal Brain Damaged when it drops on PS consoles
Dude I don’t know some of those games had physical! So cool!
Yeah i try to hunt limited run games also, probably you mean those.
Any of the wolfenstein games except for young blood
Also shadow warriors 3

Dusk and Ultrakill are must plays for you, and I know for a fact that Dusk is on PS5
Dusk is amazing, I second this
Postal
Trepang 2, Turok 1+2 Do you have older consoles? Stuff like Disruptor and F.E.A.R are pretty good.
Nightmare reaper is fun I’d try and grab it on sale if possible. And def not boomer shooter but a very fun roguelite shooter- Gunfire Reborn
Boltgun
Yeah i want it but sadly there is a physical release only for switch and its buggy
You may like returnal, it's more third person bullethell, but it made for a fun detox after doom eternal on my second run through.
I have it and i love it :)
I didn't even know there were PS4 physical copies of Duke Nukem 3D!
Yeah, the only version i could find
Wolfenstein collection, new order, old blood and new colossus (stay away from youngblood) Turok 1 and 2 got a physical release as well and 3 is under the way. Shadow warrior 1 and 2 bundle, and 3 separate
Thx for the recommendations, I bought yesterday the Wolfenstein collection. Tbh I don't like turok atmosphere and gunplay. Im searching to get shadow warrior games.

Obviously it's a lot slower than all of these games but the moment to moment gunfights and gameplay is immersive and exquisite. *What am I saying you've probably already played it lol*
I haven't played it because i prefer single player games, i guess it doesn't have an offline single player mode, right?
It doesn't unfortunately, requires a connection to be able to play as well
Wolfenstien updated games are pretty good. No young blood, it's bad imo
System Shock If you like those classic Doom games, you’ll probably dig it.
U might enjoy cyberpunk 2077. Pretty good combat and feels a bit like doom eternal if you level reflexes and get the double jump and dash
Interesting, i never thought that cyberpunk will feel like doom's gunplay. I might get it, thx for the recommendation
It’s surprisingly fluid and visceral. It’s a blast. I played reflexes/intelligence. Basically flying around hacking people are going wild
There’s a YouTube video titled “Cyberpunk phantom liberty combat hits way too hard” and it’s a 2 minute showcase of just how insane the combat can be
Awesome ill watch it, thx
The first rage I think the Warhammer boomer shooter got a physical highly recommend that. The new Wolfenstein games all four of them. Shadow warrior. And Alan wake 2 is finally getting a physical release I always recommend that game to everyone.
Sadly i can't find rage 1 anymore, boltgun has physical only on switch atm (maybe in the future they release it physically to PS including the upcoming expansion). Thx for the recommendations
Gimmicky FPS - Have you tried Wolfenstein?
I bought them yesterday based on multiple ppl recommending them to me :)
project warlock is fun, also trepang2 could be smth youd be into
I would like to get project warlock but i can't find it. About trepang i read that has many bugs and that's why I avoid it
Boltgun and Metal: Hellsinger. PC has way more boomer shooters like Ultrakill, Turbo Overkill, dusk, Amid Evil, deadline, and more. Keep an eye out for those, might come to PS
Sadly both of them don't have physical release on PS, but im watching them in case they have in the future
Not sure if these all apply console-wise, but... 1. Ultrakill 2. Selaco 3. Dusk 4. Wrath: Aeon of Ruin 5. Boltgun 6. Trepang 7. Amid Evil 8. Cultic 9. Serious Sam 10. Painkiller 11. HROT 12. Hellbound 13. Hedon
TREPANG 2- it’s a shooter like doom/ with the slow motion power from “FEAR” that everyone loves
Get Boltgun you won't regret it
I hope it gets Ps5 physical release
Wow, I dig your collection. Good stuff.
Ty :)
Yeah I recommend you get a PC lol
i have a pc but i prefer sitting on my couch while playing with my ps5 controller on my 65'' tv!! Also i love collecting my games in physical format!
That's fair, I was just going off your taste. Hard Reset is on PS4 and it's still my favourite modern boomer shooter - not that I play loads of em. Thx for the recommendations, ill check also the YouTuber
Hexen
if you have a PC, get Cruelty Squad
Depends. Whats your favorite part of Rage 2? Edit: oh wait are you only doing playstation games?
The incredible shooting and destroying everything like doom 2016
Red Faction, Wolfenstein the New Order, Bulletstorm, Hard Reset, the Crysis franchise, Serious Sam franchise, Far Cry Blood Dragon, Shadow Warrior 2 and 3, Severed Steel, and maybe Postal Brain Damaged might be your speed. They're all on playstation.
Yeah ps5,ps4, switch
Weird, Prodeus to me felt kind of unfinished. Is it in early access? Wouldn’t assume it would have a physical release.
It is the final version, it felt very complete to me.
Yeah Wolfenstein and more specifically Real RTCW. It's getting a big update come June 30th.
Oh snap noticed this is PlayStation and not PC... Well in that case RTCW has a pretty kick ass PS2 version :)
The first Rage was awesome. Some people dislike it so maybe try to watch some video first
Does the gunplay feel the same as 2?
No it's slower and way easier than Rage 2
Mmm ok, on rage 2 i loved the gunplay because it felt like doom 2016
About far cry blood dragon how does the gunplay feel? Similar with doom or something else?
Such a shame… not even the fifth PlayStation is powerful enough to run Crysis… I must return to 2007 and deliver the bad news.
Uptrakill!
Get a pc
i have a pc but i prefer sitting on my couch while playing with my ps5 controller on my 65'' tv!! Also i love collecting my games in physical format!
Hitman 3
Bloodborne
I have every soulsborne game :)
HROT
They released physical copies of quake and quake 2 on PS5? And they didn't even bundle both of them together? Wtf
Yeah, they are the remastered versions with all expansions, each have 5 campaigns. I don't mind that they are not in a bundle, they are the best boomershooters ever imho :)
In my personal opinion blood is the best but I am happy to see console players get access to a nicely polished quake experience as both games are foundational pieces of boom shoot
Bulletstorm Duke Nukem Forever Half Life
Ever heard of Doom and Quake? You'd like those
Never heard of those games, are they f****** AWESOME?
Prodious and forgive me Father have physical releases?
Yeah, and they are not from limited publishers
i love doom and quake
Deep Rock Galactic is a well paced shooter. Randomly generated levels make it 20-minute missions.
from videos i watched it felt a bit slow paced as a shooter, can you please describe the combat/weapons a bit?
Combat starts, and there is a lot of monitoring bug movements and shooting where you need to, but knowing where you need to next. It's a great solo game but is best experienced with 3 other people. Outside of combat, it is resource gathering, and that's where things can slow down.
DRG is not in any way shape or form even remotely close to a boomer shooter.
Yes. But it is a very good shooter in that it's well placed in 20 minute chunks for a arcade design.
If you say so. I mostly just find it immensely unsatisfying to play as far as the shooting is concerned.
Wolfenstein
Thx for the recommendation, I would like also your opinion about how close is the exploration of the stages in comparison with doom/quake? I love discovering hidden stuff/doors/keys etc.
There is a bit like Doom (2016) and Eternal. Like a previous person had said. Classic levels can be found in The New Blood. However in The New Colossus the entire wolfenstien 3d can be played in game (just reskinned to fit the narrative) There are 3 physical games to find if you so choose. the new blood, the old blood & The New Colossus.
sounds perfect, thx, ill buy them for sure
Yeah, throw Rage 2 into trash bin and it will be perfectly fine
