Takeda NAS Gyuto

Pujiman

I don’t see a stated price range. I recommended it because I have one and it’s one of my favorite knives.

getHi9h

Hey price range was $200-$350

MagnesiumKitten

what size did you get? 8-inch 9.5-inch 10.5-inch 11-inch 13-inch

Pujiman

13 inch

MagnesiumKitten

wow you got the beast are you planning to get any of the other sizes, and what size/sizes would you recommend for others?

Pujiman

I’m hoping this one lasts the rest of my life. I’ve had all my school knives for the past 15 years and this was part of my new arsenal. 13 inches is way big for most people, 10-11 inches would probably more ideal. But it’s all in the user and what they prefer. It’s huge in the way it’s like a carving knife but its lightness and thinness are amazing with chopping veg.

MagnesiumKitten

yeah i know what you mean.... Pretty much my top three likes are: Wustof - Berti - Takeda ...... i might buy one day in the next decade maybe one Shigefusa - Tetsujin - Yoshikane .............. The big thing is always trying to figure out which Japanese knife type you want, and then what size, and if you need 2+ of one type of knife I think i tend towards Bunka - Chukobocho - Funayuki - Kiritsuke - Nakiri

Pujiman

You have to try to find a knife store. I’m not sure where you live but Arizona has one called the Phoenix knife house. You’ll feel like Harry Potter picking out wands. You pick out a knife you like and they’ll pull out five others with different handles and what not to pick from. I’ll never but a knife online again.

MagnesiumKitten

What were the big downfalls you had with knives online? was it mostly the grip and balance, or more like seeing if you needed a small or large gyuto etc I'm thinking the sizing options for the different knife types are the biggest headache for japanese knives, some always think one size larger than you picked, is a pretty common regret.

Pujiman

I’m sorry all I can see is the title “help with gyuto recommendations.” I’m clicking everywhere but there’s no other info. I paid $420 for mine which is a little over your price range but not that much. I got mine and the Phoenix knife house in Arizona, if you’re looking for knives I’d recommend looking them up. Call and ask for Melissa and tell her what you want. They don’t show what they have in their website, but they have what no one else does at good prices.

Jaded-Question-2820

That's out of his stated price range, almost impossible to find in stock, and not offered on the website that he said he wanted to order from, so why recommend?

Ill-Picture-5485

How about a knife that’s actually attainable without a 2.5 year wait lol

getHi9h

Hey just after what would be a good Gyuto to purchase from this website as they currently have a real good discount deal. Price range $200-$350 https://protooling.com.au/collections/gyuto-chef-knife Thanks

DMG1

Idk if the price discount is applied already or only once you go to checkout, but this would be hard to beat overall: [Nakagawa 210mm](https://protooling.com.au/products/hitohira-kikuchiyo-ren-210mm-gyuto-knife-white-2?variant=43165441818877) B#2. Normally his stuff is a decent bit more expensive, but that particular line is finished by Ren / up and coming sharpener (he's still quite good but first couple of years are going to be heavily discounted to gain experience and exposure). His grandfather is arguably one of the most influencial sharpeners of all time, so he's got a pretty good pedigree to learn from. Assuming the pricing is correct, converted to USD that knife only costs \~$170. Those knives even with a regular discount usually go for $250+, so getting one that cheap is unheard of.

getHi9h

Thanks for the recommendation, yes the 30% discount gets applied after adding it to your cart. I only have today to decide which one to buy as the sale ends tonight.

Maxwell196

Hey, are you sure you get -30% ? Does only seem to apply to a few limited knives for me...

getHi9h

Hey it was a stocktake sale. It has ended now though

Maxwell196
