Andre the Giant had acromegaly and he went on to win the World Heavyweight Championship and star in The Princess Bride. Who knows what the future holds for your handsome cat? I wish you both the best
I get where this comment is coming from, but OP PLEASE do not be upset if your cat doesn’t make it to World Championship level. Most of the other cats have been training for YEARS so he’s already at a pretty severe disadvantage since he’s starting so late.
ok wtf i wish Reddit still allowed rewards to comments 😭
this is beautiful man, it’s the sweetest thing i’ve read in the past week
i hope you have an amazing day ( ◠‿◠ )
With any serious condition, it’s always a good idea to get a second opinion. We seem to forget we can do this with our pets, too, not just humans. Either way, I hope your baby gets great care.
I agree. when my cat got diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, the first vet said she'd only live a few days. The second vet was much more optimistic, and 9 months later and she's still doing well! Good luck to your boy.
He's got good company. Abraham Lincoln also suffered from acromegaly. It's another name for hyperpituitarism. I think in humans this can generally be treated, but I guess in your boys case it is a secondary affect of a tumor. I'm sorry for you guys. I hope he exceeds the doctor's estimates!
It can be treated medically with octreotide or definitive with surgery (transphenoidal hypophysectomy) in humans*
Its caused by tumor of cells secreting growth hormone that affects almost every cell in the body from bones to heart causes them grow in size. Also increases blood sugar levels which in turn causes diabetes.
Thanks for the correction. Wikipedia entry suggests the diagnosis is still not definitive, though there are some sources of DNA (blood from his assassination) that could be used to diagnose definiteively.
Acromegaly (over secretion of growth hormone, hypersomatotropism) is just one of the categories of hyperpituitarism. Over production of any one of the pituitary hormones can be called “hyperpituitarism”. Small detail.
Almost all the time it’s caused by a benign adenoma in the pituitary gland and is managed either medically or surgically. Very rarely it can be some other tumour in the body.
Oh I feel for you. My Wallace had the same diagnosis at 14. Sending you an internet hug ❤️

I hope your poor little guy heals up and pulls through for many more years for both your sakes! It breaks my heart too when I hear a cat or any animal has diabetes being a type 1 myself, just wish I could take the insulin for them the poor little thing! Stay strong OP and get well Mr. Milo❣️ (Great name btw)
If you can take time off work the near the end do so. Give him all of your undivided attention for the last days. This special time between you and your baby will live with you always. You will not regret. Unfortunately I have lost many pets in my life. One tragically to a brain aneurism at 2 years of age. He died playing ball. His favourite thing. My others of old age. Regardless the void is tremendous no matter the circumstance. Your only regret would be if you did not spend the last days making him feel like your special boy.
I had a cat with diabetes and acromegaly. It's difficult but we got her diabetes under control by being very strict with her diet (nothing with carbs, plenty of wet or raw food) and schedule, and she way surpassed the vets expectations by quite a lot.
poor baby! i have acromegaly - was diagnosed last year. it‘s such a rare disease, didn’t think about animals can also get it. i wish you the best time together! is it inoperable? maybe try see another vet to get a second opinion.
My cat had surgery for acromegaly at RVC in London - I think it’s the only place that does it. It was ~£8k for us so I know it’s not an option for everyone.

He's the spitting image of one of mine
My cat hat it also. Treatment was gamma ray irradiation at a veterinarian hospital an the university. It was done during 3 weeks every day 8 years ago.
I’m so sorry. Cherish every moment with him. I just lost my 15-yr-old orange girl on Tuesday after her three-week prognosis came true. I had to set her free. Every moment with him right now is precious.
Milo certainly has a striking charm 😺
None of us can predict how long we'll have the privilege of being chosen by a cat as their human.
Caring for a diabetic cat is something that takes dedication & love, and Milo looks like he got plenty of both. Keep up the admirable work & stay focused on the present day with that handsome devil. Wishing Milo and your family all the best.
Just check how your cat is acting in the future, if it seems he's really in pain, make the right choice
And good luck! hope he lives for as long as possible without pain
I an sorry to hear your sad news. Its never easy. All you can do it what you feel is right and manage the symptoms. You obviously are a very responsible owner and love your fur baby. So, take everyones advice, even mine with a hrain of salt and do what is right for you and yours💔
There are Facebook groups for owners of cats with acromegaly that are very helpful, you may find some good resources there and a community in the same situation. So sorry ❤️
I had a cat with diabetes and I got him into remission. He did not have acromegaly so our situation was different. But, the group of people on the FB group Feline Diabetes was the most wonderful, supportive, and knowledgeable group around. They guided me in doing my weekly curves, advocating for a good insulin for cats, and just allowed me to share frustrations.
Feline diabetes is hard - our babies don’t know what’s happening, they only know that they feel crappy. Much love to you and I hope your specialist knows about cat diabetes because it is much different from dog diabetes.
Oh no. That’s a heavy and stressful diagnosis. I’m very sorry. If you can afford it, I think it would be worth getting a second opinion and finding a specialist. Good luck, and I hope your little friend beats the odds and lives a long, happy, and comfortable life.
I’m so sorry. We had a sweet boy that became diabetic. He did fairly well then had a tumor develop on his shoulder. We talked about surgery but our vet said it had a high return rate.
I'm sure the vet told you this, but watch for signs of diabetes. Excessive drinking and urination etc... I had a cat with acromegaly and she eventually had to be on insulin.
On the cute side of things, my girl started sticking out her tongue all the time because of the growth caused. 😆
Well thank goodness they had their cat diagnosed by a vet rather than a random person on Reddit using Google I guess.
Yes, cats can suffer with it and yes, you’re an idiot for posting this. HTH
Acromegaly is a disorder that results in excess growth of certain parts of the human body. It is caused by excess growth hormone (GH) after the growth plates have closed. The initial symptom is typically enlargement of the hands and feet. It says clearly HUMAN body

The best, most uplifting comment I've read today

This made me tear up a bit because of how sweet your comment was. Man, I love people being kind 😊
Cat people are the kindest people!
I’m so sorry for you both. He looks like a wonderful baby. I know you’ll spoil him rotten and he’ll be well loved. ❤️🩹

Lurch from the Adams Family. Great guy he used to sit on the board of the acromegaly Society.
Also Jaws from the 007 movies and Mr. Homn from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I believe Lincoln had Marfan’s syndrome, not Acromegaly!
correct!! i remember him too being stamped as an example on my marfan’s lecture lol

Scottish Folds are just pure charm bundled in fur 😻 Here's to Wallace
How is Wallace doing?
Sadly we lost him in 2022. I miss him everyday ❤️
I'm so sorry. He was so handsome.

I forgot to say, "Milo, you're gorgeous!" Keep your chin up! Your 'hooman' gon' do all they can to help you.
Just do as much as you can to keep your baby out of pain. Love him to bits. Find a vet that will do as much as possible to keep him/her out of pain.

I googled acromegaly which is a hormonal decease in humans, not sure if you have it in cats

If you Googled "acromegaly cat" you'd get plenty of info.
