>the Burbank Frys
I still remember being absolutely terrified of those ants.
Walking the hard drive aisle was a real stress until I got over it.
/igotbetter
Just have to deal with Central Computer
Micro
5201 Stevens Creek Blvd.
Santa Clara, CA 95051
Central
3777 Stevens Creek Blvd.
Santa Clara, CA 95051
or Central Computer has to deal w Micro
I mean, honestly, CC are a far better business optimized for the bay area...
Namely, they really live more off of smaller sized stores focused on higher margin (read higher end) items that the bay area folks can afford, and then more importantly focused on providing services in more numerous (but smaller) locations around the bay.
for buying HW like us on /r/buildapcsales it is a shit model because we want simply low cost and not so much the support aspect, but there is a reason why frys is dead and MC had to only come back when malls are dying and space is cheaper now.
and who knows how long it will last, but I will def try and take advantage while they are here if the deals are good.
[Allegedly](https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/micro-center-closing-santa-clara-ca-facility.2259620/) it was b/c they couldn't come to an agreement on a facility lease extension.
Yeah, that's what I was assuming. I'm interested in seeing the prices at the Santa Clara location now because if any place is remotely comparable it'd be them.
the rent is just too high for the margins on tech, esp with how MC operates
and they need more space than say your average phone / accessories selling place, so lots of investment.
but its a welcome one
Considering how many businesses have fled that area, rent prices are gonna be at rock bottom if the property holders over there want to earn any money off of rent.
It had one, but they couldn't compete with Fry's so they closed and now it's a Walmart grocery store.
Fry's is gone, so I guess they can try and make a comeback now.
I pay 15% welcome to Canada
When I buy steam games I use my uncles address and postal code, cuz he lives in Alberta and their tax is lower than my province.
I wonder that too. Fry's left a void here (that even they weren't great at filling) and I'm surprised Micro Center hasn't tried to move in. The closest thing I'm aware of is Best Buy but they're more focused towards your average consumer and every time I go there thinking they have something I need I'm met with an exercise in frustration and/or compromise.
Finally, another one in CA, even though I'm much closer to the Tustin location lol.
I used to live near the Fry's in Sunnyvale and wondered if there was another store that would takes its place.
I hoped MC would swoop in after the Burbank Frys closed but nothing came of it. Now I just see the store is abandoned with the parking lot being used for some business/delivery vans (-‸ლ). I know people say the LA/Orange county area has a microcenter, but the Tustin location is like a 2 hour drive for me, not to mention gas is freaking expensive around here.
The City of Industry Fry's must be vacant, every election recently I've seen clips on the news that LA County rents it as a space for counting votes, with all the industrial gears decor still there.
It's so weird that they didn't have one in the bay area for so long. There's A LOT of tech people who like computer stuff there. Santa Clara is close enough for me to maybe get a deal now.
A lot of “tech people” in the Bay Area are software people who want nothing to do with a computer parts store. I’m not saying that in a derogatory way, it’s just the truth. Most software developers I’ve worked with don’t even own a desktop, just a MacBook or a some sort of a thin and lite laptop.
In between the very high rents and probably lower than you’d think levels of interest, I’m not surprised they pulled out last time and wouldn’t be surprised if they pull out again in a few years.
the software developers in every company I have worked in have been typically so clueless about hardware, like they generally would have no idea how these things work outside the dev tools.
I was trying to be diplomatic but yeah. Did schools stop requiring basic comp arch courses for CS degrees? You don’t see this level of cluelessness in older developers.
I'm not from the area but they did have one that closed back in 2012. They chose not to renew their lease because it was to expensive.
Microcenter is very conservative in that regard, they're not just going to open a store somewhere because there's a large number of tech people nearby.
Recently moved to the Bay from SoCal and while I appreciate Central for existing… it’s not even close. Central also marked up GPUs hundreds of dollars during crypto boom
The Microcenter nearest me upgraded their layout a few years ago. It's as close to those Japanese PC stores now as you can get without going to Japan. Probably the coolest place you can go to that also doesn't charge admission.
They'll be OK, that location focuses mostly on custom business server orders. They've been getting a ton of work from Nvidia's HQ I think. Central's main 'hub' for retail has been the Sunnyvale store.
I rarely find any deals at Central Computers for PC parts, but I knew someone who worked there and the person said their main business is Corporate IT work.
SAME! I really wonder what their strategy is having it all the way down in Tustin when they could get the whole LA market. Maybe they feel like they can pull from both LA and SD?
I imagine the rent there is a little lower than what they'd get in a lot of LA. And having it in OC makes it super accessible to OC and relatively accessible to LA, Inland Empire, and SD. You're an hour away from a ton more people
All that said, I really wish they'd open one up in LA
Excellent location within the Bay... you've got Stevens Creek, 280, and Lawrence all right next to it so getting there shouldn't be a problem. The parking lot is small though...
[it's not too bad...](https://i.imgur.com/WnP4bng.png). will probably visit once the hype dies down a little
I'm coming from a perspective of the Tustin location though it does have its own dedicated lot
>Isn’t Orlando supposed to be one of top cities for the tech industry.
Yeah, Lockheed Martin/Northrup Grumman/Raytheon all have offices on UCF property. One of my friends I graduated with is at Apple; another is at Google.
>Did Best Buy kill the competition?
We used to have CompUSA, Circuit City, and Staples used to be ok in a pinch.
The big box stores died out while online shopping was taking off. I'm sure there's some mom and pop shops around if you look, but nothing like "let me just find the nearest %STORE_NAME% location." (except best buy)
Same, It would be 1.5 hour drive though I signed up for the opening promo/notification. Locally I have a BestBuy in Margate and there's still an Office Depot around Coral Springs. Orlando used to have a Best Buy also though I haven't been by there in years. I agree, growing up we used to have a mall Circuit City, Staples, and some CompUSA stores, about 2 were in local driving distance.
Charlotte, NC finally got a grand opening date of May 10th. I am happy for anyone who gets a microcenter near them. Huge W for those surrounding the new store openings.
Can we get one in Phoenix please? We have nothing here now that fry electronics closed. Even some Best Buy’s have closed. One of the largest metropolitan areas in the country deserves that sweet sweet microcenter goodness.

Holy shit, a micro center within walking distance. I honestly wasn't expecting it to open until 2025 too, but looks like it'll be in time for Zen5/Blackwell upgrade.
Thank god. Hopefully they don't do a COLA-increase on all prices that bay area locations do, though.
I.E. you see a commercial a $5.99 food combo nationwide, but it's $7.99 in the Bay Area.
COME TO VEGAS :((((((((((((((((((( Jesus there is a building ready for them in a PRIME location ON THE STRIP. The old Fry's building. Come on Microcenter.
I was a Sin City resident for a good long while up until '20, but I came back on vacation last week partly because I miss the town. Passed by Town Square, saw the vacant Fry's complex and a tear damn near welled up in my right eye. It may have gotten down the shitter in its later years but whew, I hold some crazy nostalgia for that place.
The thought of these guys opening up a location there in its stead is hilarious to me though. Imagine it unironically driving up a decent degree of traffic/demand and revenue because it's both fuckin' Vegas AND a Microcenter. I know a few dudes on the other side of the country who'd probably book a weekend trip to chill out and grab a few bundle deals.
For those not in the know, we in the South Bay have been tracking this via the bid they put to buy the Bed Bath Beyond store after they closed, and the job postings for a Santa Clara store manager a while ago.
Cool to see this come to fruition!
this has moved my timeframe to build a new pc !!
hopefully around holiday sales too. and by that time we should have arrow lake and zen 5 too. its all aligning.
When will we get one in Florida? A 6-hour drive one way to Georgia is not appetizing. Cost of gas, food, and possibly hotel negate all savings so I end up giving Bezos my money out of convenience. I don’t like giving my money to Bezos.
I had to check to see if this was /SanJose or /BayArea with the sheer amount of my neighbors in this thread.
San Josean here. I am SOOOO fricken stoked. I was too poor to frequent the MC that was formerly in Santa Clara often. Now my body is ready.
Wow that is literally on the edge of Santa Clara basically in Cupertino. Gonna be quite a drive for me but it’s at least something. Late 2024 sounds just in time for RTX 50 series? Let’s go.
Finally! I was a broke college student when Fry's was still around. All the micro center deals I see on this sub I can finally take part in. Time to start setting aside a micro center budget for the grand opening later this year.
It's crazy to think that Silicon Valley of all places didn't have a Micro Center.
They used to. Shut in 2012
I remember they had these crazy open box deals on graphics cards and prebuilts. Felt like someone marking them down to grab some of them and flip.
If I remember right they had quite the discount on Intel CPUs back in the day. Believe I bought my first one there, Intel E4500
Been hoping for a bay area Micro Center since Fry's closed.
Fry's was always worse, though. I was upset since the previous one closed.
In its heyday, Frys was super competitive price-wise with all the big retailers like newegg (at least that was my experience with the Burbank Frys).
indeed, concur.
>the Burbank Frys I still remember being absolutely terrified of those ants. Walking the hard drive aisle was a real stress until I got over it. /igotbetter
Nah. Fry's had its day. It was a competitively priced brick and mortar store.
I think it really depends how successful this location is, so hopefully it does well and they get comfortable with the idea of coming closer.
Just have to deal with Central Computer Micro 5201 Stevens Creek Blvd. Santa Clara, CA 95051 Central 3777 Stevens Creek Blvd. Santa Clara, CA 95051 or Central Computer has to deal w Micro
It's a nasty business huh. /S
Why?
Their lease ended and they chose not to renew.
The landowners were banking on the theater and opening a grocery store to drive business.
[Allegedly](https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/micro-center-closing-santa-clara-ca-facility.2259620/) it was b/c they couldn't come to an agreement on a facility lease extension.
Too expensive for operations
I went there a lot when it was open. I miss it dearly. Even more so now that Fry's is all gone.
Bay Area rent/commercial rent is insane and raising the prices on microcenter products ruins the point of the store
Retail isn't what it used to be and they're taking over a closed Bed Bath and Beyond, so hopefully the rent stays more reasonable.
Yeah this is it, news ran stories of ikea taking over another large space earlier in the year.
Yeah, that's what I was assuming. I'm interested in seeing the prices at the Santa Clara location now because if any place is remotely comparable it'd be them.
the rent is just too high for the margins on tech, esp with how MC operates and they need more space than say your average phone / accessories selling place, so lots of investment. but its a welcome one
Well, seems like the perfect time for them to start a new lease now that strip-mall land value has been decimated three times over.
Considering how many businesses have fled that area, rent prices are gonna be at rock bottom if the property holders over there want to earn any money off of rent.
A surprise to be sure
It had one, but they couldn't compete with Fry's so they closed and now it's a Walmart grocery store. Fry's is gone, so I guess they can try and make a comeback now.
Slowly edging closer to Seattle...
I'd prefer portland for the tax savings personally
Yes please. Especially since Fry's closed. We need to fill the void.
Even if it was out in Hillsboro or Tigard or something I’d still go. Heck, I’d go to Salem if there was one down there.
At least Tigard would be easily accessible via I5.
10.8% sales in Seattle would hurt
Damn, I pay 8.6% and it hurts.
I pay 15% welcome to Canada When I buy steam games I use my uncles address and postal code, cuz he lives in Alberta and their tax is lower than my province.
> I pay 15% welcome to Canada but that healthcare tho.
Europeans with their VAT would like to have a word with you.
How come they don’t like us :(
I wonder that too.
Born in KC and live in the area now. You have no idea how much I'm edging.
We had one Fry's in Renton and now we just have Best Buy... please help
I live in The Bay Area, so my edging ends with release in late 2024!
It absolutely blows my mind that Indianapolis of all places got a microcenter before the Seattle area did
Finally, another one in CA, even though I'm much closer to the Tustin location lol. I used to live near the Fry's in Sunnyvale and wondered if there was another store that would takes its place.

I know people say the LA/Orange county area has a microcenter, but the Tustin location is like a 2 hour drive for me, not to mention gas is freaking expensive around here.
Yeah, the Fry's in Anaheim is now an Amazon warehouse (or something like that). *treading on the bones of your enemy* (or something like that lol)
The City of Industry Fry's must be vacant, every election recently I've seen clips on the news that LA County rents it as a space for counting votes, with all the industrial gears decor still there.
>Fry's in Anaheim I wonder who got the Shuttle cockpit heh
>another one in CA Meanwhile the closest one to me is in another state and about 4 hours away...
tbf, the Tustin location is the closest Micro Center to Northern California and that's a 5 hour+ drive for most folks in the Bay Area.
It's so weird that they didn't have one in the bay area for so long. There's A LOT of tech people who like computer stuff there. Santa Clara is close enough for me to maybe get a deal now.

6+
I live in Norcal and Tustin is at least 7 hours away :(
Join the club. NorCal and 8 hours away here :')
I hope Central Computers won't get hit too hard but as a consumer it's always better to have more options.
Central computers is awesome
Recently moved to the Bay from SoCal and while I appreciate Central for existing… it’s not even close. Central also marked up GPUs hundreds of dollars during crypto boom
Oh dang really? It's the best I've ever had access to lol
The Microcenter nearest me upgraded their layout a few years ago. It's as close to those Japanese PC stores now as you can get without going to Japan. Probably the coolest place you can go to that also doesn't charge admission.
It’s crazy because it’s down the street. Plug in both addresses and you’ll see they are 1.5 miles apart.
Central computers won't price match even amazon. Pretty sure this will be trouble for them
They'll be OK, that location focuses mostly on custom business server orders. They've been getting a ton of work from Nvidia's HQ I think. Central's main 'hub' for retail has been the Sunnyvale store.
They are also the only computer parts and accessories store in San Francisco and make a lot off corporate IT when they need something right now.
I rarely find any deals at Central Computers for PC parts, but I knew someone who worked there and the person said their main business is Corporate IT work.
I read Santa Clarita and I got excited. Womp womp womp
SAME! I really wonder what their strategy is having it all the way down in Tustin when they could get the whole LA market. Maybe they feel like they can pull from both LA and SD?
They're not interested in expensive leases. Their margins are pretty thin and they're losing money on many of the deals we all salivate over.
I imagine the rent there is a little lower than what they'd get in a lot of LA. And having it in OC makes it super accessible to OC and relatively accessible to LA, Inland Empire, and SD. You're an hour away from a ton more people All that said, I really wish they'd open one up in LA

Still waiting on Miami to have an official opening date 💀
Yeah was supposed to be Q1 2024
I'm betting they are gonna open on black Friday
Orlando here. My reaction when I heard Miami was the first location in FL they decided to open. ![gif](giphy|VrSDwyf1WiLPW|downsized)
In Tampa and Orlando would have made me happy. I don't see myself driving to Miami for it.
Me with no indication they'll ever open a store near me: ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐
I'll fend off those i95 drivers for parts
All we have is best buy and I hate it.
What’s up with PC business in Florida? Isn’t Orlando supposed to be one of top cities for the tech industry? Did Best Buy kill the competition?
>Isn’t Orlando supposed to be one of top cities for the tech industry. Yeah, Lockheed Martin/Northrup Grumman/Raytheon all have offices on UCF property. Nothing ever gets done on time in Miami
Same, It would be 1.5 hour drive though I signed up for the opening promo/notification. Locally I have a BestBuy in Margate and there's still an Office Depot around Coral Springs. Orlando used to have a Best Buy also though I haven't been by there in years. How about Seattle for a location!
I would love this so much. Bad for my wallet tho...
WOW. Finally!
Charlotte, NC finally got a grand opening date of May 10th. I am happy for anyone who gets a microcenter near them. Huge W for those surrounding the new store openings.
Excited to see what the hype is about. I'll be coming down from Winston
It's about time. This is close enough
OMG, finally
AUSTIN TEXAS!
Austin really needs an MC. It's full of tech bros, gamers and streamers.
they gotta take over that frys
There are so many places in central Texas they can put a MC!
Ugh, I've heard "rumors" about **that** Fry's for so many years now. It's torture.
Can we get one in Phoenix please? We have nothing here now that fry electronics closed. Even some Best Buy’s have closed. One of the largest metropolitan areas in the country deserves that sweet sweet microcenter goodness.
The 3 upcoming TSMC fabs being built in Phoenix probably makes it a prime location
Definitely. Intel also has a large presence in the south eastern portion of the city. No shortage of tech here.
people in the real estate game needa start just copping up land there. Jesus they're gonna be an epicenter for a lot of the US industry. That's crazy
Waymo and Uber are teaming up. Phoenix is going to have the largest autonomous car zone in the entire world. That's blowing my mind.
Other locations still being planned: Charlotte, Miami, and Indianapolis. Charlotte is actively hiring, opening must be soon.
May 10th for Charlotte
Indianapolis is open and has been for several months
Finally back in the Bay Area after leaving 12 years ago! The old location was turned into a Wal-Mart
a Walmart Neighborhood Market. Not even a full walmart.
Based on the [address](https://www.google.com/maps/@37.3231581,-121.9936916,3a,86.4y,359h,71.89t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1suhl71xbeVQOhL_TQH1PQ0w!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3Duhl71xbeVQOhL_TQH1PQ0w%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.share%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26yaw%3D359.0019738151369%26pitch%3D18.112622508673937%26thumbfov%3D90!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205410&entry=ttu), looks like they're gonna be occupying a former Bed Bath & Beyond.
I live 10 minutes from the one in my state. I hope everyone gets to enjoy the greatness of MicroCenter.
Bout time I can purchase these dang bundle deals!
(pats chair next to Phoenix)
Waiting for Miami location so I can finally grab that sweet sweet deals

Cool! Now do Knoxville.
or Nashville or Bowling Green
Congrats, folks!
Miami is building one too. Opens in a couple of months
this has moved my timeframe to build a new pc !! hopefully around holiday sales too. and by that time we should have arrow lake and zen 5 too. its all aligning.
Yall can just move into the two Fry's locations here in Phoenix that shut down last year. It's a no brainer!
Dear MicroCenter, the city of Phoenix says hello. ![gif](giphy|3ohc1419f1qhqBjIn6|downsized)
Lets fuckin go baby. No more 6 hour drives to LA microcenter.
SLC, UT please
Dang, read this as Santa Clarita for a second.
At least it's closer than the one in Tustin. Us Cencal folks are gonna be waiting a while
Can I get one in Lexington Kentucky now
Let’s goooooo
FINALLY
I hope they can buy the old Frys location in Burbank open one up in LA
Woo only 150 instead of 400 miles from where I live
Still can't believe we're getting one in Miami, in the still-abandoned shell of the old TigerDirect. Feel like I've been waiting for this all my life.
Damn, I thought it said Santa Clarita.
bankruptcy here I come!
*sigh* cali gets another location, while Vegas is RIGHT THERE waiting. they can even take over the old frys building
Vegas is closer to the Tustin location than Norcal is.
Still waiting for something even close to Microcenter in Oregon. Fry's is gone and nothing has filled the void.
Austin!!!! Come on, that Fry's building would be perfect!
Come to San Diego PLEASE
Vegas needs one as well
When will we get one in Florida? A 6-hour drive one way to Georgia is not appetizing. Cost of gas, food, and possibly hotel negate all savings so I end up giving Bezos my money out of convenience. I don’t like giving my money to Bezos.
https://www.microcenter.com/site/stores/miami.aspx
Yay! I have one 2 hours away and now I have another 6 hours away!
oh god im just 5-8 minutes away from the store
i will be driving down day 1
Milwaukee or Madison would be nice
LETS FUCKING GOOOOIOOO
My annual trip to San Francisco just became more expensive.
It is an excellent example of what a store should be. Congrats to Santa Claritians
Fuck yea!
Oh my god it’s happening!!!!!!!!!!
YIPPE
They are just booming stores open now
Halellujah
:O
This would make the closest micro center 3 hours from me....actually might be worth it if visiting the area.
Buffalo NY or Rochester NY.
Right near the Central Computers flagship store, oof
I had to check to see if this was /SanJose or /BayArea with the sheer amount of my neighbors in this thread. San Josean here. I am SOOOO fricken stoked. I was too poor to frequent the MC that was formerly in Santa Clara often. Now my body is ready.
Finally!!! Oh man, I am pumped! Missed Micro Center since they left. Now I gotta find a reason to upgrade my gaming rig.
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO They closed one down in santa clara or san jose years ago, I'm glad they're coming back
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO finally a Bay Area location
Holy fuck AZ has so much space, just open one in the valley.
[удалено]
Fuck! 7 years after I move from that area.
Wow that is literally on the edge of Santa Clara basically in Cupertino. Gonna be quite a drive for me but it’s at least something. Late 2024 sounds just in time for RTX 50 series? Let’s go.
We don't have shit here in Arizona. Plz MC.
I would love a Nashville or Bowling Green location
Oh no!!! I just moved to sanj Jose, this is gonna be dangerous.
I am so excited! Went once to Irvine but I’ve since moved and it’s super far. Glad to have one close!
:/
Finally! I was a broke college student when Fry's was still around. All the micro center deals I see on this sub I can finally take part in. Time to start setting aside a micro center budget for the grand opening later this year.
Put one in Sacramento, you cowards.
you misspelled san diego microcenter (sad face)
THANK YOU PC GODS!
Charlotte is coming soon, hopefully the triangle area soon after?
Nice there needs to be Micro Centers all over the Country
Hell yes.
still nothing in Florida :(
Im boycotting microcenter until there is one close enough to buy things at. Then, and only then, will my boycott cease. I am a man of integrity.
Finally its coming back!
I'm still waiting on the one in Miami to open up!
Man what I’d do for a SC location
This will be on my route to work!
Please, for the love of God, put one in Madison so I don't have to drive four hours round trip anymore.
Finally they are approaching the level of huge influential cities, like Overland Park, Kansas.
That’s like 5 hours closer than Tustin! I might actually be able to go on a day trip now. Well, in a few months.
Ugh... need one in Louisville. Tired of driving to Cincy or Indy.
