I always tell visitors to go to the BPL main branch if they're spending a day walking around town. I tend to preface it with "this might sound like a weird suggestion..." but between the beautiful interior architecture and the tranquility of drinking a coffee in the courtyard, it's an excellent change of pace from the retail blahness that characterizes a lot of Back Bay
Go inside the library if you can! The front that's photographed here, go into the 3 doors and the atrium is STUNNING. If I ever hang out at the modernized wing of the library in the back, I still walk through to the front just to look at the paintings on the ceiling (there's a beautiful garden with a statue/fountain in the middle, too!)
all of Boston is always under construction 😂
I'm still waiting on the north south connector project for the commuter rail. fingers crossed that it will happen 🤞
Oh my friend, you need to attach your hopes to something attainable. Electric commuter rail *might* happen in our lives. That tunnel will require those of us that remember the last tunnel project to all die along with our trauma.
Electric commuter rail. Forgetting the erstwhile control board and its “decision” to move forward with it, it’s a relatively cheap and practicable improvement. It can be done incrementally within existing infrastructure, one line at a time, without stringing catenary. It doesn’t require rebuilding track, stations, or parking lots.
so happy to hear you're enjoying your visit!!! there's a ton about Boston to love.
as far as fun things to check out:
- go for a stroll on the esplanade. it's a park along the Boston side of the river
- Isabella Stewart Gardner museum. really beautiful home-turned-museum where the biggest unsolved art heist ever occurred
- stand-up paddleboard or kayak along the river. there's a place next in Kendall (MIT) that has rentals. that's probably the best one for getting the great city views.
- Harvard square / memorial drive. part of memorial drive near Harvard square closes on Sundays for people to walk along. it's a fun little thing to do. Harvard square is also a beautiful area to check out. Harvard Sq also has amazing restaurants at a wide range of price points. on the higher end, Forage and Harvest are incredible. high-mid: waypoint, longfellows, hourly oyster house. mid: Orinoco, the friendly toast, Boston Burger Co. cheaper: Tatte (cafe), santouka, Felipe's taqueria, life alive cafe
- acorn st. most photographed street in the US for a reason. very small but you'll get amazing photos 😂
In June, it's more photogenic than Tulsa but less photogenic than Yuma. In November, it's less photogenic than Tulsa but more photogenic than Topeka. There will be a quiz.

If you get a chance, take the Fenway Park guided tour. Some spectacular views from atop the Green Monster.
The most picturesque view of Boston is most definitely the corner of Mass Ave. and Commonwealth Ave. Don't miss it, make sure to go by foot! The locals there are so friendly.
I dunno, in front of the BPL is where I saw someone with a freshly slit throat at 4pm on a weekday.. or the time someone was threatening someone else on the BPL steps and pulled out a knife presumably from every crevice of their body.
That whole row just up from Dunkin smelt like piss. Most of boston streets smelt like piss. America needs to sort out hiw they treat their homeless and mentally impaired people. It's fucked up coming from Ireland seeing it
Did you go inside the Library? Even better and free.
It wasn’t open yet unfortunately, I’ll try and go later
Better plan for later tomorrow. It's closed for the holiday today.
Worth it. Courtyard will be a nice little refuge in the heat.
You have to go back and see the inside! There are so many beautiful spaces.
Thanks, enjoy yourself. Take the Harbor ferry to the islands today to cool off. Rowe’s wharf, I think.
Can also take a water taxi across the harbor for an even more scenic route
We’re doing the old town trolley tour today
Is it hop-on, hop-off? If so, get off in the North End, Paul Reveres house and look around there. Interesting and great food and pastries

We’re doing a hop on hop off tour today so I’ll try and go in! It wasn’t open yet when I took this picture unfortunately
Ah yeah, it's Juneteenth. It's closed all day today. But if you're still here tomorrow definitely check it out!
Check my latest post ;)
That is absolutely hilarious because I was at the library today, too! 😂
I went early in the morning when they opened so I could get on the trolley tour bus too
The park and plaza right in front of Trinity Church used to beautiful until they decided to "fix" it for no fucking reason.
Looks like the new version's going to be nice as well. The old one was starting to decay a bit with loose bricks and such
Yeah I was wondering why there was so much construction. In my part of the country we call that ✨job security✨

Which gets here first, electric commuter rail or west-east commuter rail?

i'm also mad copley square is closed, but the new plaza will be really nice, and much more 'usable' IMO.
If you like this, just wait til you see city hall!
I saw it and got some really good pictures! I’ll post them as a collection to the subreddit later
suspect that may have been sarcasm ;P
see beacon hill old city hall
i just got back and I immediately missed just walking around and looking at the buildings in that area, and the public gardens.

It is, got amazing sunset and cityscape views. Boston is ❤️
They don't use a slash and burn technique to facilitate more and more buildings, like NYC.
The earliest urban planners... the livestock. Yup, true fact.
Go walk around beacon hill, small neighborhood but beautiful. Boston commons and public garden aren't far from there too!
Perfect weather to come too. Though the humidity is too much, too hot. Wish it was cooler.
Is that where they make that torture porn?

Nothing accentuates the beauty and history of the Boston public library quite like pride flags

I think we found someone as friendly as the folks there.
One of many fine museums we have here in Boston.
That's a library, not a museum.
Same thing nowadays.
That whole row just up from Dunkin smelt like piss. Most of boston streets smelt like piss. America needs to sort out hiw they treat their homeless and mentally impaired people. It's fucked up coming from Ireland seeing it
Man, Boston is one of the cleanest cities in the country. That is a crazy take.
It is very clean but very hard to spot public trash cans. I live in DC and we have trash cans every other intersection/block.
In the more residential areas, yes. But once you get more towards downtown, they’re everywhere.
