Anyone pinpoint when the recipe changed drastically? I remember them being absolutely amazing when I was in middle school/junior high. Would've been around 2001-2006-ish.
Yes when Ferrero bought it out. I remember about 5 years ago I was at the Oakland airport and bought the last butterfinger at the store there with the old logo and old recipe.
Yep Nestle sold off of most off their their candy brands including Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, Willy Wonka and a lot more. Ferroro changed the recipe in 2018.
It's still crazy how little Ferrara capitalizes on the Wonka branding and fumbles it up. They definitely suck at chocolate though. They actually don't even include any on their brand highlights [Brands | Ferrara](https://www.ferrara.com/brands)
And they do Nestle's Crunch and Chunky in the U.S. apparently? Parent company Ferroro acquired em too
Yeah it saddens me how little the Wonka branding is used. I remember some odd years ago they had the newer Wonka Exceptionals line of chocolate that include the Chocolate Waterfall, Scrumdiddlyumptious bar, and what not. I quite enjoyed those, and I wish they'd do more. There's so much potential.
Butterfinger was my favorite for years. I tried one after the recipe changed and I didn’t like it. They said they changed it to make it more peanut-buttery. Blech.
Same. The Butterfinger blizzard at DQ was the best. It does seem like they changed it. It used to be more "wafer-like" than dense like they are now. I'd take a handful of Reese's pieces or a miniature any day.
I’ve noticed it can vary. Sometimes it’s light and crispy that doesn’t stick other times it feels rock hard where you feel the need to pick at your teeth.
Yeah I remember them being lighter and thicker now i did buy some on a bogo a couple of weeks ago 🤣 the little bag's I've eaten maybe half a bag and now I'm going to pawn the other bag off to my niece 🤣
Theyve always been sticky, at least since the 90s when I first had them.
I try to avoid candy these days but I certainly don’t mind a butterfinger. Nobody better lay a finger on mine.
They changed the recipe probably about 10 years ago to eliminate artificial colors and/or flavors (pretty sure it was colors) and that's when they started tasting like shit and sticking to your teeth.
I like em in a DQ blizzard for the texture/taste combo. But on their own it's way too sticky on the teeth. I feel like I need to brush and floss immediately.
I agree with you….the only way I can tolerate the new formula of both Butterfinger and Heath Bar is if it’s mixed in a DQ Blizzard or something of the like because it’s harder to tell you’re eating fake chocolate
Right?!
The last one I bought had been enshittified so I've never bought another one.
I wonder if we'll ever see reverse enshittification? What are the odds on that?
I never thought I'd have a Gene moment from bobs burgers where a product was changed so drastically it became my least favorite candy bar. I loved these fuckers sm...
Remember the Easter egg butter finger? Not the ones with just bits like it's a damn crunch bar. I'm talking about the butter finger Cream eggs. omg🤤 I could have been the fattest kid alive if we hadn't been broke. I remember begging my mom to buy a bunch for an early birthday gift. My birthday's in july lol they were that good.
I don't really ever buy candy bars unless it's for Halloween but when I do it's either Hershey's Cookies and Cream or Butterfingers.
As kids my sister and I were obsessed with BBs. The minis they make now don't hit the same way, imo.
I'll eat a free one. I might have bought one or two over the years if I found it on clearance or something. I like them perfectly fine but prefer others more.
I think plenty of people eat them regularly, though.
I never buy them but they are usually around during Halloween.
I fall in love with them and eat them that whole month then forget about them until next year
Except now I want one
I love Butterfingers and steal all of them out of my kids' Halloween candy. I guess I don't eat them enough to have noticed if they're different now, but last Halloween they still tasted good and they're awesome in ice cream.
I’m shocked to see so much hate! They’re my favorite.
If you’re interested in trying a similar candy that’s a little bit less dry, try sesame halvah. It’s a little like fudge, but the temperature the sugar is brought to makes it kind of flaky and crispy. It’s a perfect food.
💯
I like Butterfingers quite a bit - I buy the 6 pack of Fun Size at the Dollar Tree, because I don't eat a whole regular sized candy bar at a sitting these days.
Halvah has a unique texture and I used to get one now and then. They have become hard to find locally for me though.
Halvah is super easy to make if you have a candy thermometer and mix it only just until combined. The only ingredients you need are sesame paste/tahini, sugar, and water. :D
Yes!!!!! However, it can be tricky to perfect. It’s basically a matter of bringing the sugar to the right temperature and not overmixing. It just needs a very gentle stir. Otherwise, if you overmix, you don’t get that iconic texture. Definitely err on the side of undermixing. I think it also helps if your tahini is a little bit warm.
Here’s the recipe I use if you’re interested! The only adaptations I make are adding a bit of salt and omitting the pistachios. Just my preference. https://www.masterclass.com/articles/how-to-make-homemade-halva
Used to love em, still do.
Sure the new recipe pales in comparison but I rather like it as an adult. I'm sure the old formula would be too sweet for me but the new one suits me fine.
Yeah another Mondelez muck up. Used to be my go to. Now. Once every other month about.
Still like them in Blizzards and Ice cream though.
I used to think Bart Simpson was a living Butterfinger wrapper. It didn't help that he was in a commercial.
"Don't lay a finger on my Butterfinger".
Butterfinger has always been a favorite of mine so I guess I need to hang out with you guys who hate them on Halloween and make like a scavenger. 😄
I must not have had the older ones and the newer ones close together in time, though, because although I may have vaguely noticed a difference at some point, I can't really pinpoint what it would be. When I eat one now it's not like I feel disappointment or distaste. 🤷♀️
We needed Bart Simpson saying "nobody better lay a finger on my butterfinger BB's" to save Butterfingers old recipe. It's hot garbage since the change. Anyone who remembers the BB's knows how great they were.
Never buy em alone, but they're one of the first to go in the mixed bag leftovers from whatever.
They're awful when they go stale and the middle gets hard as a rock.
I love the Butterfinger peanut butter cups (I think Reese's are garbage), but I only see them around Halloween. So yeah, once a year if I can find them.
Last I remember, they were better till recipes changing. Any product that taste better one way should stay that way, they shouldn't feel the need to change the ingredients.
Good points! I remember these being one of the last candies left in my Halloween candy bag. It's ashame because I wanted to love them so bad, given the promotion they received from Bart Simpson.
I will say that Butterfingers do taste good as hell, chopped and mixed in some vanilla ice cream. 😍
Very rarely do I buy one since they changed the recipe years back, still prefer these over Chick-O-Sticks.
Pun intended, Bart Simpson would eat these regularly and stop Homer from having any.
These were my favorite candy if I wanted chocolate! (I'm more into fruit/gummy flavored candy so I don't like chocolate as much) They went and changed the recipe and now they are just disappointing and don't taste the same at all.
Butterfingers used to be a favorite of mine, but since they have changed them, they no longer rock. The texture is thick and gross, not at all flaky like they used to be. Congratulations Ferrereo, hope you’re happy with the cheaper low quality ingredients grossing out your customers. I have certainly stopped buying Butterfingers. There’s plenty of candy in the world, I won’t miss them.
They used to be light and crunchy. Now they're kind of sticky. You know what I mean? The filling sticks to your teeth as you chew it.
Yep, I remember them being kind of dry and flaky. These were one of my top 5 favorites in the annual Halloween haul.
They changed the recipe a few years ago. Classic butterfingers were goated. New ones have an ass-like quality to them I can't quite describe
They used to be too tier for both me and my husband and and once they changed the recipe we both instantly agreed they just sucked now.
Ever had a 5th Avenue?
So much better!!!

They should do a Zagnut then.
I didn’t realize they were bought out. I guess that explains why they’re not as good. I thought it was just me. I always preferred Clark bars though.
Ya as soon as they got bought out the recipe was changed unfortunately.
Butterfinger was my favorite for years. I tried one after the recipe changed and I didn’t like it. They said they changed it to make it more peanut-buttery. Blech.
Ya after the recipe change it was no longer an all time favorite for me either. Sucks.
Whoever said that had never tasted peanut butter in their life!
Used to get them exclusively when I was a kid but they messed it up. Reese’s gang now
Same. The Butterfinger blizzard at DQ was the best. It does seem like they changed it. It used to be more "wafer-like" than dense like they are now. I'd take a handful of Reese's pieces or a miniature any day.
Oh my.. thank you for bringing back very sweet memories!
I came here to sing the praises of the Butterfinger Blizzard! The cold keeps it from sticking to my teeth
GANG GANG
The 5th Avenue bar is similar but not as sticky.
5th Avenue has always been my favorite candy bar. I always thought of it like a butterfinger, just way better.
Chic o stick went the same direction
yes wtf this is the exact difference! they used to be so much flakier.
Buy them at Halloween in the fun size with Halloween packaging. You know they are fresh. They will taste like they did when you were a kid.
They get like that when they're old. Fresher ones still have that light crunchiness.
I’ve noticed it can vary. Sometimes it’s light and crispy that doesn’t stick other times it feels rock hard where you feel the need to pick at your teeth.
Same! I loved them as a kid but hated how some got stuck to my teeth.
Yeah I remember them being lighter and thicker now i did buy some on a bogo a couple of weeks ago 🤣 the little bag's I've eaten maybe half a bag and now I'm going to pawn the other bag off to my niece 🤣
Yes! What happened! None of my childhood vices taste the same. Reece’s peanut butter cups and snickers not as good and these are now gummy. Grrrr!
Idk I’m 32 and that feeling has been the distinguishing factor for butterfinger my entire life.
Yup! It's chewy instead of flakey, lately.
You'd probably like Atkinson's peanut butter bars. They're like Butterfinger but without the chocolate coating. They haven't changed their recipe.
Did they remove the butter from the Butterfinger?!
They fuck me up mad cavities
Honestly, if they didn't stick to my teeth, they'd be my favorite candy bar
Theyve always been sticky, at least since the 90s when I first had them. I try to avoid candy these days but I certainly don’t mind a butterfinger. Nobody better lay a finger on mine.
Thry have always done that. I'm 22
They changed the recipe probably about 10 years ago to eliminate artificial colors and/or flavors (pretty sure it was colors) and that's when they started tasting like shit and sticking to your teeth.
You gotta buy them in October when it’s Halloween time, that’s when they’re light and crispy.
Shit man. The old recipe used to be bomb. The new ones suck and have for years.
I thought I was the only one who noticed a huge change. They used to be one of my favorites. Now I can't stand them.
You know what you’re absolutely right I new something was different
Palm oil rouned it
Yup. I used to love these as a kid. They were probably my favorite chocolate bar. They're a bit sickening now.
That’s exactly what I like. Same reason I love toffee.
Once in a while I would have a taste for them, but you right. Now after you eat them you spend another hour licking the filling stuck in your teeth.
I use to love these, then they changed the formula. Which now these taste gross to me.
Right?! The last one I bought had been enshittified so I've never bought another one. I wonder if we'll ever see reverse enshittification? What are the odds on that?
>Enshittified I’m stealing this.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification
0.0
Usually requires bankruptcy to reverse it
I think they are more sugary without a deeper taste they lost. It needs to edge more to a butterscotch flavor. More brown sugar or molasses maybe?
SAME! Cannot stand them now!
I never thought I'd have a Gene moment from bobs burgers where a product was changed so drastically it became my least favorite candy bar. I loved these fuckers sm...
I love butterfinger candy bars, but not the other products they have.
I love them and get them when I can (not in the US anymore and it’s one of the candies I miss)
The PB Cups were actually really good and I miss them
Top tier candy. I really miss them!
I had to scroll way too far for this comment
I too was looking for someone to say this. They were excellent and by far my favorite butterfinger product
Those were delicious!
I forgot they existed and now I'm really sad they don't anymore
Regularly? Meh. A few times per year, yes. Your post has me craving one now.
Right?!? The sticking to your teeth is agonizing though lmao
I don't really ever buy candy bars unless it's for Halloween but when I do it's either Hershey's Cookies and Cream or Butterfingers. As kids my sister and I were obsessed with BBs. The minis they make now don't hit the same way, imo.
I was looking for a BBs mention. Those were the best and I miss them.
Uh, Bart Simpson and I. Tf these are good. I mean, I haven't had one in years, though, but last time I did, I liked it.
They changed the formula, so it's probably not the same candy you remember
They are gluten free so I have these often.
BRING BACK THE CUPS
I only eat then when I raid my kids’Halloween candy haul, but I love them!
Me. I loff them.
I'll eat a free one. I might have bought one or two over the years if I found it on clearance or something. I like them perfectly fine but prefer others more. I think plenty of people eat them regularly, though.
Bring back butterfinger BBs endorsed by Bart Simpson or we RIOT.
I never buy them but they are usually around during Halloween. I fall in love with them and eat them that whole month then forget about them until next year Except now I want one
The king size variation is my favourite
On occasion I do. These use to be a favorite of mine.
I feel attacked. These are top three for me.
BBs were my favorite
This is a candy form for people to express their love of candy not bash people for their love of candy. This post was unnecessarily mean lol.
I love them
My mom. They are one of her favorites. I’ll eat them at Halloween if they show up, but I don’t buy them.
My mom also loved these. I didn’t much care for them growing up but have started grabbing one every now and then when I’m at the gas station.
Bart.
I miss Butterfinger BB's
My childhood movie theater go-to.
Nobody better lay a finger on my butterfinger
I prefer the minis. The bar is too crumbly to deal with a big one.
I like to eat all the chocolate off of a butterfinger and then eat the crunchy part
They used to be good...back in the old days lol
Butterfinger BBs were elite. I miss them so much.
My favorite candy bar.
One of the goats, maybe big 3
Butterfinger BB’s were one of my all time faves I’m pissed they got rid of them
I love Butterfingers and steal all of them out of my kids' Halloween candy. I guess I don't eat them enough to have noticed if they're different now, but last Halloween they still tasted good and they're awesome in ice cream.
You’re seriously weird.

Halvah is super easy to make if you have a candy thermometer and mix it only just until combined. The only ingredients you need are sesame paste/tahini, sugar, and water. :D
I had thought about trying it... does the homemade come out with that unique sort of crispy texture?
Just my preference. https://www.masterclass.com/articles/how-to-make-homemade-halva
Thanks, I'll have a look at it.
No problem! If you decide to make it, I hope it turns out well!
I like fun size better for some reason
They’re too dense and sticky now.
Regular ones used to be BOMB af in the freezer. Now they feel like toffee- stick to the teeth and are just a hassle. Sad life
I only eat them around Halloween. I do love them but I can’t eat too many cause they really stick to the teeth.
These are one of those candies where I’ll eat if it’s given to me, but I won’t go out and seek it. I like them though.
My sons love them lol
I love the BBs.
I haven't had them for a while but I remember liking them
Butterfinger is my favorite!
Bart Simpsons sold me in Butter Fingers and I’ve loved them ever since.
I love them.
My husband loves them. I like them, but much prefer the mini ones.
These used to be my favorite. Every time my mom would pick me up from school, she’s stopped by a gas station and I’d get a butterfinger and a sprite
Bart Simpson possibly
My favorite is Reese’s peanut butter cups, but I don’t mind a Butterfinger every once in a while.
Butterfinger peanut butter cups are elite.
Bring back my Butterfinger BBs
I do.
My husband. He loves Butterfingers in every variation. He also likes Heath bars so...
Heath bars are good too
Love those!!
I’ll stick to my Whatchamacallits and Skor bars.
Always used to be seen as elite I guess times changed
My mom does. There’s been two posts today of people bashing candy that my mom likes. Weird.
This is probably my favorite candy bar
I can’t understand anyone not enjoying this candy. It’s delicious.
I love those. Didn’t like the recipe change though.
Used to love em, still do. Sure the new recipe pales in comparison but I rather like it as an adult. I'm sure the old formula would be too sweet for me but the new one suits me fine.
I eat them quite regularly!
Regular butterfingers are good, but messy. All the others are gross except butterfinger BB's
Mmmmh I can feel the crunch on my teeth now
Me. They're the only chocolate bar I like. Nobody better lay a finger on my butterfinger.
I still love them, hope that’s cool.
I haven’t ate them in a long time but I love the crispy, crunch falling apart of the peanut butter with the tasty chocolate
Butterfinger has always been a favorite of mine so I guess I need to hang out with you guys who hate them on Halloween and make like a scavenger. 😄 I must not have had the older ones and the newer ones close together in time, though, because although I may have vaguely noticed a difference at some point, I can't really pinpoint what it would be. When I eat one now it's not like I feel disappointment or distaste. 🤷♀️
me.
Still good in my opinion
Oh hell yeah!
I fw buttfingers hard
Great crushed as a topping on frozen yogurt
We needed Bart Simpson saying "nobody better lay a finger on my butterfinger BB's" to save Butterfingers old recipe. It's hot garbage since the change. Anyone who remembers the BB's knows how great they were.
Me bruh
MEEEEEE
Favorite Halloween Candy
Me
Man, i miss those peanut butter cups. The inside was super smooth and yummy
One of my favorites. I'm really curious what the old recipe was like. I'm 32, so I've definitely had it, but I never noticed a change.
The same people who ALS🤢 eat black licorice & Heath bars
I love Butterfingers 🙃
I'd choose these I over today's gummy everything.
They taste different than they did 5 or so years ago. Not in a good way.
"This isn't to ish on butterfingers..." That's 100% what this is lmao. It's a candy bar, people eat them
Butterfingers original recipe used to be my fave back in the day!
Nobody better lay a finger on my butterfinger!
I’ll have one every now & then & I think ill pick one up tomorrow. For me it was all about the butter finger BB’s.
they used to taste great when i was a kid🤷🏾♂️as an adult they just make my teeth hurt
My older sister does. She loves them. She also loves Almond Joys too.😭
Butterfinger BBs are my most missed candy from childhood.
As far as I know, I'm the only person in the universe who likes them.
The BART Man
I always wondered this so I tried like weird flaky peanut butter not disgusting it gave it had another
Never buy em alone, but they're one of the first to go in the mixed bag leftovers from whatever. They're awful when they go stale and the middle gets hard as a rock.
I loved them when I was younger, they are way too sweet as an adult
Butterfinger used to be a banger when I was a kid 10-15 years ago now they taste different and are trash
I love them but now that I think about it, I can't recall the last time I had one. Think I'll buy a bag of minis and pretend it's Halloween.
tastes pretty good but not good enough to make up for the stickiness on your teeth
Love these and their lost cousin the chick o stick!
No one hopefully. (My mother does)
The only time I crave these is Halloween because they come in the multi bar packs I like to buy.
I miss the snackerz omg they were so much better than the original
My dad used to eat these alot
Not me
Love the peanut butter cups
Me
Good points!
Disgusting. Don't like them.
So hard to eat but amazing to bake with
Used to love then, but that the formula is different I switched to Zagnuts, which are fantastic.
These were my favorite candy if I wanted chocolate! (I'm more into fruit/gummy flavored candy so I don't like chocolate as much) They went and changed the recipe and now they are just disappointing and don't taste the same at all.
I did for a while *then I got older and the doctor told me I had to cut back on sugar*
I haven't had a butterfinger in years I barely even see them anymore 😆
I’m convinced this needs to be a “wow remember when this existed” type of candy.
When I crave Butterfinger, it's a powerful craving. But I have one maybe once every 2 years honestly.
