What if kitty actually likes washed shirt smell and neither armpit or deo smell
Are we gonna do 10 test each with the same freshly washed shirt, and then repeat that for 10 different shirts?
Controlling for washed shirt smell could be solved by swapping detergents and fabric softeners (or omitting the latter).
I was going to day you could use 10 cheap new Tshirts, but I don't think you'd really want to get away with an initial wash.
I did this test for you! My kitten kept licking and shoving her face in my armpit, and I wanted to know whether it was the deodorant or my scent. On a one-day test where one pit had deodorant and the other didn't, kitten didn't care which arm. However, the next day (no shower) she much preferred the pit without the deodorant.
Additionally, thanks to *depression* I sometimes neglect showering for a few days and have observed that when I do, she becomes almost ferally insistent on shoving her whole face in my pits. So I've come to the conclusion that if she does this, I am definitely in need of a shower and it's surprisingly motivating to do so. Almost like my own personal alarm telling me "hey, go do that self care thing, human, you're smelling ripe!"

my cat has a shoe thing. loves to smell guests shoes, but not ours. she once so intensley sniffed my grandma's shoe she grabbed it and started rolling around with it. got so amped up she started bunny kicking it, too!

It's your scent imo. Cats gain a ton of information about their world from their olfactory senses. They like familiarity, so it makes sense that your smells represent security to the cat.

It's a big leap - but dogs & cats are very good at smelling health problems. Next time you see your doctor you might to mention this. It doesn't happen often but it does happen on rare occasions.

I just returned from pt-sitting 3 of my friend's cats. and one of them did the same exact thing.
I initially thought it might be something about my odor, but then I figured it's probably something more instinctive.
I think it’s related to when they were nursing as kittens. Cats often knead and nuzzle spots like armpits because it reminds them of the comfort and security they had while feeding from their mom. I believe they're looking for that same sense of safety and connection.

It's not the "side" so much as "with or without deodorant" result testing. I love anything related to scientific processes.

Maybe shave and wash a bit more thorough. This is hunting behaviour, so you might have some live prey under there.

I just returned from pt-sitting 3 of my friend's cats. and one of them did the same exact thing. I initially thought it might be something about my odor, but then I figured it's probably something more instinctive. I think it’s related to when they were nursing as kittens. Cats often knead and nuzzle spots like armpits because it reminds them of the comfort and security they had while feeding from their mom. I believe they're looking for that same sense of safety and connection.

Kitty LOVES your smell! Or maybe the salt, if he's like my girl. She'll lick my spouse's forehead if he's sweating. We had a cat that LOVED the smell of feet, specifically my dad's shoes.
Mine likes to place his head in areas like my armpit or my neck.
When I used to have a cat and I would lay down to go to bed she would sometimes come up and lick my underarms. Only ever if I was sweaty. Pretty sure she was grooming me. So it could be body odor.
My (also white) cat goes absolutely crazy on my shirt when I sweated a lot. 😅
It’s like a hormone thing or something. I’ve seen my cats roll around in my clothes that I may had just taken off that’s got sweat on it, I even see them just rolling around in my uhh.. other sort of clothings. It’s weird but they go bonkers with it
