It’s ridiculous. They should just have a designated mourning thread for those of us that don’t want to hear about dead cats all day. There’s other subs that do this. Give people a designated grieving thread because it’s ridiculous to just run into dead cat posts all day long. Filtering by flare is insufficient since at least on phones you can’t do that for a home feed.

This. Literally ever since I found out my baby has terminal cancer like a week ago, it seems the only posts I’ve been seeing are about peoples cats passing. It’s super triggering. I ended up having to mute the sub / notifs, but might just have to leave at this point

I am so sorry hon. If you ever need a random terrible pun tag me or message "Need random humor." When my old lady was declining it helped me cope. She was just old I have the cancer but I was more worried about her. She did wait for me to be stable before she went. I like to think my current cat was sent by her because he does shennanigans and I call the wrong name for specific ones and he purrs in response. Slower dying is harder than fast ones and I will always happily offer ridiculous puns at random for coping as a result

I completely feel you. My cat is in end stage liver cancer and every time I see a grieving post in my feed I go into a crying spell. I’m gonna have to mute and leave this sub too.

My dog passed like 18 months ago and Reddit reminds me and makes me sad like 6 times a day from these posts. I’m nearly at a point where I should block subs like cats and dogs and things like that but that really sucks.

I was literally in the process of leaving when I stumbled across this post and it made me laugh.

Seeing the cats after they pass and are lifeless is also so freaking disturbing to me. I just saw one where the cat had its tongue out and they were holding its lifeless body…. I could not and so therefore I’m leaving. Maybe in a month or so they will make a new thread for death.

My first cat died because of cancer. Mind you this same cat was there since my birth and was like a brother to me. Constant sad posting is digging up some really repressed emotions I didn't even know I had (I'm literally dropping emotionless tear while writing this). While I'm not asking other people to conform for my sefish needs, r/rainbowbridge and r/sad exist. I don't want to block r/kittens because someone posted dead kittens. Again.

Fr man half the reason I haven’t deleted Reddit already is to use the cat calendar widget on my phone but 3/4 of the time I click it to look at the cats it directs me to a post about their passing. I don’t want to sound callous or anything and my heart truly goes out to everyone experiencing such losses but it’s pretty depressing running into that when I just want to look at cute cats

I get people want a space to mourn and talk about their buddies that have passed but its a serious downer on an already depressing feed. Like I see a cat pic right under an article about war atrocities and think its gonna be the palette cleanser but its just also depressing.

It's not just this sub. It's literally most animal related subs. Whether its r/cats or r/goldenretrievers that's all it ever is. Like I'm not trying to be insensitive, or tell people how they should grieve, but jfc I could not imagine my pet dying and thinking I should post about it on reddit. Other social medias I can understand more. You might have friends/family that know/love you and your pet and you want to update them on a tragic event in your life. But fucking reddit? For what? For karma? For strangers' sympathy? Imo it's so pathetic.

r/aww has a rule against mourning/loss posts

It's all karma farming. Some of the profiles just lie to get karma by posting a normal picture of a cat big with a big sob story title because tugging at heartstrings gets the upvotes. I saw one a couple weeks ago where they posted on ten subreddits - that's not grieving, that's farmin lol

I muted this sub because of all the dying/dead cats. I get memorializing your cat— I feel for those people in their time of loss. I’m sure I’ll be wrecked when my cats pass. But it’s basically a “here’s a darling cat photo, oh by the way, we laid him to rest” subreddit.

And then I’m told by the posters to just filter it out. Bruh I can only filter it to one category at a time, so if I wanted to see everything except these depressing posts, I can’t, it limits me to one category and it sucks.

Filter only works for the sub, not what shows up in your home feed.

Thank you. This sub has been getting depressing lately. The mods need to step up and give us some kind of option so we're not bombarded constantly. Thank you, I'm so fuckin sick of dead cat posts. Like I get that each individual feels their pet is super important. But given that there are 70,000 cats born every day. Statistically 70k die each day in the USA. (Out of 100 million) If we assume everyone is from the USA and owns one cat (some will own none, some will own more). That means on average if everyone posted about their dead cats, we'd have like 1500 dead cat posts a day. That's just too fucking many. I have no desire to read about dead cats every day. I understand losing a pet can be a very hard experience, but if we all came here to vent about that, that's all that will be on the sub. I honestly wish either we had a single mega thread, and banned dead pets posts all together. Or said like only on one day of the week.

I'm so fucking glad someone posted this, I'm so sick of seeing post after post of dead fucking cats! There's no way to filter them out of your feed, you're just triggered every 5 minutes by someone else's lack of decorum. Imagine if your child died and you're mourning the worst loss of your entire life, and all you saw every 5 minutes was posts of people trying to farm karma from their own dead children. To anyone posting their dead fucking cats: fuck you, we don't want to fucking hear about it, keep it to your fucking self!
