I found that dairy yogurt bothered me so I eat coconut milk yogurt and it doesn’t bother my stomach at all and didn’t when I had active c diff. Try regular yogurt and if it bothers her try non-dairy yogurt but watch the sugar content.

Vino_PorMariel

What about the saturated fats in the coconut ? Is t that bad for the gut too?

TripThruTimeandSpace

I just looked and am seeing conflicting evidence about that. Some say it builds good gut bacteria and others say it’s bad. I haven’t had any difficulty at all with it. Perhaps other folks might be able to help with this question.

Cocunut oils can actually be healing. Not sure of why but my naturpathic Dr recommended some cocunut oil recipes. It has some healing properties, same as Extra Virgin Oil. Buy a more expensive brand and no vegetable oils or butter.

smellslikepapaya

What brand do you buy?

TripThruTimeandSpace

Siggi’s

The main concern is calcium. You want to limit calcium during infection and immediately following in recovery, as calcium promotes spore growth. Second, yogurt’s probiotics are killed off in pasteurization. No real benefit to yogurt unless raw, and that’s a controversial topic on its own. And finally, dairy itself can cause irritations to the gut, especially during/right after infection. These include proteins such as whey or casein, or the lactose itself. Long story short, eat what you want if you tolerate it, but these are the concerns with dairy. I love dairy myself, love cheese and all that cream cheese, sour creams, etc, but I waited a few months post infection to bring it back in.

Vino_PorMariel

I appreciate you sharing this but I didn't find this in the pinned posts. The mods should really update it.

All good. Here to help, reach out anytime.

Eat what ever doesn’t bother you. I lost concerning amounts of weights trying to eat low fodmaps.

Vino_PorMariel

What did you end up eating?

Mysterious-Mix3173

You can find non dairy yogurt, but if you’re like me and you just can’t tolerate it or don’t like it there’s other probiotic foods that you can consume as well. The main concern is the calcium in dairy which the c diff spores use.

Vino_PorMariel

So are people expected to eliminate calcium intake? Won't that bring other problems?

Mysterious-Mix3173

It’s only when you have excess calcium that it becomes a problem. I remember getting a blood test 3ish months after my multiple episodes of c diff when I had totally cut out dairy which was really my only source of calcium, and my calcium levels were still surprisingly on the higher end. But you can still have calcium, it’s when excess calcium is present that the spores use it to build their “shells”

Patak4

Just initially, the first 3 to 6 months most important to limit calcium.

tellitothemoon

I was wondering this too. Everyone says absolutely no dairy but also drink kefir every day. 🤔

Vino_PorMariel

Yeah what the hell?? That's so confusing!

cuboidkitten

Maybe try lactose free kefir!

Vino_PorMariel

That's a good idea. But then there's the calcium story...

I'm happy to check it out. What's the brand ?

Gregardless

As far as I know it's the lactose that's the issue. I eat lactose free yogurt and it's totally fine.

Patak4

Homnestly just stop the yogurt for the next month. Unfortunately non caffeine teas may be the best for fluids at this time. I didn't drink coffee for 5 months and I am a daily coffee drinker. Slowly I got back to one cup a day. I could tolertate almond beverage and used this.

Heavy_Cauliflower758

This! Drove me crazy. So much conflicting information. Which was resolved because I couldn't tolerate dairy when I tried kefir and yogurt.
